I regret ever buying this thing. Early CB buyer, still waiting on a lovely BIOS fix. If it were possible to sell this for close to what I paid, I'd do it already.

Funny you should mention that. I filed a complaint about this with the Better Business Bureau, who then forwarded the complaint to Sony's National Customer Relations on my behalf. Someone from Sony called me the next day, offering to buyback my laptop at full purchase price.

They sent me a box and I'm shipping it back to them today. Apparently, it takes up to 4 weeks to receive a check, but hey, if they can't fix the problem this is the next best thing.

    Best,
    Cassy

It's a great system except for th fact that the Radeon doesn't work. I'm not sure if you have the "new" CB model with new bios or not, but as an initial CB owner, not having everything working correctly has just taken too much of its toll on me. Especially for the price I paid.

Well I bought mine before it was released. I've had no issues at all. Mainly because I don't load programs that tell me the card is not working when it really is. I have yet to try anything that has not run properly. Photoshop, fireworks, visual studio, games (mainly civ5 and racing sims), they all work flawlessly. I love my laptop. But keep scaring people with stories of graphics cards that do not work all because a program tell you so.

It is simple. If you just USE the laptop and could not care less about what text shows up in specialist programs then everything works perfectly, always has.

But go ahead and link to stories of brink not working (which happens on ALL of the current mobile amd cards) or one off stories of photoshop not working. Meanwhile mine and most other peoples CBs are working fine.

Lol, so your reply is to be condescending? Very mature. I don't rely on programs telling me things when I can easily see that there is no difference whether a program or game is on "Power saving" versus "High performance." I'm not "scaring" anyone, rather posting my experience, as this is infact an experience discussion. My experience differs from yours, and your only recourse is to cry about it. Do you own major stock in Sony? Unless you're on their board of directors, then my opinion on this issue should not cause you to cry so much. Get over yourself. Learn to read the topic and see that many people are having issues. Once again, you fail reading comprehension. Too bad this forum doesn't have a filter feature like many others do, as reading idiotic comments just wastes time.

Edit: Found the filter. Look at that, the idiotic comment is gone.

I uninstalled the AMD in add/remove programs, and then used driver sweeper to clean the rest. I haven't used ccleaner.

I'll try again and also use ccleaner this time. If that doesn't work, would Windows Restore Point get my laptop back to how it was? Or would that not work for this? I really don't want to have to do a clean install or anything.

if you want to make sure, use GPU-Z and see the sensors of AMD card, is it running? Coreclock should be up and down, if it is not running then it wouldn't show any number

That's bad... Is there something I could try to solve this?... You know, I think it is using the ATi card but I don't know why this does not show on settings... I give you an example, I use Dolphin Emulator to play super smash bros brawl... in the settings it says is using the Intel card... But I can play without a problem, even playing on 1080 resolution and with high detailed textures (the game looks better on my computer than on the console)... I don't think the Intel have enough power to let that happen...And another user (don't remember his username) have been posting benchmarks of games running very well on his CB...

nothing... we could only wait Sony release a fix for it... it is a bios problem... and we can't do anything cos of the lock sony put on... actually there's a simple solution for this like what HP had done for DV 6 and 7

I understand that you haven't been keeping up to date on this. Issues with OpenGL have been confirmed with this setup. HP botched the setup just the same as Sony did, but unlike Sony, they provided a fix for it: Official HP statement on Switchable Graphics and Open GL Fun... - HP Support Forum (unsurprisingly, it was a bios update).

I know you don't use programs that utilize OpenGL, but please understand that for people who do: this is a fatal error.

And also: please keep in mind, that we need to hold manufacturers to a higher standard. This issue may not affect you particularly, but there may be other issues in the future that will. A major manufacturer failing to fix an issue this big is quite frankly unacceptable and future consumers do need to be warned about it, if just to understand the character of the company they may be dealing with for the next few years.

    Best,
    Cassy

    vpccb17fx.jpg

Earlier post has all about graphics, showed by GPU-Z and procedures I did to make all working well... :p

PS: Running Super Street Fighter 4 AE , Angry Birds Rio, Virtua Tennis 4, battery runs out in 03:10 with internet browsing (battery care 80%) that`s enough for me

I had the exact same problem, i clicked CCC in the menu and nothing happened. I've been trying all kinds of drivers as well recently and i didn't do a great job of cleaning up so in the end i did a factory restore and now everything is working again - i'm not installing SP1 this time.

On a factory install with AMD hotfix the card is working fine, it's working in PS & games and i can run WoW in openGL mode - it's also one of the original laptops (CA not CB), not the newer ones.

I'm sure there's got to be a simple fix, why on earth aren't sony doing anything?

You're wrong... On factory install with even hotfix, amd don't work on openGL programs. Yours working cos, you don't have the intel, basically like the old laptop with only amd...

Hotfix make the amd on all the time, but, not works on opengl programs

Hey i bought my CB back in April this year and was wondering if since its release there has been any updates for the GPU drivers. A link would be much appreciated.

Also curious to know what kind of battery life people are getting on their CB's with the 15" 1080p panels when just using the laptop for internet browsing and casual video/music (dont care about gaming on battery).

    Thanks for any feedback.

@accel OpenGL programs? well I guess I'm not using it very much I can't talk about it...
I'm running Apps like Fireworks, PhotoImpact, AVS Video converter, Flash...and playing games (so far) like CoD Black Ops, Medal of honor, Fallout New vegas, Duke Nukem, F.E.A.R 3 without issues and great graphics quality...

I'm using CCC 11.7 and never ask me or show me some message, and the tests I made...well when the system need to use the AMD make the change automatically, sometimes I need to specified the program to use the AMD in the CCC and that's all....and I know when is running the Intel or the AMD

@Yazzinit Radeon doesn't work? well dude, the AMD WORK but has some issues with a few Apps...

I'm feel bad for some pals, but at least in my case is running very very well..

I bought mine in June, using now CCC 11.7 with a fresh install

About the brink issue, I read a lot about it and I thing the problem is with others graphics card too not only with the CA/CB AMD...

    @ nand@

Amd doesn't work on openGL prgrams, while on directX programs and all others, it works perfectly... That's the problem on these laptops.

About brink issue, that's because, amd is not working, if you see the error log, it said doesn't support OpenGL 3.1, when AMD use OpenGL atleast 3.5. It use intel , as intel only support OpenGL 3.0 ( latest )

WoW on OpenGL does work, but on intel, not amd, I experienced lags all over it, even not yet login, just in the login page.

WoW on DirectX works on AMD and i can play it perfectly...

    Hi VAIO CB owners,

I just noticed that there are gaps below the keys (keyborad)! Do you think this can create a problem? I mean dust can easily pass into these gaps?

    Thanks.

I don't know if dust gets into the components or if there is some kind of tray underneath (like there is on my Dell laptop). You can get a keyboard cover, i use one for keeping the keys clean when i'm gaming or when the laptop is off (i never bother closing the lid) but i don't really like the feel of typing on it :/

I use keyboard cover (silicone) and keep prevent from things like that. Guess in my videos about street fighter iv on youtube, you could see that cover on keyboard.

I`m satisfect cos the 15" its preety good and the laptop performance even in games or win7 is awesome. Battery care (80%) up to 3:10h on Battery Bar software, full discharge...

At moment, i`m using on my TV 40" in 1920x1080 via HDMI. Surfing or gaming is amazing, i`ll record another small video showing this experience
