Good day everyone, got my Vaio Duo 11 a couple of weeks and it's been good so far. Only problem i noticed though is that the screen lock setting when you swipe the settings on the right side of the screen now says "Brightness" only and not "Screen" where i could easily lock the screen rotation.
In short, it's not rotating automatically now. Anyone have the same problem with their Duo 11?

Check Device Manager in Control Panel. Under Sensors, there should be a device labeled "Simple Device Orientation Sensor" Is your missing/disabled/have a question mark by it? Try right clicking to "Enable" or "Update Driver Device Software..."

Unfortunatley this disc isn't self enctypting (as far as I can see). Will cancel the i3 and order an i5 model, oh, well...
Thanks, this inforamtion helped me a lot! /Voz -
i3 does not have the extended AES encryption instruction set (and the Duo's SDD is not self encrypting). Software encryption will run ok on i3 but draw a bit more battery as the CPU has to work harder. Thus choose i5 or and i7 if you plan to encrypt the disk.

Anyone getting temporary "ghosting" on their screen? I forgot the name for it, but it happens on IPS displays, its not burn in as its temporary, but it looks like burn in. Basically imprints of whatever you had open for a while that stays there until you turn the screen off for a few minutes or with enough changes away from static imagery?
I ask because I started noticing that my screen does this since ive started using the duo more for studying, and consequently having chrome/pdfs/worddocs open for prolonged periods of time. Its never permanent and goes away after not using it, but still. Slight odd annoyance. -
xerotheory @ check the refresh rate. My display has some "ghosting" too, but only if I set refresh rate at 40 Hz. If the refresh is set to 60, I never saw any trace of ghosting.

I have found several power adapters. You need to look for a netbook power adapter, not a laptop.
-
Just installed Driver Hotkey Utilities, gave me a error about the battery not being genuine Sony !?! Lucky i stopped the Start-up item ISB Utility. Kept forcing me to shut-down.

You can search eBay for AC10V5
It is for VAIO P, VAIO X and now you can use it for VAIO Duo

who can write complete instruction for open case vaio duo 11 by safe for sony guarantee? i want upgrade original ssd from 128g to 256g.
-
Does sony provide the services to update the RAM ?
so with the 2GB on board , I can still update 4GB to 6GB -
I think the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard
-
I am beginning to hate sony 3 weeks down and no sign of my ultrabook.....is Sony US odering the i7 version from japan via horses or what?
Does anyone know any store in the houston area with an i7 in store? -
I7 is really hot now. My local store only have i5 In stock recently which I picked up one.

4GB is soldered onto motherboard. There is a socket that can be populated with 0, 2, or 4GB. No one has tried populating with 8GB yet, but that may also work.
-
One of your local Fry's has the i7 model on hand. Give them a call: (281) 338-1762

nearby frys are all out.
btw, J&R lists it as expected to ship 12/04 (few hours ago, it was 12/06), they might be in stock soon.

Hi, I'm new to the sony vaio duo 11 (I have the i5 with 128 SSD and 6gb RAM), but I don't see where is the RAM slot, is it possible it is under the battery?
in this post hendhess shows the vaio with the back open and there is no clear sign of the ram slot -
Agreed -- I'll confirm that when I took the battery out, I didn't see a RAM slot under there, either, at least with the version of the Vaio 11 I own. Maybe there's an easier access point that I missed...?
-
The board is showing 8 RAM chips are soldered. They could be 4G but more like 2GB because manufacturer avoid to use high density chip (cost effective).
If your DUO is 4GB onboard, there could be 8 chips on the other side and another slot too at the same area of the ram chips you see.
They won't be underneath battery. RAM has to be on mainboard near CPU.

I just opened my Duo i5 (Ready to Ship) to figure out we can NOT upgrade RAM (thanks to hendhess for showing screw locations).
8 chips you see are total 2GB. But there is no another 8 chips on other side. Which means you have only 2GB onboard.
The removable RAM module is exactly the same size and connector of VPCZ2 and SVZ13. However, I plugged my 4G from VPCZ2, and Duo didn't detect it.
Anyway, it could be compatibility, but even it worked, it would still be 6GB total.
4GB Duo module only has 8 chips using Hynix 4Gb devices H5TC4G83MFR.
So, SSD is upgradable. Mine is Toshiba THNSNS128GMCP.
RAM may be not upgradable unless you have a Configure to Order. This version may have 4GB onboard.

