Where can I find boot time rearranger?
-
-
I have ordered that version too - from CD-Data (as it was 2000 kronor or $250 cheaper there). I have no information on IT-shoppen but I checked for CD-Data on allabolag.se and it didn't look impressive - but OK. They also mention theirs are due on March 25th.
-
I have just ordered the same version this week - and just wonder, where did you get yours from ? And congratulations (said with a little bit of envy ;-))
-
Bit the bullet... Got the premade silver model with the i5-520M, 128gb SSD. 4 gb RAM for $1615 - this a good deal?
-
Damn, this is faster than all other posted results. This is the 512GB version right?
So the larger drive is faster! -
since many are getting their z's, did anyone find a way to secure erase these ssd's as to get these awesome speeds back again.
please try guys
-
This is probably expected, given the fact that 512GB is a quad RAID0 setup. Is that right? Does that mean the 192GB triple RAID0 setup is going to be faster than the 256GB dual RAID0 setup?
-
Its a good thing I waited, think Im going all the way to 512gb....DAMN
-
We can't tell untill we see the benchmarks. Hope the 384 is equal or just a bit faster, so I can save a few hundred dollars. 1000 dollar extra for the 512gb is alot.
-
hey so does anyone know which thread it was that had the japanese vaio z with hdd and the guy put a intel ssd drive into it and weighed it? because im wondering if i can take out optical drive and put in intel x-25m to go with my 128gb. thx
-
could you post the results of a 4k blocks /64 threads run please ?
Thanks in advance. -
I hear ya.
I would really love a nice list of steps to help us maintain our beautiful machines from some of the wise minds on these forums. I want to get the most of my machine and make it last!
Thanks guys! -
Yup, 512GB.. it's fast!!
-
Do you think Sony will eventually sell the drives separately. Then a 256GB (128x2) could one day get to those speeds by buying another set of 128GB drives?
-
Indeed, my order for the signature series has been pushed to the 31st of this month..
-
Most likely availability of specific CTO models depends on components availability, i.e. some CTO configuration can be built sooner than other. Also, when someone cancels CTO order (to order different configuration), if there's anyone waiting for that config it will be shipped earlier as it's already being built.

I think it's somewhere near the start of this thread, here's Dimension6's website:
http://www.stewart.gs/vaioz.html
I hope so, if the drives can be cleaned.
-
My dumb Z was also scheduled for weekly defrags. I set it to off.
Hmmm, ran into my first problem. For whatever reason, a couple times now my computer will totally freeze. Just completely. Mouse is in one place, control alt delete doesnt work. Esc doesnt work. Nothing is moving. End up having to hold down the power button for 20 seconds.
However, after some research it could be my corrupted SD card or the fact that I needed to install 38 updates. After taking out my SD card and updating the computer, I havnt had the problem...yet. -
Dimension6 has the HDD version and not the SSD version. I doubt you can make a easy mod to combine the Sony SSD('s) with a normal SSD.

TofuTurkey Married a Champagne Mango
Oh yeah, I re-read stauffer4918's question, I thought he wanted to replace the HDD. Then he talked about optical drive and I was
I think no one has tried to replace the optical drive with a HDD/SSD.
-
Registry entry to turn on/off. Google is your friend.
-
Btw do all the current Vaio Z owners have the battery drain issue? I wonder why Sony doesn't fix it.
-
I saw many pages in the original thread with concerns about the legibility of text in 1080 on a 13" screen. Some people asked for some examples, none were posted from what I saw (massive thread though). So here's something I just happened across: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPKZ2S_Jm-g&feature=related Skip to about 2:30.
Show's a comparison of the 1600x900 vs 1080 screen on the Sony Z! OS is in Japanese, but my opinion is that text appears very legible on the 1080. -
I really hope this is the case... I guess I have a weird configuration. I ordered on March 1st, with a scheduled ship date of March 16th and it still hasn't updated yet
Order Status: Shipping update
Estimated Ship Date: 03/16/2010
I called them up and opened a ticket and they said that my order was delayed until the end of the month, though the status on Sonystyle still says shipping on 3/16 -
Woohoo! Finally!
Order Status:
Your VAIO is being built
Estimated Ship Date:
03/23/2010

I can confirm that the GPS works without having to sign up with Verizon.
Minor annoyance: It keeps turning itself off now and then. Haven't had time to work on that one.
(Note: Only tested in the San Francisco Bay Area) -
yeah i was just wondering if it was possible. i didnt know if sonys raid would work adding another ssd. guess i will just sell my intel x-25
-
What mapping software do they use on Sonys?
-
My mom called me to tell me it arrived at home!
i7, 192 SSD, 6 GB Ram, Premium Carbon, WWAN, Blu-Ray
I guess I just got it early because I had a configuration they have readily available in stock? -
Does anyone know how to properly wrap up this AC adapter..? Do I have to disconnect the power cord everytime? lol .... my last laptop came with instructions .... I'm so stupid I can't really figure out how the velcro works!
-
So, what did you do to test this? I want to test mine as well
-
Arith, regarding the boot time rearranger you mentioned. The closest I could find in searching around was maybe the program prefetch. Is this what you were referring to or something else?
-
I'm not aware of any; I used MapPoint 2009.
-
MapPoint or Streets and Trips. You may be able to find trial versions available for download...don't know.
-
Thanks.

