No, I made a mistake. I don't have the driver either.

My camera freezes up when running on battery power (both skype and normal use) does anyone else get the same problem? how did you solve it
Alsom, I got the WWAN working now, you need to download the drivers for the Novatel Expedite EV-DO Modem. I cant remember were I downloaded it from but if someone needs it I can send you the zip file (0.98MB) just let me know.
Only thing now is the Secondary IDE -
i realize no one can get the "secondary ide" working, but WHAT exactly is the secondary IDE? And why don't you just disable it if it's so useless??
-
Why didn't anyone realize that Sony released ALL drivers for xp in tab INSTALL NEW OPERATING SYSTEM
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ670N&LOC=3
change operating system dropdown to XP.
Problem I'm having is that when hibernating system BSOD with nv4.sys mentioned. -
I used drivers from there and the only thing I a "?" in device manager is the Secondary IDE Channel, Mass Storage Controller, and a non-working FN-Brightness key under Stamina mode. The fingerprint software doesn't work either-I have to use the TZ XP downgrade ftp download for it to work. -
2) Mass Storage: Did you install the TI FlashMedia driver?
3) So after using the TZ driver, does fingerprint work? -
2) I have not; do you have a link?
3) Yeah, the fingerprint works with the TZ driver.
Now we just have to get the FN-brightness working under Stamina. I'm guessing it has to do with the Intel GFX drivers. FN-brightness under Speed mode works with Sony's nVidia driver, but it doesn't work with drivers from laptopvideo2go. -
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ670N
There's also a TI driver registry patch. Anyone know what that's for? -
-
The new update for the fingerprint software at Sony's site works now.
Can anyone provide the Vista Intel GFX driver? It should be located in the Windows folder under a folder named "DRIVERS" (If I recall correctly). I want to try installing that on XP to see if the FN-brightness keys will work. -
Uninstalled a non-Sony PSQL v5.6.2.3513 and installed the Sony one. Didn't notice any difference in functionality. Oh well. -
-
Oh yeah, I remember that missing memory icon; it was irritating to see. There was also two memory icons; now, I have one.
-
When I try to install the patch it gives me an error saying that the applications is not an Win32 application. Did you get this error?
-
Worked fine for me. Incomplete download?
-
It's been a long wait, finally Sony's OFFICIAL XP DRIVERS for the 6xx all here:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/XPDOWNGRADE/SZ6/
Have fun,
D. -
Thanks for the info. There seems to be a BIOS update in the SZ6 Utilities package, version R0101S5 and dated September 5, 2007. Maybe this will fix the two remaining problems the SZ6 has in XP: the fn brightness control issue in Stamina mode and the Secondary IDE error in Device Manager. Anyone willing to test?
-
double post
-
The Intel GFX driver in that official SZ6xx driver package does not fix the FN-brightness controls.
-
The brightness function didn't work when I used 163.71 Team Fortress 2 nVidia drivers from laptopvideo2go.
Can someone test out the black screen after hibernation issue. I don't remember if that was the way to make the screen not work, but it had something to do with resuming the notebook from an off state. -
After instaling BIOS update I can change brightness using FN keys in stamina mode too. Finally, everything works fine.
You may want to reinstall Sony notebook utilities. -
BIOS Update R0082S5
This update resolves the issue of Fn+F5/F6 (brightness control) not working properly after lid close/open in STAMINA mode
Thats copypasted directly from the installation logs.
So with that everything should be in working condition right? -
Other than that any help people can give for finding XP drivers for a VGN-SZ61WN/C would be greatly appreciated -
My SZ61WN runs XP with the latest driver package.
The camera often hangs (applications which are using camera often hangs.. skype, msn etc) , and I can't find any solution about that.
I finally decided to disable the cam in the device manager.
I am interested in any information about that,

My problem is with yukon ethernet controller. In device manager it is not listed! (neither as installed nor 'not working properly' sign). I installed network driver from esupport http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNSZ640&upd_id=3058&os_id=7 but it didn't work. I can't install the driver from ftp page because in device manager ethernet card isn't listed so i can't just click on the device (not listed rghhh!!) and say 'update driver'. Does someone have a solution.
Brightness Fn keys are the same for me, they don't work in stamina mode. -
Confirmed the R0101S5 bios update for SZ94S (SZ6) fixes the stamina (intel) Fn Brightness control and secondary IDE controller. Good to see Sony has followed up support for XP. Moving to dual-boot Pre-installed Vista and WINXP JP with the newly released drivers and applications.

Hi All, just wanted to check, can anyone confirm the latest version of the bios for sz6. I currently have r0080s5, on the ftp xp driver site the bios posted is r0101s5. So which one is the newer one?
-
-
THANK YOU Sony! its as if someone up there was reading this thread or somethin..
everything working A-OK. -
i just installed the r0101s5 bios and yes the (stamina mode) brightness controls work now.
BUT the setting doesn't seem to save. Whenever i restart, the brightness defaults to the highest setting.
Any ideas?
Thanks -
-
so the XP downgrade is complete now? -
-
Can someone give me a step by step to install WIndows XP on my Sony Vaio SZ-640? After installing the basic drivers, I still have 2 yellow exclamation points on seconday and one under the network. How can I make the buttons on the top to control the brightness and volume etc?
-
thanks a lot! -
-
Thanks alot. -
They're numbered, so install them in that order except install BIOS first, then the drivers, then the utilities. -
btw does the wireless switching utility (fn+f1 work?)
-
after bios update from the ftp link Yukon LAN card worked.
-
For those with a european SZ61 I found the XP downgrade drivers/utils from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ691N®ion_id=1 worked fine (this model is a VGN-SZ61WN/C), brightness switching and WWAN working fine including using a Vodafone SIM instead of T-Mobile via the generic Globetrotter HSDPA front end.
For those too lazy to click a billion links I've zipped up everything here (490Mb file), although if you prefer you can obviously still get them individually from the Sony site -
Nice work! That just leaves me one sz short. 5 business days my ass.. ><
-
Thanks. -
There's a install.bat file along with the other files for the Sony image filter driver, just double click it.
For the TPM, you have 2 choices. You can install from device manager - right click unknown device with a yellow arrow and say update driver, and manually browse to the folder where the tpm drivers files are. It will install. Alternatively you can double click the ifxtpm.inf file but the first way is preferred.
My Vista XP Dual Boot Guide -
I did a alternative to doing a fresh install of Windows XP.
I used a factory state norton ghost image of a my old SZ1 (SZ90PS) with Sony Windows XP Pro on my SZ6 (SZ94S) and surprisingly it worked.
Of course most of the new devices didn`t work until the updated drivers were installed. You end up with a semi clean Windows XP and can reuse you old Sony WinXP licence and get offical updates (I can`t get Sony XP Downgrade disc as i have Vista Home)
You can even install some of the sony bloatware (yes there is maybe some useful programs there) from your Sony Vista application recovery disc onto WinXP when it ask for the disc after the intial win setup phase. Of course there was some installation errors. Some fixes here and there and MBR boot loader added for Vista and i had dual-boot with windows XP first.
Before i did all the above i moved Vista to a next partition. So far no problems. Sony Windows XP working fine and Sony Windows Vista didn`t seem to mind being moved partition and just rearranged itself to work from the new partition after some quick recovery checks -
unknow drive, sound and 2. ide dont work
download sony.com but not working everthing -
Please help - I really would like to get my Sprint working on XP - my boss is leaving shortly and I haven't found a solution to this - I called Sony and they said he couldn't find anything.
