After much ado and not being able to reinstall 2266, I've just reinstalled the factory driver from Sony and it seems to work much better on windows 8.1 than it did on Windows 8. Very little graphical tearing when switching between modern UI and desktop. Also - I can finally play videos on the Netflix App because it is a signed driver. Woo!

I tried the same thing, but the hybrid graphics functionality doesn't work, and I can't output anything through my HDMI port. Is the HDMI working for you?

When I run the installer from Sony eSupport - VGN-Z530N - Drivers & Software, it starts running, nothing seems to happen with the screen. But I get no errors, and it asks me to restart my computer. However, nothing seems to change. Am I missing something?

I also have problems with the PMD HDMI port, and the (AMD Radeon Hybrid is blocked because drivers can't load. I don't have solutions, just letting you guys know I'm interested in whatever answers you find :)

    Hello Andrew,

    I have a Sony Vaio Z VPCZ13A7E ( Sony : Support for VPCZ13A7E | VPCZ13A7E | VPCZ13A7E technical support ) with an NVidia 330M and I'm on Windows 7 x64.

I tried to install your driver but I got an "Install Failed" error. Tried many times, rebooted many times, also completely removed default drivers, etc. but it won't install, I always get this error when it install the driver...

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I have default BIOS (never modified) and was running default Sony drivers for the last 3 years.

THANK YOU for any help - much appreciated!

First BIG thanks for the hard work Andrew08 ;)

    I'm a little lost here... Running a VAIO Z VPCZ1390s Win 7 x64
When I switch from Speed to Stamina, the display switch to Intel HD after some time, but when I switch back to speed... boom black screen (key down + enter doesn't work)

When installing your drivers (VPCZ1 26314 2266 291112084512.rar) a big warning tell me that the drivers are NOT signed! Is that normal?

After a "install anyway", In device manager / driver detail it's say "not digitally signed" (here the files without a certificate sign nvlddmkm.sys,nvdispco642050.dll,nvgenco642030.dll)
I've tried to sign them with dseo13b.exe, but after success messages and restart, files are still not signed in device manager

thanks again for your work, I really appreciate it... You should work for Sony ;)
    Mathieu

    UPDATE:
Ok I manage to resolve my problem... not sure how but here what I did:
-uninstalled current Andrew08 driver from control panel/prog & feature (all Nvidia stuff) with reboots after each
-installed the Sony driver Ver. 8.16.11.9024 (8/18/2010)
    -reboot
-uninstalled Sony driver from control panel/prog & feature and Nvidia stuff (reboots)
-Installed Andrew08's driver 263.14 2266 signed, choose advanced installation and checked "clean install"
    -reboot
Et voilà! All work has expected!

    Thanks Andrew!

    Cheers all

I have also tested by selecting "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" when booting (F8) but to not avail, I still get "Install Failed" when it installs the driver...

I'm desperate! I need an updated driver to be able to run my CAD software...

I believe I can install the latest generic Intel driver from intel.com which works great but then I cannot use the Nvidia card at all...

I will never buy a laptop from Sony again.

May I ask what version of the VPCZ1 do you have? Mine has a first-gen Core i5 and an Nvidia 330M.
Maybe it isn't working for me because the model isn't supported by the driver?

    Let me know! Thanks ;)

The links in the first page are dead (mageupload) :( I wanted to give those older drivers a try as Andrew's ones wouldn't install on my computer.

I'm willing to try ANYTHING better than the original Sony drivers (dated 2010), so anything in between from late 2010, 2011, 2012 or even better 2013 I'm willing to give it a try so I can try running my CAD app which keeps crashing on startup... their website say to update graphic drivers... well... HOW?

I have 64bit win 8.1 running on my VPCZ1 and would like to test a new grafic driver.

@anyone trying to upgrade to win 8.1
    1. If you have Truecrypt or simmilar full disk encryption the update will fail, solution: disable the encryption
    2. The update will uninstall the current grafic driver and put the default windows drive in place (max 1280x720 resolution). Solution: Get the orginal driver, Sony : VPCZ12C5E Updates | Updates für VPCZ12C5E | VPCZ12C5E herunterladen install it. the screen get black, wait until the mouse cursor comes back, then reboot (the hard way, power down). My Windows did a few housekeeping tasks at the next boot and then i got full hd resolution. I have had set the scaling factor to "smaller" as the default scaling is way too big.

