So I didn't look through the whole thread, but is it possible to get the Z to use both gpu at the same time like a crossfire/sli setup?

Does the Z have two nvidia graphics processors or one intel and one nvidia?
In the former situation, it is probably possible, in the latter, no.

There are a few ways to disable driver signature enforcement. One needs to be done at every boot, one is a hack, and the other is a feature built into windows.

If you press F8 while booting and choose "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" you do not need to use test mode but this must be done every time you boot and if you forget the drivers do not work.

There is a hack that pretty much forces "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" on every boot. It creates a boot menu (or modifies the one you already have) and defaults to an option that chooses the aforementioned mode. This is hack is called "Driver Ready Plus" and slows down boot time dramatically and modifies your boot (which doesn't seem worth it to me.)

The feature as I called it above is Test Mode. Test Mode was created so developers can test their drivers on windows before they pay gobs of money for the drivers to be signed. Being a feature built into windows it works extremely well with the drawback being the watermark.

Removing the "Test Mode" watermark is possible and should not harm your windows OS, with that said however it is technically a hack. You can see one way to do it here.

As far as I know it is not possible to use both GPUs at the same time. And if you could the Intel mGPU would slow down the Nvidia dGPU dramatically, so why even bother.

As nautis said you cant use intel + nvidia at same time.
Dont get it confused with hybrid sli where two different nvidia gpus can be used "at the same time".

You all have no idea how much Nautis is working behind the scenes.
    Thanks Nautis.

I know a few pretenders to the driver modding scene and he aint one of them.

the hybrid sli option is in the driver, you can find it in the energy options; i think it is without function?

Switched back to the v3 driver.

thats very hot... i guess you should use intel hd4500 for WoW than nvidia if you spend more hours of playing it. now most of the time, im using intel for my gaming , its able to handle my games (online gaming and cs:s, nfs: prostreet and its previous *yes i dont play much game D: ). if i want to play l4d, thats the only time im using nvidia (gotta love the 1600x900 reso on this game XD )

are you sure? try monitor using CoreTemp ( http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ )(log the temp reading too) since the HD4500 utilize the cpu speed/resources. the temp when im running game using HD4500 is around 60 ~ 70 , usually max will be 65. if online game like Dragonica, it will run around 55 ~ 60 usually.

Am I only only one getting these "the display has driver stopped responding and has been restored" errors when using the intel card? It appears all the time when I'm doing "demanding" tasks like playing snes games with Zsnes :) or using rosetta stone language learning software. It's fine with the 9300 though.

    (still using 190.15)

Ahh i poste the same contents few days ago, but few people experienced this issue include me... sometimes in stamina mode (eg Intel card) and only with battery mode (all disable and only level one of brightness) randomly the "driver stop...." pop up and rest brightness to maximum level.

On my side it never occur when doing "demanding" task. Looks like you ve faulty hardware issue.

Which driver do you use? I made all updates except video drivers but occured once a week...

I am also experiencing this problem, and it is quite annoying at times. Everything will stop, the screen goes black, then comes back on at full brightness and the error message appears.

Driver version in device manager for nvidia is 8.15.11.8585 (whichever version that is).

EXCELLENT drivers Dox. Makes this laptop play l4d much better than stock settings. keep it up!!

I can truly understand, how hard Nautis is working behind the scenes. I tried many drivers but nothing made the SPEED/STAMINA switch work, and it worked great with Nautis driver. That shows how hard he is working.

Thanks Nautis for the great effort

    Aww shucks. :D
In all seriousness though, thank you for the kind words.

Its funny when modding drivers for as long as I have (Doubt anyone remembers me from the 3Dfx days.) and you start noticing errors or ways they could have written the official INFs better.
Take a few years off and now there are complete sites around like laptopvideo2go and fantastic modders like yourself and Pieter. I still feel like I am playing catch-up most of the time when it comes to these though.

Looking forward to the fantasic things you have in store for everyone in the future. Dox 185.85 was a truly amazing release. There are not many modders around that go to the extent you do to make sure your modded drivers work for so many people. For me being one of the fringe (aka. Hybrid Graphics) users I have nothing but appreciation when modders go out of their way for the fringe few like myself.

In all honesty I do not use the mGPU (Intel) much so I have not tested it thouroughly. My guess is that the errors are due to settings issues with the Intel portion. I have used the settings for the mGPU (Intel) portion pretty much how they are in the official drivers.

Thank you guys for reporting this issue. I will change some settings and see if I can fix it.

    -

Glad 190.15 seems to be working ok for most people. I had to move an entire office today, so I haven't had too much time to jump on the bugs and test out 186.18. I hope to post Hybrid Graphics 190.15 on laptopvideo2go if there are no serious bugs. I felt I owed it to you guys to let you test them first. I still have a lot to do including updating the first post here and modding 195.15 for another user I promised. So little time.

And thank you everyone for your kind words. I am humbled and honored. I enjoy modding and love when things work well, and the challenge when they do not. It is really you guys that make this all possible though. So thank you.

Is this only on Stamina (Intel) or also on Speed (Nvidia)?

Expect a revised INF for 190.15 soon featuring adjusted Intel settings.

podam: Well I hope it's not faulty hardware, cause with Dox's 185.85 it happpened sometimes when I was idle in Windows too.

Miyabi: Yeah Zsnes being demanding is of course a joke :D I'll test some other random games with the intel card and see what happens.

EDIT: I did some testing with the intel card and it seems to me its related to Direct3D. I tried playing a snesgame using bsnes instead of Zsnes. bsnes enables you to choose between direct3d, opengl and directdraw for rendering. The same error happens with bsnes like in zsnes using direct3d but not with opengl or directdraw.

I checked the windows log during the error and it states the following:
    Event 4101, Display
The displaydriver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has been restored.

