Hi, Gang!
Whoa, now that's weird. I'd placed my order on the 6th, and my receipt suggested a shipping date of 3/19. I just logged on again today, and the shipping date is now listed as 3/8 - in other words, today! While I rather doubt that I'll see that shipping confirmation letter tomorrow, I'll keep my fingers crossed. If indeed it happens, I'll be quite excited to receive it that early. I suppose it's possible that there are so few of us loonies around buying the highest-end configuration to keep this unit more available than they'd planned on, but I somehow doubt it - it's probably just an online error.
I guess I'll just wait and see!
Cheers!

I finally got around to calling Sony.
The representative said the orders for the VPCZ11FHX/XQ have been delayed and I should expect shipment on 3/19. No big surprise here since that is the date I saw when I placed the order.
So far, so good. Just as long as the date is met. I dropped an order for a Lenovo W510 with the FHD multi-touch screen due to chronic delays. Apparently Lenovo can't source LCD screens in any volume due to labor issues in China.
If memory serves, Sony manufactures most of their own screens in a shared plant with Samsung. The joint venture is called S-LCD Corp, or something. Don't know if this includes laptop screens or just regular big screens. -
VPC-Z117GG/X (HK Version),
Color: Premium Carbon/Black(Keyboard),
Windows 7 Professional (Eng/CHT/CHS),
Adobe Premiere Elements 8, Photoshop Element 8(*not trial version),
Core i7 620m, 8GB-DDR3, GT330M w/1GB,
FullHD Adobe RGB96% Screen,
256GB(4 x 64GB RAID 0) SSD, DVD-RW(7mm),
3 x USB, WiFi w/MIMO x 2, Fingerprint w/TPM,
Noise Cancelling HD Audio w/HeadSet(MDR-NC021LP),
English Keyboard w/Backlight,
Standard 6 Cells battery, Standard Size PSU(VGP-AC19V32).
Around USD$2,600(HKD$19,980)
Look around in Japan, US, Canada, UK, Taiwan & China, looks like that is the most cheapest offer.
I would like to get a BD-RW also, but didn't offer with any HK version,
and too expensive to have a BD drive in other place.
JP need add 50,000Yen(around USD$550) just swap the DVD to BD.
If choice the same spec from Japan, it cost 306,800Yen(around USD$3,400),
so I choice the HK version finally. -
I just got an email saying that they were starting on my system. Maybe it will ship in a week?
-
edit: My order just changed to "Ready-to-ship"! It's shipping out tomorrow according to SonyStyle.com. -
US and I did it online.
I got an email this morning that I thought claimed that it was shipped. -
Congrats shodanjr_gr, ronaldheld! Post as many pics as you are able and give us a mini review.
I really hope Sony doesn't have shipment delays. I'm still rehashing pro's and con's on the amount of money I'm dropping on this bad boy. It is in Sony's best interest to send it before reason and fiduciary responsibility takes over my mind -
My credit card just got charged! Hopefully it ships today (apparently from Sony in New Jersey according to what I see on my statement) so I will have it by Friday/Saturday.
Can't wait to get my hands on it! Expect multiple pictures and performance impressions as soon as I get it setup.

Hi, ZoinksS2K,
Wow - we're exactly of the same mindset. Despite the high pressure I put on myself by making a public commitment here, I just got some very bad news yesterday that will hurt us financially (and not a little, either). As a consequence, I, too, am hanging right on the edge over this issue. Oh, boy, these are indeed quite challenging times. I hope things go well with you!
Best Regards,
Mark -
ZoinksS2K I will see what I can do. Not certain how it was shipped.

I just got a call from the cute gal from SonyStyle up here, told me the stores have got stock of the i5 model, told me she saved me one of them. was sad when I told her I want the i7... and am ordering online. I really don't want to cancel my order just to get one in store.
I want my Z!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Hi, Folks,
After doing a little more math, the results are clear. I can no longer afford to purchase the high-end configuration of the Vaio Z - I just had to cancel my order. Please accept my very sincere apologies that I'll have to let you down, and won't be able to provide the in-depth evaluation and review that I'd previously promised to you. I am truly sorry.
Best Regards,
Mark -
I just checked and if all goes well, it should arrive on Friday.