    Hi,
I'm also on Win 8.1 (VPCZ1) and reinstalled the VPCZ 26314 2266 hybrid driver - haven't tried HDMI but it's working for basic tasks. However the driver crashes when running my VirtualBox Ubuntu instance after a while, screen goes blank, hybrid light changes to stamina. Also VirtualBox doesn't start when '3d graphics support selected', ready to test the new driver..

    Hi,

I got everything working a few months ago when I upgraded to Windows 8. Thanks very much for the excellent work on this!

However, yesterday, I took the plunge to 8.1, and unfortunately after installing the upgrade, the NVIDIA portion of the driver stopped working, so I was stuck with the Intel. I am using a second screen with the Vaio docking station, so I am really dependent on the NVIDA drivers while at work. I tried to re-install the drivers using the correct procedure, but the installation kept failing. I had to permanently disable signature verification and then I finally got the drivers to work in that mode (sort of). I am now stuck in "Test Mode". In addition, at every second reboot, the NVIDIA drivers fail to load and I am stuck with a single screen experience. If that happens, I have to reboot again and then the NVIDIA drivers are loaded.

Any ideas what I might have done wrong, or how to fix this unfortunate situation? Any help is greatly appreciated - I really regret going to 8.1 :-(

    Greetings,
    Carsten

VGN-Z21 running great with W8 and Andrews Drivers etc.

I've been getting a problem with certain windows updates. All other updates install fine.
    e.g. from 10. Sept 2013:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 800F0922: Update for Windows (KB2862768).
    Same error (800F0922) for:
    Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2871389) 10. Sept. 2013
    Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2876415) 8. Oct. 2013

On screen after reboot the install fails at last minute (98%etc.) "Failure configuring Windows Update - Reverting"

I've stopped all non MS services and stopped all start-up tasks (Clean Boot) but still no success.

Wondering if this related to the platform is some way.
Has anyone else experienced such problems?

I assume you have pretty used up Windows, in your case i personally would format C and make a clean install, but of course success is not guaranteed.
There are numerous times i had messed up installations by older drivers or other system failures which are transparent...Windows is not stable OS at all.

    Good luck with that! )

After a couple of hours going through different ways of loading any of the 3 updates I'm giving up for today.
    - manual download and install of individual KB items etc.

I wonder if it's related to preparing for w8.1 in some way. Who knows, the error message is just a general code.

    The problem has been reported:
    Unable to install kb2871389 - 800F0922 - Microsoft Community

try to disable fast boot and use testmode and use dseob also it works for me.

    8.1 is the worst
    net limiter 3 stop working
photoshop 14 stop working but 14.1 works
    Bluetooth driver need manual update
    media center stop working.

luckily my desktop is using separate drive for user folder(typical ssd setup for advance user) if not I will end up with something that I don't want.

since I can't get my vpcz1 screen replaced I will wait and see what to do next.

btw if someone is interested in hybrid graphic please check Lenovo T410i/s driver they move everyone to NVidia 311.00 "optimus"

for my optimus test with vpcz1, no more optimus overlay.
NVidia can be shutdown with a big "but" it is waking up every x seconds, need to recheck something.

Maybe worth adding to the notes section of the instructions?

I have managed to install Andrews VPCZ1 Hybrid graphic driver 26314 - 2266 signed on 8.1 after a great deal of effort.

    1. I have a VPCZ-1 that was working well on W8
    2. I upgraded to 8.1 which installed a newer intel driver and hosed the nvidia one.
    3. I tried to install 26314-2266 but it would not.
    4. I installed the Sony default driver which actually worked fine including HDMI out, but I could not add any custom resolutions (option not in NV control panel) so could not get my 2560x1440 monitor working (was working on W8).
    5. I kept uninstalling rebooting, reinstalling etc until finally I got the drivers both on and working.
    6. Custom resolution option was now there but they would test ok but not stay so I used CRU to add the resolution and now it all works.

I am not sure what actually got the driver on, but windows keeps trying to load a newer intel driver, so I uninstalled that, forced it to load the 2266 one and kept doing the clean install option and eventually it all worked.

I did not have to turn off quick boot or driver enforcement (except during install of course).

