We only await for the confirmation on the HDMI port now, since its not in specs but we can see it on the photos.

"Computer Type : Lifestyle PC "
Sony really does not like the word netbook.

OMG too small for me: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/vaio-p-hands-on/#comments (video too)

confirmed - no hdmi - it is a connector for vga out and ethernet out
-
Wow, definitely an amazing device! Perfect weight, and near-perfect size (a little too wide for my taste). Price is a little high, but acceptable for all the features you're getting.
If the standard 60GB HDD is a 1.8" drive, this thing is gonna boot up very slow on Vista. Probably better off to spring for the SSD option, or wait until Windows 7 is out. A 2.5" drive would be alright, but I don't think there's room in there for one.
Anyone know if the GPS works without activating an account with Verizon for mobile broadband?? On my TZ, the GPS only works if an account is activated with Sprint - otherwise it's disabled. In one of Jenn's pics over at Pocketables.net, a sign for the P said "Integrated 3G Wireless Mobile Broadband and GPS - Independent of Internet access". So maybe it's a separate GPS module, and not aGPS from the broadband card?
EDIT: From Sonystyle - "Built-in real-time GPS lets you navigate even the most unfamiliar places with ease. No internet connection required."
Also, they really should've added a backlit keyboard to this thing! -
Yes GPS works without verizon
-
1600x768 at 8". That would give you 222 DPI. Sony better sells it with a magnifying glass.

Very nice. I see that they added the 1.6 processor as an option as well. Lol they are even doing it in my favourite colour green as well which tempts me even more to get one. I also like computers with trackpoints as well. I think that I will stick with what i have got though.
I think that they should have offered a smaller SSD drive as well to bring the price down for the SSD model. I mean for a travel laptop you don't really need a 128 SSD drive.
Battery life looks like it is excellent as well.
I wish that my TX had a built in 3G card but i can live with that.
The display i find my TX just about bearable with a 11.1 in 1366x768 i don't how the P compares to that ratio.
This is going to for sure affect the sales of Sony TT. -

Japan's VAIO type P is offering Intel Z540 (1.86ghz) option!
http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-a/Product/P/index.html (in Japanese)
There is also an option to replace the WWAN/GPS card with a 1seg TV tuner (free TV in Japan, in case you don't want to pay for HSPA). Top configured device (1.86ghz, 128GB SSD, most other options) comes in at about ¥145,000, or a little over US$1500.
As long as SonyStyle US holds out on the faster CPU, I think places like P1 are going to get a lot of business importing the P from Japan
Another thing: it appears that the display/LAN adapter snaps onto the AC adapter and will feed power/lan/display directly to the P with just one cable:

XP downgrade discs would have been a good idea with this netbook or whatever it is called. This computer is not meant for anything intensive but still given the GPU what it is it is not really suited to Vista. It would though handle XP pretty well.
I did read that Windows 7 is going to be less resource hungry so maybe in the future upgrading to that when it is released would be a good idea.
Obviously if you are wanting more power in a smaller form factor then the TT would be the one to go for.
The 6 cell battery is going to be a must for most people i think and that is going to push the price of the base model price up.
Edited to add:
I have been looking at the spec sheet for the GMA 500 graphics and it is not as bad as i thought it was. I see that it was especially built for the atom processor and it has Direct X 10.1 support. Still the XP discs would be nice.

I agree XP would be a much better OS for the P. But as long as there aren't any special drivers (off the top of my head, the only snag might be the WWAN/GPS card), you should be able to install XP on your own without too much trouble. You'll just need to get an external CD drive.
The batteries are a little breath of fresh air for Sony: the standard (2cell) is US$89, and the extended (4cell) is US$129. At 1.5lbs with the standard battery, I can't imagine the total package would exceed 2lbs with the extended -- still very portable. (2cell/4cell specs taken from SonyStyle US; I don't know if they're typos or if there's something different about them compared to the specs on the UK page.) -
VAIO Z 13.1" 1366x768 = 120 DPI
VAIO TZ 11.1 1366x768 = 141 DPI
VAIO P 8" 1600x768 = 222 DPI

Hey I wonder what the two buttons to the right of the mouse buttons are in this picture?
http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2009/0108/hotrev_15.jpg
The one on the right looks like it might have something to do splitting the screen in half, no clue about the one on the right. -
Sweet! The picturebook is back and with a vengeance too.
-
I wonder when will these come to Europe? I've been wanting a high-quality netbook for a long time.
-
It says mid Feb on sony style dot uk dot com site!
So I guess they should arrive late feb. -
-
DPI = dots per inch
But it all depends on the quality of the screen! Generaly more DPI is better, because you can get more on small area, but screen must be awesome for your eyes to handle that. -
I am impressed by the design...is a Sony! The price is a little high imo. Seens like a tiny TX.
At Conics is available CTO with the 1.86 ghZ, 64 GB SSD and 3G/HSDPA!
http://conics.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_40&products_id=401
Maybe this is going to be the ideal supplement to my Z! -
i find that Sony singapore sucks.
the vaio P comes without GPS / 3G-HSPDA feature.
and it cost $1.6k
honestly, Sony should fire those idiots who made those decisions to remove these features.
what's the use of a Vaio P then??

Very good pictures here: http://www.notebookjournal.de/news/vaio-minis-in-der-redaktion-1195
It's even lighter than I thought: - Gewicht (ohne Zubehör): 0,638 kg -
1600 Dollars for a "super netbook" or a "light laptop"??
-
It's tiny, it's light and I've been wanting one since I first saw it.
This is why I've been happy for a while on this guys, it's the P! -

Same here, I resisted all the netbook-storm because I wanted to see what Sony will offer. I absloutely love it, is really amazing with the specs I wanted. Only 600 gramms!!
I hope I will find a better deal than this:
http://vaio.sony.it/view/ShowProduc...ns&category=VP+P+Series&assetid=1218032875586
1.499 Euros! OMG, what are they thinking? Do they live in the 90's still?
The only think that I hoped that the hard drive would be 2'5 but is the slow 1'8 60GB. I must consider the SSD (hopefully they are going to be options less expensive than the 128GB). -
For the lower-specs models (1.33 ghZ, 60 Gb 4200rpm HD) the price is 999 euro. All colours are the same price.
But if you want SSD and better CPU the price grows significantly. Why in Europe we have to pay more for the same products? Oh well, I wll have to import again. Sonystyle is crazy!
@Rahul,
Is this what you were expecting man? -
ITs beings sold for 850 pounds in UK, which is around 900 euros.
-
The other icon looks like XMB (xross media bar), which is probably to start the instant-on OS.
For those of you who complain about the DPI, the UX series actually has a higher DPI, at 263.
Now for some reason the P series page has been taken off from Sonystyle USA. It can still be accessed but the price/details are now gone. I wonder what's up. I hope they offer more color choices on the $1199+ models. -
it, the European models apparently have HSDPA, but from what I read, it appears that in the US, you're locked to Verizon CDMA so you can't use the thing when traveling. Then again, the Sony Style store is very vague on the broadband spec.
They're also only offering the 1.33 Ghz version on the Sonystyle US store, but Dynamism is already selling 1.86 Ghz versions from Japan - now that makes a big difference versus other netbook type devices. Anyone know if the broadband card can be swapped out? I would love a 1.86 Ghz with worldwide GSM/UMTS support...