Was thinking of pre-ordering, but does anyone know if the extra capacity battery and the docking bay are the same that are used in the previous line? I currently have a Z690, and want to know if I should keep the docking bay and battery or not.....
-
According to the poster ota-con he said in the Z i5/i7 Official Owners Thread, the new style and old style battery are not compatible. He owns both Z's. As for the docking station, I read that the part numbers are different and the connection port on the underside of the new Z is different which most likely means the docking stations are not compatible either.
-
We will know next Friday
-
Anyone know if they have the new Zs in the Sony Style stores yet?
-
I was in a SonyStyle store last night and was told they expected to have the Z in the next week or two.
-
I will be posting, with a vengeance, once my machine ships. You can live vicariously through us -
Based on the info from our European brethren and the Canadian/US dates in this thread, next week is looking like go time.
The dates I've seen are 3/14 through 3/19. I'm about as excited as any adult can be. -
Still trying to get a discount. Here's a transcript of a chat session I just had

Are you serious? I just called them a few days ago and they said not until April. Dummies. I'm going to go check them out on Saturday then!
-
Called the Sony Style Galleria in Dallas...
They have one of the new models in. I stopped the rep after she said it was an i5 model, but they have a few in the back.
She said the VPCZ11FHX/XQ would be in-store after a month. -
Thanks for the info.
I guess I'll be making a trip there on Saturday.
-
Call first
I'm actually slapping myself right now for not asking is they had the SSD version. If so, I might pick one up just to stop the blathering in the main Sony thread.
EDIT: They have the Z112 with the 128GB SSD. I'm going in... -
By the way, I'll only be going over to the SonyStyle store to play around with the demo machine.Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy a new VAIO Z notebook at the moment.
Not until I've gotten a job.
-
That's a good point... there is no chance it would be a HDD model.
-
Check the edit.
I'm going to pick it up... and yes, I still have an order for the VPCZ11FHX/XQ.
This will be for testing and I'll return it. This proves I have no patience what so ever, or smarts for that matter -
Cool.
ZoinksS2k, please kindly post a review for us later.
-
FYI, my Z112GX/S came with the Windows XP Downgrade discs. Don't know if I'll use it but it was a nice surprise to have.
-
I got there and changed my mind. Spending $250 (after the return) to dink around with a machine while waiting for an upgraded version of the same machine is silly.
-
In other news...
I lied. I'm unpacking it now -
pics or it didn't happen!
-
I've never been so excited for someone i've never met to open a box before in my life!
-
Something old, something new
Sorry about the quality, Blackberry.
I'm taking a video of the first boot sequence now with my Sony DSC-T90. -
EDIT: OK, now I see you did. Proceed with the blathering-killing. Pics & raid review pls! -
Just checked in at the SonyStyle downtown Toronto at Eatons center and they've received the base-model configuration in stock and are selling.
I had a chance to play around with it and take a few pictures. I don't really know how to include the pictures here ? Maybe I'll post them in a bit..
The 1600x900 screen is SO TINY! OMG how can you guys use the 1080 resolution? I had to struggle to even see the Wifi key in the taskbar. I tried to ask them to play some video but they told me their router was downbut the screen is really bright! The unit is really sturdy and is incredibly light. This thing is made to last! Pics to come
-
I'm uploading now...
-
im getting excited lol
-
Thanks for the photos.
The silver color VAIO Z actually looks very nice IMHO.
I think if I ever have the money to buy the new VAIO Z notebook, I'll go with a silver one for a change.
...& come on, ZoinksS2k, more photos of your "delicious" new baby, please... -
Hi, Gang!
Congrats, ZoinksS2K! I know an awful lot of folks are waiting to see this little critter. For what it's worth, I just talked to the SonyStyle store in Palo Alto, and while they didn't have the unit yet, after I mentioned to the evening store manager that some of the stores were just getting them today, he looked online and said "Whoa - just what we've been waiting for, it looks like we're scheduled to receive a shipment with them tomorrow". It'll be great to finally be able to see and touch one!
FYI!
Mark -
I wonder how long some of these Sony Style stores had these brand new Z's in stock... hmmz