Any solution for install the driver in a old VGN Z with Windows 8.1 32bits, i tried to install the VGNZ 263.08 / 2020, but show's "Windows version not compatible"
I think it's because my windows 8.1 is 32-bit, but not sure if the problem is the windows version or the 32-bit.

Hi there, thanks for all the support of us who got left out by Sony. On to my question. I was trying to install the vpcz 26314 2266. I followed Andrews instruction of going into safe mode and uninstalling nvidias drivers including display. It then tells me to need to restart to take effect. I do that and let it restart to Normal mode. After that I try to install your driver. I open the .rar file and extract to a folder .i then go to setup.exe and I go to express install and it. Both the physX and hd audio driver don't install, and the hybrid graphics driver fails. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help will be much appreciated . My laptop is the Sony vpcz13jgx. Thanks in advance for the help.

    yes, I didn't make 32 bit version,
I think nvtmhyb.dll is responsible for 32bit or vista(I forgot)

I assume you are running windows 8 and connected to wwan or wifi before installing my driver,
please check my signature on windows 8 clean install.

I know this problem is because windows 8 straight away install igldh.inf, you need to uninstall it and delete the inf.

I just got my Windows 8.1update to work with my Sony VPCZ1.

    1. Restarted the 8.1 update by restoring my 8.0 image with the latest Vaio updates
    2. Perform the 8.1 update using download associated with today's date
    3. After update did a complete video driver uninstall
    4. Reboot
    5. Install Sony video drivers using Sony support installer
    6. Restart waited 5 minutes and restarted again

    Sony's docking station now works.

Hi, I am new to the forum but a big thank you to you all, especially Andrew for helping me get windows 8 running on my VPCZ1. All was going well until I installed 8.1. Managed to get Andrews Nvidia drivers reinstalled after 3 days! Tried everything initially but wouldn't install. Finally succeeded but not sure what changed to allow installation, so can only say persevere!

Problem now is that my fan runs at full speed most of the time. Has anyone else noticed this or have any ideas?

    Thanks

my fan works fine, and everything works properly as per Windows 8, hybrid switch etc.

Like you it was a struggle to get it installed but worthwhile in the end.

Any progress on the VGN-Z drivers for Windows 8.1? Every time I try to install the Andrew drivers (which worked on Windows 8), it fails to install anything, even in Windows 8 and Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Hi Guy's, quick update: Windows 8.1 update disabled the SSD driver, (the Intel RST), and installed a generic Microsoft driver. The RST icon in the hidden icon box had a yellow exclamation mark and the Microsoft driver showed up in Device Manager. I went to the Intel site and downloaded the latest 8.1 RST driver, installed with no problem. My fan speed is now back to normal and behaves normally.

I can only assume that the SSD was not working efficiently with the Microsoft driver, maybe it is designed for a standard HDD. Anyway, the Intel RST driver is a big improvement as it is specifically for SSD's

For anyone who has similar problems here is the link to the Intel driver:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...g&OSVersion=Windows 8.1*&DownloadType=Drivers

    File Name: SetupRST.exe

    Hope this is of use

gtt023, had the same problem initially, couldn't get Andrew's driver re-install. As I previously posted, I eventually managed to install the 2266. I can't say what specifically changed to finally allow it but I just kept trying. Make sure you Restart in "Disable Signature Enforcement" Mode, you can do this in PC settings. Also I reinstalled the original sony drivers first and then the 2266.

    Hope this helps

Thanks that did the trick, iani.

However, I have a problem. I am using my VGN-Z as a make shift home theater PC, and really only running the Windows 8 Plex client. I have found that running Windows 8 and Plex is too much for the laptop in many cases. I think that running something like Linux Mint would give me a much smoother experience. Does anyone know if the official Nvidia drivers (or Bumblebee hybrid drivers) would work so that I can get video and sound through the HDMI port?

    Hey, new guy here.

I own Vaio Vpcz13z9e and tried to install "VPCZ1 26314 2266" drivers. Enabled test mode (I think I did, is there a way to check?), restarted to safe mode, uninstalled old NVIDIA drivers, restarted back, tried to install the new ones, but "Install failed". Did I do something wrong? Switch was set to SPEED the whole time.