    Another error possible related states:
Event 12, The device Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Series PCI Express Root Port - 2A41 (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A41&SUBSYS_9025104D&REV_07\3&21436425&0&08) was removed from the computer without first being prepared for removal.

I also tried playing Quake 2 (which uses openGL I believe) and no problems there.

    Very nice and detailed report.

    -

I have posted up INFs with changes on the Intel side for 190.15 here. Right click on the INFs and choose "save link as" and then replace the exisiting INFs from 190.15 with Version 2 and then reinstall the drivers. As always a uninstall of previous drivers is recommended.

Also a question for people with Intel (Stamina) issues. Are all of you with problems using Vista or are there some people with problems under Stamina using W7?

I don't understand the high temps you get either. I tried the new driver and it is pretty much like Dox's drivers except faster.

I see nothing wrong about the test drivers on Vista X64. Switching from stamina to speed and vice versa works. Brightness settings work on both modes as well.

Temps on this drivers are also pretty good since it is much like Dox's 185.85 driver. I get a max of 81 C.

I will report as soon as find any new bugs.

Oh, one thing I'd ought to mention (although I think somebody has already mentioned it). In Windows 7, whenever there is a power state change (AC plugged in, removed), the whole screen turns black for a second or two while the video resets (almost as if X is restarting in Linux, if you know what I mean). This happens in Stamina mode.

Nautis, on the BenQ website, they have a newer graphics driver for the Joybook S42 dated 20090508, it's still labeled 175.84 though.. any idea what the differences are?

If you are unable to check it up, I'll probably gonna download it in about 9 hours because I'm stuck on dial-up for the rest of the month.. >.<

Namaiki thanks for the info. I am not sure why they are labeled new on that portion of their site. That version has been up on their site for a while and is quite old. I will download it and take a look just in case they mislabeled it or something and let you know. BenQs downloads are horribly slow, by the way. You could probably download it almost as quick on dialup. :p

EDIT: Nope seems to be the same old driver.

Mine is just the 25W cooling system. Asian and Japan versions have 35W cooling systems since they sometimes use 35W cpu.

Did the "Version 2" INF fix problems on stamina for anyone?

Hi nautis, sorry for the delay :) I have tried the v2 inf and the same problem still occurs. Alltough I havnt had any problems with anything else besides emulating snes games with either zsnes or bsnes. I tried playing Half-life 2 (which uses direct3d I'm sure) with the intel card and no problems there.

It HAS happened one time in 4 hours when I was idle in Windows that the error appeared as well (both with the v2 inf and the old one)

For your information, in Dox's 185.85 the error occured more frequently when I was idle in windows (perhaps 3 times / hour) So this version seems more stable on the intel side.

9300M GS still working perfectly fine though ^^

Nautis, after some time successfully using 190.15 in speed, i decided to use stamina instead, but when it wakes up each time - it tries to switch to speed but with no success. The led does not change to stamina and the system automatically reinstalls a generic video driver... ((
p.s. the screen is now blinking..

Seems strange. I have been using both speed and stamina with my only problem being the brightness issue. I wonder if the drivers did not install properly. Have you tried the "Version 2" INF? You could always try that and a manual install through device manager. Make sure the switch is on Speed before installing.

I may post updated Intel drivers (1825) to extract over the existing ones in the 190.15 if anyone wants to test em. I have a few more ideas I just thought of to try to fix the brightness issue. Been very busy with other things lately.

Ok I have updated Intel drivers posted to the link found in my signature. They are just updated versions of the same files so no INF changes are needed. Just copy the files over the existing ones and reinstall.

Been using Intel 1825 for pretty much all of today; no problems encountered so far.

I have also had the intel 1825 installed now for some time. The same error as before still appears when using zsnes and bsnes, I'm gonna ask the devs to see if this is a common problem with intel card. (since it's very frequent here)

The same error did happpen in photoshop as well. This time around causing photoshop to crash.

no, Nautis, 190.15 ver2 + new Intel does not working properly for me on win7 7264 x64 - spontaneous switching to speed after awaking from sleep, BSOD at one of my tries to install it - go back to original.. ( probably we use different version of sony utilities, my versions: Setting Utility Series 4.3(092Q) - 4.3.0.14120,
    VAIO Event Service 4.3 (092Q) - 4.3.0.13190, VAIO_Power_Management_3.3_092Q_3.3.0.12190

Ok guys thanks for the error reports. I have just had something similar happen on mine Vovus. Still haven't had errors like yours Czez.

I assume the windows version listed in your signatures is correct:
    Vovus: Win7 64Bit
    Czez: Vista 32Bit

Knowing this will help me track down if these issues are OS specific.

Correct, I'm using vista business 32-bit. The error I am getting is very rare in windows, allltough it HAS happened, it happens frequently in bsnes and zsnes. I'll check with the creators of those emulators to see if its a known error they have with intel cards or anything else.

EDIT: I just noticed something else installing the updated intel drivers, the resolution choices are back to the old 4 resolutions compared to the many options given before with intel 1808. This things with resolutions seems to overlap between both the intel driver and the nvidia, no? Since I want the choice I'm switching back :)

For some reason i cant get the drivers installed correctly. The last release of 185.68 was working. I install by running the setup.exe. Before i installed them i uninstalled the old nvidia drivers using vista programs and features. I then made sure the switch was on speed. I get code 39 Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). Im running vista ultimate 64. Any ideas.?

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

Whichever ones are the latest ones that you posted up. I think 190.15. At first i downloaded those and the new intel inf updates.. i pasted the files from the intel update over the ones from the 190.15 first. Then that didnt work. I uninstalled completely again and tried to just do it without the updated intel files and still no go.. Thanks for your reply Nautis.
