    @ ferchomovil:

Ehm I appreciate your work but actually (don't take it as an offence, as it is not) it's a little bit nonsense, because if you only want to install latest Intel generic drivers, you only have to uninstall sony's ones and then install the latest. Doesn't matter if via .exe or .zip file, if you uninstall the old ones well it won't create problems in both ways. ;)

As to the performance issue you're describing when using .exe file, I installed the latest intel drivers this way (also tried with .zip info file) and definitely don't have such problems. Generally I don't see how that could be possible because, instead, I got the performance (also in games) increased after installing that drivers with simple uninstall/install ;)

This may have already been covered but I searched the thread and couldn't find this exact issue.

About an hour ago I updated the BIOS on my Sony Vaio Pro 13 to R1044V7. I have a password on the BIOS only and had been into the BIOS not 15 minutes prior to installing the update.

Soon after updating, I tried to go back into the BIOS. Strangely, it wouldn't accept my password. I thought that maybe the password had been reset to a default but couldn't find any mention of this anywhere.

Then I find the following update notes:

    Issues Resolved:
    ...
    - The dialog "Password does not match. Re-enter Password" displays when setting the BIOS password with the Caps Lock on
    - The BIOS password displays incorrectly when being set with the Caps Lock off

OK, that's great, so my BIOS password was never actually what I thought it was and was only ever accepted because the bug existed in the setting of the password as well as the entering.

But now I have no idea what my BIOS password is set to. Does anyone know how it would be set?

For example, if (I thought) my password was "ABcdEFGH", is it actually "abcdefgh", or "ABCDEFGH", or "abCDefgh"? None of these seem to actually work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can still use my PC, but being locked out of my BIOS due to a crappy bug is _not_ impressive.

Hello, guys! I haven't purchased this laptop yet, but I have an opportunity to get a used/refurbished one for ~650$ at my place. I think it's worth it, but maybe someone thinks it is outdated and I should consider another ultrabook?
Also, I've googled lots of problems about it. Are they all solvable? I'm talking about: poor wifi, noisy fan, overheating, throttling, keyboard feedback? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a steal instead of just a deal. You can always sell it on if you dislike it. The screen is lovely on these.

I bought the SVP1322 model recently and had problems with the display screen.

Firstly, the right side of the screen was noticeably brighter than the left side of the screen. I returned it to the service center, and they replaced it with a new screen. That fixed the problem. But the other problem I had with the screen was that the color tone is yellowish, so white colors appear off-white or yellowish. Even with the new screen, colors has a similar yellowish undertone. For eg, the background color of PDF documents look off white. And all my photos look kinda yellowish. I compared the color tone for the same photos against my tablet (Samsung TabPro 10.1), and the latter certainly look more life-like and vibrant. At least whites appear as white. The color settings (Vivid, Natural, Text etc) in the Vaio Control Center doesn't seem to make much difference.

I'm disappointed as the product reviews highlight that the Viao Pro 13 has good color reproductions, and this is one of the reasons I bought it.

I wonder whether there is any other hardware (graphics adaptor?) problem, other than the screen itself? The graphics driver is the latest version, so I rule that out. Does anybody else feel that the color tone is yellowish? I wonder whether I should send my unit back to the service center again, or just accept that this color tone is "normal" for Vaio Pro 13?

    Hello,
    I have got 2 questions:

    • Any chance toremove the ScrLk icon from task bar without affecting Fn function?
    • Any SONY software to manage connections Wifi/Bluetooth where I can enable/disable?

    Thanks

I don't know about the first question but regarding the second one, do the following:

    Press Windows key + I
    Click on "Change PC settings"
    Click on "Network"
    Click on "Airplane mode"
    Change/manage all connections from here

    Hi

I have SVP13213SG, I'm wondering if I can answer and make calls over Bluetooth with this laptop.
I can do that on my Lenovo AIO, but its Bluetooth chip is from Qualcomm while SVP is from Intel.
I've been finding the settings on my SVP to allow calls but I can't seem to find that.

    Any suggestions?

