I think TRIXX is not very reliable for looking that info. Last week I tried different drivers and it always showed 11.11 :S In dxdiag, 11.11 shows up as version 8.911.0.0.

I downloaded mine from AMD Catalyst 11.11 WHQL (8.911.0 October 25) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums In my case, the official ones never pass the GPU model check.

In the release notes, they wrote this:

The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:

Any notebook launched after this driver release
    Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks
Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
Panasonic® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)

So I guess thats why it never passes GPU model check.

I am downloading from the link you gave, hope this works!
    Thanks!!!

guys does c3 bios improves the sound performance of this unit? My vaio has weak audio. When I put the sound at level 50 I can barely hear a sound from it. Damn I thought this sony laptop has nice sound because its 15 inches, my old HP Pavilion dv5 with altec lansing can still kick when it comes to sounds.

Well... after a fresh install, I still don't have switchable GPUs :/ Do you guys install _everything_ on Sony's website after a fresh Windows install? I just left unninstalled the AMD Registry patch since it doesn't specify what does. Could this be the problem?

EDIT: Also, I can't get the LAN driver to install ok. I tried the Atheros drivers from C1 and C3 series, and also the ones directly from Atheros, without luck :/

I'm playing Mafia 2 and MW3 these days. Temp remains around 65-70, but not more than that. I put the fan on high performance mode.
Fan noise is noticeable on high performance mode, whereas on silent or balanced it is fine.

wow youre temp is higher than mine. I play witcher 2 with overclock settings CPU ID record never gave me 88-90 temp. Both CPu and GPU is ranging from 70-80. I set the fan on high performance. My Bios is the first hacked bios, my catalyst 11.10 and my driver is 8.901.

by the way my laptop is 1 inch above from surface i'm using notebook cooler to elevate but i never turn it on.

Have somebody noticed a clicking sound coming from the speakers after the last sound driver update with the CB (first model), this is noticeable with the clicking sound effect when you open a folder, I know this sound is a clicking effect but with that sound sometimes I can notice a clicking sound that is not normal and I don't know if this issue was caused by the driver update...

No heating issues when using on lap.
Battery around 5 hours when on low power gpu (need manual switching through bios update). But some people said they get around 3.5 hours. This just depends on usage.

Hi all, I'm newbie here from Thailand.

Just got my CB37 and have problem with wireless-n setting.
It shown radio type is 802.11n but stuck at 54kbps.

After searching, I found that I have to enable 802.11n, which should be in advance tab of wireless adapter property. But it's not there.

My wireless adapter is Arthos AR9485WB-EG with 9.2.0.427 driver version.

Any suggestion please ? Thanks in advance.

Guyz it seems that Bios update has been launched out worldwide, because it appears on Vaio update. Unfortunately I can't upgrade. I wish I can downgrade to old one so that I can Install the new one. I dont have any regrets on installing the mod but I just hope that there's an option to install the new one..

    Hello,

I bought a VPCCB3C5E, I thought to put a Mac OSX on it, and why I need the AHCI mode ...
For information, I called Sony Customer Service and they confirmed that it was not possible with this series ...
I can not change the way the hard drive on the Sony VAIO BIOS is very poor in terms of the option.
That's why I thought to use a modified BIOS.

I'm really disappointed, anyone have a solution?

    Thanks to you

ok, i got the CB3 version of bios from alex, (the one with the audio enhancement), i installed it. sadly i encountered some click sounds randomly and i dont like it, and the vaio update keeps on informing me to install the official bios.
since the official bios will not work anymore. i asked accel to extract the official bios and send it to me. that's how i got the official bios for CB1.

issues are gone.. no more notification from vaio update..

everything is ok now on my CB1 :)

accel has the extracted official bios :D

    thanks accel!!!

is there a way to do a fresh install without losing the recovery partition? If the answer is positive, could I use that partition after doing fresh install to recover useful drivers and software like Office 2010 starter, ATI drivers, etc?

Yes, i noticed on my CB that the recovery partition has no drive letter.

and when you do a fresh install, you can recover/access your drivers and bundled software by installing the VAIO Care from sony :D

    i hope that helps.

AHCI is already enabled. You don't need to make any changes to the BIOS settings. Just go ahead & install OSX using TonyMac's guide.Lion works perfectly on this laptop.

Firstly hackintoshing is not a joke. So if you're serious enough head over here: tonymacx86 Forum • View topic - Sony VAIO VPCCB15FG (CB15) series Hackintosh progress

I can't instal the newest bios update for my Vaio CB190X. I installed CB290X's r1101v2 when it wasn't available for my Vaio and now the bios installer won't allow me to instal the proper bios for my notebook. Any ideas how to instal it or avoid bios check?

It is better to use Tonymac's method. The error relates to your install DVD & not the system.
