Your reponse is very vague, I certainly can not find any option to change the language for the Assist button Vaio Zone. You said you 'think', does that mean you do not have a Sony Vaio Pro 13?

If you do have one, can you find the option and let me know?

    Cheers

I've tried a few times to find a solution to why my SVP 1321 keeps bringing up the right click drop down. I can only get rid of it with a full hard reboot.

Is there anyway to enable three finger tap? 3 finger click works, but I want to just tap it instead.

FYI i did call sony support and they sent me to bestbuy as their warranty partner or something. The laptop never got to sony, has not been properly re-assembled, they did not return the power supply, and it looks like they did nothing to fix the problem at first sight at least... .

I tought its a good ideea to ask my question here.
I am thinking about buying a vaio pro, but before i need to be sure i can overclock the 4400hd iGPU with intel extreme tuning software.
i know i shouldn't OC it, i know the risks and i still want to do it. Anyone has prev. experiences with this ?

So has anyone successfully replaced / installed a different M.2 SSD in this laptop? The only ones available really are the Crucial M550, Transcend, and Intel. I like the battery life of this laptop as-is but 128GB just doesn't cut it for any amount of real storage needed. Intel is only max 180GB, but it also has low power consumption and great performance, but for the same price (~ $140-$150) I can get a Crucial M550 or Transcend 256GB.

The option is there but because of TDP limitations even at stock clocks it throttles down anyhow.

So can i remove those tdp limitations ? Sorry if my question is dumb.
I found a 256 gig m2 on newegg for 134$. But i am aiming at 512 gig wich is 260$. But i have no experience with replacing it.
Googled it a bit and found a youtube video. Seems easy.

No way to remove the limitation, it is inherent in the chip itself, not without being able to increase system / CPU TDP which isn't an option.

It is fairly easy, I have the Pro 11, but same config. Just be careful of the memory card slot because my spring door hinge came apart and couldn't get it back together.

I'm debating between Transcend and Crucial M550, but I'm primarily interested in low power over performance. In all honesty, Overall battery life will likely run +/-15 minutes anyhow regardless of which SSD you use.

I believe that you've triggered a bug in Windows 8.1 Update 1 where if you have an icon in the top right of the screen then this stops the hot corners from working.

Hot corners and charm get disabled randomly after installing Windows - Microsoft Community

To get your charms back working either restart the laptop (note: a shutdown in Windows 8/8.1 is not sufficient because hybrid boot doesn't actually "shut down" the system) or open task manager and on the Processes tab find Windows Explorer > right mouse click > restart.

    Hope that helps.

So, the strangest thing occurred today.

A few months ago, the battery on my laptop literally stopped working over-night (it would not charge and was stuck at 44% battery life). However, when I checked the battery health, it said that it was "Excellent". Ever since, I have had my laptop plugged into the charger whenever I was using it. I was planning on contacting SONY since the laptop was, at the time, only four months old and thus, I was sure that it was not a case of the battery's lifespan deteriorating over time. Furthermore, since the battery health remained "Excellent" according to the VAIO itself, there obviously was some other issue with it. Regardless, due to my laziness and being busy at work, I never really got around to contacting SONY to have this issue fixed and simply adjusted to the battery not charging. However, yesterday, I updated the BIOS for the first time (to R1044V7). Today, when I moved my VAIO, plugged in the charger and started it, I noticed that the VAIO hadn't turned off as it usually did when I unplug it. To make sure, I unplugged the charger and the laptop remained on. Furthermore, the battery is being charged as I'm typing this.

I am very curious to know if a BIOS update has resolved a battery issue for anyone else? My leading hypothesis at this point is that the VAIO had automatically updated the BIOS (or perhaps it was me, although I have no recollection of ever using the program 'Vaio Update' until yesterday) and that the BIOS version had caused some sort of incompatibility with the battery/charging. Thus, by updating my BIOS, this incompatibility issue was resolved. Could this have been the case? I have found some examples of users complaining about how a BIOS update caused similar battery issues but since these were all concerning an older VAIO laptop, I thought I'd try asking here.

