    First Congrats!! :)
You got the best config there is...

if have the same issue with vaio updates since some day. It happend several times. Just wait for some days or better go to the support side and update the drivers by your self. Just search on the sony site of your region, for your modell and you can manually download and install. most importend components: bios updates, grafics and wireless lan, drivers. Generally my procedure is:

    - deinstall McAfee and install avast
    - run vaio update an do updates (in your case manually)
    - run win 8 updates and do all updates
    - if you havent upgraded to win 8.1 do it (then run vaio update again)
    - most importend vaio update: bios
    - set energyplan to "balanced" and fan to silent in the vaio control center

Can anyone please post the full specs of SVP1321C5E? Is it a low-end version? I cannot get more than 4-5 hours out of the battery in regular use (browsing online, light video streaming, office documents editing). I got it a few days ago and I want to know if I should send it back. Thanks

I was wondering if that BIOS update applied to me, and I also want to know to which version does that update to.

I have a SVP1321C5E and it's pretty much fully specced - i7-4500U, 8 gigs RAM, 512GB SSD, Carbon Black with touchscreen.

Under my invoice though it does say 'Laptop SV-P1321C5E - Configurable' so I wouldn't read too much into the model number, but rather the actual specs which you can find in Windows.

As to battery life - maybe check the performance settings in Vaio Control Center, and whether battery charging is to 80% or 100%?

I managed to get something like 14 hours battery last Sunday with the sheet battery attached, while performing a clean install of Windows 8.1 (and therefore downloading and installing programs constantly).

guys i'm vaio user from a long time and I know exactly what they do when they refresh laptops lines , because of that I'm saying there will be no changes in fan or laptop design because when they do something like this they change at least one letter in the model name not just the model number.
and what i'm saying that vaio pro fan is truly silent after some days , at first it starts to download updates and maintenance things that make the cpu and fan to run constantly , and need to uninstall some stupid pre-installed programs and will see huge difference .

about the bios version some new models comes with higher number that indicate different configuration that not compatible with previous one and has it's own update if necessary ,

    Hello everybody!

I have sort of a – to say the least – delicate problem... Both (!) USB-ports have been physically damaged and needs to be replaced, which is done by taking the laptop apart and removing the existing two USB 3.0 jacks on the motherboard (MB) and soldier on new USB 3.0 jacks to the MB... (See for example this here instructional video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVsVih_wGgw )

Now to my question: Does anybody know where to buy these 3.0 USB jacks which are compatible with the Sony Vaio Pro 13? (I have the SVP1321C5E.)

The USB jack look like this: USB 3.0 jack | eBay - but as you may understand, I'm in need of one which is compatible with the Sony Vaio... I figure it's good to try and narrow this down before making an order, a purchase...

    Thanks a bunch in advance!

    Cheers.

    Hi everyone!

I've recently bought a Sony Vaio Pro 13 this year, model SPV13223CGS. Windows 8.1 was pre-installed and I've just installed the latest update for Windows 8.1 two days ago. I've had no major issues since the day I've updated my laptop but it was just today that I realised my new shut down button which was added for the update doesn't show up. The arrows that go to the apps and also the search button are just boxes now. I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this issue to but they work normally. I just don't like how it's boxes. This didn't happen when I first bought my laptop, only when I updated my laptop two days ago.

Here is what it looks like if my description doesn't help you...

    Untitled-1.jpg

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? Restarting my laptop multiple times doesn't work and I have no idea how to solve this problem. It seems like I'm only having this issue.

    Thanks for any replies! :)

UPDATE: The issue is only seen on the apps menu and also in certain apps. The desktop is not affected.

Re: USB ports: Had the same problem and it was fixed by Sony service centre by exchanging the whole motherboard.
Fortunately my Vaio was still covered by warranty.

    Dear goreki,

    Thanks,

I was wondering, for example, if mine has the triluminous display even though the invoice only says LED and the resolution.
I am truly impressed about your battery life, only installing the Office suite drained the battery to empty for me.

My invoice only says '33.7 cm LED, 1920x1080' - I'm pretty sure that the only options when it comes to the screen are touchscreen or not - Triluminous as an example is standard across the range.

