hmmm.... what bloatware? I can't get a Blu-ray disc to playDVD looks pretty on the screen though.
I did uninstall that Kapersky thing because I use something else.
Everything else like ArtRage and PlayMemories might come in handy.

Can anybody confirm is his DUO when looking from the front view is slightly bent? is that a normal issue after few months, please?
-
I bought a floor model, so it's been handled quiet a bit. There is no warping visible.
-
Thanks for your feeback, seems i may have load huge pressure to have my DUO warped in this way...i seen no explanations
Did you observe the screen bezel area?, where is the windows button and trackpad, mine is slighlty curved there about 1mm but when looking at the back both are perfectly aligned. But i didn t recall having seen it from the start so my model may alreafy have little warp before i realized. -
Wow, so easy?
Thanks, I'll try it -
Mine is slightly bent, too (no extensive use, though). I bent it back when it was warm by putting it on my knee and pushing the right upper corner and the left down corner a bit. Now it is straight again.
-
So how long is this "create recovery drive" meant to take.
mine in been going on for close to 2 hrs and the progress bar has not moved since it reached the halfway point.
BTW I am using a 32GB HP USB Stick -
HP flash drives are dirt slow, might take a while
-
The side corners of my screen appear to bend up very slightly although I think mine has always been like that.
A friend was showing me their Dell XPS 12 which I was keen to see as I've been tempted to try one but as you'd expect from the specifications it's really a different type of machine to the Vaio Duo 11 as it feels more like a laptop with a touchscreen rather than a more hybrid device like the Vaio Duo 11. The Vaio is no lightweight as a tablet but it's noticeably thinner and lighter than the Dell plus the mechanism for changing from tablet to keyboard is much smoother. The Dell obviously has plenty of advantages of its own but as a hybrid tablet device I prefer the Duo 11.

Is it a USB 2.0 stick?
I used a SanDisk Extreme (110MB/sec write) usb 3.0 stick, and it was blazing fast. Created around 9-10gb in very short amount of time.
Maybe you have a bad stick? -
The VAIOREG20 coupon code (20% off) for accessories still works at the sonystyle website (I ordered a slim carry case and an extra AC adapter the other day. Actually they were free since I have plenty of points there.)
The Vaio Duo price everywhere/online fell $150 to $1450 today (for the i7 + 8GB + 256GB model). So I went to Fry's and showed them the Datavision $1448 price and they cheerfully matched it and refunded the difference. Everyone here that bought a Duo recently should quickly contact the store too for a price adjustment! -
I noticed a drop in prices too here in NZ at Noel Leeming while the prices remain the same at Sony's store.
I don't know why but is this a sign that something new is coming? -
there's always something new... haswell refresh probably in a couple months
-
Yeah Haswell is coming on June 4 but other than that I don't think that there will gonna be a new duo any soon probably next year....
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2 -
Surely you don't think Sony is going to have a new Duo 11 ready for retail by June 4? Normally it takes another couple of months, right? (I am hoping the answer is no!).
-
has anyone experienced this issue?? My stylus just goes unresponding after a couple minutes of use, i have to physically tap the screen once before the stylus will get picked up by the screen again.
I have no issues at all with finger inputs -
Re: 3 Independent/Extended Screens on the Vaio Duo
lol I just had to do it.... I hooked up a HDMI monitor, a VGA monitor and also am using the built-in Duo screen. I now have three 1920x1080 screens happening!!
My normal setup will just be one screen or sometimes with the HDMI monitor. The text on the VGA/RGB screen/monitor is not as sharp unless we use its HDMI input which becomes super sharp. But otherwise, all 3 screens/outputs are working independently and nicely (couldn't do 3 screens with my old Z13).
-
I have had this issue. I have found replacing stylus battery solves it. I must replace stylus battery often.
-
This three figure config is how I run everyday. It works well, although a bit of a pain to disconnect 4 plugs everytime I go to the field. I tried to use a USB 3.0 docking station using DisplayLink, but Vaio native software (which apparently you must run if you want function key functionality) and USB 3.0 Display Link are incompatible. Sony tech support was useless. Sad.

