Hi,
I haven't touched Sony laptops for a long time but now I had to do a fresh install of Windows 10 on a VGN-Z590.
I tried to install Andrew08 driver (VGNZ 26308 2020) but when I install it in Speed mode it just says "installation failed". There was no Nvidia driver installed before. And the Intel driver that is running came with Windows Update. Any idea how to fix this?

Andrew08 driver (VGNZ 26308 2020). This has nVIDIA driver version 263.08 and Intel driver version 2020. These are both very old, but they are the latest ones that will work on your hardware. You have to get rid of the Intel driver provided by WU because it is newer, and the installer will not overwrite newer files.
Disconnect from the internet. Uninstall the existing Intel driver. Makes sure device manager has two entries for Microsoft Basic Adapter, one of which has an exclamation mark in a triangle. If you tried any other drivers, use driversweeper or similar to get rid of any junk left behind. Now disable driver signature enforcement and install the driver.das_ubersoldat likes this. -
Thanks! Can I then update the intel driver again?
-
Maybe allow unsigned drivers?
-
No. That is the latest Intel driver + nVIDIA driver combination that works with your hybrid graphics and still gives automatic switching. In fact, you will need to take steps to ensure that Windows Update does not install a newer driver. Google for wushowhide.diagcab for instructions on how to do that. If you must have the latest drivers, you have to give up on automatic switching and look for the BIOS HACK.
-
Thanks! Actually I don't need the nVIDIA chip so I will just leave it as it is.

I have a vpcz1 I installed windows 8.1 once but don't remember why I rolled back to windows 7 as a clean install with the modified graphics drivers. my computer dies from time to time using Netflix or even spottily I think might be due to overheating but there is no sign of that on the reports. what would you recommend to upgrade to windows 10 or jut let this buddy die with windows 7? I usually run CAD software on this one. HELP.
-
check the windows event and log viewer.
-
Might be hardware as well as software issue. I would start with recovering original sony installation, or rollback to a backup you have or do another clean install first (windows 7). By that you can rule out if it's a hardware issue.
-
Check temperatures. Check task managers for anything that might be hogging CPU resources. Perhaps a bit of cleaning is all that is needed.

Hey guys, I hope someone can help!
I'm having basically the same regular problem.
Sony VAIO VPCZ1 + Win10.
In Device Manager it shows with triangles:
Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
I have Anrew08 drivers, and I disabled driver signature confirmation.
But when I run the setup.exe it gives me the following error:
Installation cannot continue. The graphics driver couldn't find compatible graphics software.
Could someone please point me to how can I handle this?
Thanks in advance! -
Andrew08 driver from post #2152 helped. Case is closed.Paloseco likes this.

I'm just about to play this game, having just installed Win10 on my Z11 (2010 model). Can I ask what position you had the graphics switch set when you installed (speed?), and did you install only 26314? Did you just run setup.exe and did you do the stuff in post 82 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...indows-10-10240.779140/page-9#post-10261290)? Any other tips most welcome.
Sorry for all the questions, but there's a ton (!!) of stuff here and not all is Win10 specific.Last edited: Jul 29, 2016 -
JUst installed on two VPCZ13 I refurbished. Works like charme!

Hmmm. I've completed the BIOS Hack. Excellent work there. Moving onto the video driver mods - I'm stumbling.
I've done the following:
- set the video switch settings in the BIOS to manual
- downloaded the 300M series driver and spun up the creation of the NVidia directory and its children.
- ran the 'VAIO_Z1_330M_INF_Patcher.exe.' which needed test mode to be switched on
- deleted the original nvdia driver and intel driver from Device Manager in safe mode
- restarted
- in safe mode got the device manager to install two default VGA drivers (one ended up with a exclamation mark)
- reran the patcher - came back with message that the intel driver needed to be installed
- went to intel.com - could not find the 2266 driver.
Any suggestions please?
EDIT. Found a way through it.
a. Asked both drivers to try and find the latest. One went off and replaced itself with the Intel driver.
b. That enabled me to run the patcher.
I presume one continues with an unsigned Nvidia driver and Win 7 in test mode until I get to win 10.
Thank you CC, Andrew08 and all the others who brought it this far. I am very grateful.Last edited: Nov 2, 2016 -
you're aware Microsoft's offer for the free upgrade to Windows 10 has ended on July 31st, aren't you.

