Just wanted to thank you cowboy! This forum along with the how to hack, and how to install 8.1, have been a lifesaver (or shall I say a laptop saver) I love my z12 too. I really don't know what what I will get to replace this guy.
Also, ya. It sucks the Quaddro doesn't work properly. It did feel smoother I have to say. oh well. I'm still happy with what I have right now, and with your updates!
Great work!

I have looked into patching the Quadro drivers and I may do it if I find the time.
I appreciate the feedback. Feedback is what keeps this thing going right now. I haven't even had the time to install any new drivers for a while last ones I put on my machine were 331.65. -
Thanksn for the effort, CC.

Are you running as an administrator?
-
Yes i do, my account hast admin rights. I also start the patcher with admin rights (mous rightklick on .exe)
-
Maybe we can take a look together with TeamViewer sometime.
That is very odd.
What directory are you running it from? -
C:\Users\Christian\Desktop\VAIO_Z1_330M_INF_Patcher.exe.v4.7
Teamviewer session would be ok, though it would be Monday when i have time for that. I'm from Europe btw. -
create a new directory like "C:\VaioPatch" and put the files in there. Then go to the security properties for said folder and put full read/write access on for your account. I think there are some permissions issues on your desktop that are causing a problem.
-
You might need to disable UAC. Don't worry, you can turn it back on after the installation is done.
-
i did CCs and anytimer's hint, but nothing changed so far.
-
that is slightly vague, do you mean that you moved the files and changed the permissions and the behavior was the same as before?
-
sadly yes.
-
Just writing to say thanks cowboy! I was able to install 2014 MARCH drivers on my windows 8.1 so that my displaylink drivers would make my VGA adapter work with my VPCZ117GG laptop and not cause problems. I run a 3 screen setup. laptop in middle and 2 external monitors. 1 HDMI and 1 VGA connected in the USB adapter. before this hack, I was limping around with 2010 drivers!! This saved my laptop and will make sure I keep it a few more years. Nothing else comes close to this beast. Thanks man!!

Hi everyone,
I'm having a little trouble getting my second screen to be picked up using HDMI. Here's what I have done so far.
Hacked the bios -> changed vga switching policy to static -> opened the patcher (as administrator) -> enable test -> restarted -> installed 3d patch -> installed nvidia driver (334.89, it passed the comparability test that it was failing previously).
There were no error messages, everything seemed to have run fine. When I right click and enter the nvidia control panel it says "334.89" so it looks like the drivers were installed correctly. however, when I right click and go to "screen resolution" to look for the other screen it doesn't seem to find it. I have it plugged in with the hdmi cable. I have tried the 3d patch as well as the vga patch.
If anyone has any idea how I can proceed to fixing this I would greatly appreciate it. If there is any other information necessary to help with this I would gladly provide that as well.
Here is some more info about the system:
sony vaio vpcz1390x (is a vpcz1 series)
has the 330m nvidia graphics card
just installed fresh windows 8.1
Again, if anyone can help with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advanced! -
Make sure you reboot the computer with the switch on SPEED. Only then it would work! Then never move that sucker unless you are going mobile. -
It's been in the speed position but still doesn't work. I've rebooted multiple times and tried reinstalling the patch but still doesn't seem to help. Thanks for the suggestion though, if you have any more I'd really appreciate all the help I can get or I'll have to go back to Windows 7
-
I keep getting not compatible hardware error.. I don't know why
EDIT: I realized that when patching it says "Patch complete, 0 lines patched"
What I have done - version 331.65 installed when bios was hacked, now downloaded new patcher and get the above message with the patcher and when trying to install the nvidia driver it says could not find compatible hardware -
When installing should I be in stamina or speed?
-
For me the HDMI works with the VGA patch and the 334.89 drivers.
Speed. -
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I really appreciate your responses. I haven't though been able to get it to work. I tried redoing everything with the vga patch as well but unfortunately did not change the results. If anyone can go through the steps I listed (post 564) to see if they can see any errors, I would greatly appreciate it. Or any other suggestions for that matter. Thanks again in advanced.

