Lol why are you asking me for a source....

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious...have you tried Camera, HD TV, Blu-ray, MP3 player, laptop | Sony I had a quick look and they state the following for shipping:
I know they're a bit vague as they don't specify which parts of Ireland they ship to but it looks like they may well be able to ship to you. Vaio Duo 11 accessories seem in very short supply in Europe but it may be worth sticking an order in and if you manage to source another one in the meantime you can always cancel the order. Other than that I've not found anyone with accessories available at a sensible price, it's one of the most frustrating parts of the Vaio Duo 11 for me.

Wow, that is really cool. I love my Duo, but I do wish it were a 13in model. If the Surf Slide has the same dimensions as the Duo and a 10hr battery with nearly the same weight its an obvious win. If its bigger and heavier...then meh. I am really looking toward 3rd gen when Sony incorporates shrinking bezel technology a la Intel's North Cape reference prototype <--- this will make me update my Duo.
EDIT: They stylus definitely looks odd, it doesn't resemble any nTrig stylus I've ever seen... and they all look pretty similar.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
I would just like to say, that TheVerge, Engadget, Pocket-Lint and other websites from across the globe are now linking to my video and asking Sony for comment.
Since I posted here yesterday, it's now gone from "Fake, no way can it be real" status to being picked up from major news/blogging outlets to them asking Sony for comment, I know it's real, Sony knows it's real (hence why the video is down atm). News spreads fast online. -
Well if that's the case then it's good m8 I will buy it as soon as it will come out... It's a good update to the duo 11 but will miss ethernet and vga...

You know, it's funny reading everything written in those news sources, from the comments to the articles about a video you created yourself. I pretty much just edited a video made available and took the specs and leaked it here. Love Engadgets headline. "Mystery 13-inch Sony Ultrabook slider pops up in horribly grainy YouTube video".
But yea, I've taken the video down for pretty clear reasons why. It was inevitable once it gained popularity Sony would of picked up on it. -
You're famous CoolHotCold!

Hi guys,
Well, after a day of reading all the 86 pages of posts, I am now almost convinced the Duo 11 will fit my needs but I want to use my old legacy (x86) Solidworks CAD, which works on my old W7 HP tablet, so if anyone can put my mind at rest I'd be grateful? A second thought, does W8 writing with the stylus work the same as the W7 app, with slide-in pad from the screen edge? My target is the i7, 8Gb, 256Gb model.
A special thanks to Sonus who, from the start, has kept the discussions sane and sensible!

I use Fuijitsu USB 3.0 Port Replicator PR08 with a displaylink port. Have this hooked up to a dell 2560x1440 display via display port on the replicator and running a 1080p display via the Duo's HDMI port and the Duo's original screen as well.
Works ok, now and then the 2560x1400 micor freezes when moving the mouse around. A bit annoying so I use the 1080p as main display and the 2560x1400 for Office applications where the micro freezes doesn't matter so much.
Have 5i procssor, 8 Gb RAm.
Edit: New firmware upgrade for Port Replicator but the micro freezes still there. -
Hello everybody - just got my Duo 11 and don't know what to say.. It' really cool, but also two issues are challanging me to bring it back an to Exchange it with another one...
1. backlight bleeding - not to bad, but still annoing on the right lower corner of the display...
2. (and more annoing) - a "Transformator" Kind of a noise... White noise maybe?... Anyway - it's coming from the right upper corner of the base unit, when the backlight is not turned up to 100%. It's like inverter sound but I thought LED displays don't have an inverter......
Is it usual for the DUO to have this annoing issues? -
Back light bleeding is present on every single device I have had or seen including 2 surface pros, one of which is my friends but I had it with me for a few days to try out. I have had it on my ipads and I have it on my Vaio Duo 11. Its very little and at the bottom right side, but little so it doesnt bother me.
It has actually become less over the few days in fact its hardly noticeable now, this is always the case when the glue settles down which hold the screen!! Transformer kind of noise I dont have any, but some times a very faint whine near the lcd screen, which is normal. I cannot hear it unless i have my years right next to the screen. All LCD makes some sort of noise, you should hear my samsung plasma TV, got it changed once but still no difference!