t
I had a definite warping of the entire unit, to the point when I laid it flat, and opened the screen to type on keyboard, the left side front corner was sitting off of the desk top. Each key I punched on the left side resulted in a thunk. I think my mistake was resting my unit with screen open propped up by the two rear corners on the base of the monitors I was using, so it sagged a bit in the middle. Have now placed it on a flat surface all of the time, and it has "reshaped" to normal position. All is well.No more thumping. -
ACCOMPLISED!!!
Windows 8 and Linux permanent Dual boot, even after starting Windows!!!
Sony VAIO with Insyde H2O EFI bios Windows 8 / Linux GRUB2 Dual boot - Blog - Naguissa.com - Recursos y discusiones sobre desarrollo web -
yes that happens to me all the time using artrage and sketchbook pro. Really irritating!
-
I will try replacing the battery as suggested above (probably tomorrow) and i will let you guys know how it goes... even if it fixes the problem, it's quite disappointing that its battery life would only last a couple weeks.
I also have another question, has anyone tried to use a UHS SD card and achieve full speed?? I'm wondering if the Card reader is connected to the usb 3.0 or 2.0 bus -
Regarding a Sony UHS-I Class 10 SDHC 32GB card that I just tried, it looks like USB 3 speed but it probably is a PCI Express type. After we pop the card into the Duo, a new category will appear in Device Manager and it says "Memory technology devices". In it is a "Realtek PCIE CardReader" item.
Speed:
Copying lots of Sony a99 RAW+JPG files.... always around 37 to 39+ MB/sec on the graph/meter.
CrystalDiskMark 1000MB Seq = 42.54 MB/s Read, 37.99 MB/s Write.
These are great numbers for a memory card formatted in the camera (FAT32 not NTFS). -
thanks for the info! Looks like i can get a 64gb or 128gb card to supplement the SSD... -
Yeah, that can work for short term or local/temp use. For long term I think it's better to move it to a USB HDD/SSD, NAS drive, cloud/sky drive or something like that. (The memory cards are not always reliable.)

