I can't see any fuse in the picture except the one I circled in red.
It designated as FBB5. F usually stands for fuse

Just to let you know that I successefully fixed a Sony VAIO PCG-71811M with the backlight problem by soldering a wire in the F4 fuse.
    thank you.

    Hello,
Just to confirm that the fuse for the backlight of the HP 15 D008SV is the FBB5 as mentioned by ngvuanh. After I had it jumpered, everything worked properly.
    Thanks for your contribution.

For your laptop, F16 is LED fuse. If it is not blown, then you have a different issue with back light supply.

If you did the search in this thread, you could have fixed your laptop by now.
Your laptop fuse has been located in many posts in this thread. It is F16 on the other side of the board.

Okay so i found the f16 but there doesn't seem to be a fuse there? Has it fallen off? Or is it one of the smaller ones around, and if so which one? I am really sorry for bugging you guys, but I really need to work this out as I dont have any $ to pay for it to be fixed:-( [IMG] i know you said f16 but are you sure it is not the f15 here? Having the same issue with a Toshiba Portege Z935-ST2N01. Can you please help me. As is evident from the pic, I tried to bridge the one labeled N near the video connector, but it did nothing. I tried the one next to the N as well. Rather than sitting here risking damaging the board further I thought I'd ask. It does output video to an external monitor. Screen works fine when tested in another laptop, so I can rule that out as well. It has to be on the board, I just can't find it. Help? Thanks for your time

Ok, I replaced the screen on VPCCB490X with battery off. I connected the new screen and tested it before assembling everything together and it worked perfect. I disconnected the battery again and assembled everything but once I assembled everything, the new screen does not work. It acts as if no power is going to it. I connected the old screen (with battery off) and it works. I can see it boot up. This means this is not a fuse issue right? The new screen flashes on and then off right before windows gets to the login screen. I contacted the company I bought it from and they led me to this forum about this fuse issue...thanks in advance for the help.

Hey guys, so. I bought a multimeter to check my fuse but i really dont know what setting to use and what sort of number I should be looking for? [IMG] this is the multimeter. But can anyone tell me where exactly the dial should be? My laptop is a sony E series and ngvuanh (thanks for your help bro!) told me the fuse is probably the f15 that needs testing? Can someone please tell me what I should be doing please? Thanks for your help I really really appreciate the help

I read online that it should be on the continuity setting which is the plus symbol so Ive put it on (at the 5oclock if it were a clock) and then tested it and it stays at 1? Is that the right setting? And should it be registering something if it was still fine? Im so sorry for being such a dümbaśs! I honestly appreciate the help from you guys, it means a lot. So to clarify it shows 1when on that setting and then once on the fuse it still shows 1?

Can anyone please tell me how to test this fuse? I'm an absolute retárd and cant work it out.

Edit: so ive been doing it wrong all along I think. That setting was for diodes(?). I put it on 20m ohms and the base reading is a 1. But once I test the fuse it says 0.01 does that mean the fuse is fine? Once again sorry to spam here, and thank you for your time.

So if it reads 0.01 would that mean its blown? Cause I bought a new screen and the backlight isnt working with that either. What should I do now? Should I just bridge it and hope for the best? And thank you for the reply Ngvuanh I appreciate the help.

Hi, my Vaio VPCCA290X seems to have the same problem. Only the backlight does not work. Linked are the pictures of both sides of my motherboard near the connector. Can someone please point out which fuse I can short circuit to fix it? Thank you very much.

I know this post may be old, but by both sides, do you mean both sides of the motherboard?

I've run into a backlight problem on a cq57 as well. Tried a different led screen I had laying around and still no backlight. I did find the fbb4 fuse along with the fbb1, 2, and 3 fuses on the top side of the motherboard, tried jumping them, but still nothing.

    Any other areas to check

Iv uploaded some pics of the area, and circled one fbb4 that i checked, also just checked the continunity on fbb4 and my meter buzzed, and fbb4 looks like it might be good. Is there any other fuses I should go after.

FBB4 is LED fuse as I read in schematic. You should check voltage on both end of the fuse.
Make sure it is about +19V

I know it's on the motherboard somewhere, because I plugged in another screen I had laying around, and still same results.

Any other places I can check?

Glad I found this forum guy's, in 11 years of repairing laptops on a regular basis I've never had to remove a battery from a laptop when it's switched off to replace the screen and found myself with the same problem on a VPCEB4 laptop.

The fuse was so small I missed it when testing every fuse I could see on there before coming across this forum and seeing it was the very tiny fuse with the letter H or N on it, can't remember now but after replacing it, it works fine. Many kind thanks to you guys, my customer's GF will be a very happy girl as she was very stressed out by it all.

    Regards guys,Teck
