Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

Is Sony really serious with those big bezels? Small screen equals small price? Looks like a TX?
-
Is it true this picture? Seems like a HP Mini Note!
But is very thin eh? Any idea of the price yet? -
too much bezel for my taste. I think sony should have made the screen bigger...wider. Maybe a 9" in the same enclosure. (this is assuming the picture is accurate).
-
Last picture is pretty bad, but thats because it was taken off a screen.
I am sure it looks nicer in person. -
You know what would be awesome. If sony extend the screen to the max(almost) of the lid and put the webcam inside the letter "O" of sony. Oh and change the bezel color to something else.
-
I am sure this will be the next upgrade version.
You need to leave out space for improvement!
-
No chip news yet. Looks like it has hdmi though which if true is impressive for a netbook
-
On a side note with the webcam, wouldn't it be hard to use since it's unsymmetrical? You would have a hard time allowing the person on the other side to have a clear-direct view. Only a "side" shot. -
If that screen is 1600x768 I'd hate to see what an ultra-wide screen would fill the entire thing.
-
HDMI with Atom ?
Like, mission impossible 4? -
is the Atom confirmed?

Those bezels are definately out then for me - that was one of the big reasons I didn't like the Asus N10 at the end of the day....
The screen should be the main focal point not the massive bezels on the sides!
Then again it might have something to do with pricing..meh time will tell -
How much wider do you want it? It's already 1600x768. I think if you're gonna complain about something on this laptop, screen res wouldn't be one of them. It already blows every other netbook out of the water in that regard. (Except the new HP mini 2140 with option for 1366x768). How upsetting can a bezel really be if the screen inside it is fine?
-
-
looks are a purely personal taste thing regardless of the product and some people will be put off by s huge bezel which IMO makes it look cheap and nasty...regardless of the screen resolution inside!
Glad I bought a TT -
is it just me, or does anyone else not believe that this notebook runs on 1600x768? seems that everything will be pretty tiny at that resolution and screen size
-
1600x768 at 8" means 220dpi, which is twice that of most LCD displays, however there are a number of smartphone devices with 300dpi displays.
It's definitely small, and for most people will be overkill, but it's not impossibly small. But as noted earlier in the thread, the resolution would be stunning for 2.35:1 movies [edit] although the CPU is going to be a huge limiting factor. -
Anyhow, I guess what I was getting at was that for the screen to be any wider the resolution would be ridiculous, and that in general I think the screen is pretty awesome compared to most other netbooks.
But I take your point, aesthetically maybe it's not the best look. I think it was unavoidable if they were to achieve their desired goal of having the biggest keyboard possible while making the thing as small as possible in every other way. The only solution that would have been even better would be to have the screen actually go all the way to the edges, but I'm sure there are reasons why producing a screen of this resolution was impractical.
But imagine if they had done this? How awesome would that be? Put in some proprietary software for diving the desktop however you like, so you could maximise windows on each half of the screen - it would be like running dual displays. Great for multi-tasking. -
So. You've seen the basic specs. What price point would it have to be for your to buy it?
$599? $799? $999? More? -
There are still two very important things missing: LCD and battery.
Answer this, and we will give you price -
How often has Sony failed on the LCD front (besides the LCD on the new PSP...)?
-
Good point.
799$ or more, if there will be great battery life. -
Are the initial specs confirmed? 1600x768 resolution, Atom CPU, and option of SSD in the hard drives? Yep, the only think I am not worried is th quality of the LCD...I mean is Sony! I want to see too the battery life and if it has 3G.
I think 599$ for the 160 GB 5400rpm, and 799$ for the SSD. -
No the intial specs are not confirmed - not the processor at least. Screen res, 3g,overall size, hdd size are confirmed.
-
If it has battery life comparable to my TZ and if with 2gigs of ram it can run the basics (web surfing, word processing) acceptably in Vista, then I'd probably be prepared to pay 1.5k (AUD) for it.
Although, if it's fragile, if the case is not particularly sturdy, then I probably wouldn't. Not when the HP mini 2140 is coming with it's sweet aluminium case and also hi-res screen. This thing is supposed to be super portable, if when you put it in your bag you have to carry that bag like it's full of eggs, then I'm not interested. Please make this thing durable sony. Sometimes I think that in their quest for thinness, durability goes out the window. I'd happily take an extra cm of thickness for some piece of mind. -

So we have a screen confirmation!
Now we only wait for the CPU and battery life -
Well done. You beat everyone

Processor IS 1.3 atom - boooo!! -
.
Battery life is solid, but nothing impressive.
Still waiting for possible OLED screen like in new OQO? -
EVDO is boo too. Wish it was GSM/HSDPA.
-
$900 ... the only reason I ever looked at netbooks is that the are pretty cheap. This one's not gonna interest me much
.
So the 1600x768 resolution is confirmed? That's actually pretty neat. -
Vaio P is only for USA for now AFAIK, and AFAIK there is no HSDPA in USA, or?
This is not a netbook, for ing sakeso stop comparing it to one.
-
-
-
Good point, but its above everything else that is currently on the market. Check the weight and screen - nothing out there to compare with it.
Thou there suppose to be a high res HP mini note out? So if Hp mini is 500€, vaio P deserves a price of 700€. -
evdo - does this mean no 3G for europe do you think ??
-
I'm pretty happy about it, but would still take a Raon Everun note over this - dual core/AMD graphics versus Atom/IGP, but I guess Sony will win in battery life.
The price is also OK - $900 is not that bad for a small Sony laptop. -
Very, very unfortunately, Sony has with this P model designed a terrible location and size of the right shift key (again). (The T series has a MUCH better design on this point.) The right shift key for the P series model is located in such a place on the keyboard that the problem of misprinting is HUGE, that one easily (mis)hits the arrow up key, for instance, instead. In spite of the small keyboard, I hope Sony will change this common problematic location and size of the right shift key. As it now is placed on the keyboard, fluent writing is made very difficult.
