OK, this is nothing specific to the Bios upgrade ( i have an VPCCB 17FG ) . I sometimes notice ( especially, after i load some games ) -

    - The mouse movement ( & the track pad movement too ) gets real slow, jerky for a few seconds & everything slows down ( programs take a long time to open ) . This happens occasionally, for 10-20 seconds .

    - Google Chrome or for that matter IE 9 both lag - because it skips letters, almost as if it is too slow to catch up to my typing, scroll also becomes jerky . This also happens occasionally .

I have checked the laptop for viruses . There r none .

Can anybody help explaining me the above, the possible causes & the solution ?

I believe you are experiencing alot of issues. Why dont you reinstall windows and begin with downloading Vaio C290X Sony Utilities driver s and then install your original hardware drivers on top. This will resolve the conflict with new bios if any.

Secondly even i used to feel the lag sometimes (mouse used to get stuck etc) but haven't had it after a fresh install.

    Hope it helps :)

I have already re installed Windows 3/4 times, but the lagging & the jerky movement comes back after sometimes .

    I am really perplexed:confused2: .

Could it be, because of certain games i am installing ? Like, right now, i reloaded Windows & have not installed much software & things look fine . A few of them r cracked versions, but they r working fine in my old Toshiba .

if that so... check your softwares... i don't feel any before or after..

try to use free programs... don't use cracked programs unless you know what you're doing... try to full scan all drives with antivirus in safe mode

Man, this was very helpful. I was very interested in the quality of the notebook screen Chunghwa Picture Tubes (Taiwan) CPT17A9 1366*768

Can you describe your general impression? How do you find viewing angles, brightness, colors etc. Maybe at least horizontal viewing angles are godd...

    Please, rep'!

    @MANOJa
Please stop panicing! Save all your data and delete all partitions upon next fresh install. If you need further instructions how, let me know.
If problems persist, use hardware diagnostics, first for ram, hdd, cpu etc.
If this does not disclose the problem bring it to technicians at Sony center.

    Good luck,
    Alex

    @Aleksandras

As, i said before, i did a re install yesterday & have put only original games/programs & the laptop looks to be behaving normally . So, could the abnormal behavior - jerky movement of mouse/track pad & slowing down of the laptop in general be because of some cracked games, i install ?

I used Hardware Diagnostics, for ram, hdd, cpu etc.. & everything is fine .

Also, if i do a clean install, i think i would loose the recovery partition . Please provide a link to the clean install & let me know , if i can somehow save the recovery partition, when i do a clean install .

Cracked programs won't cause "jerky" mouse movements. I've never experienced that in all of my years using computers. Sounds like a hardware problem to me. The recovery partition is overrated. If your HDD fails, the recover partition isn't going to help you, seeing as how the HDD won't be able to read and process the partition anyway. Much better to back up your Windows OS/programs/files to an external HDD and store it away. Any problems ,hook it back up. HDD fails, swap a new one in, bust out your external, back to business.

Yazzinit, i could have agreed that it is a hardware problem, if it was all along . As, i said, i am using the laptop with only legal programs loaded to it for about 20 hours now ( with no cracked one's loaded ) & the system is behaving perfectly OK .

What I think is one of those "cracked" programs had a malicious program or something that drew in the resources of your PC which was causing the lag.
So do not install more than 1 cracked program at once. Monitor it for a day and see if its causing any issues, then install the next one. ;)

I had the same problem, deactivate the bar that appears on the top of the screen, that solves my problem... I'm thinking of making a clean install and get rid of all the bloatware that came preinstalled once and for all...

Eh, you're right. I was a bit too strong in what I said. I was referring to my own experiences. I guess it's because I know what I'm doing in that area...lol. Maybe there was a trojan horse or something in the programs he was running, or like you said, he was trying to run some program that was just messed up in the way it was coded.

^Dude why do you need the recovery partition ????????? Don't you have recovery discs ?
And also correct me if I am wrong but AFAIK the recovery partition will work only if it is on the local drive and not on an external drive as you cannot make any changes to Vaio Care utility to make it use the recovery partition file from an external drive.

So don't bother with the recovery partition, just use recovery DVDs. Delete the recovery partition and free up disk space. That's what most of us do here.

OK, but i did not realize that if i am able to save the Recovery partition on an external Drive, i will not be able to use it, when i need to recover the system . I was worried on discs getting screwed up .

Also, can anybody provide me a link to the clean install procedure ?

Well make another set of discs then :p OR as accel mentioned, make an ISO file and save that on an external disk. Should your discs NOT work for some reason, burn the ISO into another disc.

The recovery partition is NOTHING SPECIAL. Stop worrying about it. It's just a glorified recovery disk that takes up your own hard drive space. I don't like Windows 7's recovery method, but you can burn your own recovery discs. Same thing. I use EASEUS recovery, works great. There's other programs as well. There's a topic on this site even. PCWorld has articles on recovery software. Google some and find one with good ratings.

Are these newer processors any more power efficient?

I think, i just found the reason of the slowdown of my laptop & the jerky mouse/track pad movements . VESMgr.exe is taking about 35-40 % of CPU usage & maybe causing all this . Can anybody confirm & let me know the solution ?

I will be probably a little bit off-topic. I have CB for like 2 months and it would be perfect if it had not several glitches.
I really miss some dedicated keys for music and for turning off the screen, but what is the main (and quite disappointing) problem is the overal build/ sturdiness, or however you call it...
When I grab my Vaio it squeaks (cheap plastics?), when I open the lid, I encounter the same sound, which is sad when I compare it to 4 years old HP which has none of these problems.
I didnt mention numpad flex, which I dont mind that much...
Is everybody experiencing this, or am I the only exception??

    hi guys,

I have already returned my vaio CB due to the camera problem.

I found a pre-configurated model with AMD Radeon™ HD 6470M (512 MB)-only. Is this graphics good enough to run/sipport 3D applications (opengl. applciations?) or you advice for the switchabel grahics?

avmaxfan: may you please let me know if these update are already available online? or to be introduced?

    many thanks.

Hello, I am new here and just got my CB and it's running awesomely!

I have a question regarding the USB 3.0 I tried using a Seagate GoFlex 500 GB which is 3.0 as the label states but when I connect it to the 3.0 slot on the CB it just lights up but doesn't get recognized.

It only works when connected to the other regular USB slots, but where's the point in that? As you may be able to tell, I'm a complete noob, does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thank you all

Not alot of people have 6470 here but I think its a decent graphic card. I dont think it would ve the Open GL issue as this config doesnt switch between HD3000 and AMD.

Manoj I have never experienced keyboard lags etc, although i ve experienced lags where on startup whole computer freeze alongwith mouse for 3-4 secs. Check ur HDD and RAM health etc that might help. Or take it to your dealer he should honor the warranty.
