A quick question: can this laptop output full HD DTS/Dolby through HDMI to a receiver when playing a blu-ray disc?

How does the graphics card in this machine compare to the Radeon 5730 found in Asus N61 series?

Yes. This card can bitstream LPCM over the HDMI for Dolby True HD and DTS HD-MA. And depends on the comparison, the 5730 is going to be roughly comparable with the GT330m with the 5730 being a bit more powerful. The 5730 will squash the G310m though.

So the BestBuy version of the i5 CW with the GT330m and higher res screen will be able to comfortably handle Mass Effect 2 and other modern games?

Can some one please confirm this, the palm rest area on the right side of my BB CW27FX (indigo) gets noticeably hot and this is not with any gaming or high rev apps, is that normal and do you guys have the same issue. Could this be because of the fact that I primarily use it in my lap and not on sitting on a desk. Left palm rest area stays pretty comfortable but the right gets significantly hot...I dont know thoughts???

    Woo!
    I got one!
I actually got two, because one was paypal, then i decided to buy it again with my CC to get the extended warrenty.
So, if they are out of stock later, i won't cancel the order until tomorrow (incase some one wants it).

So if any one wants it, let me know! (it has the 1 year accidental damage warrenty on it)

    I ordered a white one :D

Hopefully the alienware gets here within BB's return timeframe so I can decide which to keep.

This laptop looks almost perfect for me. But I'm concerned with the battery life (I need 4 hours straight of web browsing), and I'm annoyed that the HDD is only 5400RPM (I plan to be gaming some on it). Can anyone tell me if these things will be a problem?

the 5400 RPM shouldn't be a problem, i've had 5400rpm drives on gaming laptops and they were fine.

As for the 4 hrs, with undervolting that should be doable, and if they ever release a BIOS that supports switchable graphics then definatly you'd be fine

Sounds great! I'm still monitoring the Asus N82, which I know has switchable graphics (though possibly a lower-res screen?). But this Sony looks great. I went over to Best Buy the other day and saw the i3 model, and it's a great form factor. I just wish there were a way to get it from Best Buy without CA sales tax.

Sold out! (Black model). If you want one you ca get it from aan310 he has an extra one (he bought 2), Here. Or you could wait 3-7 days, they should get new stock by then.

Why is the white one cheaper than the Black & Indigo ones?

the asus will have a lower resolution (i'll almost guarentee) and will be lower build quality and also will be around the same price.
Yes I do, you have until it gets here to PM me, which should be in like 3 days. Else it's getting returned.

Also, the white one does NOT have Blu-Ray where as the Indigo (purple) and Black do.

Those with the white, how are you liking it? The higher resolution screen is considerably better than the other model?

Yes it is. Slaughterhouse had both and said he liked the new one alot better, and the screen was alot better too.
I jsut wish sony used that 'xbrite' on these screens, because the ones that have that look really good.

cw27 is it an exclusive offer from bestbuy ? I'm leaving in Canada and I didn't find a place to buy it.

    Bestbuy.ca only sell core3 with gt310m and on sonystyle.ca no gt330m available in option ! :(

For the fellas who are lucky to own one - hows the battery life looking? I've been pondering getting one of the newer Asus UL/PL 13.3"s or this but just curious if the battery life is atleast acceptable.

lol im the same.. i either want the asus ul80vt or this sony vaio

on one hand. this sony vaio is a beast but suffers with poor battery life

on another hand the asus has amazinggggg battery life and a really nice sleek design but suffers from average specs

but i edit video, i use photoshop, im into photography AND i love games so i think this vaio is in the lead for my choice. that ul80vt is still calling my name though lol

Add to the fact that the Sony comes with 1600x900 res LCD and it's looking a hell of a lot better. I don't think I'd be able to do the low res 720P on the Asus coming from Thinkpads with 1400x01050 and 1600x1200 resolutions.

My first real use of my battery this weekend, ran over 3:30 actual. Maybe even closer to 4 hours, but I didn't count exact minutes. Wasn't doing anything serious, just regular web stuff. I also customized my "Power Saver" setting; primary factor is processor state min/max = 5/50%. Not too bad really.....

I cap my battery at max 80%. From there, on a regular basis I can go from 80% to my 10% battery low notice in about 3 hours. The last time this happened, I was using wifi, browsing the web (forums and some news sites), editing a PowerPoint, and stream music through Grooveshark for about 45 minutes.

Also, in my case I tweaked my Windows (no "glass" look, turning off certain services, etc.) and PowerSaver settings.

Those are some wacky notices! I get some pretty decent reads on mine.