IMO, Duo has really good speaker over other models such as S, T or Z
-
I found the same then I adjusted the sensitivity and acceleration and turned off the tapping so it's for movement only. Now it's really good - much more like a track point and the number of swipes to move it around are much reduced with the acceleration turned up a bit.
-
I'd be interested to know what settings you're using, also have you changed the scrolling settings?

my friend , Can you explain description (in picture) for open case vaio duo 11? i want upgrade original ssd from 128g to 256g. thank you very much.
-
I attached some photos showing screw locations and its differences.
I circled where the screw is with colors.
White is silver screws. Red and Yellow are black screws but different sizes.
After you remove all screws, just hold to the lever foot and lift up the bottom cover. It is easy to remove it. There is no clips holding it. -
thank you very much for description. my friend. i saw speaker mesh. how to open it?
-
I am using a needle tweezer. Just gently use tweezer and lift the mesh up from the edge. Once you pull up a bit of the mesh, use a plastic stick to go further. Don't use your finger because it will make adhesive less sticking.

Seems to work fine for me. First thing I did when getting the computer was install the Pro Pack so I could get rid of that moronic lock screen and the few things from Sony that where on there like the help system still appeared. There is also still a Sony section in the store and the one useful app I saw there, the Note Anytime App installed and worked fine. Whats kind of funny are the Toshiba exclusive apps that where on the very crappy U925T that I replaced with the Sony where also still in the store as apps I had purchased and still installable. From what I'm reading from people in the forum, it seems the best way to buy the computer is from the Microsoft Store like I did. I never had any of the crapware that seems to be plaguing some people on here like Mcafee so it never caused any problems. I don't think I'll ever buy another computer that doesn't have that Microsoft Signature sticker on the box again. For some of the people having problems with the screen unresponsive
occasionally, try either unplugging the computer or changing power sockets if your plugged in. I mostly use mine in a truck on inverter power and noticed that one of my inverters caused what can best be described as interference. Changing to a different inverter and sometimes just stretching out the cord to the power adaptor seems to remedy the situation for me. This seems to happen on my best non modified sine wave inverters, read just like wall power as well as a cheaper one so my guess is really good strong electrical waves are causing some kind of signal distortion in the power adaptor that affects the screen. Since this didn't happen with the otherwise crappy Toshiba or any of Android tablets, I'm left thinking it has to be a problem with the Sony adaptor. -
No GPS. I actually asked Sony about that because it was a selling point for this machine and the Toshiba I had. It didn't work. I found this out the hard way on the Toshiba. Even though it had one, nothing, not even the normal Windows 8 stuff like Bing Maps could access it. Apparently the chips going into these ultrabooks that everyone is using don't access GPS chips thru a Comm Port like in the old days. The chip reports to something called Windows Location API which wants to use wifi triangulation for location before gps making gps effectively useless when its needed most, when your mobile. This makes Windows 8 native apps effectively useless since the location service wants to report the location your wifi hotspot is reporting as the location, which is probably thousands of miles away and since legacy programs such as Copilot and Streets and Trips use the GPS directly thru a comm port and don't use Windows Location API they can't see the built in chips at all. The Sony rep said they actually changed the specs at the last minute and removed the gps and added a memory card slot which wasn't in the original spec because of these limitations. I don't know if that's true since it all seems a little quick to me but I do know it was a huge problem with the Toshiba and I spent many hours with and actual US engineer over several days as they tried many different ways and newly written drivers to get around the problem before I finally gave up though I will say I hope Sony's customer support is as responsive as what I got from Toshiba. It was a crappy all around Ultrabook but they really did try to make it work. What has worked for me on the Sony is installing the GPS dongle that comes bundled with Streets and Trips, at least for legacy mapping software. It works extremely well especially considering how small it is, even going down the canyons of New York City which is always problematic. Unfortunately no Windows 8 native app can see it because of the reverse problem of them looking for the location API and it defaulting to wifi locations. Until MS makes a fix for the api not defaulting to the most accurate coordinates, this will remain a problem on all Windows 8 computers.

