That's probably because Intel's integrated graphics X4500 has been delayed. So the models becoming available are the one's with dedicated Ati graphics.

The new lineup promotional page on sonystyle.com says announcements at 8pm. Anybody know what time that is in the UK (GMT)?

Additionally, reading extremetech this morning i came across an article which mentions an interesting program which may come in handy on the hi-res Z:

I haven't tried it personally but it doesn't sound too bad.

The american site mentioned updates at 9:00pm Eastern Time, which is 2am London time I think.

Doesnt the site list 9PM ET? If thats the case, then GMT is 4 hours ahead. London is 1 hour ahead of GMT, so you should tune in at 9PM + 5 hours = 2AM Tuesday 15th.

Australians are +10 GMT, so we should tune in at 9PM + 10 hours = 7AM Tuesday 15th.

    Hope thats correct :D

Yep you're right. My mistake there. I misread the pm for am. I'm in China at the moment, so that'd be GMT +8, or tomorrow morning for people in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the like.

That's what no one knows, well except nixon maybe. But as you may have noticed I like to speculate :)

So I say no. At first, this week I expect, there will be only a couple of fixed models, no CTO yet.

One of the models will be VGN-SR150FN: Intel P8400 2.26Ghz, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 13.3¨ LED, ATI HD3470/128 MB WVB Price: $1500

Ah, yes, read it wrong. 9pm.

However whether it was a 1am or 2am GMT announcement i'm still going to have to catch it tomorrow... :(

 Australian Prices are so bloated, I can't justify buying here anymore when I can get it from Japan or the US for half the price with delivery and VOS (worldwide warranty). I want my money to stay in the country but i just can't wear the hurt.

any ideas why its so painfully high?

Wow the pictures provided by this article really make the FW look very nice. I wish they could have a similar external design, but a little lighter, maybe with a smaller screen.

That's hot! A really sleek design and and very pleasing on the eye. And even though it's a 16.4" monitor the whole unit doesn't look heavy or cumbersome at all. Well done Sony design team

Wait, so the VGN-SR19XN might not be released at the same time as the one with ATI graphics?

EDIT: Oops. Beaten to the punch! So, how 'bout those Vaios, eh? I think I've got my heart set on the SR model with the ATI card.

It looks like FW will be available in two styles. White/silver and black/silver. The new pictures are white/silver, the specsheets show the black/silver style.

Shame about the wasted space on the sides of the keyboard. They had room to put a numeric keyboard for instance like some larger notebooks do or some extra media/function buttons. :(

Exactly what I felt. But overall the design is nice though....

Until now, at the custom made models you could choose between silver and black keyboard...so it seems that in case of FW they changed silver one to white...it's really screaming for key backlight for this series ,)

Anyway... my main interest is in the magic Z....hope we'll know more in 9 hours :)

It seems FW, SR and Z will start selling the first week of august. So that should not be a problem with the integrated graphics.

I believe I was wrong here. First week of august seems more accurate. It's what 'our source' has said.

You may get your wish, The SR and Z will most likely be similar in design, lighter, and a smaller screen (13.1, 13.3).

What type of ATi card were you hoping for the high-end models?

8 hours Left, I really hope there will be photos of the Z? According to Sonystyle.com, information will be released at 6pm Pacific Time, July 14th.

who says it will take 3-4 weeks? These things are mass produced, you should be able to get one right away....It's not like Sony is the leader in lap top sales...most of the world buys Dell, HP, and Lenovo

I badly need a laptop by August 15 so I really hope the Z, BX and FW models are widely available by then. Still don't know what to choose and would really like to compare them in real life in a local shop...

edit; or to see a little review movie with all 3 models on YouTube! *HINT* :p

Well you can decide one thing right now.
    Small or big.

The Z with a 13 inch screen is quite small, the BX and FW with a 15/16,4 inch screen are much larger.

Thus if you want something small and light that you can carry around everyday I would recommend the Z.

If size and mass (weight) are not an issue... well, then you'll have to compare them.

    Yea, even that's a problem!

I was actually aiming for the 15,4" successor of the FZ-series (which I already felt was on the large side), but then the FW appeared with its 16,4". I am afraid that's just too big...

I want style and performance which makes me think the BX is not exactly the perfect thing either. And then finally the Z... Seems to have it all, but this one might wel be just too small. I'll be using my notebook a lot and for everything, and reading the whole recent discussion about possible eye-strain resulting from a 1600x900 resolution on a 13,1" screen, that didn't exactly help either.

Currently I am still working with my first notebook; a 15" thing. I never tried anything smaller (nor anything larger btw), so I don't really know what to expect. I think I'll just have to see all models next to each other...

Ofcourse I hope he is wrong and we can configure our Z's tonight on Sonystyle with SSD :)

WTF so they are going to reveal them today...making it a huge deal, then going to make us wait another month until we can buy?

stupid. People don't have a lot of time to buy before school begins. Bad move on intel's? or sony's? part for the delay...

Of course...people could just buy an older laptop if needed, but that's not the point. Whatever, I personally don't need one until late september  but then im laptopless...im using my 5 year old desktop which has little power to do anything that I planned to do over my summer vacation...OH WELL.

Well just like other laptops being released now with the new centrino 2, availability will be right before the all important school market, august/september and so an august release makes sense.

It is partly intel's fault due to the delay but rushing into a laptop is not always a good idea. less than 6 hours now.

Ot they'll take your money now and then deliver it in 2 weeks.

But who knows they might actually start selling some models right away. Since they're making anouncements at Sonystyle.com it seems very possible. Sonystyle is a sales site.

Phil you are indeed true. It is a sales sight and not just sony.com. It would make sense that on that advertised date, THEY BETTER make them available for SALE seeing that it is truly a SALES SITE.

    :) i'M SO ANXIOUS.