I am running version 335.23 driver for my 330M. Just get it from NVIDIA website. There is an order. If you first try to install the NVIDIA drivers it wont work! You need to first do the VGA PATCH and then the 3D and finally the NVIDIA drivers! FInally make sure you are running cowboy's latest patch which I believe is this month's patch. I have all working. 3 monitor setting even with displaylink drivers, that everyone knows SUCKS
make sure you go to the BIOS again and check to see if the display switch INDEED is in STATIC. Then go into your computer and take OFF all drivers and do delete the driver files so it gets all messed up with mesed up resolution. and then istall again with patch and everythng. but before doing this make sure you toggle the signature vertification to OFF so the driver can be installed. IF NOT, it wont do it. -
True, try to uninstall the drivers and then use something like Driver Fusion to completely delete everything (with Windows in safe mode), then reinstall the patched drivers.
-
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm gonna try all these things out when I get a chance this week, will let you know if it goes well.
Again, thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it -
Hey guys, so I had some time this weekend to try reinstalling the patch and drivers but still no success connecting to my tv. I reinstalled windows 8.1 from scratch to ensure that there were no previous drivers on there. Here are my steps in case you guys can see anything I did wrong.
-install fresh windows 8.1 after formatting hard drive.
-checked bios to make sure it is in "static" position.
-restarted windows with driver signature disabled (did this by settings -> recovery ->troubleshoot -> advanced options -> startup options -> disable driver signature enforecment)
-opened patch and enabled test mode (caused to restart)
-restarted again manually to disable driver signature enforcement again (windows 8 requires to do this every time restarted)
-installed VGA patch
-installed 3d patch
-installed most recent drivers (335.23)
-disabled test mode
-restarted computer
If anyone gets a chance, please take a look over my steps to see if I'm missing anything, I think I did everything right and in order so please let me know if you have any other suggestions. Also, I used the instructions here ( How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8.1 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)) to disable the driver signature, please let me know if this is the correct way of approaching that.
Like usual, I'd appreciate any suggestions or thoughts that may help me. Thank you guys for already throwing some ideas out, I really appreciate it. -
I might be wrong, but as soon as you enable the test mode from the patcher and restart you should be good to go, no need to restart 3 times. You will be prompted to continue installing unsigned drivers during the installation and that's it.
The two patches are mutually exclusive. Only the last one that you select will be installed, so in this case ONLY the 3D patch will be installed but not the VGA. I cannot say for the 3D patch, but in my case the HDMI works with the VGA patch.
Bottom line, if you are able to install the drivers means that the part about test mode, signature enforcement, etc. is correct. The problem might lie in the patch. Try applying ONLY the VGA patch and then install the drivers. -
thanks for the quick response. I restarted one more time between enabling test mode and installing the patch and drivers because from what I understand, every time windows 8 restarts, the driver signature enforcement gets re-enabled. So just to make sure I disable them again right before installing the patches and drivers.
I'll give just installing the vga patch a try this upcoming weekend though.
Thanks again for the advice. If you or anyone else has any suggestions that would be great and I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks again in advance -
Confirmed working for latest 337.50 drivers.
Used the VGA patch in Test Mode, restarted. Zero issues. -
@CC
just wanted to let you know that the update worked after updating to Win 8.1 SP1. Thankfully. -
Wow, awesome thread! I was seeking to update drivers after my computer started overheating and shutting down. I got everything working, patched my BIOS manually (the one on your site did not work), patched the latest 335.23 drivers and installed.
HDMI out is working, brightness from charms bar (not f5/f6). Geforce Experience software does not work, it does not detect the 330M.
My main issue of overheating is still an issue, frequently hitting 90degC in regular operation. I guess I have to take the thing apart. -
So turns out that my hdmi wire coincidentally went out right around the same time I installed windows 8 all your suggestions in the past work, I just didn't no they did because my wire was down. So...thank you everyone for your help and suggestions, thanks OP for an awesome thread and patch, everything is back to normal
-
I had a great improvement just by using a compressed air can on the vent. If you are able to take the Z apart is obviously much better but for me the temperature went down a good 10 degrees.
-
I will have to try that. I opened it up and vacuumed everything I could, but I will try compressed air when I get a chance in case something is lodged.
A feature I like is that CUVID works (GPU acceleration in MPC-HC)! I was not able to get it working with the older Andrew08 patched drivers. -
Owesome!
that problem troubled me lone time and now it solved finally.
Thank you very much from mainland China. -
I'm curious if anyone has had success with HDMI audio working?
-
It has wrorked for me in the past, haven't used it in quite some time.
-Jeff -
Same here, I never had any problem with HDMI and audio using the VGA patch.
-
It's been hit or miss for me. It works on my LG TVs but not on my old Westinghouse TV or some of the crappy hotel TVs I've come across.
-
I decided to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bits on my old Vaio VGN-Z570N. It still had Vista Business on it (which came pre-installed).
Now, of course, I'm having problems with the discrete graphics. After countless hours of reading these forums, I came to the conclusion that, in order to enable the nVidia GeForce 9300M GS GPU, I would have to mod the BIOS and lose the switchable function, which I'm fine with. There are no customized hybrid graphics drivers for Windows 8.1, correct?
I followed the procedure mentioned on this thread, but I'm getting an "Invalid VSS signature" when trying to run advanced_menu.py. It is mentioned that I should find my VSS offset if such error occurs, but I have no idea how to this or modify the script with the correct values. Can anyone help me?
My current BIOS is INSYDE R2171M3, 10/11/2009 (the latest version available). -
I think the thread you linked is for the VPC-Z only and not the VGN-Z.
-
@ComputerCowboy I have clean installed Windows 8.1 64bit. But now when I open the patcher the logo comes and it shows it has stopped working. pls help!!!
-
I'm having the same problem
each time I run the application, it crashes as soon as the logo comes up.
Does anybody know what's going on? -
Can anyone please help???
-
Hi
I have bios patch and static setting, speed mode switch
test mode on
win7 64bit
tried 337.50 and 334.89
I always get "0 lines patched" in both 3d and vga patches and drivers wont install, I still use original vaio drivers, is the first time I try a newer driver, is there anything to do before that?
edit: Solved, I didn't download the notebook version of drivers -
Does it work with 337.50?
-
It doesn't matter anyway. Patched and installed today 340.52 and everything so far so good. Patched BIOS and graphic set to Static.
Version is NVIDIA 9.18.13.4052 and date 2 July 2014.
Filename is 340.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe -
Hmm, the site appears to be suspended, is it going to come back up or is there a chance you can upload the exe to an alternative website?
-
My CC expired
I'm working on fixing it now -
All working now, thanks, much appreciated.
-
no problem
I should have been on top of it -
Just wanted to update everyone. 340.52 works.. Keep going. Just wish the geforce experience would work. it works for 400, but not 300
