you didn't read my post, seemingly there are sony batteries sold for something like 75.
http://stores.benl.ebay.be/E-Cell-Global sells them
-
Sony Shared Library Update probably has the Bios Update, though I haven't had the time to check it out yet.
In the mean time link above will do to temporarly buy sony battery's. -
I can confirm disabling "ac power adapter" in the device manager does the trick. My 3rd party battery is now charging and working normally with ISBManager running. No apparent downside.
-
BTW, Sony does not have any batteries in its stores.I'm not sure how restricting battery usage helps them.... -
I bought a generic battery too only because sony's batteries are complete garbage and die for no reason after seeing very little use (at least in my case). Anyway all seems ok for now except the orange battery indicator light keeps flashing no matter what. Has anyone else got theirs to stop?
-
Great Thanks... I resolved this problem... When Found, I found your post with the exe name...
They really sukcs, they make un usable ****ing space-bar, Exploding battery trap, and after that, they absolutely want we burn with 'em??
At Present Time everything is working fine (like using linux.... lol), I'll if different...
Thank You -
Does anyone know how many hours backup we can expect on an extended battery on a SZ483N/C?
I am planning to purchase one, and I think I'll go with the ones on eBay -
Is the battery still working fine and the battery meter is showing?
do you sill have the ISBMNGR.exe enabled?
how many hours do you get from the battery?
seems like a simple process if all you have to do is uninstally the battery and ac power and reboot laptop to install them again.
can you go throught ur step by step process again if you dont mind specailly with disableing the ISBMNGR.exe?
Thannks a lot. -

Wish I would have read this post before. We used to have this problem with replacement batteries for Vaio. The problem was reported to the manufacturer and apparantly it was solved. The next batch of batteries was probably reengineered and until now the problem did not show again. So just to point out that some aftermarket battery manufacturers found a solution to this problem.

is there an extended battery for the AW line? I looked through eBay and a couple links here and did not find one.
thanks. -
I did this and still have the same problem. My vaio vgn-sz430n doesn't work with the vgp-bpl2 battery.
any other solution?
thanks -
Let me ask for an advice here...
I have SZ6 serie notebook and I am looking for the biggest possible capacity battery. I dont care if its original, OEM or "noname".
Where can I find it and whats its capacity? -
I tried and the battery indicator keeps flickering rapidly. Btw my laptop is vaio vgn-sz483n/c. Man this sucks.
Any other recomendation? -
I have had the exact same problem. I have a VGN-SZ1XP/C. I bought the OEM battery on eBay was so excited when I got it as I was getting 4 hours out of it for about a month when suddenly it decided to go bad on me.
I have tried everything suggested in the thread but none work at all. I have got in touch with the seller and they gave me the link to this thread. Like I said I've tried everything and nothing works.
Does this mean then that I really cannot have this problem fixed??? -
Hi! I wanted to comment my experience on this OEM BATTERY compatibility problem with my vaio as i didn't find much information previous to my solving it.
My equipment: Sony Vaio vgn-sz120p running xp proffesional
All which was necessary was to disable the ISBMgr process from the msconfig seciton or directly wiping it from the registry. That makes me think, at least for this model, that it's definitely a software lock.
I would love to get my hands on latter SZs like sz750 or 770 to perform tests with this oem battery.
My suggestion to owners of these newer machines to check wether the battery system is hard or soft locked (hard locked sucks, soft locked can be solved easily) would be the following:
1) Get an oem battery with some "return if you're not satisfied" kind of policy
2) Make a copy of your recovery partition to some DVDs using vaio central (just in case)
2) Provisionally install a clean vista/xp copy on your laptop without the vaio stuff. Meaning getting your hands on a vista/xp dvd or cd and booting that cd/dvd instead of recovery cds/dvds to install it
3)That will pretty much tell you if buying oem batteries is possible for your notebook (if it's soft locked the oem bat will work, if its hard locked it wont).
Hope it helps! -
At my signature , the last link are about my adventures with laptop batteries .
The Truth about healthy battery packs , are behind their age .
The age of the cells , is the unknown info for the end-user .
The simple reply about my above concern , does not gets answered by a simple , yes or no .
I just got my second battery from eBAY , because the first one from eBAY, become a brick in seven months .
This time , i got it from a seller who offers one year warranty ,
and , in one year he will get the feedback too .
The first battery pack , that died in seven months , had inside cells , made in Canada .
Still I will not keep bad feelings for anything Canadian , as i do not do about true Chinese made Cells , that performs poor .... because the package lies about the actual capacity in amperes .
From the fear of having again a dead pack due misuse , i am trying to let the battery pack charged at 80% .
An good friend of my , got an latest SONY laptop ... (3000 EUR ) 18" screen
This one has even specialized functions , about handling the charge of the battery , by the user wish .
For example ..... it has the option to not charge the battery at all .
Or charge the battery about 80% , or even full .
Thats a very innovating practice, from the side of SONY ,
still not that amazing to make me buy one . -
Hi there!
OK, this definitely fixed the hibernation problem, but, the yellow battery light continues to flash and the battery does not appear to be charging. Any suggestions?
THANKS MUCH!
Lynne. -
It's in the hardware. You can only use genuine sony batteries on sony notebooks. Another way for them to make you pay their inflated prices on their accessories.
-
when you replace it i recommend paying the extra for sonystyle battery. online it may say they are out, but call parts at 1-800-488-7669 to make sure. i bought a replacement from a third party for a vgn-nr180 and now it wont detect the battery. sonystyle said they didnt have it when i checked online but when i phoned later (after paying 100 for third party battery) they told me they actually did have it for 160. i find if i remove and reinsert the third party battery it recognizes it again. they also sent a software disc for the third party battery that i worried about having used as it said it was reburning my prom during installation. ive only had it a few days so i dont know how long taking it out and putting it back will work. what im wondering is if it still charges when its not being detected, as i can still run the laptop just on the battery when its not detected.
-
Using since several months OEM - over 6 hours on SZ, 4-5 h with heavy CPU use. Paid 80, the same from Sony would be 400.

