format. install your windows discs from external source (dvd or usb stick (will not boot from card). any 8.0 version will do and then follow the driver instructions on the sony page for you model.
its actually easy. just dont start with 8.1 directly because it gets complicated. avoid win 7 because the drivers for it are shi-tee.

Considering that Vaio onine store has stopped selling Vaios (at least in my coiuntry) I have now the opportunity to buy a touch/carbon black model on the Outlet (i5-4200U / 8gb ram / 128gb pcie / Win8 Pro) but there are only two problems.
The first, is that it isn't the refreshed model, so it doesn't have the wi-fi ac card (maybe it could be installed later but i don't know if it's hard). The second is that has Win 8 Pro installed and not the standard one, and I don't know if there are some differences or problems with the update to 8.1, having that version.
What should I do? Buy now (the price attracts me...is low for this model in my currency) or wait for a refreshed model to come to the Outlet (if it ever will)?
Thanks in advance -
^ You can't install another WiFi card, so it's up to you. If you update to 8.1, you'll have 8.1 Pro, so don't worry.
I just got mine, all updates done, VAIO CC says there are no updates available so my laptop is completely updateIt's quite good I have to say, runs TF2 at low 1080p, so I'm impressed.

Since yesterday my touchscreen doesnt work anymore on my SVP1321Z9E and I cant get it to work again. Reinstalled windows completly, but that doesnt fix the problem. Windows tells me that my Vaio supports the touch input with ten points.. Anyone can help me out here?

^ Well, in that case you proved me wrong! Then it's fine, I think you're good to go on getting the other model and swapping the wi-fi card.
Do note that you lose your warranty by doing so! -
I believe I have a problem with my webcam. Is not only blurry and noisy, but contours looks like some kind of edge effect.
Is that normal? -
I ordered the Vaio Pro 13 SVP1321 (old model) from the Outlet Store.
These are the specs:
Touchscreen
i5-4200U
8gb ram
128gb ssd pci-e
Win8 Pro
If I'll have problems with wi-fi I'll buy the 7260 AC card separately and install it.
Anyway there's a little question...I read that there were a lot of problems upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. Are these problems still there? If yes, which steps I must take in order not to have these problems?
Thanks -

I recently purchased a SVP13215CLB and did the update to 8.1. All working fine. My steps:
I started from a fresh system.
- Download everything from Windows Update BUT the optional things like the Bing Toolbar.
- If you want to remove some Sony software, this is a good time to do it.
- Download everything from Vaio Update. Some updates need a manual install, like the BIOS update. Make sure you install them, since they are critical.
- Install 8.1 from the store.
- Check for more updates from Windows Update
- You will have more Vaio Updates.
Thats it, that worked for me. -
Just a thing...so the Sony BIOS upgrade has to be done on windows? Weird. -
Next time going try to use the setup.exe from the sony drivers to see if I can update the whole new drivers.
The drivers updated fine and they are running ok.
Next thing I want to try to update is also the synaptics and the realtek card reader. Anyone had any success on these ones?? I couldn't find the realtek card reader on the device manager, Am I missing somthing?? -
Do you know if the SSD (both sata and pci-e) is soldered on the motherboard or it is replaceable?
-
I think it's replaceble, it's a M.2 PCI.E format
-
I just noticed that I'm not able to turn off the ambilight sensor for screen brightness, nor in Vaio Control Center, nor in Avanced Power Options.
I'm running Windows 8.1, any ideas?
Edit: turn out is not the ambilight sensor, that work well. Its something that adapts the screen contrast by the screen contents. Could be the bravia engine?
Edit2: seems that the problem is Intel´s Display Power Saving Technology. Thats odd, I have other notebooks with this technology, I never noticed such abrupt changes on the display contrast, but turning off the thing solved the problem (?) -

nothing weird about it. macbook efi update has to be done on os x as well. the required drivers and software is written and tested only for what the computer is originally sold with, in this case windows.
-
The manufacturer can choose how to handle firmware/BIOS upgrades. ASUS, for at least some models, offers a firmware image that can be flashed either via their preinstalled Windows utility or from a screen within the preboot EFI/BIOS environment itself. If Sony's firmware updates are distributed only in a Windows-dependent format, that's a shame.

