I don't think so. At least on my computer, it's set to use the Balanced power profile for the CPU in both Speed and Stamina mode.

Hmm.. on my computer, changing the position of the switch changes the selected plan automatically. Balanced for auto and high performance for speed.

Can you try and reproduce? With the mains adapter plugged in, run idle for a while with the switch set to auto and then repeat with the switch set to speed, and see if the temperatures are different. I'm currently running Windows 8 RP, so you'll have to validate all my findings and postulations for Windows 7.

The triangle switch only works to change the Windows power mode when you have the Sony hybrid graphics drivers installed. Also, while on Speed, if you change it to Balanced it should stay at balanced next time you switch to Speed mode.

arshadyp, what are the graphics cards and hardware IDs for the cards?

    e.g
    NVIDIA GeForce 330M
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2B

    Intel HD graphics
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046

namaiki: he has a VGN-Z591U. It has NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS / Intel GMA 4500MHD.

I have tried again and again to get members to put their hardware details in their signatures, with very limited success. Most of the time we don't know these details and have to Google for them.

In that case, I guess the latest is still the Forceware 263.08 in the first post for the VGN-Z.

The download links in the first post need to be repaired. Many file sharing sites have closed down or changed their sharing policies. Is there a good site that's likely to stay alive?

Ouch... I think mediafire might be okay.

If anyone wants a quick fix, I think these are probably the best drivers (both links go to the same Dell Forceware 263.08 driver):
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...oductCode=alienware-m11x&urlProductCode=False
    http://downloads.dell.com/video/NVIDIA_GEFORCE-GT335M_A02_R297688.exe

Download that, open it and let it extract and then just change the hardware IDs in the inf file (C:\dell\drivers\R297688\Display.Driver\NVCADM.INF):

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0a2b.01% = Section008, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_ 0a2b
    %iCNTG0.0% = iCNT0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_ 2A42

(for laptops with Intel HD graphics, don't change the Intel hardware ID. Let it just install only the newer nVIDIA portion over the original Sony graphics drivers.)

namaiki: are these drivers you linked to for optimus on hybrid graphics or regular hybrid graphics? Information on the Dell the site suggests they are plain optimus for nVidia 335M.

These are just hybrid graphics drivers. The Alienware M11x R1 doesn't have Optimus, just manual switching.

Here is a repost of the torrent file I created. There are several seeders keeping these drivers (Nvidia 26314 - Intel 2266 signed.rar, 173.77 MB) available for everyone.

Edit: Note that these drivers are for the VPCZ1 in a hybrid setup (no modified BIOS nor any optimus drivers)

Very kind of you, schimmel23. :)

arshadyp: note that these drivers are not for you. They are for VPCZ1. Go through the posts above and see if someone has reposted the drivers for VGN series. Do you want 64 bit or 32 bit?

Please edit your signature so that we are instantly aware of what you have in your system. You too, schimmel23.

Yes, you can, but to do that you have to hack your BIOS, change the switching mode to static, and then you can set the switch to speed and reboot. To use the Intel graphics, set the switch to stamina and reboot. There are two threads about hacking the BIOS. Read those carefully and decide if you want to do this.

(Please note: I have a VPCZ1, so what I'm saying might not apply to your VGN-Z. I suggest you wait until someone with a VGN-Z like yours replies in this thread.)

I've got a Sony Vaio VPCZ13M9E/B and because Sony didn't upgrade their drivers I can't play the following games:

    • Need For Speed The Run
    • Rage

The error I get is as follows:

    Please update NVIDIA driver
Detected NVIDIA Geforce Driver version 190.24. The recommended driver version is 285.38. Please update drivers at http://www.geforce.com/drivers before playing the game

    nvidia_geforce_driver.jpg

    Any updated drivers?

What do you mean, that if I don't do the the first (BIOS hacking) I may brick my computer?

Doing the first step as well wouldn't care if I mess with speed mode button isn't it?

It won't brick. However, the software won't let you go back into Speed mode unless you uninstall and reinstall. The BIOS hack does a different way of switching graphics cards that requires a restart of Windows instead of immediately.

Perhaps you can switch back if you do some Windows registry hackery but I can't recall at the moment..

So a safe thing to do is backup the original BIOS (with the advanced_menu.py script and keep a copy) and a backup of the original graphic drivers (190.24) with some pc software. In case I am not satisfied with this alternative version I could go back to normal.

For the hacked BIOS, with it's default settings it will act like the stock BIOS.
Original BIOS (requires Windows to flash): Sony eSupport - VPCZ13KGX/X - Drivers & Software

I've done the BIOS hack and it was working well, but I installed the old drivers so I can switch at the flick of a button.

...or you could run your laptop in optimus on hybrid graphics mode. This has two main disadvantages:
    1. no HDMI.
    2. increased power consumption -> battery discharges a little faster.
    3. Automatic switching is a little buggy, but usable.

    Advantages:
    1. No BIOS hacks needed.
    2. Latest drivers, both nVidia and Intel.

    To do this you'll need
    1. latest nVidia and Intel drivers (duh!)
    2. NFR (nasty file remover) or driversweeper.
    3. your display adapter's hardware IDs, or a modded inf.

