I have bought the 10400 ma/h battery for my FZ290 from this website either, it shows 8600 ma/h they use Chinese cells, I think it is the source of the lower capacity

    dear b|lly,

I'm the webmaster of brand-new-battery.com, you can get it working under win XP or win vista model, the win 7 64 bit version may meet the problem, win 7 32 bit version can use it by these steps:

1,Ways to how to install the CD driver in windows 7 version

A, Click“start” ,click “My COMPUTER” on the mouse right buttom,

B ,Click “MANAGE”,double click “Local users groups”,

    C ,Double click “Users”,

D, Double click “Adminstrator”, then cancel “Acount is disabled”,that means cancel “ ” in front of “Acount is disabled”.

E,After confirming it ,please restart the laptop then choose administrator user system. You can install the CD driver as instructed in CD .Last you can use our OEM battery successfully

2,Please quit the anti-virus software and firewall software before installing the CD driver program ,or may cause installing failure.

3 , If you install the CD driver as instructed ,the laptop wonot boot itself after closing automaticlly ,it may not be compatiable your laptop .This ratio is very small .We feel pity that our battery can not be 100% compatiable with all modes at present because of so many laptop models. Please go to the professional refreshing motherboard BIOS company to repair. If you can not find the suitable repairing company, please contact your supplier ,we will try our best to restore it.Usually,it can be finished within one day as long as your file in hard driver is same state . Besides, please tell your repairing engineer that copy the laptop original BIOS in C:\WINDOWS\BiosRead.ROM if needed .We suggest you had better not go to SONY service center to repair

4, The CD driver program wonot destroy any laptop hardware device, but there will be the danger that may not succeed in installing ,please choose carefully before installing!!

it's not necessary to charge and discharge when you get the battery, li-ion battery has a little memory effect, Ni-H, Ni-G battery need to do fully charger and discharge.

original sony vgp-bps8 battery has no 10400mAh capacity, but replacement can do it. original only one capacity 4800mah, VGP-BPS8 | VAIO® Standard Capacity Battery | Sony | SonyStyle USA

10400mAh needs to use SANYO cells or sony cells, so the price more expensive, as I know, our supply can do 10400mah battery.

diggtwitter, thank you so much for your cooperation. It seems to me that I was scammed. I contacted ebay seller and he said that factory made error and they offer me a refund of 5 USD for me to keep current battery, this is a joke.

So I was thinking..maybe I can get a good refund from them, keep the current battery and order real 10400 from you. I can get a full refund back if i send back to seller, but that would cost me around 30$, together with income tax I payed, thats almost 3/4 of the battery price.

What do you think, since you do come directly from this business, how big refund should i ask for?

In email I sent to you, you did not replay if its possible for me to send my own courier to pick it up, because if you ship with fedex I will have to pay income tax again, which si 20% of price.

Usually we partially refund 10%-20% of goods value if has the capacity error.

We replied to your e-mail before, didn't you receive it? Our store also located in China, but you needn't to pay income tax, the fedex can delivered to you directly.

This is the ISBMgr.exe Description from http://searchtasks.answersthatwork.com/tasklist.php?File=ISBMgr:

"If your Sony battery dies and you buy a non-Sony battery (ie. you buy a compatible battery - compatible batteries are infinitely cheaper than Sony batteries) this service will check whether the new battery is a Sony or non-Sony battery. If it detects that it is not a Sony battery, it issues an error message saying that "Your computer is going to sleep because the battery may be incompatible", and then it puts your computer into sleep mode. To restart the laptop you then usually have to take the battery out and work the laptop off the AC adapter. If you disable this task on the STARTUPS tab, you are then able use the laptop with the battery but you will find that the battery does NOT charge (you are simply working off the charge it had when it was sold to you) and that the battery indicator in the System Tray is unreliable.

So, what do you do if you absolute want to use a cheaper non-Sony battery ? One solution that seems to work on a number of Sony laptops is to do as follows :

    1) Start the laptop without your new compatible battery. Work off your AC adapter directly from the mains

    2) Disable this task on the STARTUPS tab of TUT.

    3) Download and install a program called "Notebook Hardware Control" from this website Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) - Homepage, Downloads, Help, Docu, FAQ, News - www.NotebookHardwareControl.net (at the time of writing, 13-Sep-2008, this website was deemed a safe site and free of any malware by McAfee's SiteAdvisor.com).

    4) Install the program and configure it.

    5) Plug in your new compatible non-Sony battery.

    6) Configure "Notebook Hardware Control" to ensure that it is able to recognize your new battery, its charging level, and is able to charge it. If it is, then you're winning !

    7) Test that your battery does charge by charging it and then trying to work solely off the battery with the AC adaptor unplugged.

Note 2 : The above solution notwithstanding, some Sony laptops will simply not work with a compatible battery because Sony has hard wired into the laptop's motherboard the detection of a non-Sony battery (as opposed to leaving it to ISBMGR). When that is the case the laptop will not even turn ON. We currently do not have a workaround for this type of situation.

This program normally uses 1Mb to 20Mb of memory."