Hi all, I was given a Sony VGN-T140p notebook, the hard drive was dead so I took the notebook apart to replace the hard drive. The battery was good and was running with atleast 2+ hours before I took apart the notebook. After dismantling the Notebook the battery were left sitting for 3 weeks while I waited for a new hard drive. I got the new hard drive, put it in and started installing WinXP on it, installed completed and everything was good...until I unplug the AC adapter and the notebook shut off...thats when I notice the battery was NOT charging, the battery light double blink yellow ( according to the manual its suppose to be charging)....so I took out a multimeter and measured the 6 pins on the back of the notebook, there are voltage at those pins but the battery is not charging. I am wondering if its because I dont have the ISBMgr.exe running or is it the charging circuit not doing its job...could it be the battery is completely dead after sitting for 3 weeks? what else could the problem be? please anyone with some insight let me know...thank you very much.

Thanks for this! I don't have a new battery pack but this sure helped me with that annoying caution message. Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
it seems that ISBMgr.exe has been a problem for so many people who have vaio sony Laptop.
Let me make it clear that this exe. file has nothing to do with operating system (Windows XP or Vista);
it is a file created originally made by sony to disable the laptop when any "not capable Battery"
(not made by Sony corporation) is replaced with original sony battery. In other word, Sony wants you to buy
thier battery for $400 while you can buy it from ebay for $50!! now if you want to respect thier stupid
marketing and purchase the battery from them for $400, go ahead, but for those who want to get rid of the
trouble causes by this file and keep the cheap battery working, here is the solution:
Note: the ONLY reason of this file to be in your laptop is to disable laptop when you use different brand of
battery rather than sony, so dont be scare to delete this file from your computer! here is how:
file location: C/program files/Sony/ISB Utility/ISBMgr.exe (in some laptop, it appears as "ISBMgr," weithout
exe. extention), go ahead right click and try to delete this file: "ISBMgr.exe"
first of all you need to be in addministrator account to give the permission to do so. BUT, in most cases
that doesn't work either becasue the file is protected or hidden. here is how to get that sucker out of the laptop:
1) click on Start-click on Run (vista users if you cannot find the run, after you click on start, in the "start search" bar
type run and it will be listed on top then click on it)
2) Type in "cmd" press enter.
3) in the command window type in "msconfig" press enter.
4) click on the "Startup" tab on top of the window
**5) UNCHECK the "ISB Utility" from the list** and click on Apply and then OK
6) close all the windows and go back to the file location which is:
C/Program Files/Sony/ISB Utility
7) right click on the file "ISBMgr.exe" and DELETE it (with confidence) this time because you have disabled its
stability from Command window, it will be deleted.
8) just to be in the safe side and not face any wierd reaction from the laptop, you can go back to command window
and check the "ISBMgr.exe" file this will not reactivate it, but by doing so the laptop will not realize anything
missing in files! (tricky ha!).
Run--cmd--msconfig--Startup Tab--check ISBMgr.exe from the list.
share this with your friends and let the sony corporation knows that we are not gonna be its victims.
Good Luck

