    Slaughter,

When you did installed your SSD how did you get your image from the factory drive onto your SSD? Or did you just start from scratch and rebuild the SSD from a custom install?

Also how is your SSD performing? Ive been looking into buying one and was mainly concerned with compatibility and trying to preserve the sony recovery partition. Also do you have to do anything special to enable TRIM support for it?

Hey Fellas. I'm having an issue(most likely user error) with EVGA Precision. After I set my settings I click apply and instead of keeping what I set it goes back to the default settings for my gpu. Anyone have a solution or experience this??

I'm waiting since 2 month to buy this laptop (cw27fx) but I'm leaving in Canada and Bestbuy.ca only sell core3 model!! And not possible to buy on bestbuy.com (they not ship to canada) There's another site where I can buy it ?

The only alternative here it's the samsung r480 sith core5, gt330m but build quality inferior, small touchpad, etc. :(

I don't understand why I can't buy a cw with all option I want on sonystyle.ca (and I know it's the same thing on sonystyle.com) Sony don't want to sell this laptop full equiped ? They want we buy the new Z at 2000$ !?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've done some searches and only managed to find very old threads. Do the CWs support HDCP so that I can hook up to TV with HDMI to watch movies? In the specs on a site where I was gong to buy it says non-HDCP compliant, but I was a bit surprised given that laptops on there from Acer were HDCP compliant. Does Sony avoid HDCP for some reason?

    Thanks
    S.

I just popped in the SSD and did a clean install. I made recovery discs from my OEM HDD just in case, but I'll be doing clean installs if I ever need to format.

The SSD is great but to be honest, the performance isn't night and day like some claimed. My boot time is like 20 seconds and my program installations are much faster now but besides that I haven't really noticed a crazy difference. I don't really have any intense programs installed right now though so perhaps that's why. All I've been doing so far is word processing and web browsing so everything's fast regardless.

What do you even mean? "Fragile" is subjective.

Can you post photos with different things (bright/dark) on the screen? Maybe outdoors?

This seems like a good thing if it's simple to install and helps with glare. I especially would like it if it just helped keep the screen clean and prevent scratches.

it won't work until Apple updates for i5/i3 chips. Once that happens it should work fine, due to the artheros wifi card.

I'm curious about everyone's fan noise. My fan isn't excessively loud but it does come on quite a bit even though my temperatures are just fine. Just kinda annoying I guess...I don't recall the fan coming on nearly this much in the first gen CW, if ever.

    Hi CWers,

Is it just me, or does your C26/27's harddrive never shut up? I mean the HDD LED is always blinking, I can't get the thing to stop. No programs are running, just system and systray processes.

What bloatware is causing this, or is it the nature of Win7 in general?

    A video to demonstrate it:

Maybe your temps are fine because of the fans. :D

Some say it's bulky, others are fine with it. Dimensions can be seen on the Newegg.com listing of the same model (CW27). To compare and give you a feel, try using SizeEasy.com. :)

In my opinion, a little bulkiness may help with airflow, which may help with temperature control....but that's just my non-technical thinking. I don't know if this is true or even makes a difference.

Many have noted the same thing. I believe it also happens after a clean install. It could just be the way it is with Windows. Some suggest turning off "file indexing" though others say this is not the source.

Either way, it's "normal" so probably not a defect or a reason to turn, if that's what you were thinking and planning to do.

I don't see why it's not easy. It's just a matter of making the mold to cut it. Seems easy as pie.

I might jump in on this. The super glossy exterior just makes me a bit antsy. I've already got a tiny scratch on the palm rest. Very irritating as nothing other than my palm is on it.

Overall day-to-day performance you probably won't see much difference. Someone posted their experience with a SSD, and the post said the main difference was seen when installing programs and booting up.

With that said, you can probably get an idea of how much difference it would be changing from a 5400 to a 7200 HDD. Virus scanning, copying files, and such can be beneficial to the upgrade, but other than than, I personally don't see much hurry to upgrade.

Thanks for this! I thought it was only me (or in this case, my brother) who noticed the tiny sound that came from what he surmised to be the fan! At least, I'm not alone in this. :) Is there any way to resolve this? To somehow make the fan quieter?

Hello all, I am new to these forums...

    I recently bought a Sony Vaio CW2Z1E (i3 330M 2.13Ghz, NVIDEA GeForce GT 330M with 512MB, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD) to replace my old Vaio FE28B.

I've tried removing some of the Sony Bloatware... for example 'VAIO Premium Partners' by using Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, but it doesnt seem to work, they are all still there even after I have gone through the uninstall. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? It worked for things like the MS Office Trial and Norton/McAfee Trials which went without a problem.

I quite like the VAIO Gate (very Macbook....) so am leaving that but want to get rid of the rest really as it's mostly useless!

Also, I was expecting my laptop to come with the WEB button for quickboot to Splashtop browser, but it seems on this newer CW model that they have got rid of it?! I have ASSIST, DISPLAY OFF and VAIO buttons. Does anyone know if it's possible to set this up yourself and assign it to either the ASSIST or VAIO button (or launch it some other way?).

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Darren