Thanks Advis. I couldn't find this with the search but did a restore to a couple of weeks ago and all is back working. Must be one of those Windows auto updates. If it happens again I'll try your solution.

hi, i have checked it on the pro13, and there is no option to change the language :<
i got confused because i work with many laptops (repairs, selling), and really most of the new sonys have such option in bios, was quite a surprise when i checked for it on the pro13 and saw that it is not there

So the laptop randomely shutdown when not plugged on the powersupply - unless i press the battery reset button on the back for 2s (WHEN POWERED ON - does nothing if not powered on).
Sometimes I cant even boot the laptop (battery 100% full) if not connected to the power supply (and thus i can't even reset the battery without finding a plug!!)

Sony's warranty is best buy and they have no clue of what they're doing. They press the reset button once and call it a day. Except a few hours later its going to happen again...

My theory is that the battery cycles/usage is being wrongly reported to the battery controller board, which forces a shutdown to avoid going too low voltage on the battery (but it does that by measuring consumed mah, not just voltage, apparently). Going low voltage may cause fire. It must be something that misreport during the runtime, such as via ACPI... I guess.

I wondered if anyone solved this properly. Having the reset the battery every 5min to 12h (depending on luck) is totally unacceptable...

Some people on here earlier in the thread, were talking about having put on new cooling paste on the cpu. Not sure how much it helped with noise though. I'm interested in hearing about this myself if anyone has done something like this with this laptop.

You don't know what you are talking about.
Sony didn't set up their bloatware depending on OS language, BUT depending on the specific country for the model of laptop.

My laptop is a Sony Vaio Pro 13, specifical for Russian market (keyboard in English and Russian). I installed ALL software (OS as you say) in English: windows, office, etc. But still VAIO care comes in Russian, as, when installed, it detected that the model (SPV132A1CV) is sold in Russia.

Don't post if you don't have an specific answer to the issue. You don't help, only confuse and make others lose their time.

Ok so my screen cracked on my new Vaio Pro 13. Touchscreen unresponsive. Called Sony and they said bring it to Geek Squad for repair. Just got a repair quote. $900!!!.
Damn might as well buy a new laptop. Anyone know where I can get parts and replace it myself?

I also posted this in the Vaio Pro 11 thread but realized this thread was more active.

Were the serious wifi issues suffered by the 2013 Vaio Pros ever solved? Or even with the latest drivers under Windows 8.1 does wifi have issues?

Is it possible to replace the wifi card with a newer Intel 7260-AC card?

Other than wifi, any other known, significant issues with the 2013 Vaio Pros?

    Thanks.

Your battery is probably worn out, so it's on it's last days. How long have you had the PC? Seems a bit fast, there should still be warranty if its within 1 year.

Just bought one of these, a refurb. After numerous attempts to update windows i have it on 8.1.

I still have issues with the touchpad pointer flicking and jumping around. I have tried adjusting settings and installing the latest drivers but it is still happening. It is very annoying. Also, not sure if it is the way I use a touchpad but the the computer keeps jumping to different screens and apps, can't seem to find a place to turn off edge gestures as my sanoptics settings has no option. Along with the cursor jumping and this, the computer is almost unusable. currently using a usb mouse.

Also I am I having some weird screen brightness issues that only show on battery. If I jump from a bright screen to a dark screen, the brightness will go darker in 3 stages. Then I say jump to an internet tab with a white background, and the screen will go brighter in three stages. I thought it was some weird windows power management but have turned off adaptive brightness and messed with advanced power management settings but still not working. This only happens when on battery.

After installing windows 8.1 by screen brightness will not change using my FN key.

Is this a dud and should I send it back or am I missing something?

Have you also turned off the "sense brightness" option in the VAIO Control Center? This it the first option under the "Image Quality" tab.

If you open windows mouse settings and find the "Device Settings" tab, and then click "settings", then you should be taken to the Synaptics settings where you can enable and disable auto-gestures etc.

I think I may have fixed the display issue after making some changes in Intel HD graphics settings though I have already been in the synaptics settings and played with all of the settings with no avail. Also my display brightness physical buttons no longer work after windows 8.1 update.

