nevermind
edit.. i take back my Sony cursing.
-
Seems like the price difference between SR and Z is around $200 with the following upgrades:
SR has ATI HD340, Z has Nvidia 9300M GS and Intel graphics (X4500?)
SR weights 1.9kg, Z weights 1.49kg.
SR has no HDMI, Z has HDMI.
But from the look, seems like SR looks better. Is there anything else i may have missed? -
no HDMI on SR!!! dang... when did I miss that! I don't want to get overpriced Z just to get HDMI
-
is there gonna be any sr models under $1300 with a graphics card?
if so..that's too gud to be treewwwww!!!! i'll buy one the first day they come hope...
PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS A POSSIBILITY
..otherwise i'll have to go with the FW model:S
-
No HDMI on initial 1xx models. The illustrations in the SR manual show a space reserved for a port that bears a striking resemblance to a HDMI port. Besides - first gen hardware is almost always a gamble.
-
Could anyone please elaborate a bit on the way the top-end Z-model and the top-end FW-model relate to each other? I am not very into all those technical aspects... Are they of about similar performance? Which graphics card is better? If money is not an issue, nor size and neither the presence of Blu-ray, should I better get a top-end Z or a top-end FW?
Your insights are really appreciated! -
So what do you suggest? To wait for a refresh of the SR or Z in 3-4 months?
Better having more features right away imo. -
Anybody know what happened to Intel?? Where's the press release for Montevina and Centrino 2?
-
that was my point. How can they start selling new laptops right away if Intel hasn't even announced Montevina...??
oh, and about 3 hours left!!! -
Here's some info:
The lack of available Centrino 2 notebooks hints the rumor was at least partly right, and eWeek now reports that Intel is indeed gearing up for a launch on July 14. The launch will take place during an event in San Francisco, the news site explains, and several notebook makersincluding HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Fujitsuwill have systems ready as soon as Intel gives the green light.
It's about 3PM in San Francisico. Intel's web site is quiet. Somehing has to happen soon. I want that green light!!! -
Uhh, we have Centrino 2 Toshiba models in our store and we can put them out on display whenever we feel like it. And I'm in Australia
-
Yea but thats probably Centrino 2 using Santa Rosa chips. So...
And I think we should be able to order it today and then have a 2-3 week delivery/crafting wait time. That would reasonable and make more sense from a selling prospective.
OK I'm in new york, so 2.5 hrs to go. -
No, its the P7350
-
lol@ us when the time comes and it ends up being a flash video and nothing more! haha.
-
are the P7000 series processors with montevina?
I thought it was only on the P8400, P8600, P9500, T9600, and the X9100.
EDIT
7XXX include montevina. Toshiba had announced one of their new series earlier.
-
this has some information about that Toshiba with p7350

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The P7000 series will be budget Centrino 2's probably. But since they are still 'P' then they have 25w TDP. -
now the real question is... with only 1.5 hours left until Sony's announcement, are we going to hit 100 page count?
-
I think this might be the longest threasd ever
You might.
I'm looking foreward to actually seeing the specs and finding reasons to like my SZ7.
(I'd still like it if its weaker just because I follwed the development and finally got one after about 2,5 years ( SZ7) )
So I'm a bit sentimental about the machine, and I'm consevative when it comes to design.
But still it will be nice to compare.
Well, then, good luck, all the best.
Its 1.22 AM where I am, I'm off to bed, good night! -
we will guys......we're too addicted to this to not hit 100. Yea i 7XXX is probably budget. I wouldn't wanna actually get that.
-
Sure we will.
-
Sure we will.
-
With threads like this I HATE notebookreview.com for not having the "read all pages at once" function on the forum.
Reading page by page is .. urgh .. and I skip a lot of content because of it.
Damn money eating advertizers :/ -
Sure we will.
-
eeek... that would most likely bring my lappy to a crawl....
-
lol more the reason for you to get a new vaio .......
lol.
-
well, not really ideal, but it's a solution. You can view 50 posts at once if you click on Thread Tools > Show Printable Pages that brings down to 20 pages out of 98.

