The Z2 configuration offered to the Singapore market comes without WWAN. It's rare to see Sony offering the option, in fact. They must think Singaporeans don't require mobile internet access. ;)

Anyway, it seems that Sony has yet to deliver the stock to their official retailers. I went to a handful of Sony stores around the City Hall area, and they were all on standby, awaiting the arrival of the much awaited Z2.

Weird, weird. After first getting emails from sony.nl that my Z2 would be sent out to the warehouse around August 4th, *then* getting an email that it has been delayed by two weeks (and offering me a free year of additional warranty), now my order has moved to "Completed orders" with status "Sent". Order was set to modified on August 3rd (which it wasn't yesterday).

Let's see when a tracking coed will be sent out...

Thanks, that's just stupid from Sony. I would much prefer having WWAN.
Does anyone know if I ordered from US or JP, is the WWAN locked ?

Just wanted to let you know that my CTO Z21 arrived this morning in France.

Yeah, now it's real, finally !!!

It's a black one with core I7, 3rd Gen 256 GB SSD, 8 Gb of RAM, Full HD screen and the DVD PMD.

    My first impressions are :

    - As I thought, the hinge looks and feels very special, and very fragile...

    - Apart from the hing, it feels tight and sturdy

    - very fast boot (about 20 seconds, I will check again once I will have removed some apps like Windows Live and McAfee)

    - beautiful screen, very slightly more glossy than the X11, with a little warmer colors, but really stunning overall !

    - nice backlit keyboard, and typing experience is nice so far

    - the trackpad clearly looks like plastic

    - the fan is spining constantly, but you can only hear it if you put it close to your hear. So it's very quiet while doing basic tasks

    Some pics here :

On the Norwegian site the colours are listed as "Black" and "Carbon Black", with the "Carbon Black" being the optional extra.

However, with the premade configs we get here, Carbon Black is standard.

Guys, I want to talk to you about ViDock:

I wrote to one who works in villageinstruments for ViDock and told me that implementation of Light Peak is really possible, but to faster the implementation he wants help to find out:

    - which connectors (specification, documentation)
    - specification of light peak and documentation
    - chips in use

In addition, in the following days (I think on facebook) he'll write an open letter to see how many people want ViDock for Light Peak...that's the main problem: we'll have to be all together to reach something.

If you find something, write here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/600942-vidock-4g-light-peak-z21-possible.html#post7782333

For those in Europe just now receiving their machines - can you tell me how many days from the time that you received the email that it's being built until you received your system?

I just got that notification this morning and I'm trying to get a rough guesstimate on how long it is from here.

Would be cool and I'd give my support, but I doubt that they would build a custom solution just for the Z2 (currently).

^ you must know that the last ViDock 4G has 3 different modules (and you can chose the one you want) which are eSata / Thunderbolt / Express Card .. that's why Village Instruments thinks that it's not a problem to add a module, cuz' modules are separated from the real ViDock 4G. So the real problem would be the NUMBER of people who would want it.

Anyway, if you find something, write and read here -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/600942-vidock-4g-light-peak-z21-possible.html#post7782333

That's where we'll collect infos to be sent to Village Instruments :)

Yes, mine still says the 17th. I really have to think that this is wrong. The email also indicates that it should be shipping in a couple of days. We're getting close now. It's killing me. I feel like a little kid waiting for Summer Vacation. It always felt like it was so far away.

You must have missed it by |---| that much :)

I went to the Sony shop in Funan around 6:15pm, and they had stock then. They said it had arrived about 30-60 minutes before hand. It looked like they had about 7-8 left (the boxes were just behind the counter). Had both Gold and Black in stock.

I'm now a proud owner of a Z2 :) Though I haven't taken it out of the box yet - typing this on my Z1 :)

your best bet is to look at the manual (posted within the last 20 pages?), there are probably specifications listed

Just got off the phone with them. It really amazes me what helpless little robots they are there in "customer care". They are stil repeating the "your estmated ship date shows as Aug. 17". I tried to reason with them logically and explained that if I were to place a brand new order that the new order would show Aug. 12. I also explained that I received the letter stating that the system is now being built. I just wanted to know in general, how long from that until they actually ship. She still tried to say Aug. 17. I asked here if it really takes 12 days to build from the time they start and she simply again quoted Aug. 17.

A car can be built in a matter of hours once production starts, but a laptop, no, that takes 12 days

Obviously the people they hire are not expected to do any simple logical thinking on their own so I guess I'll simply need to shut up now and be patient.

I never had one I just experimented with custom resolutions.

I could NOT get the Z1 to drive the U3011 @ WQXGA, it maxed out at 1920x1200

    Locked according to Conics

Link me up to the facebook letter

I would if I had one. I don't care about warranties. I am probably going to wait for the refresh or just get it from Conics if I can't wait any longer. The only way I can justify getting this new lappy is if I can get a new different color, I must have Gold/Brown.

Not sure - how do I find out what the SATA controller is?

    In response to earlier posts:
    a) no noticeable keyboard flex, unless you really press down hard on the keys. The key travel is very shallow, so light touches are all you need

    b) trackpad works OK. The physical buttons might not be excellent, but using a single tap on the trackpad works just fine. Personally I don't use trackpads much (almost always have an external mouse), so I'm not really an expert

    c) no noticeable fan noise - have only done a few things - install some updates and now creating recovery media

    d) the external drive doesn't vibrate any more (or any less) than using a standard external drive (e.g. the USB variety that is common now). I have it in the horizontal position (i.e. sitting on its rubber feet). it might vibrate more in the vertical position in the stand.

Edit: recovery media can be created on a USB stick (16GB) instead of multiple DVDs. I'm creating both, but keeping a small USB stick around rather than 4x DVDs sounds sensible.

SG$3999. No bonus/extras. The Sony shop I went to didn't have any of the accessories available yet (cases, sheet battery etc), and there's no online ordering in SG.

The sales guy did say that prevous Z1 power supplies will work with the Z2 (will test tonight). I'm assuming that this is only to power the laptop itself, and not the PMD+laptop. The brick for that is substantially larger than the brick for the laptop only.

If you don't mind, could you just take a look at the larger power brick and tell me how many Amps output it is rated for?

I have a very nice "stick" style power supply from Sony that also has USB chrarging ports built-in. I just want to see it it's rated output will match that large brick.

Pretty sure. The VAIO App says "16GB". The recovery partition is about 14GB of data, and if you want to use DVDs, you need 4x of them. All that points to needing around 14-15GB of space.

    Yup.

Yeah. The sales associate at Juzz 1 called me at about 630 informing me that the stocks were in. However, I had to pick up my fiance from work and if there's one thing more important than the Z, it's her. :D

Congrats! I'm sure you're loving your Z right now. I'll join you tomorrow as I've placed a deposit with the Sony Centre in Suntec. I'm excited! :)

Leave it to Sony to release a flagship product without accessories. ;)

Anyway, the sales associate at Sony Centre in Suntec mentioned that he could throw in some freebies like a flash drive and AntiVirus software. Whilst they aren't exactly valuable extras, some free gifts are better than none, I suppose.

BTW, what kind of laptop bag was included with your purchase?

An aside - It's nice to note that all the stocks for the black Z2 were sold out at Funan. There are still people who love premium laptops that aren't fruity. :D
