Can't say why that should or shouldn't work. I haven't tried creating a bootable stick. (There are some other threads with tips on that.)

If you have a cd burner I would suggest burn the ISO directly to disk, use that to boot and then load symchmos.exe from the stick.

With regards to a bootable USB stick here is a link to the HP Disk Storage Format Utility with the DOS system files. Works like a charm.

Have you looked at the master list? See the link in my signature below. I don't think that model is on the list BUT if you check the BIOS in your machine I am betting that the BIOS number is on the list.

The ones in the list are all quoted from posts in this thread. If you have a specific question about a paricular one, I suggest you find the original post in the thread and contact the person who wrote that post.

I am just trying to keep all the info compiled in a single spot.

    Gary

P.S. Also if you wouldn't mind, please edit your message and remove the copy of the list. I don't want to have the search engine pulling up partial copies latter as the "master" list is updated.

I don't think I saw this on the master list...

    Vaio VGN-AR 520E: Phoenix bios ver. R0032J8, vt-x register 0282.
    AHCI was enabled by default.

Confirmed from /proc/cpuinfo and by booting Ubuntu 64-bit cd in virtualbox.

    Three more successfully done:

    VGC-LA2 R0102W2 0198
    VGN-TZ21MN_N R0052N7 0363
    VGX-TP1E R1060W3 02C4

For sure I'm talking about Intel VT and all tokens had to be changed from 0000 to 0001.

At the begining I wasn't sure if I should do this. But everything worked fine and it only took about an hour for each vaio.

Thanx to everyone who helped working this out!!!

Hy guys, I was wondering if this is possible for other notebook brands. I have a Packard Bell Easynote SJ82 (nforce560 chipset, phoenix bios with no option for ahci/raid) with 2 hard drives running in IDE mode. I want to put them in RAID, or at least AHCI mode.

No clue. It might work, it might not, it migh brick your machine. You'll need to ask this elsewhere, this thread is only about Sony Vaio machines.

From what I understud from your topic problem comes down to the phoenix bios and finding the right registers in the NVRAM, similar succes has been reported on Acer laptops also (with phoenix bios of course). The reason I posted here was to find someone able to identify the magic registers and to extend the area of applicability of this brilliant solution.

I think, with the same BIOS version (whatever model) you can use the same reg(sorry if i was wrong)and all these models can update into R0230Q0 and R0231Q0.I've searched the net about the reg of these bios version that is 05B2 so I tried it on my CR11SH bios ver.R0220Q0 and it worked.

so that you can put VGN CR11SH bios R0220Q0 on your major list.

I assume you read all the warnings and instructions before you started. Right now as stated earlier in the thread, your machine is "bricked" and you have two options. One is to pull out the CMOS battery, which will require taking the machine apart. Let the machine sit for the specified period of time, (again spelled out earlier) and then reassemble, cross your fingers and hope. The other is to send it into Sony repair to have them reset the BIOS which they will charge you for. (No, I don't know how much.)

For anyone else reading this, let this be a warning to you. If you are going to attempt this, make ABSOLUTELY sure you know the correct register to change. Verify you have the same BIOS version not just a similar model number. As has been stated repeatedly in this thread none of us here can take any responsibility with what happens if you attempt this. You do so at your own risk and peril.

Gary, this is the reason I monitor this thread. I know that no one will ever be able to locate the register setting for my Vaio's BIOS because it is far too obscure outside of Japan, which means I won't ever try this. When my Vaio finally RIPs, I shall buy a non-Sony notebook that has VT Enabled. (Of course, if some one does have the BIOS code of the SZ90PS/Napa then let me know ;)

zii, if you tried one of the BIOS for the EU/North American versions it might work for you. Of course this is a risk to take and i cannot guarantee anything.
I changed my Sony TX BIOS to a BIOS that was used in Asia.
Other people have done similar things with other models.
You would need to find an exact match for your own model.

    > You would need to find an exact match for your own model.
This won't work because, as you wrote, you have to find an exact match for your model.

When you run the BIOS programme it will check the model number. If the model number does not match it won't install. The Japenese model numbers differ to the other numbers. I have tried this.

    Hello

Have someone successfully activated VT-x and AHCI on SZ1XP with R0083N0 Bios?
I don't really know how to do. There is no information on first page about R0083N0 Bios :(

I recently installed an SSD on my VAIO and the 4Ko random write aren't as good as on my desktop PC which has the same SSD. AHCI could help me to get better performance.

Are there any chance to activate the SATA 2 mode in the same way as for AHCI/VT-x? Because all SZ are limited to SATA 150MB/s, although the ICH7M chipset supports SATA 300MB/s.

    Thank you :notworthy:

I went to vaio support website and find out that there was a new BIOS for my SZ1. Strange I haven't seen it before. Isn't this bios for SZ3 Santa Rosa plateform only???

I will try with this token (page 23 by ScuderiaConchiglia)

    VGN-SZ3XP R0096N0 reg 0399

It only activates VT. Any idea how to do for AHCI or Sata 2?

    EDIT:
Ok it worked for VT. :D

But I have no idea how to do for AHCI and SATA 2. There are over 400 lines in the txt file, it would take too long (and dangerous) to test them all :/

Using the same register as the post you quoted from, who knows? No way for us to predict. The only way to do this is to go back to the beginning of the thread and use the procedures outlined there to try to find the proper register yourself. Sorry, but until someone tries this on a BIOS not already on the master list, there is no way to tell you if it will work or what register to use.
