    Hi,

    Just bought a VPCCB35FN.

Wondering if there are any modded AMD drivers, as the regular ones don't install correctly/ work after installation.

you need AMD mobility drivers. for example, the one here is the mobility 11.9 drivers for Windows 7 x64. note the mobility, dd (device drivers), and ccc (Catalyst Control Center) in the name.

EDIT: apart from the mobility version, you might also need the OpenCL drivers. the difference is an extra "_ocl" at the end of the filename, e.g., "...dd_ccc_ocl.exe". see this post at Guru3D. the 11.9 OCL driver for Windows 7 x64 is here. change "11-9" to your desired version number to download that version, e.e. 11-9 => 11-12 gives you 11.12 drivers.

you have to test that on your own; the stability greatly depends on one's system and the demand one puts on the GPU and varies from application to application.

for the VAIO SA (which i have) SONY has provided three GPU drivers up to now (the original one, the first update, and the second update), and i'm using the first update, because the second update was very unstable for Battlefield 3 and i had to revert back to the first update. my current drivers are rock-solid and very stable during game play, so i don't want to update yet.

generally speaking though, newer drivers provide bug fixes and optimizations, so if you want to have the latest and greatest, then update.

I found a website where you can download the latest AMD drivers for notebooks with switchable graphics (like the C series) here: leshcat blog IT Tips & Tricks

This way you don't have to rely on Sony to release new switchable GPU drivers for you Vaio notebook. (Which are still at AMD 11.4 instead of 11.12 I believe).

If you didn't know this: the official AMD mobility drivers won't work; the CCC will install but the drivers won't be used since AMD relies on the notebook manufacturer to combine the Intel HD graphics with their AMD gpu. If you want you can read more about this here.

the AMD mobility drivers install just fine (make sure the file name ends with "...dd_ccc_ocl.exe"), but you have to install them on top of SONY drivers to retain the switchable graphics functionality. if you uninstall SONY drivers first and then install the newest AMD drivers, then you'll lose graphics switching. if you want newer Intel GPU drivers, you're out of luck, unless you use modified drivers like leschat's. the leschat drivers are being talked about in this forum right now. even leschat is participating in the thread.

    Hi, I bought CB37 for 2 months.

I found that if I use it extensively (no gaming but many things simultaneously, like browsing, downloading & editing photo), sometimes the notebook goes very very slow to respond. I can't click anything, can't open task manager to see or end some process. Even mouse pointer is lagging, which I never met in my very old notebook. However I've never met BSOD with it by far.

I've tried to add a gadget to watch CPU status, but when problem occurs, gadget also stop responding. I'm not sure this is some kind of throttling or not, I've just experienced this 3 times with CB37. I have to wait for it to respond or just reboot with hard button. :(

Any suggestion please ? Thanks in advance.

PS. Sorry for my poor english.

Tried stock AMD Mobility driver installs, both ways. By first uninstalling Vaio drivers and then by installing over them.

No luck. They install, but CCC is disfunctional.

Tried a modded driver too. Same scene.

If you keep it plugged in most of the time, then enable battery care feature from VAIO Control Center.

Is there anyway to drive 2 external displays with the VPCCB? (only 1 hdmi output)

EDIT: I guess is it possible to drive both the HDMI and VGA adapters at the same time?

does anybody have the switchable graphics working with Steam? I swear when I first installed the BIOS update, it was working. I've tried everything recently to get the Radeon graphics enabled on Just Cause 2 in Steam and nothing works.

Allo Gents. I have a few questions regarding the HD 6470M graphics card. I'm from Canada, so I bought a pre-configured model from Future Shop, the VPCCB27FDD, with the following specs:

    Native Screen Resolution: 1366 x 768
    Processor: Intel Core i5-2410M - 2.3 GHz
    Hard Drive Capacity: 640 GB
    RAM: 6 GB
Optical Drive: Blu-ray Disc ROM Drive with 8x DVD SuperMulti
    Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6470M
Dedicated Video Memory Size: 512 MB

I've had some issues with my graphics card. I've actually done a system restore because the drivers kept crapping out. I notice that in the catalyst control centre that many options are greyed out, such as the video sharpness and such. MY WEI is also a bit wonky, with a 3.1 for Aero support, yet in the 6.3-6.9 range for gaming graphics. I've tried flashing the new bios, and have updated the graphics card with Vaio's updates, but I feel like something's still gimped on this somewhere. I'm not planning on doing a lot of gaming, just The Sims 3 when I'm away from my desktop. I tend to do a lot of work in Photoshop, which is why I'm concerned about my graphics card.

I'm currently running my Vaio on Performance mode on AC, Max Battery on Battery. I'll hardly be using it unplugged.

I'm also curious about the windows start screens, and why they're a purplish colour, rather than the "normal" windows blue colour? Before I did my system restore, I had the normal Windows colour, and my Graphics card was registering 5.3 for Aero, but since I did the restore, it's been wonky.

Any suggestions as to how I can fix these perceived inconveniences?

Can anybody with a VPCCB tell me whether in device manager you see the Intel Graphics adapter along with AMD when you are in High Perfomance Graphics mode? I have both... :(

When in power saving, I see only Intel, but in High Perfomance I see both and I think that is the problem. I could have sworn before I only saw AMD when in High Performance mode. I wonder what happened...

download the 11.9 drivers from here. uninstall the previous ones, reboot, use Driver Sweeper to completely remove all the remaining junk left over, reboot, install the 11.9 drivers.

i don't know if CB has switchable graphics or not. if it doesn't, then follow what i said above. if it does, install a SONY graphics driver first, then install 11.9 on top of it.

    1. Yes, it is.
    2. What I did is:
First, get a USB 2.5" drive enclosure, and use the software provided by the SSD to make a copy of your HDD. You'd have to make enough room, if the HDD has more data you won't be able to copy.

Remove the main screws from the bottom, including three silver ones underneath the battery. Remember which screws go where since two of them near the hinges (second screws each corner) are slightly bigger. The bottom cover pops right off. The fan is held down by one or two screws, don't remember exactly.

I just finished opening the back of the laptop. Not too difficult. However, I am unable to clean the heatsink, it seems to be embedded with the heatpipes from the CPU and GPU, and ever taking out the screws holding the fan, I can't reach it. The good news, it that it doesn't seem to be dirty.

BTW, has anyone changed the GPU on this laptop?

Well, I just didn't want to remove the heat sink from the CPU and GPU, I wasn't sure I'd be able to put them back, and I hadn't thermal paste at hand. I just wanted to remove the dust and dirt from the outer heatsink.

    Thank you.

I updated Intel graphics to version 8.15.10.2696 by downloading new drivers from Intel website. But now I am unable to switch to AMD graphics through CCC. Can anyone give me a link to the old driver ? I dont remember the old version.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Unable to rollback to previous driver. What should I do now ?
