The default S battery lasts 5 hours. The L size lasts around 10, and the "X" battery lasts 20 hours. $1000 or so is the starting price, with the S battery, the slowest Atom 1.6Ghz, and 64GB SSD. Also, there is no Bluetooth or WiMax included in that price. I won't be buying this machine; I used to have a VAIO P and just found it too slow for everyday use (the X seems to have exactly the same hardware, with a very slow GMA 500). Also, the wireless in the P series isn't compatible with the 5Ghz band, which I prefer using.

Well the US pricing is not so bad, it could still be about the £1,500-£1,700 mark in the UK.

I love that Sony didn't mention that it has an atom processor on their website on the specs page and main page.

It looks really quite odd with the extended battery.

I believe most of the people dont even know whats the difference betwin atom, core2 duo, etc...they only see the frequency, at least from my experience.

sleek looking machine, but the word "available 128GB Solid State Drive" confuses me a bit....this means there will also be a model with normal hdd? god, hope not :)

I guess the price in EU will be around 1500€, which is not that bad I think...

Really looking forward to some reviews and CPU speed. Any words on the GPU yet?

Oh, saw it now...64GB version is priced at 1300

I am a bit dissapointed with a standard battery life time. Only around 3h

Yeah extreme light weight and long battery life are hard to combine.

The extended battery is free though... and ugly.

The CPU with only a frequency listed on the U.S. website confuses me, so I double checked it on the Japanese site, it was listed as an Atom 2.0Hz. Also the battery time from Japan model is quite different from the U.S. model. The one on Japan is much longer than the U.S.

I dont know if I've overlooked this before, but on sonystyle page it says there is standard and extended battery inside the box.

If this is true, the price is very reasonble!

The battery is odd alright and i'm still undecided if i would use that in some public places. In a class it might look a little odd etc.

The gold one is nice though and it looks pretty cute.
The colour looks different here than the one in the Engadget pictures.
    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...ryId=8198552921644667494&N=4294954366#gallery

I think i could possibly buy one, not now though but when the price drops in the UK. In time i could get a main notebook with a HDMI port if i wanted. It is going to challenge the TT's pricing though especially now some are going for £900 odd discontinued. Really and that just makes my decision making all the harder.

I really want to order one, although I'd like it with a 128GB SSD & in black. I hope Sony doesn't have the cheek to price it as high as the TT series.

Hmm, I'll take that with a pinch of salt, especially as they list the OS as "WIN 7 BUSINESS". Clearly they haven't a clue, haha! Not paying £2k for it though, I think the absolute limit I'd pay would be £1.3-£1.5k. Having seen the US pricing, there's no reason it should be as high as that.

I think i believe that Steve78, i think they just may be made an error with the OS. It probably will sell a couple of hundred pounds cheaper though, that is probably rrp prices.

This is another, this one has an 1.86 processor.

Hopefully Sony will post the specs soon on their website.

    Edited to add:
It is even on notebook.de. It is very real.

I can't believe the specs of the X. It has exactly the same specs of the P! Only that the screen is a little bigger and lower resolution, so the X is for people that they can't stand the tiny screen of the P? Same Atom, same intel gma 500 (read around the web the complains about its video performance), GPS. The price is not so bad if you consider the extended battery. Anyway, not for me. I will wait for Vaio P "mark 2", as others here.

Who is interested in the X check conics.net...a lot of options.

    256 GB SSD
X, L and S battery (there are three kind of batteries?)
    Premium Carbon
    3G

Well..i dont know about TT...i dont know how they could improve it, it have low voltage core 2 duo CPU, 4G or ram, SSD, blu ray..and awesome screen with awesome battery life...and its not selling well...they could just update it with new windows 7, but thats it.

so i guess the rumor of TT going EOL is true, heck...seeing a Z, there is no need for somebody to get a TT, unless you want a super light thing, then there will be X. there is no need for ultra portable multimedia laptop, since we have Z serie, making it a big smaller (like TT) did not made a big difference in terms of portability.