The Touchscreen on my Vaio Pro suddenly stopped working around two days ago, has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried some of the fixes online to do with Device Manager settings to no avail. Thanks!
-
On my vaio pro I installed windows 7 from scratch. Didn't save the Windows 8 recovery as it was no need to be as it was filled with Bloatware. Now that the new Windows 8.1 with update came out a couple days back I went and try to install the OS. Inserted the DVD, booted and Windows 8 installation setup started. Click start the install process and its stating I need Media drivers, and asks me to locate the path. I downloaded the Chipset 8 sata drivers from the Sony Support site and try to load those and none of them are working. Any ideas?
Thanks -
Are there any hardware engineering differences between SVP1321 and SVP1322, for example in terms of heat dissipation, fan noise and so on?

Is someone able to provide me with the stock Synaptics touchpad firmware? I have installed an incorrect version. Not driver, but firmware. It would be highly appreciated. Sean

Do you guys think it's worth purchasing this Pro 13 model# SVP1321HGXBI for $1699.99 with Windows 7 (i7, 256SSD, 8GB Ram)? I don't think this is the refresh model as it doesn't have the new AC wifi.
This model was once a clearance for $1249.99, but the same store, for some odd reason, acquired 2 unopened, new boxes and is selling for $1699.99. I just don't know if it's worth it to buy now or wait if they get the refresh model and hope there's no wifi issue.
I was thinking about just buying it, trying it out for 14 days, and should there be no wifi issues, then keeping it. But I wasn't sure if Windows 8 with touch screen plus the new AC was even worth the $100 if I got the refresh model directly from Sony at $1799.99.
Are there any wifi issues with the refresh model? -

So for these past days, I've been intensely using my Vaio Pro, and I thought I'd just write my thoughts on it.
BTW, could anyone rectify me if it's normal for youtube to lag a bit when I set the battery to Power Saver or a bit in balanced?
Personally, I couldn't have asked for anything more than this. It's fast, does all I want, and even plays Civ 5 at an acceptable 35FPS. It's very light, which makes it very portable (my backpack now weighs an additional 1.5-2Kg more with the laptop and charger, opposed to the 5-7Kg plus with my Series 7 Samsung), but the construction may be a turn off for some as it's very flexible. It doesn't bother me that much, as it does contain aluminium which I am a sucker for, but the keyboard is made off carbon fiber.
The screen is gorgeous and doesn't reflect much, which is a plus. I was on the plane watching a movie with low brightness and it was perfectly watchable (with the window open). Viewing angles are wide, and the color representation is top notch. The whites are MUCH whiter than my Samsung and the colors are more accurate (As far as I know, Adobe sRGB representation is at 96% on this one), and it's very pleasant to view. The touchscreen is also very responsive, absolutely no complaints on that regard.
The Speakers are great, they pack a nice sound and have a nice treble and mid, but lack a bit on bass. They're quite loud though, a medium sized room was easily filled with classical music, which is quite noticeable as a plus.
The keyboard has a nice travel, not too much and not too less, though it's a bit too soft for my taste. It's good though, I'd say it's a pleasant keyboard to type on. And has a good backlight too.
The SSD is blazing fast, and fortunately it's replaceable. It's PCIe based, which makes any copying related tasks a breeze. It boots up in under 5 seconds, and comes back form sleep in under 2, I'm really amazed with the speeds.
Overall, I'm really content with this laptop, and it'll serve me well for the next 2-3 years!
The battery lasted me 2 days. 1st day I worked in Word and Sibelius, and the 2nd day I gamed a bit which made the battery die only in the end of the 2nd day, so battery life is really good. It charges up really quickly as well.
My 2 cents on this laptop. The colors are a bit warmer than on my Samsung Series 7, and it's both good and bad, as the colors are more realistic on the Sony, but more colorful on the Samsung.jabberwockish likes this. -

Anyone who has svp1322 can check where it is made in?
-
I think it's pretty much been established that the whole Pro line is made in China.
Businesses in Japan can still order old Z models (with limited spec options) which are made in Japan, but that's it. Everything else is from China.
I don't think its an issue tbh. I'm using a VAIO put together over there right now and I love it.
I was gutted when Sony killed the Z - I had been saving for the next one - and even more so when they said they were selling up, so after much agonising I pulled the trigger on March 31st on a CTO Pro 11 with maxed out specs (Windows 8,1, i7 4650u, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM, US keyboard, sheet battery, dongles etc). I've only ever owned VAIO laptops and have found them to be great - this will be my 5th (and last, sadly). Kind of sad that it isn't a Z but I work on the go all the time and much prefer the 11 inch form factor and light weight. It should be great for conferences etc.
Looking forward to its arrival in a couple of weeks. I'm living in Japan right now, which is why I've been able to hold out a bit longer than most for the CTO. -
Does anyone here know if there is any hardware engineering difference between SVP1321 and SVP1322, for example in terms of heat dissipation, fan noise and so on?
Because I bought a SVP1321 (NOT-refreshed model) and I have this fear that the dissipation system may be different (and worse than that of the SVP1322). Hope you can clear me up about this -
On the bad side: the touchpad is a b!itch. I was forced to tweak the registry and add a small supplement on the base to improve gestures and tapping in general. Webcam is also sub-par regarding quality.

