I had the same problem using nlite, I tired three different version of windows xp professional. On my last attempt I decided not to use their software for the burning to the cd and I think that helped. So I just made an image and then used alcohol 120 or something similar to burn the image onto a cd. Hope that helps.

Need help:
I installed all the drivers, and it seems that everything works fine except for the sound drivers. It just won't detect that there is any sound device on this laptop. Does anyone have any ideas? -
Just tried that Vaio support link there, tells me to feck off - "Dear customer, it seems that there is a problem with the details you have provided."
It wont explain but i recon it's cause i have an NR and that page isnt for NR's
No progress on getting brightness working. Apart from that thought, its a crackin little laptop with XP on it, it sings with all that RAM.
A for the sound, i just followed the instructions outlined in this thread, to the letter, and it worked a treat. -
No brightness does not work for me, but fortunately I'm on the highest brightness so I don't need to change it.
-
yeeeeeeeeee finally i got them all, the only thing missing is the wireless, i can't get the wireless working, can someone gimme the driver for the wireless please, thanks in advance
-
I still have problems with the sound. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling kb888111xpsp2.exe first and then installing AUDIO_XP_2K_050919.zip, I also tried installing some other realtek driver I found on another site which I lost. But it didn't work. I read this forum and it said there is some sort of order required in the installation. Like someone said that you have to install sound before the modem drivers, but I had slipstreamed the modem driver into the installation. I don't know, I could really use some help.
Also I only have SP2 installed, perhaps that may have something to do with it. Do I need certain windows updates to make it work? -
can i have the driver or watever it needs to get the wireless work please
-
i guess if i were to do this, its better if i turn the brightness on max before i downgrade it to xp?
-

I have problem with the sound VGN-NR110E...i try install sound drivers many times but it don't work..Who can help me? thanks
-
heres the wifi link, http://4filehosting.com/file/89893/wifi-zip.html
now tell me you got the brightness control working... having to use FULL bright in low light conditions is wrecking my head and theres probally half an hours battery life to be saved too -
-
Got here via way of a Google search. I'm sick of Vista and I have an XP Pro SP2 CD and license just sitting around unused.
So has anyone produced a guide that one can follow yet? -
-
Firstly, I installed windows XP on my VGN-NR110E/s via TinyXP (Google, look for a torrent.) (comes with SATA drivers integrated, etc)
Next, I installed drivers for graphics from this thread (like page 3-ish, a good link was posted.)
Mouse driver was also from the same guy on like page 3.
Wireless drivers were found here. look for "IEEE 802.11a/g Wireless LAN Adapter (A) Driver (4)" (page3)
Sound hotkey thing was posted in this thread too.
Things I don't have myself: Those card readers (I don't use them.) Ethernet (I don't use it anymore, but a good link was posted on page 3 that worked just fine back when I had a wired router. I don't have button controls for screen brightness, but it is change-able through options (see a bit down.) That's about it..
Screen shot of it running:
To change the screen brightness, just go to your advanced graphic options and change the brightness level as shown in this picture heeeere:
Runs much much faster than the default vista that comes loaded. Best of luck to all, hope I helped. -
omg thanks for posting those ss
but i think im gonna try dual booting the xp...
is that possible? -
I have problem with the sound VGN-NR110E...i try install sound drivers many times but it don't work.. help me? thanks