Hi Guys,
I am just want to let my experience with a OEM low-cost battery.
Recently I've bought a generic battery in ebay for my Vaio VGN-FZ470E model. I live in Brazil and I couldn't find one for a reasonable price here (Here one original is about USD$ 350,00) so I've decided to take risk purchasing from china in ebay.I 've received the battery 20 days later as agreed, but for may suprise, my PC shutdown immediatly after put the new battery.
After google a little I found this forum and by avoiding the ISBMgr.exe I could let my computer alive but without recharge. The battery is made by CMP and they've sent a disk for unlock the hardware lock. The problem is this software doesn't work on windows 7.
So, after some time trying a lot of things I've just installed in another HD I have the windows Vista, run the "driver" as called by the ebay's vendor (is not a driver, is a bios patch or firmware update made by CMP. Well done by CMP, by the way!) and it worked! I was able to turn on the computer and the battery indicator starts to blink slower showing that the battery was been recharged.
After that I've just put my HD with Windows 7 back and voualá!! is working!!!!
I hope been help you guys. Good luck

Hi,
Great posting. Had the same problem, battery charged ok and worked, clicking on the icon on the power meter even brought up the assurance that battery was a unique Sony Corp battery, was charging and online. I just removed this pesty isbmgr.exe and presto the window in the centre of the screen disappeared. Great work.
Thanx
Uwe -
Can you send or post a link to this hardware? I just got a new replacement battery, and this has been such a frustrating experience trying everything I have read so far on the forum to get it to work!

Haha at last we F..ed Sony -
I purchased a replacement battery via ebay for my Sony VGN-FZ140E and tried EVERYTHING from EVERY BLOG but had NO luck in getting rid of the F**ed SONY lockdown on using replacement batteries...UNTIL....MaxRzv's previous post!!!
IT WORKED!!
The replacement battery did not charge AT ALL, and there was no workaround it until I downloaded the BIOS from "Brand New Replacement Batteries".
I am now at 25% (plugged in, CHARGING)!!!
Thanks SOOO much MaxRzv - YOU ROCK!!
-
No Problem Dude, I hope this could be useful for other friends that have this problem either.
Max -
Guys, help me out here. I am trying to use that software MaxRvz suggested (which basicly flashes the bios and removes sony protection) but it is unable to run in windows 7. Thats because flashing software does not work under windows 7.
I dont have any more free space left on my drive (only 64 GB SSD installed), so I cannot install Vista or XP and run the software.
Is there a way to flash it under DOS and which software to use to do so? -
the Bios tricking software works under windows 7 please tell me your problem I try to find an answer for it
-
Quite strange!
I get the error 1275, unable to load driver because I dont have admin access. But I do, I also selected each .exe program to be run under admin and also tried to run it in compatible mode.
I googled some and people said its because it will not work under windows 7 or maybe the problem is that I am using 64 bit version? Anyhow, I tried to manually install phoenix flashing util and same error so I thought its win7 fault. -
Sorry, forgot to mention, unable to load PHLASHNT.sys driver.
-
did you get the software that written for your battery?, you should find your battery in the list and download the specified software.
did you remove ISBMgr.exe?
what kind of error you have , "Not original battery"? or not recharging? -
Yes, its the correct program.
I dont have ISBMgr.exe because I have windows 7 installed on old SZ6 model, which by default have XP, so I did not even bother installing batter util from sony.
Battery is not recharging, LEDs constantly blinks. I even tried this with laptop shut off, so I need to patch bios. -
Go to Control Panel--- User Accounts and then turn User account control off
then right click the EXE file that you have downloaded and click run as an administrator.
tell me what happened -
if it is a Vaio defiantly you have ISBMgr.exe under C:/ ---program files-- sony--
ISB Utility
this check your battery every time you turn on your laptop.
Did you remove your battery from your hardware list as I said? -
Same error. I have user account control off by default.
I have found this page:
Cannot load driver c:\windows\phlashnt.sys 1275
Saying:
You are trying to install a 32 bit program while running windows 7/ 64 ..... I purchased a new battery for my laptop and also received an update disk that gave the same errors. -
ok I think you should go beck to your old XP, or 32bit Vista or 7
-
Yes, I will.
BTW, many oem battery companies said that its better for the first charge to fully charge it from zero to 100%, is this true, or I can just normally use the battery? -
Alright.
I got it working now, from XP.
Thou there is a thing that its not clear to me. I am using BatteryMon program to check how much life I got left and how much battery is weared, etc.
The strange thing is, that its showing max capacity 8140 mAh, when it should be 10400 mAh.
So I checked that page again (where I downloaded software from) and they are selling 3 types of batteries, 5200 mAh, 8800 mAh and 10400 mAh. And for all this types of batteries, there is the same download link. I then checked the "inside" of this program and noticed there actually are 3 different bios ROMs so my guess would be each for each type of battery.
Do you think its possible program flashed by bios with the wrong version and thats why there is an error in reading of my capacity or is this just because i bought cheap oem battery from china and I got what I payed for?
PS, I tried manually flashing with all 3 ROMs, but only 1 managed to flash, others returned some error and I canceled. -
this is a Chinese scam my friend there is no 10400ma/h battery available for Sony, they tell you this as an advertisement.your battery is an 8200 ma/h