I recently bought a 9-cell non-OEM battery from fleabay for my Sony SR Vaio (w/ Win 7). I couldn't install the DVD that came with the battery and after reading all 12 pgs of this thread, I decided to return it as it seemed like a lost cause. I emailed the seller (in China) to send me a return address. He sent me a file called " BPS13.rar " which I neede WinRAR to download (it had a 40-day free trial). As instructed, I shut down, took out original battery, used A/C plug ONLY, downloaded the program, shut down, and put in NEW (non-OEM) battery and Voila, it seems to work flawlessly. It is charging now but it recognized it w/o the A/C plug and showed a charge of 69%. I can email anyone the file - just PM me...I offer can't offer any guarantees that it will work but it seems to have worked with my Windows 7 x64 . Also, I noticed that SONY has released a newer version of the BPL13 extended battery - it's now BPL21 available on Sony.com for $199. It is 7500mAH.

*Nevermind-Orange Battery light does seem to constantly flicker though and says "Plugged in, NOT charging"...I was prematurely excited as when I had plugged it in before, I couldn't even use my mouse function. Looks like I will be returning it after all...I don't want to mess with my laptop anymore...SIGH

    Hi,

can you please help. I am very happy I found this thread.

I have a Sony laptop with an aftermarket battery. I deleted the .exe file so the laptop now accepts the new battery, I just need the software to correct the BIOS. I can not find the software. I went to

SONY VGP-BPS2 Battery, High Quality Replacement Batteries for Sony VGP-BPS2

and I can not see any download link to get the software. Any ideas? Thank you.

I have ran into another kind of problem with cheaper batteries (or even batteries from OEM). Basically, we cannot know for sure when a battery was made in some cases and where (conditions) it was stored. This results in getting a new battery with significant wear level. I have already bought a few batteries in the past from various places just to find out that wear levels were about 15-30%. This is why I am buying separate battery cells, disassemble my old battery, and solder new elements in. Typically all laptop batteries made out of "18650 Li-Ion" type of cells. I usually get cells with higher capacity than what was in my original battery, i.e. 2600mAh vs 2200mAh, and get ensured zero wear level and great battery capacity. It is also cheaper. Just make sure you buy cells from well rated seller and call them to inquire on how fresh are the cells.

    Dear spody,

Our VGP-BPS2 batteries don't need driver to run, so we can't provide the driver software to uodate the BIOS, so you'd better ask your seller provide it.

2600mAh cells usually made by famous cells producter like SanYo, LG, Sony, their cells more expensive than the 2200mAh cells producter, if you have ability to disassemble battery, it's a another better choice.

vgp-bps13 replacement battery as I know is still unstable, showed a charge of 69% or can't update BIOS because of unbalance cells, bps8, bps9, bps10, bps11 we have already solved it, except when you using 64-bit win 7 may be still a little problem, other operating system is do well with it.

Original batteries is too expensive for customers, one original battery almost can buy a new laptop, this likes ink box. But it's intellectual property

    Dear hehemeocon,

As I know, vgp-bps2c don't need any drivers to run, your battery with the LED flashing rapidly and can not charge may be mean that the battery was a defective one. You'd better ask the seller for more details.

I also bought one of the Japanese replacement BPL21 nine cell batteries on eBay ($69.99) from a seller in Hong Kong. It arrived surprisingly fast and I have had it running perfectly for several days now.

I researched and found this posting from Joe (Thanks Joe!). VAIO F Series Battery Replacement - Third Party (Do a Google search and it will come up).

As others have said, you must remove the ISBManager.exe. The easy way to find and remove ISBManager.exe is with this Microsoft Autoruns utility (just Goggle Microsoft Autoruns and download it).
Depending on your Vaio model, you may have an additional battery enforcement program (WBCBatteryCare.exe) running as well as a BIOS enforcer.

I downloaded the latest battery BIOS patch (SonyBiosPatch_20101221.exe) from here: batteries for laptop computer, comcarder, digital camera, power tool battery
My Vaio series was not listed, but this patch worked perfectly. This is on a new Sony Vaio running Win 7 64 bit.

My thanks to all those that worked out all these details for the rest of us!

2.2 If you succeed in installing with the ways mentioned above ,but the battery light is flicking ,please turn off your laptop and insert your battery again, boot your laptop ,then it can work fine.

    2.3

2.3.1 If you only have new oem battery above 2% capacity ,without any original battery , please only connect the adaptor with your laptop without any battey, run the program directly ,then will come up with a error message which shows no battery. If so ,please close your software installationm, insert your oem battery ,run the software again as 2.1 picture shows. Finally, you can succeed.

2.3.2 Please charge the orginal battery capatity till 2% first if less ,then run the software.

I'm bumping this thread because new and old issues have come back.

I went through a lot of these issues when getting started, but was able to get the non-Sony battery working. I think I referred to this thread back then and it helped - thanks everyone.

    Here's the new problem:
If the battery gets below say 20%, it starts showing that it's at 100% and charging - but it's not charging. It's almost as if the battery goes dead at a certain point and stops charging. Yet the laptop properties still say 100% and charging (with the blinking orange battery light).