Hello everybody just a quick intro as this was one of the sites/forums I visited extensively before I bought the Vaio Duo 11.
I have the machine for around 10 days still within my 14 days return policy. I was absolutely going crazy deciding between the Duo 11 and the Surface Pro but caved in and bought the Sony as I have never had a slider. I have had the surface RT and used the Surface pro for a few day from my friend just to try out. Absolutely love the Surface Pro and my Sony Duo 11. In the end I have decided to keep the Duo 11. Firstly I don't like returning things as its not fair unless I absolutely have some issue or the product is not liked by me to the point I cant live with it. Now I have the Duo 11 as I have mentioned for close to 10 days and have grown so fond of it that I don't have the need or energy to do a return and then pick up a surface pro. This is my first slider and its unique so I am keeping it, did I mention that again, lol!!
Ok just to give everyone some idea how crazy i am and how many tablets I have personally owned:
iPad version 1 to version 3 - stood in line first day (Sold all)
iPad mini - stood in line first day (Still have this with me)
Blackberry Playbook (Sold)
Google Nexus 7 (Sold)
Microsoft Surface RT (Sold) Stood in line first day
Lenovo Idea Pad 2 - brand new unit failed (Still lying with Lenovo repair center, almost going to be 2 months) Very disappointed with the product, customer service superb though. They are going to send out FINALLY a new one which they should have done at the beginning anyways. My fault as I should have asked customer support, as their repair team do not have authority over sending a new unit. BUT 2 months to repair common, every time I called they were wait for a new part or something else BUT very polite and always promptly called me back.
Now the Sony Vaio Duo 11
Might have missed one or 2 tablets as I cant remember, lol!
Ok just a brief outlay why I like the Duo 11 and decided to keep it. I have the i5, 1.7, 8Gb, 128mb Canadian model
- Balancing act not much required as its super stable and comfortable on the lap
- Beautiful bright screen, slightly larger than surface Pro and I have got used to it, dont know if I will like the 10.6 inch anymore though it not much of a differen (its all in the head u see)
- Very small foot print with the sliding mechanism which is unique and quite noticed in the coffee shop
- I have managed to significantly increase battery life by following one of the guides on the surface Pro forum. One can even reduce the fan speed in the power settings.
- got the sheet battery and hoping to hit close to 9 to 10 hours
- Very well built and I have had zero issues with it
- How many things are built in Japan nowadays!!!
- Sheet battery option is a big plus as surface pro does not have it
- Oh almost forgot love the back lit keyboard and
- the machine is super fast
With Haswell coming out the game will significantly change end of this year, since I love new toys and to try out new stuff I didn't want to beat myself over which one to buy but just enjoy the machine for now. Yes I would have liked it to be thinner and lighter and have more battery life, but given the present technology before Haswell comes out it is a no brainer. Sometimes when I read the reviews by these tech blogs, I cant help but think they are smoking some kind of stuff or getting influenced by someone to write some sort of negative reviews on windows product.
I had everything Mac/Apple for the last 6 to 7 years, when Windows 8 was launched last year Oct, I loved it, touch is the future and Windows 8 has done a good job for the first version. So I sold my Apple Pro 2.8 Quad Tower with the 30" Cinema Display (was really sad to see the 30" monitor go), sold my iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
Picked up a Dell XPS 27 Touch All-in-one and love it, Surface RT and Nokia L 920, hehehehe talk about a complete crazy turnaround but thats the way I am. I loved apple but they are extremely boring right now, yawn yawn not one bit of innovation in their new products and the icons and menu are really old across their whole range of products.
Phew!! long one but just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys. -
Oh also wanted to add another thing on Windows 8. I have been running my Dell XPS-27 touch 24 hours since last year November, not one crash or slowdown or problem. Super stable, fast and no trace of virus or malware and I only use the built in windows defender only. Good job Microsoft, to all the people who hate it, I don't get it the desktop is still there, Generally people are so averse to any changes they they will criticize everything. Personally I love to try out new stuff IMHO this is one of the best OS I have ever tried, for my daily computer needs I couldnt be happier. Maybe for coders or other type of people its different, don't know. But looking around at all the new tech these days touch is the future and no way will that change!
-
Welcome Mike! Hope you do get the Duo, as its such a great machine for Win8. I can't tell you about SolidWorks CAD on Win8 unfortunately. As to the slide-in stylus pad from Win7 and prior it is gone. Windows 8 has an auto pop-up keyboard/handwriting transcriber when you are using metro apps. When you are in the desktop though, you have to manually activate your keyboard/transcriber by clicking an icon on the taskbar. Many have complained about this (maybe it'll be back in Win8.1), however I don't miss it as much, b/c the keyboard is always so accessible on the Duo.
Also, you may already know this, but there is sister Duo forum on forum.tabletpcreview.com. The discussions there are more tabletpc oriented and someone may be able to answer your CAD question. -
I too have noticed that is just got better and almost not noticable.
-
OMG! So I'm not the only one that switches tech like I change underwares... My wife thinks I'm crazy!!!