sorry kind of offtopic, but a quick question: will we hear of other manufacturers announcing their montevina lineups tonight too, or will that be tomorrow (or even later)?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
By tomorrow morning most manufacturers should have their Centrino 2 laptops announced. -
Both the SR and the Z are on a brand new platform. There are known issues with the (Intel) integrated graphics on that platform. If you're current computer is comparable (in specs) why wouldn't you wait until the kinks are ironed out. Prices probably will be a bit more reasonable then as well.
On the other hand if you haven't upgraded your notebook within the last three or four years I can see why you might be chomping at the bits to upgrade. Buying first generation hardware is not without it's risks. You should be aware of this. -
well its been a long wait..1 more hour to go.. It's been fun keeping up with this thread. it did a great job distracting me from my homework, but that's okay
I just hope that prices are reasonable...
Question/opinion from you all please:
If SR is too expensive for me, would I be better off just getting a CR that is fully loaded (i.e. T9300 2.5, 4 GB, 320 GB HD, extended batt) for around 1,500 or would the SR's new features/CPU be worth getting lower specs (i.e. 2.26 GHZ CPU, 2 GB Ram, 160 GB HD, ect..) for the same price??
I'm debating... also I was thinking that I might as well just get the lowest I can and just upgrade if needed... like add RAM (DDR3 even
) down the line and replace the harddrive if I end up really desiring to. But an extended battery later on could mean 200+ dollars on it's own..and I've yet to see a preconfiged lappy with stock large capacity battery
what do you all think? -
hp and toshiba announced about theirs already. No one knows what dell is going to do.
-
Speaking of Dell, check this out:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-9990584-1.html?hhTest=1&part=rss&tag=feed&subj=Crave -
I saw an HP dv5t in Best Buy yesterday with that processor. What is it?
-
the SR will probably be priced as an ultraportable so its always gonna look expensive next to the CR. SR should have better battery life, a better screen and have the updates that come with montevina. So think of whats more important to you.
EDIT: Also the SR is supposed to come with 2 year warranty, standard. -
Hey, my last post was # 1,000 for me!
-
While this might be true to some degree. I bought 1st Gen SZ and no issues
-
the P7350 is the low end, budget cpu offered by intel with montevina. It'll be the cheapest out of the lot and have the worst specs.
-
so no word on a sr model with a graphics card thats under $1300....Any hope for that
?
-
Would the SR have better battery life on standard battery than a CR with Extended though? i know you cant give me numbers yet, but that's what i'm concerned about.
-
Congrats.
-
And there it is...
100 Pages.
-
Aha, so I laid my eyes on a Montevina CPU...but it didn't say Centrino 2. So it must have been Santa Rosa chipset?? Confusing. I presume this was a Best Buy-only hybrid that HP jimmied up for them. Close but no cigar.
-
The SR should come with 2 years standard?
Is this going to be something new? I have seens 2 years on ALL models in some europen coutries, but in USA the warranty is always 12 monhts...dont know why was that so...
So the new models will have 2 years standard?? -
I wouldn't be too surprised if the SR broke over 3 hrs on standard battery on normal settings. I can't really expect it to do better than an extended battery on the CR, but i think it'll be close enough.
The P7350 is on the new toshiba(well at least new announced one.) Montevina is on Centrino 2, don't think its on anything else. The one on the best buy was that toshiba it was announced a while back with a few of them out to stores/reviewers already. HP will start on from the P8400 and have upgrade option for the higher end ones upto the X9100. -
have these 2 pieces of info been posted?

Duke2007 what do u consider too expensive because the CR and SR are priced under two different sections. Ultraportables are going to look expensive compared to the CR(standard everyday notebook). Even if you look at the current ultraportables to the CR, the CR will look incredibly cheaper.
EDIT: You might want to compare the CR to the BZ as they will be closer. -
hey Hind, it says in what you posted that the SR will come ina premium model... wonder how much the regular will be... I like the LED screen idea... that's about it. Also the GPU is better than the CR's...
expensive to me is over 1,500. i want it for school use, but I also make music with software that can be demanding. My T7300 is ample though.. I never had any issues with it and that was only 2.0 GHZ and never needed anything more.
EDIT: Well I guess I just answered my own question.
Either I...
A. Get a CR with overloaded specs..that will likely not benefit me at all (as I said 2.0 GHZ was ample enough..and vista don't use 4 GB for 32 bit which I use)
B. Get a slick, new, lighter, cooler, more power efficient SR that will be around the sample price as a loaded CR but with specs that will likely be ample or slightly above par than my T7300 2.0 GHZ laptop (which i gave to my dad).
I guess A seems logical for bragging rights... but I honestly never stressed my 2.0 GHZ CPU. so I guess B is good choice