Windows usually installs a driver for the Intel part, so that is the most common cause of Andrew's driver failing to install. Check in device manager to make sure there are two entries for display adapter there, both standard VGA (or Microsoft Basic Adapter in Windows 8), one with an icon showing it has a problem. If you see something else there, click update driver> browse my computer for driver software> select a driver to install> and then select the standard or basic adapter as mentioned above.

Now restart in 'driver signature disabled mode'. Note: this is needed to install the driver; once it has been installed, you can go back to normal mode if you like. Remember to check device manager to see that both display adapters are standard or basic as mentioned in the first step.

    Now install Andrew08's driver. :)

So you mean that both Intel's driver and Nvidia's driver should be uninstalled before I start to install Andrew's? Ok, I'll try that :)

    EDIT:
Nope, still the same "Failed". I disabled driver sig. enforcement on startup, enabled Test Mode, and this still comes up. Any ideas?

Anybody tried Windows 8 or 8.1 on VPCZ13M9E/B? I'm still with Windows 7.

There might be files on your system left over from previous failed installations that are gumming up the works. Get nfr.exe (Nasty File Remover) or Drver Sweeper and run it to get rid of nVidia files. Reboot and then try again.

Windows 7, actually. I'll try Driver Sweeper, thanks for the reminder. Will post tomorrow after uni. Only test mode needed, right? I don't have to disable driver signature on startup pressing F8?

EDIT: Still no luck with this. Even after I ran Driver Sweeper and rebooted, it still came out as "failed".

    My steps:
    Enable test mode
    Reboot to safe mode
    Uninstall Nvidia Display driver
    Reboot
    Run Driver Sweeper
    Reboot
    Try to install VPCZ1 26314 2266 291112084512

    Is there anything I'm missing?

I don't use test mode at all. I just restart with driver signature enforcement disabled, install the driver, and then restart normally. Do check before installing that both adapters show standard vga/microsoft basic - Windows has a very helpful habit of installing drivers for you. If you have enabled driver downloads via Windows Update, it is a good idea to disconnect from the internet while trying to install the driver.

Yeah, it looks like this : imgur: the simple image sharer so both are standard. Would a clean install (like reinstalling windows 7) help? Because I was planing to do that, maybe I should do it sooner...

    Hi everyone,

I have an old Vaio VGN-Z2 with an NVidia 9300M which worked fine with Win 8.0 using the win7 x64 drivers but which is stuck in 1024x768 since I upgraded to win 8.1.

Will installing the drivers in Andrew08 sig work on this setup? I'm confused with the models supposed to work with these.

    Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I tried to install the VGN-Z version (25308 2020) and I got a failed install during the graphics drivers (I had selected clean install, so it was after the reboot). The previous NVidia driver had been uninstalled. Any idea?

Edit2: it looks like my 9300m is not detected. The stamina switch leds are not listed and only the intel graphics is detected in device manager. I've used driver sweeper to clean all NVidia software, still no NVidia adapter in device manger.

Manni, I don't think that non-Intel gpu should be detected. If not, I may have found my problem too.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I did get it to work in the end...

I had to enable test mode, uninstall and delete the Intel driver (to get the generic display driver to appear), and then the install of Andrew's drivers worked. I also had to reboot a couple of times to get the NVidia drivers detected and the switch to work, but all is working great now. I'm in speed mode, driving my external Dell monitor, and I don't have to stay in test mode.

I don't know if it helped or not but I also installed the latest bios and the vaio event centre linked a bit earlier in the thread.

A million thanks to Andrew08 and Nautis and everyone else helping here for a new lease of life to my trusty VGN-Z2.

I have been having the same issues as Ackrite. I have done almost everything to get these Drivers installed. I am on Windows 7 64bit. Any help with be greatly appreciated. I will list what I usually do.

    Reboot into Safe Mode
    Uninstall Nvidia Drivers
Reboot back to normal Mode (At this point some drivers install by themselves, there is the standard VGA driver and one that fails and some HD audio Drivers)
    Run Driver Sweeper
Reboot into driver signature enforcement disabled
Check to see that drivers are both standard VGA with one of them with a error
Try to install Andrews and Fail.

I am not connected to Internet during whole process. Again this is for Windows 7 64 bit VPCZ1JGX, ad trying to install 26314 2266
