    Hi chemist
    For me that blue screen hasn't shown up for just a couple of days by now.. No final guarantee. But it looks good.

    The Bios hack is the way to go if you need a newer driver than the ole SONY one.

    Hey everyone! Thanks to the people supplying the drivers! I used them for the last couple of years! ;)

    So this is a warning to all vaio users on win 7x64 with 263.14/2266 - do not install the programm duet (it's a program that lets u use your iOS device as a second screen, i did't find out what it does prior to installing it) it completeley messed up my Notebook(z12c5e). The nvidiacard did't work properly anymore - just showimg black screen with the flickering mouse - switching to intel worked but there were driver crashes
    On a reinstall of the drivers- it said it was in speed-mode but you could see it was actually the igp running without win aero, opengl, cuda, no games where working - a nightmare. I tried everything to undo the thing, then deinstalled all the drivers, used original ones wen't through every possibility. I thought maybe the gpu was gone for good- fried by this programm...
    Then it came to my mind that i want to test it with the latest available nvidia drivers without switchablehybrid graphic, to see if the card works at all.
    So i did the bios hack - downloaded the most recent drivers from nvidia for gt330m and voilà-> everything up and running!
    I'm happy that i got my notebook back to work -since I'm abroad and it would be a horror to buy a new one. Besides i don't know which would be the best option.

    Now to my question: if i attempt a reinstall of the OS (win7/10) do you think it's possible to get the hybrid switching back? Would i have to undo the bios hack? Or could i just put it to auto?

    Thanks for the heads up.

    To answer your questions, yes, no and yes. If clean installing Windows 10, use wushowhide.diagcab to make sure Windows Update doesn't try to install a 'better' driver.

    Personally, I'm not missing the hybrid switching as much as I feared - I have an SSD now and rebooting is quite fast. With an HDD I would definitely have found it annoying.

    Have seen this error before, need to check my records how I solved it. Possibly by setting the rated service to compatibility mode.

    Has Somebody else an idea?

    Standard instructions:
    1. Uninstall existing driver. Device manager should show Microsoft Basic Adapter or similar BS.
    2. Clean your system of previously installed NVIDIA stuff. Drivercleaner works.
    3. Disable signed driver enforcement (enable test mode)
    4. If you have UEFI boot, go into the BIOS and disable secure boot (unsigned drivers are not allowed in secure boot). This is not likely for the old models catered to in this thread, so look into your antivirus software settings to see if there is something similar there.
    5. Good idea to disconnect from the internet so Windows Update doesn't get you a driver that it thinks is better.
    6. Install the driver with clean settings.

    BTW. make sure you have the correct driver for your OS version (32 bit or 64 bit) and model (VGN or VPCZ1).

    These can (and should) all be downloaded from the Sony support site for your model. Not all versions are compatible with all models. You could try getting the latest versions for your model class (e.g. VPCZ139 owners might work for VPCZ115; VPCZ2 drivers will probably not).

    - Have you disabled automatic updates to drivers by windows?
    - check that nvidia services are registered correctly (guard driver: at boot, display driver : automatically)
    - Repeat above procedure and do not touch it again.. No hampering with registry allowed ;D

    Mine is working fine for over a week now, no issues anymore, except a bloody Raid controller driver not updated by Intel makes SSDs work in snail mode.

    I installed NVDVID-00208041-764.EXE (8.16.11.8735) (latest sony official driver download from first post of this topic) and it works perfectly (speed/stamina - hibernate and ....)
    I installed driver by extracting and install "nvmvsz.inf" manually (have disk option).
    i had brightness control problem before but now it is fixed. (may be by windows updates)
    all other drivers from sony website works fine too.

    just fresh install windows 10 and install NVDVID-00208041-764.EXE by extracting. (setup fails)

    Nvidia Gforce9300M GS

    if you have run the .exe file in compat mode you should already have this file on your computer. Look in C:\Users\<your User>\AppData\Local\Temp\Drivers\ or do search for it with explorer.