Hello all,
I received my Pro 13 today and I am having a very strange problem. The model number of the unit is SVP1322J4E (Product code: SVP1322J4EB.CEK), Sony support site does not recognise the model (when I try to manually find the latest drivers) and vaio update says all drivers are up to date when I know that they are not as there are new drivers and updates available. Sony Tech Support were of no use and despite promising a call back within the hour, nothing. Has anyone else had the same issue? any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Anyone know a way to re-install Vaio Control Centre? I wanted to update it, so downloaded the latest from the support web page, which had the newest one, but it ask me "do you want to delete the center, so I thought it has to delete it first and the will install the new one. But I end up with no Control center. I can't install any version back as it say you have already newer version installed or the is no update, install will stop.
Any way to install it back without to do PC recovery? -

Strange issues with sheet battery. Haven't used in a while but need it for a full day out tomorrow. Stuck it on to charge and VAIO has charged bit sheet battery is stuck at the 19% it started at.
I seem to recall setting this earlier in thread but can't find. -

Anyone can assist please?

Is there any difference in the dissipation system (heat and fan noise) between the two models SVP1321 and SVP1322?
I ask beacause I ordered a SVP1321 (old one) and dunno why I have this fear that Sony has changed something in relation to that, apart from the Win8.1 and AC card adds. -

I actually prefer IPS screens, hurts the eye less. How do you deactivate Intel's power saving functions? -
Is it safe to install the new Windows 8.1 update on these VAIO Pro laptops? The last update caused a ton of issues.

The pad has some flex, that causes an annoying clicking sound when I touch it, but also my fingers tend to "vibrate" a bit and cause some gesture-errors: one solution is to supplement the back of the unit to ensure the touchpad area has a toehold.
Swipe from right or left gestures are too evident and I found myself triggering them too often by mistake. The solution I´ve found is to reduce the swipe to a very narrow area just at the limit of the touchpad

Two-fingers scroll gesture fails too often at the point of become annoying on the desktop, but seems to work better on the modern interface. The solution is to copy the MI values to the desktop configuration. Is not perfect, but improves the experience.

About the Intel Power Manager, from Intel Graphic Properties -> power -> on battery I disabled the "display power saving technolgy". This thing changes display's contrast on-the-fly based on the screen contents. The result is an evident "bump" of brightnes every time the screen changes drastically, ej: when you switch to modern. Pretty annoying. -
hi guys
Is any one update the wireless driver from Intel release on February?
Any problems?
Thanks! -
By the way, I don't think the dissipation system is totally perfect...I heard of HD4400 throttling issues and fan noise, I'm a bit confused.
Thanksmandersen likes this. -

IMO, Jena is absolutely right regarding this. hamud's post is rather strange... when one takes into accout all the posts in this thread that clearly points out how problematic many users find the fan noise because the heat dissipation system is far from perfect. -

- deinstall McAfee and install avast
- run vaio update an do updates
- run win 8 updates and do all updates
- if you havent upgraded to win 8.1 do it (then run vaio update again)
- most importend vaio update: bios
- set energyplan to "balanced" and fan to silent in the vaio control center
my vaio is 99% of the time silent, meaning i can't here nothing.
there also people who complain about a "buzzing" noise.. here is my guide to this:
- turn off bluetooth if not needed
- turn off usb-charging while the laptop is off
- update grafic driver.
the buzzing noise is still there, but you hardly here it.
REALLY THIS LAPTOP IS REALLY NOT LOUD AND NOT HOT, WHEN YOU KEEP EVERTHING UPDATED. THE NOISE ISSUES AND THE OTHER ISSUES LIKE WIRELESS ETC. WILL ONLY AFFECT LESS THEN 5% OF VAIO PRO USERS. THESE PEOPLE WRITE HERE AND SEARCH FOR A SOLUTION, WHICH IS GOOD. BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE CONSIDERERS ARE AFRAID TO BUY ONE.
MY ADVICE: IF YOU LOVE THE STYLE WEIGHT ETC and DONT WANT A MAINSTREAM MAC ETC. GO FOR IT. IT WILL PROBABLY YOR LAST VAIO....