Appreciate that you'd want to identify whether it's a keeper or not sooner rather than later but give it a few days and a few charge/discharge cycles and see how you get on with the battery life. I seem to remember that batteries can take a few cycles to 'break-in' and reach their proper capacity.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good purchase at this time in its life cycle. I am looking for a light ultrabook with good battery life for my first year of university and have considered the VAIO pro and the Acer s7. I am concerned that with the sony PC business is closing down and this being a year old already that it might not be a good purchase. I would hope to be able to get a good back to school deal as the i5/8gb/128gb version is currently $1299

I have trouble with the bluetooth connection (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)). I think the trouble might started after the R1044V7 BIOS update. Updated BIOS yesterday, and the trouble started today. I have all the newest drivers from the Sony site, and have tried to uninstall/install everything. It doesn't work to uninstall the Intel Bluetooth driver and us the Microsoft Generic driver either... Suggestions?

Solved: Worked after installing latest bluetooth driver the Intel site for the second time .

    Hi all,

New member here... :) but been a reader for many years.
I've also been a huge Sony fan and owned a few VAIOs over the years, amongst other things (Walkmans, TVs, HiFi, Xperia phones, etc.).

I was planning to wait a wee bit longer before purchasing another notebook (Sony Ultrabook was the choice) but due to the VAIO brand suddenly closing down I had "no choice" but to fork a few bucks out on the VAIO Pro 13... on the very last day of CTO (March 21).

I went for the full specs but the SSD (only PCI-e 256GB instead of 512GB): SVP1322C5E with i7-4650U with HD5000, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCI-e SSD, touch screen, extended battery sheet, anti-reflective screen film, HDMI to VGA adapter, Infrared adapter, etc. and "clean start" (no bloatware installed), coupled with a new light VAIO bag, 2 external 1TB HD-E1 HDDs, 64GB & 32GB USB 3.0 drives and Sony MDR-ZX600 headphones... (yes, it was spending spree... )

I received the beast 4 days ago and have been very very impressed indeed so far. It's light as cotton, powerful and fast as a jet (boots into Windows 8.1 in 4 seconds from power on!! and shutdown in 5s!). I've read a lot about the flexible body, which I wasn't very worried about since I'm not a heavy typer (there's no need to hammer these light Ultrabook keyboards to write text, even at a fast rate). The Pro 13 keyboard is great, honestly. The screen's gorgeous with vibrant colors and touch is fast and fluid. I've just upgraded to Windows 8.1 Update by the way. So far so good.

I really hope it will last over time, many years from now, but I'm very careful about my notebooks anyway.
In a nutshell, a very fast and gorgeous Ultrabook that I already love so much.

I'll report back in a few weeks and/or months in order to give you my deeper feedback.
    Have a nice week!

    Great news from you!

Please also give us info about how much or little fan noise (or other noise?) the machine emits under light, "normal" and heavy load. And how is the ac connection working? These are the remaining questions (hopefully NOT "issues") for me to consider.

Sounds great. glad you're liking it! IMO, in my usage, the i7 would be an overkill as I already have super fast performance, so I bought the i5 model. I just didn't see the need for such horsepower. I don't plan on gaming on this machine, so I'm absolutely fine on that regard, and in any case, the 5000 is only a ~20% increase over the 4400. :)

Ok, I understand. That was suggested to me, but unfortunately my Vaio is not covered by the warranty... Therefore the cost of replacing/exchanging the MB would be quite big. And - in my opinion - the replacing would be completely unnecessary since the Vaio works well in all other aspects...

    Anyway, bump:

No, the only thing they changed was the AC wifi, and if you're lucky, an updated BIOS.

Of course, each refresh system was being updated with time and, apart from the Wireless card, the refresh also dealt with the updated high-end CPU (Core i7-4650U with HD5000 graphics).

As you wrote, the increase in performance between the HD4400 (GT2) and the HD5000 (GT3) is ~20% on average but that's quite a lot in terms of graphic power... especially since it's not a dedicated GPU hence not as powerful. I don't play games at all but I need occasional 3D rendering power (CAD and 3D rendering) so that's the main reason I went for the i7-4650U: the improved integrated GPU (coupled with more overall performance).

What I can say is that the M.2. PCI-e 4x SSD (NGFF SSD) is a killer. It's the best available speed vs. the lowest power consumption combination. Mind blowing speed compared to my previous SSD-equipped VAIO...

Also, I've been impressed by the battery mileage: about 8 hours of light use (internet and Office) with the integrated one and about 16 hours with both batteries plugged in... with the screen set at its maximum settings (brightness and contrast). I currently have 13 hours left with 77% and 43% remaining life respectively. Again: impressive indeed. On another side note, the sound is surprisingly excellent for such a small computer (quite punchy and loud enough).