Is there a trick to push the battery back into a charging state? I was careful not to allow the charge to get below 20-30% and would immediately plug the cord in if I saw the 100% display, but accidentally let it go completely dead last weekend.

    Thanks for any help.

Try the above of the method,

2.3.1 If you only have new oem battery above 2% capacity ,without any original battery , please only connect the adaptor with your laptop without any battey, run the program directly ,then will come up with a error message which shows no battery. May be this can help you slove the problem.

    Thank you for the reply.

I think I tried everything on this thread several times. Finally I gave up and bought another battery. When I booted it up again the old battery started charging. Maybe letting it sit for days without messing with it cleared it out.

May be the new battery re-flash the laptop driver, the newest driver made the old battery started to work. The supplier provided the newest driver the better.

Hi - I was getting ready to run this software, but the File option is not allowed, which might indicate that this BIOS update won't work?

Is it OK to run the update under Patch Mode? I have a VGN-NR330E.

    Thanks.

Did the battery bought from us? We can't promise the driver can run on other OEM battery.

    hi all,
I'm newbie from italy and sorry for my english.
I bought this battery for my VAIO VGN-FW41ZJ from china, and on the website there's indicate that this battery works with this laptop, but when I received it, on the package there's a label: "Suitable for win 7-32bit only".

So the question is: can I use this battery for my win7 64bit laptop ?

I wrote them and they said that it doesn't works, but into the CD (for bios update) into the "help.chm" file there's this note:
"....for bps12 till follow-up models battery drivers, such as bps13 bps14. they all can be installed in all vista/windows7 32 bits and 64 bits operating system laptops." (the same 1.1 note of pag.13 of this thread).

So it seems that this battery works with win7 64 bits...
What do you think? Please can you help me before return the battery?

I'm inclined to suggest that you return the battery and buy one from one of the domestic suppliers of "real" sony replacement batteries that don't require any BIOS changes. Sorry it's probably not the answer you want, but you may be really sorry if you try to run the one you have.

hey all, this the by far the most helpful and detailed thread/discussion I have read so far.

I have recently purchased a battery for my sony VGN-SR1, I believe the laptop has hardware/bios battery check and a BIOS update is required. I was stupidly enough not to read the instructions that came with the battery and has used all power on the battery.

My problem now is, I have lost my original battery, new battery is not charging, hence, bios update utility came with the battery would not continue. I was wondering is there a way to trick win7 so update process can proceed. or, my laptop uses bios from AMI, there are tools on the internet that can flash bios directly, I guess I can manually update bios.

Can anyone kindly tell me what are my options or ways to fix this problem WITHOUT sending new battery to the seller, this would be my last option.
I don't know someone who has the same laptop as me, so borrowing an original battery is also not an option for me :S.
    Thanks in advance.

I have an FS8900 with a clean install (no recovery partition) of Win 7 32-bit with no Sony-specific apps installed other than audio/video/network/touchpad/ms slot drivers.

The included OEM battery is from 2006, and lasts 15 seconds when the AC adapter is disconnected. When AC is restored, the battery icon flashes and Windows states "0% Not charging". From the age alone, I expect the battery is done, but would one of the apps allow it to charge?

Assuming not, would a 3rd party 12 cell VGN-BPL2 10400mah or 8800mah extended battery work without any hacks on an FS8900? If not, please let me know what is entailed to get one working. Also, of actual OEM models, which is the most powerful (highest mah) compatible battery that will work in a FS8900? A BPL2? I can't afford to waste money on a battery that's doomed to fail.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I want to replace the original Sony battery on my VAIO VGN-CS21S/R with a compatible battery. Would I need the BIOS modification? Or has anyone with a CS21S managed to use a 3rd party generic battery with no problems?

    Cheers,

    Alistair G.

hi everyone. i have a vaio vgn-sr190 running 64-bit win7 and the original battery is dying very quickly. i can get 100% charge but it will last about 30 minutes. so i bought a replacement battery compatible with VGP-BPS13AB that came with the BIOS update which is exactly the same as @diggtwitter has posted all over this thread.

after flashing the BIOS with the software trying both the "file" and "patch" methods, my computer still does not recognize the battery. the tray icon indicates "battery not found" or something similar and the orange battery charging LED flashes incessantly. lastly, the ISBMgr.exe is not running on my machine as i've disabled or uninstalled most of the sony services.

    any help is appreciated.

The battery you purchased didn't compatible with win 7 64-bit OS, the driver can't be installed on your laptop. Now there is no solution for this, the only way is purchase a no-CD battery for your laptop, no-CD battery use original chip so it won't unrecognize by notebook.

    Hello everyone,

I also just bought a replacement battery, compatible with a VGP-BPS22 for my windows 7 64bit system. It also came with the BIOS patch. Unfortunately whenever i try to run it, it encounters an error simply named "system time error". ISBMgr.exe is disabled... Has anyone encountered this problem?

My pc is a Vaio VPCEB3S1E/BQ

    Any help is welcome