Can you please list the correct order to install the Sony Utilities and rest of vaio software if required after clean WIN8.1 install.

    Thank you

Colors are beautiful. The only displays that have the yellow issue are the Samsung ATIV Book 9+ and the Lenovo Yoga 2.

If the visual output doesn't satisfy you, you could change it in the Vaio Control Center (there are various option for colors, the default one is "vivid") ;)

    Hi,

Got a weird problem that I've had with my Sony VAIO Pro that has been happening since I got it last November.

When I transport the laptop it can turn on without anything pushing the power button. Since I transport it within a case/bag, the laptop just heats up without any ventilation. When I do notice that my bag is alot warmer than it should be, I take the laptop out and it has the Sony diagnostics screen and the fan usually running almost full speed. It just appears that a sudden knock or something makes it power on by itself? Anyone experience this and know how to resolve it?

    Thanks.

A question to the owners - how is the heat during the summer ?

Is it manageable to work or it gets overheated ?

I am still wondering (and waiting for the store) should I get the SVP13. The outlet here had a really good deal for the i7 version, but missed it...

There is a reason the 1321 model is on sale everywhere (at least in Europe) now; They make a hell of a lot of noise.

The thing is that there is no solid proof the 1322 has any update on the cooling system at all... could be BIOS "hacks" to keep the CPU relaxed and so on...

Yeah my guess is maybe improved thermal paste and then altered firmware for the fan/fan controller. Because it seems the laptop doesn't actually get that hot, it's just the fan starts spinning early, and is kind of high-pitched (in some cases). I'm waiting to get mine back from repair for noise, for the second time. Bought the laptop two months ago and have used it in total for about 5 days :/

Upgrade based on size or performance ?

It won't be cheap, since you already have the 256GB version ( based on the model number ).

Current options in the UK are :
    512GB: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ITFZTHC
    256GB: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ITFZTLI
The M550 is quite fast M.2 SATA SSD, maxes out the SATA interface easily.

I don't think you can upgrade it with PCIe SSD however.

BTW how is the noise at your SVP1321 ? Any good, bad ? I've been looking at Vaio Pro for some time in the UK Outlet, but nothing interesting and don't want to take the SVP1321 myself.

Are all the 1322's made in 2014?

Has the WiFi antenna issue of 1321`s (poor reception) been fixed in 1322's?

Yes I believe all the 1322s are from 2014 (spring refresh).

The wifi issue has been fixed with driver updates for both models.

I just got mine back after second repair. Sony again changed the fan. To no avail, it's still very loud and spins almost with no activity. It seemed to me that there was less noise before I installed 8.1 though...

Sorry for a late response; I haven't checked this thread in a while. My SVP11 (no touchscreen) has a bit of a yellow tint as well, so I think what you're seeing is normal. I've had the same problem with the IPS screen in Thinkpad X220. Basically, good color gamut as indicated in the reviews does not mean that the default color temperature is not off. In fact, I don't think I've had a PC laptop in the last five years with a good out-of-the-box color balance (no doubt one exists, but I haven't had the privilege). In my case I have a hardware calorimeter so I used it to create an ICC profile that removed that yellow tint. If you don't have a calorimeter, you should probably still be able to find a suitable ICC profile online and use it on your system (e.g., notebookcheck usually publishes them in their reviews).

I thought about a little something that could make the fan noise a little nicer, why not lower your resolution to 1600x900?? I'm pretty sure you won't see any difference between that and the 1080p resolution. Will it help??? BTW on win8.1 it doesn't allow me the 1600x900 option, it just goes immediately to 1280x1024. Any ideas ??

EDIT : found a way to change the resolution to 1600x900, we'll be testing the fan noise in the next few days

Hi all, I have a Vaio Pro 13, model # SVP1322, 8GB ram. I've been having a problem where I restart the laptop but after the screen that says "Restarting" it simply just goes black with the power LED on green. The fan is on and silent. The only way to get out of it is a hard reset by pushing and holding the power button.

