In response to the issue I was having with the network card, I discovered that I had Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checked under Power Management on the network adapter settings.

I continued to have issues with my wireless card turning itself off. I thought that something was wrong with my laptop and reinstalled Vista so I could send it in to Sony. I found the recovery dvds on the bay if anyone needs them. Anyways, after reinstalling Vista I found out Sony had released an update to the bios to address this issue. I have Vista tuned down but, my performance still sucks in comparison to what it was with XP and I have 2 GBs of ram. One of the things I use this laptop for is to play WOW when I am away from home. I have only been getting 8-15 fps with everything on the lowest settings. I also get constantly disconnected. I had much better results with XP but, I am not sure what the fps was. I think I am going back to XP again.

Quick question, what sound driver did you use because every time i plug in my headphones in the headphone jack nothing happens, but Realtek Sound Manager says that the thing plugged in cannot be recognized and i have tried 4 different headphones.

    Thanks for your time,
    U of M

Actually my FPS is much higher with XP, 25-35 FPS. I also have 2 GBs of Ram. Vista is just brutal though, not worth using...

I don't mean to bring the thread back. I have followed all the directions and tried to downgrade vista to xp on my Sony vgn-nr110e. I just cant get past number 6 here.

    1. Download and install nLite from - http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
    2. Run NLite
    3. Select English and click next
    4. Place your original XP disc into the drive
    5. Click browse and locate the disc
    6. Choose a temporary directory (anywhere)

I get this error. " Unhanded exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quite, the application will close immediately."

This is after I select the dvd drive and choose to save the copy files anywhere on my computer like in document folder.

I have tried to install a older version of nLite and have tried deleting and reinstalling everything but nothing seems to work. I have also searched the web and not found anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Hello all,

Thank you to all the people who have put their hard work for us to get the clean install. I did it 4 months ago and am very happy with XP.

However, after upgrading to XP SP3 (which happened automatically), sometimes my wireless card is not detected, and other times it is. I have just have to keep rebooting until my laptop decides to recognize it. It will do it 1 in 4 restarts. Therefore, I am not sure if it is the SP3 upgrade or anything else.

Anybody else experience this, and have solved it?

    Thanks in advance

Hi. I do not know whether my topic is revelant but I'm hoping that it can be solved. I have installed the brightness apps that control the brightness of my vista downgraded laptop by using the windows and F5 and F6 keys. [I have a sony vaio vgn-nr110e]. When I go and launch a game [Halo 1] for instance, the brightness in the game is maximum brightness and I cannot control it with the windows and F5 and F6 keys. Does anyone have information about this kind of problem?

I had the same problems as you did with the stand by. But I found out that the problem was with the modem driver so i uninstalled it and disabled the modem (who uses a modem these days..) and standby worked again.
    Hope this helps.

also can someone post the source code for blacklight. i would like to add some features to this awesome tool.
    thanks.

I successfully followed these steps to get my CR120 to work on xp.
    thanks everyone.

I only had one difficulty: whenever i start backlight by just double clicking on it
it would freeze the whole computer. the program only works when i execute it with a brightness intensity parameter. So i created a shortcut to the exe and passed in a number from there. Now everything is working great except for av mode of course.

Has anyone modified the backlight program to listen to power line changes
and change the backlight intensity dynamicly? In other words when the power is on ac the brightness is at max and when no it goes to a number you set.

    thanks.

Crap, I installed one of the new Sony drivers (SOOOTH-41300000-XP.EXE) and my menu for volume control doesn't show up when I use the Fn + F2/3/4 keys anymore.

Anyone remember what driver brings that back?

I strong suggest you program backlight.exe as a service and could run before logon. And you could store the previous grey level in a file or registry
and you could reload it when backlight runs. thank you!

I realize I have a completely different model laptop than the ones being discussed here, but a Google search led me to this thread. I've wanted to "downgrade" to XP since I got this laptop, but from what I've seen, it may not be worth the headache. I'm kind of anal about having everything working correctly. Why does Sony have to be so great about their machines not being XP friendly?!?

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on installing XP on a VGN-FZ345E, let me know or maybe just point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any info!

Is this actually working on yours? I have the NR310e and could not get the brightness FN to work with the Sony drivers/software so I had to revert to backlight.exe, what is the correct installation procedure for the Sony Drivers?

It's been awhile, but still I need your help guys.
Everything works perfectly for me, except brightness control - dang!
Everytime I try to control brightness, my screen flickers. Yep, it gets dimmer, but this flickering drives me crazy, I can't use this tool because of that, too bad.
Also I get BSOD very often while using this tool... Maybe some problem with video drivers, I just don't know, have no idea.
Has anybody experienced this sort of problem? Other than that, everything is perfect. Please, help me!
