    Hello Forum,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N31L that originally came with Windows Vista and now has a brand new hard drive without anything on it.

I would like to install Windows XP on it. Is that possible, and how? If it's not possible, can I install Windows 7 or 8 on it, or do I have to install Windows Vista?

I don't have any of the original disks that came with this machine and I do not have Windows Vista. I do have XP, 7, and 8.

The computer was originally purchased in Germany; however, I live in the US now and would like to install an English system on it.

    Thanks!

Put any Windows installation disc of your choice to DVD drive and boot from it to install. Just follow on screen instructions and use your product key to enter during install.
However, you should go to bios first by pressing F2 during power on to select which drive you want to boot first.

Might as well just go with windows 7 or 8 (or linux) as Microsoft is ending all support and updates for XP in April 2014.