Even after that, it was still possible to get the free upgrade by enabling some accessibility features before running the upgrade. I wonder if it is still available.galaxyge likes this.

1. The very complicated instructions about driver installation pertain to the hybrid driver. It is a lot easier for the BIOS HACK guys, as you've already discovered.
2. Don't bother with drivers before upgrading - the Windows 10 upgrade process will make you reinstall them anyway.
3. Check if the free upgrade to Win 10 is still available - some forums suggest that if you enable some accessibility features, you can still get it. If it is there, get your digital entitlement (upgrade and verify that Win 10 is activated), then do a clean install of Win 10 (format C drive during setup) to start with a clean slate.
4. Install Win 10 with the mode switch set to stamina. Let Windows Update find the Intel driver for you.
5. Download the nVIDIA driver, run it, let it fail. This extracts the contents to a folder on C drive. Run CC's patcher. Enable test mode (this involves rebooting). Reboot after setting the mode switch to speed. Install the nVIDIA patched driver.
6. If you don't need the test mode for other stuff, you can go back to normal mode once the driver is installed.galaxyge likes this. -
it is.

Does anyone know whether a 1340 with a 210m GPU has the same hybrid SLI setup as the 9500 configuration, or is it a more conventional discrete GPU that's always active?

Hi Guys,

On Andrew's port says to follow the instructions on his signature but i cant find anything.
Any help?!?
Thanks

Full model number, please. This thread is primarily for VGNZ and VPCZ1 series, so don't use the instructions here on any other laptop unless you really know what you're doing.

Hello. How did you manage to download it? Megaupload is down for ages I think.
Anybody can help? How can I download Andrew's drivers?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Ok, a working link is in the text file under Andrew's post! If anybody else is looking for it
It's not obvious that it's there. It helped me, it's working. Thank you so much guys. Say no to forced (greedy) upgrades!

this one has Windows 10 clean install including BIOS hack and NVIDIA drivers update.

BIOS Hack is not an easy walk. You can brick your laptop with it. If you have difficulties to follow these steps I wouldn't recommend to do it.
It is possible to use Windows 10 with Andrew08 drivers, I wouldn't recommend that either but some members have managed.Last edited: Apr 8, 2017 -
In case other people are looking for the patched drivers by Andrew08 (Nvidia 263.14 + Intel 2266 signed), as it seems all the download links in this thread are dead, you can get them in a Russian torrent I found.
Here's the magnet link to it :
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:EAB10F05E64530A802901BD56DA0170E377BCCBB&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fbt.t-ru.org%2Fann%3Fmagnet
It contains the following :
- "BIOS HACK"
- "HYBRID\VGNZ NVIDIA 26308 - Intel 2020 - by andrew"
- "HYBRID\VPCZ1 Nvidia 26314 - Intel 2266 signed"
I installed 263.14 + 2266 from the torrent by following the instructions in Andrew08's post and it worked perfectly, except that I had to install the new driver while in safe mode, if I did it in normal mode it failed.

The BIOS hack & Nvidia GT330M are working fine with Windows 10 Creators Update. Brightness keys and HDMI port work fine too.
What I am not sure of is if I should be able to flip between GPUs on the fly by using the Hybrid Switch - does anyone know ? A reboot is the only way I can switch between GPUs.
VPCZ115CELast edited: May 2, 2017 -
= works as designed. The switching is now (in STATIC setting) solely controlled by the BIOS. To use DYNAMIC switching, you would have to install the old hybrid drivers in Windows instead.Last edited: May 3, 2017
