Just got mine. Still trying to figure out which softwares are actaully important & which can be done away with.
BTW, the chicklet keyboard is a joy to type on. -
^^
how much did you get it for ? What games have you tried yet ? -
-
I have not been able to try out games since I had to go to another city to buy the laptop. I'll post some results after reaching back home. -
I am from Kerala,India....i got it for Rs51500....Dealer price....Customer price is Rs52500 here...
@avmaxfan : have u tried connecting vaio to 3DTV....what to do after connecting... can normal sony LCD TV achieve it? -
^^
Basically if you have any 3D movie or photo or video on the laptop, you need to connect it to a 3D HDTV (any brand not just Bravia) and you can view 3D content on the TV using the glasses bundled with your 3D TV.
It will only work on a 3D TV of course
And no my Z does not support 3D over HDMI, so I haven't. -
so the TV is converting the videos to 3D,not the laptop..right?..I have mentioned earlier in my post that i saw my friend palying games in 3D...nvidia graphics card is converting it to 3D...its amazing to play eventhough it make pain in your eyes if u play for long time...i hoped my card have that capability too...its not there....how about converting videos to 3D using powerdvd11...?tips to make it better.... -
^^ Yes that is right. Power DVD 11 will also require a 3D TV
As for Nvidia, yes with Nvidia cards you can play games, movies, photos in 3D. You just need to buy the Nvidia 3D Vision Kit and connect it to a 3D monitor or 3D TV. Most mid and high end Nvidia cards support 3D Vision. Dell XPS 15 with Nvidia GT 540 for example supports it.
Unfortunately AMD is not so big on 3D gaming, only two AMD cards support AMD HD3D- the 6970 and 6870 which you find in high end gaming notebooks only. -
3D gaming on a laptop is pointless. Laptop GPUs are already anemic enough, and trying to add 3D will only make things worse. I could barely play 3D games with a GTX 580 on my desktop, imagine playing with a laptop GPU, specially than 540m
-
I installed iZ3D and it changed games to 3D..(red cyan).no need of 3D TV...AMD mentioned it in their website...and TotalMedia Theatre 5 too...
-
^^
What are you using then to view 3D ? You bought red cyan 3D glasses and viewing 3D on the CB screen? If that's the case then it isn't actually "true 3D" should I say ? Viewing 3D via red cyan glasses is not GPU dependent. -
yes,i know its not true 3D...i just wanted to play games and view movies in 3D.See the attachment for the options in iZ3D...

I don't see the webcam being listed under "Scanners & Cameras". So if I format my PC & fresh install Windows, would I lose the webcam functionality ?
The webcam works only with the provided Arcsoft Webcam software which is a paid software. Is there any way to transfer registration after fresh install ? -
There are some labs working on real 3D devices, but that's a ways away.

The webcam just works off of drivers. I use it for Skype all the time no problems.

Anyway, Does anyone in here already tried to using usb modem for connecting to internet on ur vaio? anyone noticed the CB CTO option is not available on sonystyle.com?it seems only CA has custom to order option now
-
-

if that's the case, then, i think even CA wont have custom order... the hardware is almost the same

does anyone here tried to install street fighter IV (pc version)?? is there any graphics issue? i hope nothin
-
-
Of course I set up in switchable graphics to use High Usage (R 6630m)
Does N1 already solve this ? (CCC version 8.821.0.0 catalyst 11.2 mobilty win7_64) with all .NET tramework versions installed!!
VPCCB 17FX -
i love this game
-
So, has anyone got the 6630m overclocked?. I have tried MSI Afterburner, that detects the clocks, but can't oc them, and Trixx, and doesn't even detect the clocks.
-
anyone here using SSD?? do you know some cheap priced SSD? or should i go for the usual price out there ? thanks
-
*planning to record some benchmark test with batman Arkham assylum n also cod 4*
-
-
-
Yes, a 3 year old program will work on a 2011 graphics card. It didn't even detect the card. -
Download Sapphire TriXX. It will let you overclock your 6630m for sure
EDIT:
I just read you already tried TriXX, I am not sure what is wrong, but TriXX certainly works. -
This Video is my first attempt: YouTube - SF4 video flickering‏ -
First time at the forum, desperately needing a question answered regarding the Vaio C - series (2011 Sandy Bridge models)
I happened to test one at a Sony showroom here, but faced quite a wierd issue with the trackpad.
I saw that I lost control of the mouse pointer when dragging, if I touch the trackpad with another finger. I had to then lift my finger off the trackpad and then again continue dragging to get my cursor moving on the screen again.
I first realized this when I tried doing a two-finger scroll.
I might live without the two finger scrolling, but my mouse cursor becoming stationary (and staying that way) when I accidentally touch another finger on the trackpad is not fun.
Can somebody with a C-Series confirm if updating the drivers would fix this?
I'm considering an C-Series (i7, 2620M) model (available in Asia VPCCB17FG : C Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India) -

YouTube - SF4 running switchable graphics (Sony Vaio)‏
Basicly, follow the existing instructions here, later installs CCC 11.2 , you should install CCC 11.5 ocl , links is in this thread too
Good games -
If you use two fingers when dragging it will obviously not work as its not meant to. No driver update will fix this. Its a multi touch touchpad and using multiple fingers triggers an action. Like when use two fingers, it zooms in or out or blah blah. You only need to use one finger to drag, I don't really understand what the fuss is about ??????
And why are you going with CB17 ? No offence but that model is simply not worth paying 15k extra for a processor that should cost just 2k more and a larger HDD.
In that budget look at Dell XPS 17 with FHD, i7 2720qm and GT540M. -
Sorry if this has been asked before - what can one reasonably expect from a VPCCB290X CTO 15.3" in battery time? I'm thinking of buying one with the AMD video card and higher resolution screen.
Also, what memory does this use, I'm thinking of upgrading the memory on my own.

I'll be wait for your comment on there. Thx -
@Pauldmps, everyone
Can you check if you can overclock the 6630M with Sapphire TriXX ??? -
-
I bought the extended battery, so I would think maybe 5 hours for mine, if they are configured identically.
I'm putting in an SSD for the hard drive, so I hope that will also add to battery life.
thanks -
-
^^
What kind of a boost did you notice after overclocking??? -
:
Here are the results
3DMark 06 default (485/800): 6747
3DMark 06 600/800: 7305
3D Mark 06 600/900 (6650M): 7774
3D Mark 06 700/900 (almost 6730M): 8135
After raising the core to 600, a 23%, the results increased only an 8%. After a 12% increase in mem clock, the results increased a much better 15%. Even taking the core clock to the limit on Trixx (700 is the limit, it wouldn't go higher), and keeping the memory at 900, the increase in performance was merely 20%, despite a 44% increase in core clock.
I don't like to overclock the memory too much, as this is the weakest part of the card, and it's harder to see if the overclock is over the limit.
Anyway, you can take it to 6730M levels with ease.
And the temps and noise barely changed from stock, just 2-3º C more. -