At one stage I used to use a different laptop for each day of the week but that all went to hell when I had 10 laptops as there wasn't enough days. Never mind the Mac Mini, Mac Pro, 24" iMac, 27" iMac, ipad, Playbook, Galaxy Tab, 3 iphones and now a HTC One. I actually think I have more computing devices than underwear at this stage but I promise to quit as soon as I get an Oculus Rift, a PS4 and a hoverboard. Seriously thats a promise,
Oh and I became less productive as a result of having so many productivity apps on all the devices I couldn't figure out what the hell I was meant to be doing on what day.
-
^ hey, you want an Xperia Tablet Z too?

Hahahahaha, oh that cracked me up!!!!

I traded the ex in for the Duo. She wasn't as lightweight as the Duo, was harder to drag around and her serious touch sensitivity issues

Hi All Ive been enjoying the duao since christmas, excellent machine, I ordered the visiontek msata 480 SSD... Long story short it doesn't work, the bios just says disk not present.
If I put back the original SSD everything works as expected, but if I put it back the new one goes back to saying there is no hard drive.
I searched and the only thing I found was this:
Mushkin Forums :: Topic: SSD 480GB mSATA & Sony Vaio Duo 11 (1/4)
Same thing happening to me, unfortunately I don't have an external enclosure to test the drive I will try to put it in a W500 that I have but don't know if it will recongnize it either.
On another note once I put back the duo, I now have no audio
it says that audio is disabled...;( any ideas?

vozi that is encouraging...can you share when you bought port replicator and what version of displaylink you are using?

You should open it again and check all connections.

I am over seas on vacation so haven't been much active on the Internet but this indeed is really true and funny, I feel I'm so non productive with more devices I get, I'm guessing we start becoming like geeks rather than actually use the products.
Sure LOL when I read this! -
Hey. Anyone else finding that their stylus buttons only work in the metro environment?
Am I doing something wrong? (I disabled the active clip hotkey setup). -
Look what I found can't wait good thing is it will be available in black as well
Haswell processors 4g connectivity hmmmmm

Nice find! Share the full link please.

Hmmm . . . why do I keep seeing adverts for the Duo as having quad core processors
? The I5 and I7 processors listed for this machine are both 2-core 4-thread devices with very little speed difference, see the Intel website, and the benchmarks confirm this, but I'm not complaining as the I5 will be fast enough for me and the cost saving has been put into having 8gig memory (free upgrade until yesterday) and the 512gig drive. Can't wait for Haswell so will keep the charger handy!

It was on Sony site but it's not there anymore

Just received and installed my sheet battery. I was very happily surprised at the dimensions and the weight, and am kicking myself for not doing it earlier. Would highly recommend it even if you only will occasionally need the 10 hour life.
-
pic saying 21 or 26 June
ps:hi first post -
Ill have 10 of the 13 inch ones at that price
-
I'd only buy them at that price if they give me a 10% discount.
-
Lol I was just lucky that I visited the site when it was there but there was no pricing but it will be 15-20 % more than duo 11 it is just what I think and could be wrong....