Lets see some photos of the other lid choices. In, USA, we don't have Silver Metal as an option, so I'm curious to see how this lid looks. I'm also curious of the Silver Mosaic if anyone wants to post theirs. In photos, it looks unappealing, but someone said, in person, it's to die for. I didn't know whether to take that comment literally. -
Do any of them talk?
-
Interesting development
My first order was for a VPCZ11CGX/X which is the carbon fiber 256GB pre built unit. I ordered that one when I found out I could get the 7% educational discount.
The very next day, after finding out that by calling in and asking for it, I could get the 15% discount, I called in, canceled that order and proceeded to order the silver cto unit that I have had for a few days now.
Today I get an email. It says that my VPCZ11CGX/X has been shipped! (yes the one that I thought was canceled
)
Now what do I do? -
Hi, Folks!
Being still on the ragged edge, I'll say little, lest I manage to stick my foot in my mouth again. However, I will say factually that I'm finally a real Z owner! After receiving a quite discouraging email from Sony HK (you can't do web orders unless you're from HK, plus they can only hold machines at the store for 3 days, even via phone orders), I finally called up my local SonyStyle and verified that they had two VPCZ11CGX/X's in stock - I now own one of them! Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with some useful results. So far, this is looking really good!
Cheers!

Something else. Windows analyzes which files you use during boot-up, and will rearrange the disk so these files come before all other files on the disk. Why? HDDs read from the outside in on the disk -- just like an old record.
The outside moves faster past the heads, thus the start of the disk is faster than the middle or end.
By doing this, Windows reduces boot time (at the expense of slightly slower run-time) for HDDs. For SDDs, it only serves to wear the drive extra.
Open regedit, and go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
Double-click "Enable" and change "Y' to "N". -
Hi, Arth1!,
I wish I could give the actual stats, but when I've intentionally rebooted 10 times after new installs, this turns on automatically (perhaps well before, but that's when I've checked). Windows 7 is clearly waiting long enough to see whether the boot pattern will be representative of subsequent boots before it turns this flag on, at which point utilities like PerfectDisk can do their defragmentation properly.
FYI!

I see a few issues with this:
- The optical drive has a uSATA plug, as far as I'm aware. You would either need to locate the Lenovo uSATA-SATA adapter or purchase the x18-m.
- You'd have to fill the physical media slot area with something.
- The HDD model has some internal pieces that seem to be exist only to improve the structural integrity. Without these pieces, you might start seeing flex.
Sony Japan includes "Pro Atlas SV5", which I think is owned by Yahoo.
I usually just wrap the AC cord around the adapter and then finish it off with the velcro. -
Don't do anything for now - it's been shipped. You might like the black prem. carb. You always have 30 days to make the return on one of them. You have very good cause - did you receive a canceled order receipt on the first order? Anyway, your first hunch on the black may be the winner. How do you like the Silver?
This model seems to be very popular, then again, we really have only 3 preconfig. choices. I called SonyStyle South Coast Plaza and they have the same VPCZ11CGX/X in stock. -
I have one of these:
ThinkPad Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III
I don't recall what the SATA adapter looks like, but I'll check sometime this weekend. -
Hi, Folks,
In no way am I recommending that folks enable defragmentation on an SSD drive. My point was just to emphasize that Windows 7 will attempt to automatically flag in the registry once this could begin to make sense for traditional HDDs.
Best Regards!

I would suggest installing these drivers from HP (noticed them through Engadget) if you want to enable proper multitouch on the Z.
-
Good point. It HAS been shipped. So I will wait for it to arrive so I can compare it to the silver. As far as your question about color preference. I had real reservations about the silver prior to receiving it (but in a cto I didn't want to spend $50 just for color
)
From the moment I received it though, I have been quite happy with the silver. I think it looks really good. I'll let you know when I have a premium carbon fiber next to it whether it still looks good to me.
One reason I very likely wouldn't keep the new one is that it was ordered under the 7% educational discount whereas mine was 15% off.
-
Has anyone Experienced any form of BATTERY DRAIN yet????
-
Someone said earlier it's the same as the outgoing Z - 8% loss every 12 hours.
-
Thanks for the file. It works great with multi-touch.
-
Does any1 know how bright (in nits) the 1600x900 screen is? And/or the 1080p too? Also, has anyone tried using it outdoors in the sunlight yet? How readable is the screen compared to other laptops?
P.S. I've already searched this forum and couldn't find the answer. Thx!
