    Dears,

I am trying to install the new Nvidia update 301.42 on my Vaio VGN-Z790 but with no hope. I tried everything on the net but nothing is working. I am not able to find out which file i have to patch exactly and with what commands. Could you please help me out there.

my hardware Ids are the following:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_06E5&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_06E5
    PCI\VEN_10DE&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&CC_0300
    PCI\VEN_10DE
    PCI\CC_030000
    PCI\CC_0300

these hardware Ids I got after i tried an unsuccessful installation. is this correct?

    Thanks,

You should note down the hardware IDs from your original, working driver that came with the laptop. Those are the ones that you can be sure of.

Happy to see you cool guy,

I tried modded infs of laptopvideo2go all but couldn't success.I wanna share with you something. Modded infs are successful on 32bit win8 ent but dont work with 64 bit win8 ent. If I install the driver of nvidia in offical website first then run modded inf last version it s ok. But in 64 bit version cant make anything. (No 64 bit driver on sony web page)

My vaio is VGN-SZ640 with Nvidia Geforce 8400m gs (It s switchable with stamina speed button) But I always use in speed mode.
    Hardware ID is here.
    My hardware Id is:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&SUBSYS_9008104D&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&SUBSYS_9008104D
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&CC_0300

I ll be very happy if i can use my lappy with 64 bit.But couldnt find any drivers.Waiting your help.

    Best Regards.

I really tried to build my inf setup.
But I didn't have success in my job! :nah:

Anyone help me to build the nvszc.inf for my Vaio VPCCW21FX with Nvidia GeForce 310M ?

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A75&SUBSYS_9072104D&REV_A2
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A75&SUBSYS_9072104D
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A75&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A75&CC_0300

I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 RTM and I tried to use the last nvidia version 306.97 or 9.18.13.0697

I don't know why Sony says this laptop don't support Win8!

    Thanks

I got to install nvidia version 306.97 in my laptop SONY VAIO VPCCW21FX.
I did some changes in nvszc.inf and initialized Windows 8 with special boot to accept unsigned drivers.
I can adjust the screen brightness in Power Options, but I can't manage by FN+F5/F6.
    The others FN are working.

The original nvidia driver by Sony, these keys work successfully, but the desktop background freezes sometimes when I switch between Metro & desktop.

Anyone knows what I need to change in INF file to VAIO Control Center v4.1.1 get to adjust the brightness ?

I don't know how I can upload this INF.

I thought i had to do this with my Vaio 15s from this summer, with Win 7.
But i tried just doing a normal NVIDIA update of the drivers and it worked like a charm.
I'm not sure if NVIDIA have changed something so its possible to update SONY laptops without having to mod or download altered updates via SONY's homepage.
But i had no problem at least doing this. And i didn't have any modified drivers. Just the ones shipped with the laptop.

Just open the inf wth Notepad and see whether it contains details of Sony models. If not, try the other infs one by one.

Hi all, I think you have to edit the nvam.inf instead. And for Win8 add your device id here [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.2] in the format

    %NVIDIA_DEV.[your device id]% = Section072, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_[your device id]

So For PinkNoise it would be

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0427% = Section072, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427

Try and see if this works

    coolguy,
Can you explain us which config I need to copy to manage the screen brightness by FN Keys ?

I modded these parameters, the autodim and brightness control, but it is not working as the original sony driver.

    HKR,,DDIBacklightControl,%REG_DWORD%,0x00000001
    HKR,,EnableBrightnessControl,%REG_DWORD%,0x2

Do you know if we need a new key setting software for these features ?

    For everyone,
To install the modded INF, you need to restart Windows with special boot.
Google how you can boot with unsigned driver for Windows 8.

    Thanks,
    Sushi

You only need this for your GPU " HKR,,EnableBrightnessControl,%REG_DWORD%,0x2".

You could delete the entry in the registry in this path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000"
Try changing the EnableBrightnessControl entry to 1 and see if it works.

Can you post the nvszf INF from the 306.97 driver? I can make a modded INF for you.

@Cool Guy: I am using sony vaio CW26FG for the past 3 years. Last time I successfully modded and force installed Nvidia driver to play NFS Run. After that I went for a clean installation due to some reasons. Now that NFS MW is out again I tried installing the nvidia drivers from website but did not succeed in modding the inf file and hence could not complete the installation.

I would be highly grateful if you could please make the modded inf file for my system. My system has a Nvidia GT 330M card. I wouldn't have been asking you if I could make it work this time.

    Thanks in advance.

    Update:

Have manged to mod it again, installing NFS MW 2012 again to see if it works now or not. Thanks for the tutorial though. Will let you know if i still want you to mod the file for me.

I have a VPCCW21FX with this same hardwareID.
Follow my mod INF from nvidia 306.97
Start Windows 8 with special boot to accept unsigned driver.
This INF works everything except FN5/FN6. You can change the brightness by Windows control. I use WinX+B (Windows Mobile Center) or right click in Battery icontray to access the adjust screen brightness

I couldn't get to do these Keys (screen brightness) work in Windows 8 yet.

Er. yes. Then go back up to the main folder and run setup from there, not from the display driver folder where you put the inf.

Try uninstalling whatever driver Windows 8 has installed for you and get back to Microsoft Basic adapter. Now try to install the new driver. (Remember: a modded driver will be unsigned (at least the inf will be unsigned), so you'll also need to disable driver signature enforcement before installing the driver. After the driver is installed it will work even with driver signature enforcement).

I thought Nvidia was able to directly support Sony's notebooks now? Why the heck does Sony block this? (If they do?)

Hi, could you please tell me what should I do to get my driver work in windows 8 pro x64?

I have a GeForce GT 230M graphics card with Device ID:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2A&SUBSYS_905E104D&REV_A2
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2A&SUBSYS_905E104D
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2A&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2A&CC_0300

In windows 7, I modified nvam.inf and added 2 lines in the first two large paragraphs, and one line at the ending huge paragraph of the file containing the models. Also, I added a line to ListDevices.txt. However, I cannot do the same thing in windows 8 pro and it does not work. I would be grateful if you could help me with this.