I'm afraid I will be running nor draining tests neither benchmarks but I'll report back battery times (both in extensive and low usage) when I have enough experience and figures.

In Microsoft Office (especially in Word), yesterday I typed a multiple-page document (~10 pages) at average speed and did not notice any particular flex (and, once again, the keyboard's great, with an excellent layout [not too big, not too small], as always on VAIOs).

As far as I'm concerned, when typing, it's absolutely unnoticeable so it's a no-problem. Maybe Sony has tried to fix a wee bit the issue between the SVP1321 and SVP1322 series... I don't know.

In any case, if I firmly press onto the middle of the keyboard, the carbon fiber chassis bends a (very small) bit but it's far from shocking, to be honest. Totally acceptable IMO since I don't see it as a design flaw.

Overall ergonomics is very good, I can't see the point with some complaining about the sharp edges... there's no big deal.

This Ultrabook is certainly not perfect (and none is) but very close to perfection.

    OK, enough for today.

Is there a model out yet that has 8.1 pre-installed and all it's drivers available for 8.1 from the site?
It seems even the latest orders on here seem to still show ALL drivers for windows 8, and some for 8.1. It's a shame we can't just download the latest drivers for the latest OS version and all of them rather than mixing and matching with 8

It's been awhile since this has been asked, but I figure I'd give it another shot: Anyone have any luck hooking up their Vaio Pro to an external monitor that can display something higher than 2048x1152?

Whenever I try hooking up HDMI-HDMI or HDMI-DVI (dual link) to something like a Dell U2711 (2560x1440), it only goes up to 1920x1080.

However, I have no problems connecting to an old Samsung Syncmaster 2343BWX and displaying its native 2048x1152.

    thx, George

I did the R1044V7 BIOS update and after few days tried to do system image recovery done with the older firmware, but now I get error the I can't restore image done with different bios firmware. Is there a way around this, so I can restore the older image?

In the Vaio SVZ forum there is a monitor driver for the U2711 which allows full resolution albeit at reduced refresh rate to stay within the bandwidth limitations of HDMI. I used this on my SVZ and can confirm it works. I assume this display driver would work on the Vaio Pro as well but I have not tried it. I hope you can find it easily because I do not have link handy.

I received the Vaio Pro 13 (old model SVP1321) few days ago.

It's all ok and awesome...but there's a thing that is making me crazy that I don't understand. Is normal that there is a difference in balance in the chassis? I mean, while the left part of the base is pretty close to the surface, the right one I can see is not completely sticking to it, making the laptop wobble a bit in that side if I push (meaning that the right side of the base tends slightly upwards). Also, I have the feeling that, when the laptop is closed, there is more space between the base and the lid than how should be.

Dunno if this could be normal, considering that the carbon fibre is flexible and also that it's a refund (bought on the Outlet Store), so I couldn't expect perfection...but still seems strange to me. Hope you can clear me up on this.

    Thanks!

Could you tell me if it's normal that the touchpad makes a hollow sound (similar to a "click" but less loud) when tapping in the corners and in the bottom of it?

Because I read something about it in the pages below and I would like to know if it's really a normal thing or it's only a matter of luck. Anyway, is it possible to fix it in some way, or there is no choice? It's really annoying the touch feeling i get... :(

It is quite normal as the bottom portion of touch pad makes a soft click sound (for left & right click)

ive to tap really hard to get a click ;) (but then again thats how all trackpads work)

i found a different issue with the trackpad tho.. if i type with laptop on my belly - with wrist on the laptop, it pushes hard enough for the trackpad to click... from the botton of the chassis (effectively making it a "belly-click") - and no, no fat :p

thats quite a big design flaw that i havent seen mentionned elsewhere. i did a work around by enabling clicking on top of the trackpad instead of bottom but its still.. wierd.

the other 2 issues ive found with it are more well known
    - the fan does goes on more often than id think is necessary - more often than my Z which has a mucher higher TDP. i believe thats because its missing the large air intake of the Z underneath the laptop. the pro is flat. looks cool but....
    - the arrow keys of the qwerty keyboard are dumb as hell. should have cut this shift key size down and have proper separation.

basically all these 3 are design failures that sony must have known about.

no issue with wifi tho :p (or anything else for that matter, its a great laptop otherwise)

Actually, to be more precise, if I gently touch the bottom and side areas of the touchpad I can feel it wobble a little inside the chassis...I think it's this that makes the click sound, the touchpad isn't so firmer in the carbon case.

