Hello guys. My laptop is vpccb390x. I've got a problem with my webcam. My laptop is pretty new, got it two weeks ago. The cam used to work fine. And today when I had to talk on skype it says that I don't have a cam and blah blah blah. Tried to start the cam via ArcSoft Companion, didn't work. Reinstalled the ArcSoft software didn't help. There is no Image Device in my device manager. But I got some Unknown Device in USB Controller section. Is there a clear driver file or something for the camera? I will appreciate your help a lot! Thank you

Doest it affects you that you can't increase the voltage of the GPU? For me its not, cuz if there's an impact on it. I should have encounter an artifacts or crashing while playing games. You can try to ask other thread with same GPU if they also encounter this kind of issue.

it's annoying for me because i can't overclock my gpu to the max lv. if with default gpu voltage i can just only overclock from 485/700 to 700/900. if i can increase my gpu vltage at least until 965 then i can oc my gpu until 750/1125. if i give the simple conclussion:

485/700 -> 700/900= overall perfomance would be increase 25% - 33.33% from the default clock
485/700 -> 750/1125= overall performanc would be increase 40% - 50% from the default clock

got what i means? that's why i needed it so badly.

    @accel

it happened just after i reformat my vaio. i dunno what's happened actually with my vaio. poor me :(

nope it's legal as it is need to be... the original name plate and the cracked nameplated are only existed for the serial number... if your serial is the original one ( OEM ), you would have the original windows 7...

    perfectly legal

    SSD won't help on framerates

Well, SSD does empower your machine with the ability to maintain extremely high throughput as queue depth increases. As a result, you can run into performance-degrading situations when multiple apps are running concurrently, reflected as choppiness when you're playing a game. It's not a constant phenomenon; rather, you see periodic hiccups that interrupt the suspension of disbelief made possible by really great games. You don't see it with an SSD installed. The best (and perhaps most typical) example of this is when an anti-virus app launches a full scan in the background.

    Hello all,

I just got this computer and I am pleased so far! There was a bunch of bloatware I had to uninstall, but there was actually a good amount of software that I liked that came with the computer such as the intel wireless display application.

Is there any guide for things to know about this computer for new buyers? This thread is like 200 pages long and I can only look through so much.

you could use the windows 7 dvd to reinstalled and use the lisence key... no need to use the recovery

later install the driver and sony softwares that you want.. no need to install all that bloatwares

I recently updated the BIOS to R0242V2. Then VAIO update showed an audio driver update to 6.0.1.6487. After installing this driver, there seems to be a problem. When I plug in earphones and take them out only after I shut down the computer, then when I start the computer again, it doesnt play anything on the laptop speaker. I have to plug in the earphones and then take them out to make it play sounds on speaker.

What might be the problem ?

    Hi there from Holland :D,

I'm looking into buying the 1920x1080 version of this laptop but I'm struggling.
A couple of reviews mention poor battery life with the C series (between 2-3 hours) and overall aren't that positive about the notebook.

I do believe some reviews have been written before the price-drop ($1000 to $680) and some reviewers may have been talking about the VPC-CB2 series instead of the newer VPC-CB3.

What are your positive and negative experiences with this laptop? Would you advise me to buy it?
I really like the idea that I would get 1080p resolution for a low price, that would give me tons of space to work with :).

    Thanks!

hey guys, could somebody help me with the name of drivers and software that I should install after doing a clean install in my cb? In the sony support page are a lot of download links and I'm clueless, I don't want to do a clean install to end up installing the crapware I'm trying to get rid of, and I don't want to pass an important driver or application... thanks in advance...

These are the drivers that you have to install.

SATA Driver, Chipset Driver, Graphics Driver, Switchable Graphics Driver, Graphics Driver Registry, Audio Driver, HDMI Audio Driver, ME Driver, Ethernet Driver, SD Card Driver, SD Card CPRM Driver, Memory Stick Driver, Intel Wireless LAN Driver, Atheros Wireless LAN Driver, Touchpad Driver, SFEP Driver, USB 3.0 Driver, Bluetooth Driver

Along with the drivers, you need to install Sony Shared Library and VAIO Control Center. I'm not exactly sure about these two though.

Did anyone install the new Catalyst 12.1 ?
Update notification appeared in the CCC (from 11.10 to 11.12) but it never installed on the system. So I updated it through DriverMax software and it installed 12.1 instead. But on the AMD website, they have given the download link for 11.12 only. Am I doing someting wrong here ?

12.1-preview contains all the bug fixes and enhancements from 11.11c, whereas 11.12 does not. if 12.1 works fine for you, just stick with it.

Okay. One more thing, I just uninstalled the drivers and downloaded complete 12.1 package from the AMD website. When I installed it, all the packages installed fine but AMD APP SDK RUNTIME fails to install. This happened with the previous versions of Catalyst too (11.11 and 11.10). Though I haven't had any problems due to this, but still, is it something important ?

anyone has an idea why the custom VPC-CB3 can no longer be ordered from the sony website? (europe)

could it be because the vpc-cb4 is coming? VAIO (CB4) anyone knows when this will be released in the us/europe?

I am willing to COMPENSATE any individual that can provide me with .ISOs for the CB recovery media discs. These are the 4 DVD discs created from the VAIO CARE to help restore your system.

When I bought my VPCCB390X CTO, I created 4 recovery media discs via the VAIO Care. Everything appeared to have burn successfully.

However, recently I had to restore my system, and the system cannot seem to restore on the 3rd discs. On the 3rd disc, it would stop at 22% with an error stating "An error occurred while executing an application" with "error 305".

According to sony's errors, when using the recovery discs, error 305 pertains to the recovery disc failure but I saw no indication of the error when it was burned.

I've tried restoring multiple times via the discs and the same error occurs on the 3rd disc.

then I tried using the system recovery partition, but the same error message occurs, but with error 320. This indicates either the HDD or RAM is failing but I ran tests to check the HDD and RAM, and both passed.

Now I am stuck because I do want to send it in for warranty repairs because it takes too long.

I'm wondering if anyone will be willing to create a copy of their recovery discs. I am willing to COMPENSATE for your time.

PS. I can always install a clean copy of Windows 7 and install the drivers individually, but its such a hassle.

    THANK YOU!

There should be a method to "manually" switch your graphics from Intel to AMD and back. Under the "Power" tab, there is an option to change how to switch graphics. For some reason it is missing in yours.

Use this software: mhotspot-Turn your laptop into a wifi hotspot
After you create ad-hoc from this software, go to network settings and enable internet sharing from your ethernet network and select the ad-hoc network from the list.

hello! I had the same problems back in December except that my recovery media failed at the first disc. I was really freaking out because the computer had already gone formatting so I was stuck with both useless computer and discs.

What I had to do was download a copy of windows 7 OEM in ISO format from torrents and then burn the ISO file to a dvd so I could boot the laptop from it.
I suggest you do the same, it's the quickest way I'm afraid. Of course I had to download all drivers again from sony, but the advantage is you don't get all the crappy media you get from the box.

don't forget to activate windows with the key that's on the back of you laptop once you get it working.