    Thanks

    Thanks

The computer also performs very bad if waking from a long sleep so I have to restart it, which took 5 mins. I also have a busy wining noise coming from the computer constantly , it is not the fan, almost as if the HD is working constantly and making a noise is this normal from a Vaio?, My little Samsung 9 series which also has an ssd is totally silent. The cursor also has a little freez every 20 -50 seconds or so and also shows cursor the load/working action intermittently.

I really wanted this Ultrabook, last of the Vaio series.

I have contacted the shop and asked for a refund. Lets see if I get the mess around.

Starting to have problems with the battery. I have the second battery installed. Battery 1 is on 79% and "charging", battery 2 isn't charging at all. Laptop has to be connected to the power brick otherwise it won't start and would switch off straight away.

Seems to have started after the August Windows Updates.

EDIT: And it's back charging again after faffing about for 3 hours at work today! Seems to be an issue with a lot of Sony laptops and tablets.

I'm having exactly the same problem as above. Trying to install the Sony Firmware Extension Parser and it just sits on "Installing" and doesn't do anything. Task Manager shows that the process cmd.exe is taking up about 20% CPU resources, but nothing is happening.

Exactly same thing happens regardless of whether I download and try to install manually, or by using Vaio Update.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I had this problem when clean installing Windows 8.1 on my Pro. I found that the Sony installer seemed to extract the driver files but just didn't go about installing them, so I went into Device Manager, found the 'Unknown Device', went to install the driver manually and directed Windows to look in my temporary files where it picked up the driver files that the Sony installer extracted. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up solving it (I think) before I saw your reply. I notice that under the Windows 8 section of the Sony driver's page, there's a Firmware Extension Device Driver, and on the Windows 8.1 section, there's only a Firmware Extension Device Driver PATCH. For some reason, Vaio Update only tries to install the PATCH. So I manually installed the "Driver" from the Windows 8 section of the page first, and then ran Vaio Update to install the PATCH, and it worked finally. If I have any more issues I'll certainly give your method a try.

hi everyone, I did a clean reinstall of windows 8.1, and now I am wondering, what utility/driver should I install to get the option "X-reality" in the Sony control panel?

Because now it does not have it there. I have looked through all utilities/drivers on sony support page for SVP1322, but can't find anything like that.. :(

    thank you,

Sadly I'm still having problems with the internal battery. Despite the battery charging to 100% will shut down after several minutes of use. It's as if the battery has not actually charged at all. I have pressed the battery reset button several times and confirmed as Windows reports the battery disconnecting. Battery stats in various tools shows that the battery is ok. Looking around other Sony laptops have this problem too. Already had to send the laptop back for WiFi and fan rework. Here I go again...

Did you guys have that problem, when the laptop is on battery, and it's on balanced or power save plans (both have low a cpu speed), when you play a sound, it goes all crackled on the speakers?!? Very annoying... only solution is to put on performance plan, or plug the power to the laptop... or change the way that balanced plan sets cpu speed when on battery.

But I'm having a bigger problem...
A few days ago, all was ok with my sony. Then I decided to install some new drivers from intel (don't remember if they are betas or stable drivers).
I rebooted and bam... Automatic recovery loop... stuck on it...
I decided to do pretty much everything but I can't fix this...
In the recovery, going to Troubleshoot and Advaced Options:

If I go to System restore, to restore from a restore point, I only got one restore point, it doesn't show any other restore points, it's before installing the drivers, but when I try to use that restore point, nothing happens. I installed two drivers, maybe the issue it's caused from the first driver that I installed, but as I said I don't get any other restore points...

System Image Recovey, I don't have any....

Startup Repair, try that, but doesn't do anything...

The other 3 options, command prompt doesn't do also much any thing, altought I didn't try some commands that I googled... about fixing the boot...
Then on the Startup Settings, the old windows boot menu, with safe mode and stuff like that, none can help me...
I did turn off the automatic restart after fault and I now I know what is causing the loop:

I got the famous "Error code 0xc0000001"
And nothing else written... sometimes have one more detail...
    And this is pretty vague...