The reason many people complain about GMA500 is that they don't know how to install the right codecs. Even many reviewers don't know this.

With the right codecs it will play 1080p video smooth, even on an Atom Z520.

Of course the GMA500 is useless for gaming and rendering, but whomever was planning to do that on an Atom should buy something else.

This laptop is actually priced almost exactly the same as the entry level Dell Adamo. imo the only thing the Adamo has over the x is looks and processor speed. The x blows Adamo out the water in all the other departments (especially battery life). Really tho, am I the only one who thinks that the extended battery could have been designed a little more better? It's rather HUGE...

John Ratsey scored 1,554 in the PCMark 05 with a first gen Sony Vaio G series with a 1.33 CS processor and a 1.8 4200 PATA zif HD. I have an SSD in my TX, i might run the test for myself later just to see.

    He also got
    -
The Vaio TZ with a 1.2ghz processor scored ULV U7600 2,517.

I got 1812, this Samsung Zif SSD drive is also not the fastest drive in the world lol.

This finally looks a like a nice lappy from Sony. The ugly extended battery doesn't bother me that much, it's only visible from the sides, not the top. :p

Besides, it's really all about battery life. While the Atom may not be powerful, we know it uses power sparingly. Unfortunately, the 128GB SSD will be too small for me, so I await the 256GB version sold at Costco for $1,000. :D

I managed to get full 1080p H.264-encoded files working on my 1.33Ghz VAIO P, using the Cyberlink PowerDVD codecs (and Windows Media Player). It was completely smooth. However, not all HD content would be smooth; only the stuff that can be hardware decoded.

    Awful news regarding UK pricing.

X Series pricing STARTS from £1,299 ($2090) and rises up to £1,899 ($3060) depending on spec. All models feature an Atom CPU (which we knew already).

    Ouch. And ouch again!

On my Acer 751 I used Cyberlink Power DVD codec in MPC-HC.

In Windows 7 I believe WMP12 supports DXVA so additional codecs should not be necessary.

this should work "out of the box".

The TT is a great and underrated laptop (other than touchpad problems on an unknown % of units) that died an untimely death. I'd strongly recommend it if they're still available on clearance.

There's a noticeably large difference between a TT and a Z in terms of form factor/battery life/weight (& the fair comparison is probably between Z with extended battery vs TT, not the Z with the regular battery), and a noticeably large difference between the TT and the X in terms of CPU.

But it does seem like whatever niche the TT had is slowly getting squeezed out on both ends...

When I first read how codec affect things... I was uhm... now once I saw you guys' definition of Codec... I'm stunt... Just go to yahoo and search for "mega codec". It's the on of most completed and reliable codec out there. Having a few additional codec installed doesn't hard your computer because 1. they only become active when you're actually playing its specfic files 2. the physical size on your harddrive is irrelevant compared to all the indexing your computer does while you surf web.

GMA500 only plays 1080p video in Vista with Cyberlink PowerDVD codec.

This codec is not included in K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

b|lly, shame that you could not get it to work on your desktop. I updated my results on the other page.

I think those results seem a bit too low 1285 especially seeing this model comes with an SSD drive.

I was looking at some scores for netbooks with atom N processors and they get significantly more. May be the person that did those tests did something wrong. Anyway, in W7 this will handle basic tasks but it is quite a steep price that we have to pay in the EU.

PCMark includes a graphics test and GMA 950 is faster than GMA500, so it doesn't mean much. Unless you want to play simple games.

In normal usage the Atom 2.0Ghz will be faster than Atom 1.6GHz (big surprise ;) ).

Those results are still a bit to low though. It will be interesting reading reviews over the coming weeks.

Also, one of the X series strengths it cannot benefit from because it lacks an HDMI port. Hopefully this come along with Pinetrail.