V.Grove...
Audio
~~~~~
1) Install the patch kb888111 first. Get a download link for this file from
http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/arc.../11/81540.aspx
2) Install the Realtek Driver now. Get this from
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...ct=3&model=W3V
This also includes the patch that supersedes 888111 but don't bother about it. Just run setup.
P.S. - Make sure the 888111 patch goes in first. You may have to fiddle around with these 2 things to get it working. But it does work. If done the right way, it'll work fine.
-> I installed drivers for audio from this thread (like page 3) until driver sound does not work..someone help me? -
-
Regarding Sound: You have to install the chipset driver, then the graphics driver and then the sound, then the card reader, then the modem, then the wireless, if you mess up the order I don't know how you can fix it. I didn't do it in that order at first and I just couldn't get sound to work. So I formatted again and did it in the above order and it worked.
I was wondering if anyone had a problem with freezing in XP. My laptop has froze 3 times in the past 3 weeks for no apparent reason. It would just freeze and I can't move the mouse or do anything but shut down. If anyone else has had this problem or knows why I might have this problem, please let me know, thanks.
anyone here got the 5 in 1 card reader to work on their xp nr110e/s?
which key do I press to get into the bios at startup?
I too downgraded to WinXP. Everything worked except for brightness control. So, in the absence of any tools, I decided to go and write some code. You can download my results at:
http://rapidshare.com/files/83073814/Backlight.zip.html
You dont need Sony Notebook Control or other Sony drivers. But you do need to install MSVC 2005 redistributable, and also memaccess (Ive included both packages). After that, run backlight.exe. I only put in 5 brightness settings, due to a bug I wasnt able to track down. So, type backlight x at the command prompt, where x = 1 (dimmest), 2, 3, 4, or 5 (brightness). You can also add backlight to your startup folder, and alter the setting in backlight.cfg.
I wrote this for my VGN-NR110E, but this might also work on other VGN-NR models with GMA 965 graphics card.
This tool is far from perfect, but it's better than nothing? For instance, if you run a game in fullscreen, the Intel driver apparently resets the brightness - you would have to switch back to desktop, and rerun backlight.exe.
Credit goes to Lortie and Blache who did the reverse engineering work, and wrote the MacBook Backlight Control for Linux. Google gma950_backlight.c for the original source code.
I am, however, using the eval version of memaccess, so there is an annoying nag screen everytime you run the utility. If anybody has a copy of memaccess that theyre not using, they can send me that copy, and Ill be able to recompile a non-nag version. -
Hey, I found a link to the brightness problem on another forum ( http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?postid=2632513).
You can either read it for yourself, or go to
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/Original/
and click on the link for "FE3_Utilities.zip" and open (in order):
1. Utils Installer 1 SonyUtilsDLL
2. Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library
3. Utils Installer Vaio Event Service
They say it fixes the FN + F5 and F6 buttons themselves. (I haven't done it, yet, it's a 3 hour download ... i'll post to let everyone know if it worked ...) -
-
I put both Backlight.cfg and Backlight.exe in C:\ and made batch files that will change the value and set the brightness automatically such that:
bright.bat
Code:@ECHO OFF echo 5 > C:\Backlight.cfg c:\Backlight.exe
Code:@ECHO OFF echo 1 > C:\Backlight.cfg c:\Backlight.exe
-
Thanks for putting in the time and effort into this, much appreciated!
It wont take brightness level 1 or 3 it seems- blue screens with an infinite loop error. Holding steady now at 2 which is nice in low light conditions and should have me some battery
If you want any more debug info on this error let me know and i can test. -
Hello everyone.
thanks a lot for this massive collection of knowledge/files. they are greatly appriciated
Its been a long day but I have the NR110E almost running on xp .
"""""PCI Slot 9 (PCI bus 6, device 0, function 0)"""""
2) the light on the wlan switch is on
3) when i unistall the driver the light goes off.
I am think I got the driver right (thanks to this forum) but i cant see any wireless interent connection. the connection icons say some form of connection is detected but when i click on the bubble it says no network in range.
I know my connection is b/g and the atheros accept b/g. I used the wifi drivers by mobious, one mentioned on page 3 and also the one from page 6 (I think, the one with picture). nothing seem to work
Are you sure thats the right driver?
Mine says "Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter"
There is a utility called "Atheros Client Utility", link below
http://notebook.free-driver-download.com/Toshiba/34307/Toshiba-Atheros-Client-Utility-4.1.1.231i153-Windows-XP.html
Try that, but check your driver again. -
anyone know if Sony will offer support for XP for the vgn-nr110e/s?? I found a link for Sony UK and they have offered xp driver downgrade package and a how to downgrade guide here's the link... http://www.vaio-link.com/os/xp/downgrade/index.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons
but when I put in my info inorder to agree to conditions and to download the files it says it's wrong... can someone else try and report back if they were successful -
it doesn't work for me neither. but someone said they'll release xp drivers in first quarter of 2008. which is like... now?
-
-
Tried the drivers posted on the last page, I wasn't able to get the brightness control to work. However, it did add an OSD overlay for the volume control (now there is this cool little volume graphic).
-
Here are a few more hints:
* The WiFi NIC on these machines is NOT the Atheros NIC. It's an Intel NIC, so use those drivers. Posted a few pages ago.
* Anyone having trouble with the audio after following the driver pack method, go to Device Manager, look for a PCI driver that has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Let Windows install drivers for it by itself, that'll let the Realtek HD audio drivers work. -
Hi all,
Updated version of the backlight utility for VGN-NR110E and other related models. Thanks very much to Tux for his help. Download at:
http://rapidshare.com/files/89532709/backlight.zip.html
and do the following:
1) Run MemAccDrvSetup.exe to install the registered version of memaccess. You can install over the unregistered version from before if you installed the previous backlight utility.
2) Install the visual c files if necessary: run vcredist_x86.exe
3) Run backlight.exe. No config file is necessary. Use WIN-F5 to decrease brightness, and WIN-F6 to increase brightness.
Cheers - Paul AC Chang -
One thing I noticed though. I wanted to put backlight.exe in my HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run and I noticed that when it start, by default it goes to half brightness. Can the tool still accept a command line argument for the brightness setting?
WIN-F5/F6 works great btw. Seems like there are 9 steps now! -
New link to updated updated version of backlight utility:
http://rapidshare.com/files/89539630/backlight111.zip.html
4) You can type backlight.exe x to initialize brightness level when first loading, where x = 1 is lowest and x = 9 is brightest.
Cheers,
Paul -
Once again you rock! This mod has to be stickied in the forum, I am sure everyone who posted in this thread is interested in this tool.
Bravo! -
Hi i have downgraded my vaio to xp and it works perfect.. but i have notice that when i put a dvd it looks terrible , like dark and pixelated... no one know why??
-
Hey everyone, I know this is a thread for XP but I have the same machine (Vaio VGN-NR110E/S) running vista and I can't get the my display to its full-size. What do I do????? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
Reinstall or upgrade the graphics driver.
-
Hello everyone,
Really interesting stuff! Honestly I'm really impressed with everyone's ingenuity and commitment. However, I'm a little confused on how to get XP installed on my Vista laptop. I will be purchasing the Vaio within the foreseeable future.
If anyone can please post the necessary steps, perhaps in a guide of some sort with the working links inside of it. That would really make my year. If anyone can do this, or at least give me a hand with the process, that'd be wonderful.
Thanks everyone!!!