I have also another question: is it normal that the chassis base doesn't fit completely the surface? I mean that the chassis of mine is not fully straight but a little concave and the sides tends upwards and so they doesn't touch the surface. For this reason I think it trembles more when I press on the keys...

    Thanks in advance for help

i dont have either of our issues but im guessing they're related
sounds like your chassis is a little bent - i suppose thats why the touchpad clicks
mine sits straight, no click (unless i make a real click)

Yes, it is somehow normal, or at least there are a lot of people complaining about this: Re: VAIO Pro 13 Touch Pad Sticking - Page 2 - Sony's Community Site I've suplemented mine with a small bumper, so the bottom of the touchpad is not in the air when the lid is open.

No, is not normal at all, but the carbon-chassis has its problems IMHO. I've returned my first unit just because the lid did not close properly, and was prone to pop-open on transport. This one is a bit better but not outstanding, and this unit was manufactured almost 10.000 units before the other one (by the serial number). So, yeah, so far I'm unimpressed by Sony's QA.

Something I also noticed is the not-so-sensible arrow keys. If you press them very gentle, sometimes they miss the push, especially the down arrow. This guy is also complaining about this: Re: [New Sony Vaio Pro] Wifi Issue! - Page 116 - Sony's Community Site

EDIT: turns out this could be software-related, perhaps a side effect after a long standby/hibernation. Arrows keys are still weak, but I feel them more responsive after a reboot. Also, I recently updated the BIOS, so, could be related.

yea mine has also perfect arrow keys, i tested for a while. well perfect touch that is. the missing spacing between up/down arrow keys is a little annoying but not horrible.

Yeah, it is normal. If you notice, the button is also bent, meaning it's not just the chassis, but the whole frame. It is bent so the keys don't touch and don't mark/dent the screen. I have that concave thing as well, and I also wondered if that was normal, and that conclusion is logical IMHO.

Could anyone tell me your fan noise after updating the new bios(R1044V7)? Is it really reduced in the silence mode?

    Thanks for replies!

I have the feeling that all the chassis base is a little bent (and so the keyboard), and that this may affect the laptop wobbling while typing, but also the heat dissipation making the fan go louder. This fact is giving me a lot of paranoias of "what should and should not be".

    Thanks that helped!
Yes I noticed it. Curiosity, even to you when you press the keys quickly the screen tremble a lot?

I can confirm that it is the down arrow :( And I'm out of time to ask for a replacement, so, I'm going to test using other OS just in case, but if this unit must go to repair in less than a month of purchase, I´m not happy.

Oh, I misunderstood the question. Yes, I also thought it was weird, but its normal.

Sorry for bothering you with questions, but I'd really like to know from you if some things that I've also noticed these days are normal or not, maybe answering completely. I need this because I'm deciding whether or not returning it. So here it goes, the strange things I noticed:

    - In fan "silence" mode (doesn't matter which power plan I use) it's pretty impossibile to play a 1080p youtube video without lag and stuttering, so it's unwatchable unless I at least change to fan mode "standard" and disable Intel CPPC from power saving settings (that I don't even know what does).
    - Even if I run old 3D games (example: 2006) I can play them well (without throttling or stuttering) only with fan "performance" mode, and in this case the fan noise is REALLY loud, similar to that of my gaming notebook that has two fans (!!!)
    - I have the glossy touch version, and I can notice that there is a luminous line surrounding the borders, as if there is a little distance between the display and the glass. Not annoying at all, but not good anyway.
    - The touch doesn't work after power up, and it seems to activate randomly only by closing the lid and open it again. I tried really everything, still no solution to that.

Thanks a lot for help guys!

I did not stressed this machine yet, but the fan kicks full speed while updating and yes, it is noisy as my old (RIP) Envy 14 with dual fans. I'm still learning the hardware, but if you look on advanced power manager, there are many options to try and tweak, including Intel CPPC and graphic performance.

If you're seeing a glow, yeah, I see it too and in my experience almost all IPS panels have this kind of backlight bleeding (they also have a natural "purple" glow if you look at them from a particular angle. That usually magnifies the problem).
If you see a very defined white line, that means the panel is off center, and it is not normal at all.

Didn´t noticed this one. Are you on Windows 8 or 8.1?

Still testing the arrow keys thing ;) Seems to happen if you push the key near the bottom edge, since the sensor seems to be placed near the top. Looks like a design flaw more than a tech problem. Anyone managed to remove one of this keys to take a look at the sensors?
