    Hi Everyone :)

Just got my shiny new VAIO FE31H (not sure as its the same worldwide but it's the new gunmetal-grey model with the Core2Duo chip ;))

Anyway, I have always in the past with new machines formatted straight away and built the software line-up how i want it, but with this vaio it seemed to become a massive headache to get all the drivers and specific utilities back on... so i did a recovery which is three stages:

    • System Recovery
    • Windows Setup
    • Application Recovery

however i stopped after windows setup (which by the way still installs a load of unwanted "bloatware" - it just happens that the Application Recovery section installs a load more!)

It then prompts me every startup that i must insert the Application Recovery disk to continue the software installation otherwise my system will become unstable lol, so i just deleted the VAIO Recovery software from program files and problem sorted (I'm sure there was a proper way to stop this with the registry but i ain't all that good at messing around in there...)

So, now to my question (thanks for your patience):

Is there anything specific i need to keep before i masacre all the bloatware? I just want it to be a fresh windows but with all the drivers and utilities to operate my notebook effectively.

    Thanks :)

EDIT: before someone has a go at me for not searching the forum before posting, i have but the main source of info seems to be only relevant to the SZ... and the recovery process on them beauties works differently (and better IMO, still not ideal, but better...)

In case anyone has come across this thread while using the search function, i'll answer myself for other peoples information :)

uninstall anything you dont need, dont touch the VAIO stuff (except maybe the participation app and the welcome to vaio app), and DEFINATELY don't delete the Sonic CD & DVD burning option in the Windows Components section it'll screw your DVD drive... uninstall all the crap then run defrag and a nice registry cleaner and you'll be just fine :) nice a clean ;)