Back to the recovery, I wanted to try the Refresh your PC, but first I wanted to backup my files.
I tried the Vaio recovery solutions, to backup my files to an external drive, but the process takes too long and aborted by itself in the middle of the process...

I also made a WinPE (5.1) boot usb drive. It great to backup my files, but it's very basic, doesn't have a graphical explorer and that way it's very hard to backup manually the directories that I want...
Does anyone knows a WinPE alike boot drive that has better tools to backup your data ?? Like the old winpe for xp... that was very cool...
Also I miss how easy was to restore the registry files from System Volume Information on Winxp, that was so easy...

As a last resort, I decided to use the Refresh your PC without backup my files, as it state that I don't loose any of my files... but when I try that, I get, Insert your windows installation or recovery media...
Duh?!? Wan't suppose this laptop to have a partition that would have that stuff for this?!? What the...

Any more tips?!? I'm trying to avoid the Reset your PC....
If anyone can help me here....

Need technical advice on prolonging the life of my battery.

I almost always use my laptop with the power plugged in. I've set the Battery Care function to 50%.

Is it advisable that I unplug the laptop from the mains, and drain my battery completely, now and then? (Weekly/monthly basis?) Or is it fine just to leave it almost always charged at 50%?

    Thanks

About my problem, I recovered my files with a ubuntu live cd...
I tried to fix my laptop by using Refresh my Pc, but I couldn't. I was fed up, I decided to start from 0. After the process I realized that everything worked except I couldn't activate WIFI connections, no matter what I did...
I then realized that when using Ubuntu I turn off wifi to save some battery and that was the cause... If you turned wifi off over linux, when you boot over windows again, you can't turn on wifi!!! It took me some time to realize this...
    But now everything is fine.

Yes, I've experienced the same with Windows 8. Updating to 8.1 (or perhaps simply to the latest Intel wifi driver?) fixed it.

Here's my experience with my new Pro 13:
I bought it after I got a good offer that I couldn't resist - despite being nervous about the damning reports of loud fans. However, my Pro 11, about which people also complained is very quiet, so I took the plunge.
And I don't regret it. With CPU and fan profile set to silence, the fan is so quiet that I can't hear it when I do some normal web surfing and word processing. All in all I'm very happy with this machine.
The only thing that bothers me is that the WiFi card never gets about 30Mbits (I have a 100Mbit connection at home).
And another annoying detail is that VAIO Care wouldn't update to the latest version. I tried to uninstall it - couldn't, or at least only partially. Tried to re-install it - couldn't either. The Win8 version still works, but it doesn't run the checks, and I can't burn recovery DVDs.

If I was you, won't turn fan profile to silence... Even in balance battery profile it locks the CPU speed to 0.7ghz and even causes glitches to the sound

Last week I got my Notebook back from service. They didn't do anything about the poor wifi, but I got a new screen. Now I realized the new one has better colors and has a much better visual angle too

    Got this form the display:
I took these pictures with max. brightness.

    Short display test:
    srgb.jpg NTSC.jpg
    95% sRGB and 72% NTSC
My display seems to has a green cast. This can be corrected with monitor calibration.

You're in luck, I just fixed it!

After a lot of tinkering around I figured that if I pressed a certain area the laptop would shutdown (I only noticed because i forced myself to use the laptop and it would shutdown more and more often over time). I opened it and that area is where the power supply cable is plugged into the motherboard... and that was where the issue was. Pins moved over time (even thus the plug itself did not move), more and more, and eventually just pressing slightly on the plug would short the contact.

turns out this plug's pins are glued... this shows sony knew about the issue and did that as a work around. Well, that work around isnt sufficient dear sony - thats a pretty big flaw if you ask me. But they probably knew that too... thats a little bit annoying that they shipped it with such a bad fix, in full knowledge of the issue.

Anyway, the fix is to remove the plug, push the pins fully back in (if necessary, heat up the glue so that it holds again), then plug back in, reset battery a last time.. tada, functional laptop, no more shutdowns.

    This is the faulty plug:
