Hi C3ntauri, could you please attach your gpuz for ati 4650? I checked this model VGN-FW46GJ/B (ati 4650 1G) at sony's shop, it show GPU clock:450 and memory:600 and GDDR3 only compare to DV6 (ati 4650 1G) GPU clock:550 and memory:667 and GDDR3 in my country. Since both are GDDR3, it possible that sony downclock it? and the performance drop alot right?

Are you sure that the FWs are getting DDR3 anywhere?

    Not in the U.S.: http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache...W460JB/+VGN-FW460J/B&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Why at the end of the week? Historical trend or something?

I ask because I'm thinking of picking up a Z790 CTO.

Can't open up your link, but yes, even the ATI HD3650 is working with DDR3 dedicated graphics memory on the FW3 series, just not as much as the 1GB.

Quick update from work, Did an update to the latest Windows 7 RC and everything works from the jump (minus the Memory card readers) Vista drivers fix that, brightness, FN & audio buttons all work audio- HDMI, also there is a driver update from three days ago on the ATI website im going to install it on my next break - Also did a format then Windows 7 install not an upgrade.

@C3ntauri: If you use Windows 7 RC, can you please check if you can use the XP-Mode (if VT-x is activated in the new FW)?

Is the Windows 7 coupon really already included in the new FW-Series?

I've got a quick question: can I replace the keyboard on Vaio SR myself? They won't sell me a QWERTY-packing laptop here in France but I thought I can get it through Sony service and just replace (plenty of laptops have user-serviceable keyboards).

Anyone knows? Wonder how much I would have to pay for that though...

Sorry I haven't read the previous 46 pages of posts, but I was just curious if any new Sony Vaio SR's would be available soon. I want to get one for college. If there are new ones, how will the prices be?

That website has turned into such a ridiculous wasteland of advertisements. 5585 is a great score, but according to that website it appears to be eclipsed by just about everything, which is just plain silly. Great score, tho!

System default is 1600 x 900 but 3dmark default is 1280 x 768 so I do think that is what it was tested at.

<s>Sorry VT is Epic Fail software says no hardware support found!</s>

From what I have read Fail of VT is not the Bios Its my CPU - My system has a T6500 2.10 in it by Default
I need to update that to one that can handle VT and try again!

Hmm...I think I'd have to buy a SR in where I live (Viet Nam) now. Its about $200 more expensive in the US thanks to the nice tax but it's also far more convenient to buy it here so yeah, hope that my family won't hassle about it :D

They don't ship internationally, do they? Germany seems to have the SR45 (configure to order) with QWERTY keyboard, but I don't think they will ship either to Switzerland or France; besides, France is cheaper anyway and swapping the keyboard might not be too bad.

Unfortunately for ready-built, the SR41 has slow CPU and SR49 dosn't have the Radeon 4570, has the old Radeon instead (or is it a mistake on the website? there's plenty of those there... what's the point of offering both 4570 and the older 3000-series). Is it so hard to put 2.66Ghz CPU AND Radeon 4570? USA should have one like that (was listed on jr.com for a while)

I'm trying to get a photo of Vaio SR AZERTY keyboard; If the key layout/shape is the same, then I don't care. I'm touch typing anyway, so I could just switch the layout in the OS. However, different layouts often have different arrangements of special characters like /, ~, @, # and so on; and I don't like that...

I'm expecting it to be a mistake, as Sony has made many mistakes in the past with new models.

As you say, it doesn't make any sense.

PS. Can you please use the edit function instead of posting twice in a row? Thanks.

Odd as it is, it's not a mistake I'm afraid; those models are already available, not preorder. So, there's a SR4x laptop with 4570, another with 3470 and another with Intel integrated... lol.. And to make things funny, you either get the fast CPU or fast GPU... Sony! Have mercy... What and idiot approved this?

No, we get NL or CEK models (dutch keyboards or UK). But US only differs a little from NL , but if you write software, can be very annoying.

Are there any differences in buying a pre-configured model over a CTO? build quality, warranty, software, etc?

I believe the only difference there is, is the hardware you choose. Same build quality and bloatware.

    Nobackup got a 4143 3dmark 06 score on his new SR - ATI 4650 (512) and 4GB DDR2.

Anyone know how much of an improvement DDR3 gives?

I wonder if you can improve this result by using better drivers (i.e. better than those shipped with the laptop itself; just get latest version from ATI instead)

That's exactly the same score as Dell 1555 with DDR3.

I think Sony SR also comes with DDR3 or it would not be getting that score.