Well, I've followed the steps, basically formatted a pendrive in FAT format, installed FreeDOS 1.0 on it and copied FLASHZ1.EXE there but, the keyboard doesn't work, even more, if touching a key acts like blocking the computer and the countdown stops at that precise moment. On the other hand, if I don't touch anything the two countdowns go back and enter the E:> symbol or whatever letter it is, but entering any letter results that the computer gets blocked and 100% CPU usage, the fan goes at full speed. I think will try original DOS and see.

EDITED: now it worked with real DOS. For those having issues try original DOS instead:

How to Create a bootable USB Memory Key

    Worked like a charm.

So what's the problem, the Vaio Z2 doesn't have official updates for drivers or something? I with Sony had better afterbuy support, because the Vaio Z and MacBook Pro Retina are the best notebooks for me at this moment.

The original Sony drivers are the ones that provide hybrid drivers, is when you use this patched driver when you are always is Speed mode. Why are you requesting it for the Z2?

Well, after trying the patched 285.38 version of nvidia drivers for VPCZ1 I've been experiencing stoppages on youtube videos, so went back to the original NVIDIA_Graphics_Driver_8.16.11.9024_x64.zip and only install the newest ones when I need them to play a game or such.

Thank you very much for your help, Paloseco!

I was refering to the hybrid drivers. The ones from andrew08 for VGN-Z. Your link is for the standard nvidia drivers, if I am not mistaken.

I know, but I am not asking for that. I am asking for (also in the first page):
    263.08 (8.17.12.6308) 2020 (8.15.10.2020) Windows 7 & Windows Vista 64bit Download *Signed (read before installing) Andrew08 (post #2512)

The link for that download is NOTICE And as you can imagine it is not working.

Andrew08 has the file but can't upload it now (slow connection).
I quote him:"More than 700k people downloaded my files. Megaupload is down. I am not able to upload at the moment. please provide mirrors. Thanks."

So if anybody knows of an alternative host to download it, or is so kind as to upload it again, I would be most thankful.

IIRC the file you want has been reposted by someone in this very thread. Work backwards through the pages until you find the post. Please link to that post here so that we can request the admins to pin it for future use.

Sorry I can't be of more help - I only have the VPCZ1 x64 files.

Hey all, I feel bad for being another to ask for file links, but here's my issue.

Running a VPC-Z1190X and so far none of the links I've found on this thread for the most up to date community drivers are either dead or don't work for me. Anyone have one that is known to get the Nvidia 26314 - Intel 2281 signed drivers for a 64bit PC? I got one download that worked from some french language site but 7zip cannot extract the files for some reason :(

    Thanks in advance

I have a VGN-Z590 and I'm running Windows 7, 32 bit. I've flashed my bios to enable the advanced menus, but when I set the graphics switching to static and reboot in Speed mode, my screen displays mostly solid white with vertical lines and is completely undiscernable. It will load into the Bios screen and into windows if I let it run like that but the screen never recovers. I've memorized the bios keystrokes to load defaults which I've used to recover back into Auto switching mode to get my screen back.

The whole reason I've been looking for newer drivers is to hopefully fix issues I've been having with the Speed mode. Once booted (in Auto graphics bios mode) it will run windows fine but any games or 3D apps seem to run for only about 30 seconds or so before BSODing. Also every 3rd or 4th time when loading windows, it will BSOD part way into the animated windows logo on startup.

I'm thinking I'm probably experiencing a hardware failure on the Nvidia card, but if anyone else has had the static switching issue or similar issues I'd love to hear your thoughts...

What would my options be for upgrading to a newer 32bit Nvidia driver without doing the static switching?

I have a VGN Z570N and I have been able to get every other, device in my OC work flawlessly except for my HDMI output. I have 8GB RAM with 240GB sandisk SSD and installed the latest NVIDIA update for WIN 7 64BIT. I used the VGN Z620 Drivers and have also tried some other drivers I found online through google. nothing seems to work. my PC recognizes the TV and even lists its proper name but I can neither hear nor see anything on the TV while cloning, extending or making the TV the primary screen. If someone could give me a detailed walk through a fix I would greatly appreciate

Hi, I have VPCZ136GG Laptop, I got it from Asia(India).

I have Nvidia 330 M with driver version 190.24. Now I wanted to update my driver so I can Play Fifa 13.

So i saw this forum, but It seems like there are so many methods and I'm confused now.

So can Anyone guide me as to which method I should use ? I don't want to try without asking someone , because of the fear I may brick my computer.

Thanks in Advance and Please someone reply guys .

    Rejin

Hello! I have the same problem as rejinjames's. My laptop model is VPCZ128GG and it is running on official driver version 8.16.11.9024 (nvidia = 190.24, intel = 2021).

I am so frustrated that my FIFA 13 didn't run because of the annoying hybrid graphics driver.

Knowing that I can't simply update it the traditional way. But the solutions in this forum scare the hell out of me.

    Now, I have a few questions :
(Sorry if you guys have answered them before as it is killing me to go through all the replies)

    (1) Is the method posted by Nautis a standard way to make my own hybrid drivers? Is it just a matter of luck? I would like to make my own with the latest drivers from nvidia and intel. Still apply?

    (2) What if I give up the hybrid nature? Can I just install the latest nvidia drivers instead?

    (3) Is there any download-and-install solutions?

    (4) Can I go back If something is going wrong?

    Thanks if anyone can help.