I got my duo 11 when it first came out and have used it mostly in the desktop. I just notice today that when I switch to the app screen the task bar from the desktop will still show up. Seems to be having some kinda screen burn in. But after the computer is screen is off for awhile it would go away. Has anyone else experienced this and this isn't normal right?
-
Yeah. Pretty much normal unfortunately. Points to Sony using a cheap ips panel in the duo 11. Hopefully will be improved upon with the 13.
-
Solved. Apparently you have to hold the small stylus button and tap for right click. Unlike the wacom approach where you can just hover click.

Same problem here (I5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD): My duo has image persistence/ghosting issues all the time, specially in the edges of the screen, where you can see the task-bar ghost (for example, in modern ui interface) or the google chrome upper part (if you've ussed it for a while).
Using a grey baskground (both in desktop and metro) makes esasier to see the ghost image. It dissapears if you turn off the screen for some time, but it reapperars easily.
I've readen all the post regarding the issue here and in othr forums, but there're not solution because it appears to be a low quality IPS screen issue, and proably, if you choose to use the garanty and take another vaio duo, it will probably have the same problem.
It's a pity, because I love the duo, and I love(d) Sony... I guest, we'll have to live with the ghosting, and to accept it.
Dark backgrounds make it less noticeable, but it's allways present.
Greetings, and sorry for my english (spanish here) and for the missing letters: duo keyboard, you know
-
kinda disappointing to hear that even sony won't beable to fix it. I had no problem with my Z11 and I went ahead and got the Duo11. I guess asking you guys saved me the hassle of trying to get sony to fix it. I was talking with sony online chat tech support and they don't seem to have any idea of what screen burn in is. It took them 45 min of asking me if I hook it up to an external monitor is the problem still there, to finally tell me to contact tech support over the phone.
-
By the way, I've visited a sony store today and they had no idea about the ghosting issue.
I've checked 3 vaio duo 11 today (one in the sony store and the other 2 were in exhibition in different malls): the 3 of them suffered from ghosting, I tested it, so I didn't use my garanty and I didn't ask for another new vaio duo, for what? at least here, in Chile, all the packed models have a ghosting-IPS-screen... No more to say
-
Yup. That's just the way they are. Too bad.
-
It's lcd problem I believe.
I just have a new lcd changed due to dead pixels and the lcd has the same flicker under gray background.
Sent from my LT30at using Tapatalk 2 -
I hope everyone's doing well on this thread.
I'm still really disappointed in the Windows 8 software options for inking natively in large PDF textbooks. PDF Annotator 4 and Bluebeam Revu feel too slow, particularly when rendering pages. In Preview, I can flip through pages as fast as I flip pages in a real book, and the rendering is able to keep up. Conversely, my major annoyance with Microsoft Reader is that the bookmarks can't be collapsed, so it takes forever for me to navigate to a chapter near the end of a book!
Anything that renders as quickly as Preview does with annotation as precise as Annotator 4 and Bluebeam Revu would really have an impact, I think. Is there anyone out there who's working on a competing PDF reader?
Still no updates from the ezPDF crew (m.unidocs.com) ... -
I purchased this lovely piece of technology around 10 weeks ago and have mostly good things to say. I originally found the keyboard cumbersome and annoying, but now I'm typing a good extra 20 WPM compared to my other keyboards (MS, VAIO SZ, VAIO S and VAIO L supplied).
I've also noticed the ghosting effect on the screen. It is most noticeable when shutting down when the screen in grey, yet when it is rebooting to a black screen seconds later, the ghost image is immediately no longer visible. I believe this issue may be rectified with a graphics driver update.
The WLAN problem seems to be random. I could remain connected for minutes, hours or even days.. but then a WLAN connection is just not possible without rebooting. Kind of odd this issue persists despite VAIO update insisting this PC is up-to-date. -
Hello Duo 11 owners, I wanted some information about photoshop and how it runs on the device to anyone who installed and uses it on the device. Does the pressure sensitive pen work in photoshop? I heard that it does not, is this correct?