Same problem and even refreshing devices in device manager doesn't help. Any ideas?
-
Its almost impposible to get the i7 in the US.

j&r emailed me saying that they'll be in stock sometime this week.
ed, now their website lists the item as out of stock... -
For those who want to see where eyes can´t reach,
Test Sony Vaio Duo 11 SV-D1121X9EB Ultrabook - Notebookcheck.com Tests
Congratulations for this forum, it´s very helpful, especially when in a country where the Sony´s sellers simply don´t know what they are selling !
By the way, I'm in Brazil.
Thank you all !
Excellent idea, could you post the picture again? I could not open. -
I am lovin' these pictures -- I'd like to see those velcro mods, too! Thanks again.

Hi All --
Wanted to join this thread as I also have a Duo 11. I pre-ordered from the Sony website the first day they were up for pre-order and it came to me on release day. I have the i7 model with 256gb ssd and 8gb RAM. So far, I love this system. It does exactly what i want it to do. Someone asked for a screenshot of the location provider in the device manager - I have posted it here. As far as GPS goes -- I am in the US and the location based stuff seems to work fine -- I can not tell if its using wifi or GPS for the data, but I am capable of using google maps with location data.
Something I am pleasantly happy about is the ability of this system to play Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition at 60fps at 720p. I have my Duo 11 connected to my Dell UW3009 via HDMI and Street Fighting with an arcade stick has made me never feel the need to game on IOS again. -
There is no Configure to Order models on US Online Store

hi guys, i noticed there's a slight burn marks on the lcd of the duo, has anyone have the same problem? it goes away though but its annoying
-
A picture will help if you can. Do you mean inside or out?
I didn't notice any unusual on my Duo screen. -
Hello everyone,
I have just bought a Vaio Duo 11 with dual front and rear cameras.I am trying to Skype someone and I can only see the rear camera. Anyone know how to swich the cameras. There is no app and nothing in the manuals to help with this. -
hi ngvuanh, its inside the lcd screen, like the ones in the plasma tv displays. you can try it out, like opening a picture for a minute, then move it around and you can see a burn-in in the lcd screen, use grayish colors so you can see it more clearly

Hello, I tried inking in Onenote (2013) for about 20 minutes on an i3 model in a shop today. Compared to my Wacom fitted Lenovo X201T the precision is better, i.e. the dot/line is just beneath the pen tip. The ink is also crisper, due to the screen resoulution I guess. But the digitzer had a "microlag" when initiating a stroke (or the "lazzo" tool). E,g, when inking the Swedish characters ö,å,å I had to slow down for it to recognize the "dots" above the characters. The pressure sensitivity where there but not as smooth as on the Lenovo. I also struggled a bit with palm rejection and had to take care not to land the palm to much ahead of the pen.
What is your experience with quick writing/notetaking in Onenote? -
Hi everyone!
I got my duo today and i like it very much BUT i have annoying light leakin bottom on my screen. anyone else got this problem? -
Someone mentioned this before if refresh rate was set at 40Hz.
Try going to vaio control center and check that setting.

Make a test by setting the refresh rate of the display 60Mz, should remove these afterimages ..

Valuable information in this forum!
I too have ordered the Vaio Duo 11, online with Sony in The Netherlands.
Ordered the i5 + 8GB + 256GB SSD for EUR 1338. I get discount because I can buy in the education store. On top of that the upgrade from i3 to i5 is free. Before I ordered the same for EUR 1410, but I saw the prices changed, called Sony and I could cancel and re-enter my order. Funny thing is that delivery is now 1 week sooner (scheduled Dec 13-17).
Does anyone know how I can get hold of the official sleeve from Sony? I can't order this with Sony NL yet.. Also any news regarding pressure sensitivity in Photoshop would be welcome. I read something about N-Trig having newer drivers available with WinTAB support, did anyone try this? -
amazon.co.uk has a case if not you will have to get someone in the US to buy it for you
-
You should be glad you have yours coming in soon. I have the bag, additional stylus, cleaning kit, screen protector but no ultrabook yet. Sony US is sayign xmass week for delivery of i7, I am not sure if it is santa that will deliver it....so all fingers point to Jan 2013 for delivery.