Sorry if I'm being an idiot and missing the obvious on the thread but I'm confused how to remove the recovery partitions and other crap on the Duo. I've got the i5 with 128gb ssd. I'll soon need to try upgrade to at least a 256gb ssd but for the moment recovering space lost to Sony's/Microsofts partitions will have to do. I've just created restore DVD's (all 5 eek). Can someone point me in the right direction or provide instructions. Thanks.
Also does anyone know where to get there hands on the extended sheet battery. I'm in Ireland and all the Sony centres have gone into liquidation and the others honestly don't seem to want to deal with Sony, its very odd behaviour. I'm not sure if I can order from elsewhere in Europe due to shipping regulations on lithium ion batteries (seems if its plugged into a laptop on a plane its safe but loose in a bag its considered dangerous, which is BS). I have a Vaio TZ battery in England I can't get home to Ireland and 6 Vaio batteries for my other lappys (3x Vaio TT & 3x Vaio P) in the USA since october last I can't move. -
Looks like a refresh is just around the corner according to this article:
Sony launches a trio of VAIO Fit laptops in Japan
No info on what the refresh will include for the Duo yet. First off the rank are the Fit and the Fit E. -
Hey ho,
Had a quick look around online and saw no photo's of the updated Slider.
So, courtesy of a large Big Retailer in the UK, heres the NEW Sony Slider Duo 13" with Trilumios Display.
No hard specs apart from two backwards facing USB 3.0 ports, a power connector which looks like the same style, a Full HDMI port and a MS/SD combo reader and a Trillumious display, (which is essentially red, blue and green backlights), it's thinner and lighter (no word on how thin or light), Redesigned sliding function, Backlight keyboard (finally) AND instead of that dammed nub it finally has a trackpad, ClearAudio+ speakers, 10 hour battery life and front and rear facing cameras, expect the usual Intel I series processor and several flavours of Ram and SSD combo's, and a digitizer (make unknown)
CHC Slider - Imgur There's your link to the pictures from internal documentation, enjoy and expect it out very soon, Enjoy. -
Hey CoolHotCold
13" display? I hope not - that defeats the purpose of it being portable. Also, what would the extra size do to the battery life?
Nice find. Where did you get the photos from?
So what happens to the Duo 11? End of life? -
Lol what's going on duo 11 dead? I still don't believe it...
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2 -
If what's posted is true, then yes. I personally don't think it's true, not a 13 incher.
-
just an extra model I hope
-
It's a hoax I have just checked on Sony Japan there is nothing like 13 inch and duo 11 is still there with model no. SVD11239CJB and I checked the specs and they are 100% same as the current duo....
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2 -
They haven't officially announced any refresh of the Duo yet, so you wouldn't be able to see anything new on JP's website. Fingers crossed they introduce Haswell!
-
If it's a hoax, it's a well done hoax. The white-on-silver looks weird - makes me think of an iPad married to something else. The keyboard being all silver almost looks like the Samsung one on the Ultra 7 whch everyone is complaining about. I don't see ethernet or VGA, both of which would be a killer no-go for me - moreseo the ethernet. If it is real, we'll see info on whatever this is in the next few months. COnsidering products need lead time to market, if this is real, it makes sense to be ready.
Time will tell ... -
I love the optical nub.Wish every laptop people did would have it. The current Duo keyboard is backlit, so not sure why you say it's not. In Japan there's an option to not have it backlit, but in the rest of the world as far as I know, they all ship with backlighting.
-
13' duo is what a sony person once mentioned.
-
I think so many people will be disappointed without vga and ethernet...
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2 -
Yeah, the VGA port indeed is a must. I use it around a dozen times a month with office/factory overhead projectors (not WiDi yet).
The Ethernet port.... hmmm I haven't tried mine yet to see if it's working
-
You think it's a hoax?
Want a video?
Of course you want a video
There you go, call Hoax all you like, but it's real and its coming out soon, even ignoring the pictures and the video, the recent price drop, the new lineup of Sony models all point towards a refresh, Anyway you seen it here first.
*Edit*
Sorry yes, the current Duo is backlit, I went through a period of owning a few different Sony models within the space of a few weeks trying to find one that suited me best, The duo is backlit, their Touchscreen ultrabooks were not. Thanks for reminding me.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Can you name your source?
-
13in is way too big to really use in tablet mode
-
Sorry but I don't believe it's true but what I can say is that someone have put in a lot of work to make...
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2 -
Internal training for Dixons staff, its not a massive secret and about 10,000 people have access to the same stuff as what I posted, I just know its not a announced model and it caught my eye.
I don't know what else to convince you that it's not a hoax, its not like I'm a new member or previously known as a troll.
Yes I know there are no other pictures or videos so it makes it hard to believe, but its been due for. While.
Believe it or not, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference to me. Just trying to give you all a heads up there's a new model. -
changing The battery to the Stylus did help with the semi responsive problem
-
Hold on, the Vaio Z series has pretty much always been in the 13" screen size. Could this be the new Z????

I know my post got lost in the news of the 13" Duo but can anyone help out with anything in my above post? Cheers.
-
Apologies, this thread should be kept to the Duo 11, not it's updated bigger brother, I'll start another thread in the Sony Owners lounge to focus the attention there.

Hey no apologies necessary at all and great find BTW. I have no doubt its real as many of us here queried the size of the Duo 11 bezel when it was launched and the 13" form factor in that screen mount seems reasonable. The 10hr battery life and promise of a lighter build are exactly what I'm after but I'm just stuck with the 11 for a bit and need to make the most of it (FWP honestly though)