    Extract with E_wise Unpacker method and wait to finish extraction.
    Or just run exe and go to temp folder as galaxyge said.

    The Sony stock drivers gave me a lot of trouble too. IMHO the BEST drivers for switchable hybrid graphics are the ones released by Andrew08. You VGNZ guys need this one: VGNZ Nvidia 26308 - Intel 2020 signed.

    @anytimer
    Thanks, a lot of valuable information. For now I stay with the stock Sony drivers as it's running smoothly now, without the need for test mode.
    If it doesn't hold I will try or move on to BIOS hack. I hesitated from the hack as I didn't find a safe procedure for my VGN-Z.

    @chemist20
    Sorry dude, I told you all I know so good luck.

    What are your CPU and GPU temperatures? Install a utility like openhardware monitor or Argus monitor and try to see if overheating is the cause. Keep in mind that a freshly installed new OS is able to push the hardware a little bit harder, so you might be having overheating issues.

    Hi Guys
    First please excuse for my English ! i don't know is any one here had the same problem as my,i've been looked through a lots of the threads here,but seem no one had this problem i'm facing now : after downloaded n installed Andrew08's signed driver,i run into first problem as i mentioned above,the Nvidia installer just hanged n said installation fail ? after i posted thread above asked for help,but no help at all ! for almost a days n night tried to uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers,but the same,i then download the drivers again,using Winzar extracted the files n reinstalled then it working ! before that i did used the 7zip to extract the file,n i don't know why the installer won't install any thing,i think the 7zip did not do the job well,hence some files corrupted ! any way after followed exactly as instructed,i've got the drivers installed ! i plug in my ASUS VX24AH monitor,open Nvidia control panel and customize the resolution to 2560x1440p and then i've got the beautiful screen with 2560x1440p ! i was very excited,happy ! because after more than 24 hours straight without any sleep,cos u can not sleep when u tried to make it work like every one does,but it not worked,u gone to bed,close ur eyes,but can not sleep,then get up n worked at it again ! yes,as i said after 24 hour i had spend to this,n now it worked,i was so happy ! but my joy was short,because after i restarted my laptop,the monitor screen n laptop screen both are BLACK ! i pull the HDMI cable out of the laptop,10 seconds later i've got the picture on the laptop again,n the pop up said : the GPU was shut down n has recover ! i restart the laptop without the cable every thing normal,but i plug in the cable then both screen r black,i uninstalled the drivers,then reinstalled again,if i set the res at 1920x1080p, i pull out cable,then plug in again or restarted the laptop,it's normal,nothing happen,but if i set the res at 2560x1440p,i got the picture,but as soon as i pull cable out or restarted the laptop,then both screen are black ! is any one here had this problem before ? please share it ! any one could help me fix this i'll be grateful to you,cos i love my Z1 so much ! i've got Z2 and Z3,but the Z1 still my favorite,because the shape,the build,thin bezel..integrate Bluray,.etc..,i've got my Z2 n Z3 to worked with my WQHD 2560x1440p monitor without a problem,but the Z1 not,i thinks in my opinion : the Z2 n Z3 had DirectX11,but Z1 has DirectX10,that is why,cos when i plug in my VAIO VPCF136FG with Nvidia GT 425M,i can set the customize resolution in Nvidia control panel without problem,or my LENOVO T420S is OK ! all my laptop with DirectX11 are worked straight out with 2560x1440 monitor,but not DirectX10 ! in my opinion,any thought ? please help ! thanks guys.

    1. Andrew08's excellent driver is the best available for switchable hybrid graphics, but it IS old. I recommend the BIOS HACK which will allow you to use new drivers, although you will have to give up dynamic switching; with the BIOS HACK and static mode, you change graphics adapters by moving the speed stamina switch to the desired position and rebooting.

    2. I am assuming that you have already changed the dual monitor mode from the default clone to extend.., as the clone mode will try to run both monitors at the same resolution, which the internal display does not support when you set 2560x1440.

