All the new SZ6 models are up on the Sony business site along with high quality pictures and prices! :)

    http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/subcategory/notebooks/sz-series

It looks like they updated the design a bit, including a new keyboard design similar to the TZ. :D

*UPDATE: It appears I was wrong about the keyboard. It is the same as the SZ4 series. But the whole chasis is now matching black.

The SZ650 is lighter than the others...maybe the WWAN antenna weights 0.05lbs. :D

By the way, it's the only one that doesn't have the specsheet available to download.

sadly the SZ6 only has 64mb dedicated on the geforce 8400m gs just like the dv2500t.

(64mb dedicated, up to 767mb shared with 2gb of system memory)

Just looking at all the models and trying to figure out the differences, does this seem correct:
    650: base
    660: adds WWAN
    670: 660 + bumps processor from 2.2 to 2.4
690: 670 + bigger but slower hd and slightly different case

    Does this seem correct?

Where are you seeing a new Keyboard design? Either I'm blind or it's not that big of a change. Is there a specific picture you are looking at?

Yes! It's just like the TZ and CR series...very nice! If you download any specs and zoom a little you be able to see it.

    iwkua, you're right!

well, that 680 BTO seems to say you can get a 200GB 7200 drive, but the premium says 4200?
And there better be more than the harddrive and carbon fiber lid to make the premium 691 worth the extra cash.

And finally..... any guesses when am I gonna be able to order one? :)

Click on the picture of the SZ690 and you will get a high quality picture that clearly shows the new keyboard style.

I think I agree with you Johnnyboy... to me, if you zoom in close on the Hi-Def images, it looks pretty much the same... All the keys are up against each other. Unlike the TZ series where it looks like they are individually embedded into the chassis.

Did you take a look at the SZ690 hi-res picture? It very clearly showed the same type of keyboard as the new Sony TZ (which is also now up on the Sony business site).

Hmmmm...ideed. I think you're right guys. I was looking at the spec's pics (which aren't so good). I'll try to find a better one and decide :).

I just don't know why the SZ650 doesn't have the specsheet... I'd like to confirm its weight.

Yes, I did as well, and from what I could see, it looks the same as the prior SZ models, but in all black. Still agree with you Johnnyboy. Not sure what others are seeing... might be a trick of the light.

Yeah, but it's the only one without the specsheet to download.

kickace said something about the video ram (the memory) available. Isn't it the same gpu used in the XPS1330?

Crap! I think you are right. After bringing up a similar picture of the SZ480 and comparing them, they do look similar. I jumped the gun, hoping they had changed it. The keyboard on the SZ4 series was the only deal breaker for me. :(

It's one of the worst laptop keyboards I've tried. Lots of flex and mushy response. The display models at my local Best Buy have broken keys all over.

rbg08, looking very carefully at the SZ691 hi-res pic, I have to agree with you. The keys seem to be individually embedded into the chassis.

But I know this discussion will end only when somebody gets to see it "in person".

I think I was wrong. If you compare the SZ690 hi-res pic with the picture on SonyStyle.com of the SZ480 (which angles the unit similarly), both keyboards look the same. :(

Okay, it is now confirmed that the SZ6 has the old SZ4-style keyboard. The hi-res picture of the SZ650 is now available that more clearly shows the keyboard to be the same as the SZ4.

    such a shame...

the SZ has 64mb dedicated and 767 shared (with 2gb system memory): 831mb total

thats why it sais 831mb total available memory on the specs page

One Question guys. When do you think we will get some reviews? Im thinking of ordering one the moment it becomes available but then again what if the reviews later prove my decision wrong. On the other hand If I wait to make sure this lap rocks I might be waiting a long time for delivery.

Anyone has experience buying a laptop the second it comes out?

BTW they should put this along with the sz6 santa rosa is here! into one thread this way its easier to see whats going on with the SZ6

Since Sony sells all but the Custom Build SZs at retail stores, they should be available for reviewers at day of launch (the day you can buy them at the store). So just wake up early on the launch date and read all the reviews before going to the store to purchase it. :)

Mailed Dynamism about the SZ6, so far they have no clue about when they can offer the new model.

Today morning I talked to Sony e-support and they confirmed the date July 29th.

I also asked them why in the SZ650 pics (even those in specsheet) we can see the WWAN antenna. He said he couldn't answer me at the moment, since they'll only know about it in details by that date.

They will get the notebooks on a sunday to all the sony shops, or this means online?

Sorry for bothering so much :chatterbox: , but I'm trying to avoid the xps 1330 situation where you are left waiting for a month to get the computer. I want to get one of the first ones

Probably "online". But it was said elsewhere that by this date the SZ650 would be available at Compusa. Right now, I know that bhphoto is "accepting orders".

    It shouldn't take long...

If you zoom in on the hi-res image, the model number is listed in the lower left corner of the lid as something like"XXXXX". I'm betting this isn't a picture of a production model, but rather a generic model that shows the general design of all the SZ6 models. The same unit is probably used in all the pictures of the new models.

Yes, I saw it. But I've downloaded the SZ650 specsheet (where it should present correct pictures) and it also shows the antenna!!

I'm pretty sure they mixed all up! It doesn't make any sense.

@aacury: I think they used that same pre-production model's pictures in all the SZ6 spec sheets & product pages.

@ashtanga-warrior: the only change in design was to make the whole unit black & slightly thicker/heavier.

Kinda of topic but is there ever going to be a SZ with blu-ray option (of course I would also like to have HDCP enabled HDMI to go along with it)?