One thing I would like to mention is that shutting down the laptop and turning it on is fine. I'm on the power saving plan with silent cooling. I've also changed the power setting so that the screen does not turn off on plugged or on battery. Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Where it is that new firmware??

No way!!! Only the recent Intel Wi-Fi drivers 17.0.5 on station-drivers fixed most of my Wi-Fi problems but still haven't fixed 100% of it. I have a USB rj45 dangle and I have no problems when connected to Internet via that.
With Wi-Fi, specially when seeing some broadcast videos, I have a great amount of packet losses and timeouts. No problem with my Nexus 5 and 7...

Sorry I think I was wrong that firmware is actually some months ago. Not sure though. You should be able to find it on Sony's site when searching for you model number.

    @Glacena
To begin with try changing you screen on/off settings to default and see if that changes anything. Then we can take it from there.

Do you have a 1322 2014 model? My understanding of the WiFi problem on 1321 is a poor WiFi antenna placement. No amount of drivers can fix that. Remember "iPhone antenna gate and the bumper fix"?

However, I was hopeful that Sony moved the WiFi antenna elsewhere in 1322 in 2014 models.

    cheers for the links.

I'm looking to upgrade for space reasons, my 256 is getting a little tight.

The noise of mine is fine generally. watching videos and photoshop etc make the fan go a bit but it never really bothers me. Right now it's barely audible.

Maybe I got a good one or maybe people are making a mountain out of a molehill, I don't know.

It's certainly way better on noise than my previous 17" vaio.

I got my 1321 model, (core i5, 256gig ssd) back from the second repair -fan replacement, again. Noise is a bit better, but the ting still starts although there is barely no load on the system. I can live with it for now, don't feel like prolonging the fight with Sony over this. It's a great laptop apart from the noise, and maybe the touchpad but that's due to it's thinnes. No Wi-Fi issues so far. I would recommend people to disable everything they do not need in their OS' (startup items, unnecesary services etc.) in order to reduce load, and thereby fan noise.

Mine now randomely turns on when on battery (with battery well above 50%)
sometimes it turns back on, sometimes it doesnt.

plugging in power, booting, then unplugging power fixes it for a while then it happens again. pressing the reset button in the sheet battery slot doesn't help. there's no bad contact in the laptop (i opened it). it has the bios update since day 1, too.

wondering if that issue is more widespread. it looks like an ACPI issue of sorts...

well looks like my trackpad got screwed up and broke. The right side won't respond anymore for some reason, I can't access the charms menu, the scrolling also doesn't work on the right.

I first thought it was software related but it is not :( I have no idea why it decided to break now, everything was fine.

oh well. Not even sure where I would get it fixed here, probably no point.

Unlikely, I bought it around this time back in Canada while I was over there so the 1 year warranty is probably over or almost over. I am currently in Poland so it would be rather hard to get it back to Canada now. Maybe it will fix itself but I always use an external mouse anyways in the end so not a huge loss.

Ah damn that sucks. Here in Denmark we have a two year store warranty on almost everything. But the trackpad does seem somewhat flimsy, I'm using an external mouse as well.

I just got a Pro 13 that was reset to factory conditions.
I upgraded to Windows 8.1, finding out only afterwards that I was supposed to create backup media before doing that.
The upgrade has corrupted the recovery partition, and the machine won't let me enter recovery when pressing the Assist button.
I saw that the recovery partition itself is still there and filled with stuff. Does anyone have any idea what I could try to reactivate it?

I've still failed on getting fan controls / drivers loaded. What a PITA.

I'm considering buying this laptop. Are there any issues I need to know about?

    Hi there,

My Sony Vaio Pro 13 came pre-installed as a French multi-lingual version. I managed to change the windows 8 language to English easiliy.

The problem is that when I press the Assist button when the laptop is completely off, the Vaio Zone menu is still in French. How can I change the Vaio Zone menu that appears using the Assit button to English.

Please note this is nothing to do with the Vaio Zone installed as part of Windows 8. This is purely the Vaio zone that appears when the PC is off and turned on using the Assist button.

    Any help would be appreciated.