    3. Keep an eye on the CPU and GPU temperatures. Overheating is the number one cause of erratic display adapter behaviour. This is an old laptop - you might need to clean the air passages, lubricate the fan shaft and change the thermal paste.

    Hi,thanks 4 ur responded ! i'm not play game (i'm 50 years old noob) or do any work like graphic or photos,just to surf the web,etc.,but i like do the testing, n have the WQHD screen,it's look better,more space for windows,so my main concern is to make it work with my WQHD monitor,yes i changed monitor mode to monitor 2 only,cos with clone or extend mode,the Nvidia control would not let me create customize resolution,so i choose only to monitor 2,which is my external WQHD monitor,funny thing is : the first time after installed Andrew's driver,then i can use N.C panel to create 2560x1440p res,n it's worked on monitor,but as soon as i restarted laptop,or pull out cable,then both screen are black,n i can never get the picture back on the monitor,only thing i could do is i must change the res back to full HD(1920X1080) then i can pull cable out,or restart the laptop,then i can reset the res to 2560x1440 again,n if i for got to left the res at 2560x1440 n restart,the all screen r black,n i have to uninstall then reinstall driver again,n every time both screen r black,i must pull out the cable,for about 10-15 seconds later,i can get the picture back on the laptop,n a pop up said some thing about graphic in kernel mode has stopped n recover ! then i tried to plug in the cable,but message on monitor showed no signal on HDMI cable ! i think some wrong with the HDMI,or may be Nvidia card,or hybrid graphic ! i got my VPC-F136FG with Nvidia GT425M (DirectX11) worked straight out the box with 2560x1440 monitor,i don't know if any one with VAIO F early model with GT330M (DirectX10)can make it worked or not,1 thing is the F does not have hybrid graphic like the Z1,n in my opinion any card with DirectX11 will work out of the box,but the card with DirectX10 will never worked,i hope i'm wrong ! n i hope some one will prove i was wrong ! as i said in my previous post,all my laptop with DirectX11,all worked with WQHD monitor without any drama,but DirectX10 not work,n never worked,i think ! i'm waiting to see if any one had the same problem like me or not, can i ask do u know if i use the BIOS hack,will i get this Z1 work with 2560x1440 monitor without any problem like this ? please !if some people can confirm,then i'll give it a try ! at the moment i hope some one will respond or come up with the solution to make the Z1 working with 2560x1440 monitor permanently ! as u said about the temp,it was OK,not overheat,just normal as it always running a bits loud sometimes,but OK, any way thanks so much for ur concern anytimer ! cheers.

    Hi chaccado,
    Please keep your posts shorter and to the point.. I can't read everything you write.. sorry.
    Fast startup is a feature of Windows 10 (and 8 as well), in power settings, 'Change what the power buttons do'.
    Find it in control panel power options. It causes windows to hibernate instead of doing a full shutdown.

    Hello all,
    I have a Vaio Z135GG without any modified display driver nor hacked bios, I just wonder if I want to update my vaio to Windows 10 how do I get both my Nvidia/ Intel works just like Windows 7? I searched this post a bit but found it hard to follow... (I did reghack and upgraded to Windows 10 but only Intel driver works)....

    Thanks alot.

    It is possible. I haven't tried it yet, but full instructions are here:
    VPCZ1 upgrade to Windows 10 10240

    I would recommend that you post on that thread if you have any problems.

    Occasionally my vaio z1 freezes, and I suspect it's because of nVidia:

    Nvidia Network Stream Service has stopped working. At least it's what shows the Windows Reliability Monitor. How can I fix it?

    This is part of the xml:
    HTML:
                <Event>
                    <Time>2015-12-30T11:12:12.372</Time>
                    <Impact>Critical</Impact>
                    <Source>NVIDIA Network Stream Service</Source>
                    <Problem>Stopped working</Problem>
                    <State>Not reported</State>
                </Event>
    The executable is NvStreamNetworkService.exe

    OK, tried disabling NVIDIA Streamer Service from services.msc. The vaio shouldn't freeze again (using latest patched driver).
