I read about the delay on the front page and it hurts since I'm waiting for the new TZ series to come out. Terrible. I suppose we're looking at October rather than September? Weak.
-
-
I may have read that wrong but I thought it was a driver issue with the integrated graphics chipset. Assuming the hardware doesn't actually have to be modified the delay probably won't be long. I'm still expecting to see pre-orders available mid-June.
-
There's no word if Montevina SFF/ULV processors have been delayed, just the regular processors that were to come out in June.
I hope those will not be delayed as well. -
still nothing?
-
Sony Style has extended discount for TZ and AR to June 19. Does it mean that the new model won't be out until July at the earliest?
-
-
Still no news on the new models? want to know about 14.1's and sz's
-
I haven't heard anything. There's a ton of sub notebooks announced by companies like Asus, Acer (even Dell) that would definitely give the T series some new competition. Dell has some "Studio Line" notebook that they will announce soon (if they haven't already). It reminds of the of the old Z series design. Voodoo leaked some teaser pics but nothing yet from Sony. Maybe we'll here something tomorrow as it's the last day of Computex.
-
I really was hoping to see Sony announce some new models at Computex, we still have one or two days left so I can still hold out hope? Even if Centrino 2 has been delayed, still announce them at least no?
The only notebooks I see giving the T series direct competition are the Lenovo Ideapad U110 and Asus U2E.
The ones from MSI, Asus, Dell, etc. are in a different class altogether, using Atom instead of Core 2 Duo processors, having less storage, having smaller screens and cases and especially being MUCH MUCH cheaper. Totally different classes.
But after looking at the Asus EEE for example, I even find my TZ a little big now. : D
So I really want Sony to make a premium 7 to 9" notebook like the HP Mininote which I like with its Expresscard slot, 2.5" HDD, 1280x768 screen (unlike in the Asus EEE and MSI Wind for example that use 1024x600). But I hate that it uses the awful Via C-7 processor. I'd love if Sony could hopefully use Montevina ULV processors, not even Atom.
Bring back the C1 Picturebook series please for its 10th anniversary! -
I'm really looking forward to any news/rumors about a new SZ model. Please post if you have some.
The current design is nice but a bit outdated. -
I think I will order the MSI Wind with XP and the 6-cell battery while I'm waiting for a Montevina TZ in September/October. In the reviews the MSI appears as the best sub-notebook with great performance (in his class) and excellent battery life (around 6 hours). What else do you want for 600$?
IMO Sony should refresh the SZ and TZ and leave this low-cost market to others...Is not for Sony to produce a cheap laptop. -

Well I can you guys this, I just phone a few Sony Stores here in Canada, and they all told me the samething, SZ780 is soon to be discontinued, and will be getting new laptops by Augest. My guess is that'll come July as stated by official Intel Press, sorry just google it. Cheers! -
july is promising ... i hope they will have some surprises for us!
-
As I understand the Montevina "question" from posts in another threads, the minor size of the chip set will enable SONY to make rearrangements in the chassis or perhaps make a new formed chassis, a somewhat smaller one or at least different in style?
I must also say that really like the look of the TZ as we know it: It is stylish and beautiful. Hope SONY will keep a possible new chassis in the same kind of style. And that they also take into consideration the importance of a good keyboard, especially with a big enough right shift key, and located in a way that places it separate in physical distance from the arrow keys, to reduce the risk of misprints.
(It should be noted that the keyboard of the present TZ is ergonomically very well done it these matters, and this is of great importance to writers.)
I am very excited to see what the SONY designers will present to us during late summer or fall. Or even before that? -
Quite dissapointed with Sony. At Computex they didn't announce anything new...Not even a sub-notebook that quite every important manufacture release. I was expecting some new models to be released for pre-order and shipping when Montevina will be released in August. In my opinion Sony is loosing a lot of customers delaying so much new models.

I'm also waiting on the new TZs. Was going to buy one this month until I read about the new series. Hopefully the UK will get the new lineup at the same time as the US although I imagine there could be a delay?

1. What is the earliest the new FW-models could show up?
2. What is the earliest the new FW-models could be in shops on continental Europe? -

Hey guys, Just thought id mention, when I went to the mall today, at The Sony Store, I asked some random guy and he told me that Sony is not discontinuing the SZ series, BUT they are getting new SZ series. Following to say a new desgn and and all. He's telling me like I said around July. Note I do reside in Ontario Canada, so may vary from country to country. Cheers!

Yup, we've got something completely new coming. The Intel thing has pushed back their announcement date, because of the embargo on when models using the new Montevina chipset can be announced, so look for them when the time comes.
I'm sure more details about the series will leak out in the mean time. So much already has. -

Watch out for the Berlin Press Conference on 15 July 2008 (rescheduled from 25 June) to celebrate the 10th Anniversary Birthday of VAIO and to announce new models.
-
-
-
The US is having one as well I believe on the 14th or 15th in New York. More of a formal announcement of the new models.
-
A lot of models in the SZ lineup are now gone from SS, including the SZ791N/X. Something new is coming

Yes, the 10th anniversary was last year when the first notebook, 505, came out in Japan in 1997.
Maybe 1998 was when Vaio was introduced outside Japan so their celebrating its 10th anniversary in Europe at least?
I also noticed the UX series is gone from the U.S Sonystyle site. -
InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
... but no change to the TZ series?
I'm torn between waiting for something new (TZ with Centrino2 maybe?) and getting a laptop for my birthday in July. I'm going on a trip in September and I really want something by then.
Decisions, decisions... argh! -
-
You may want one of the new models Sony's announcing in mid-July instead of the TZ. I know I do, and the TZ doesn't look to be refreshed for a bit yet, so if you like it, look for a good deal now, or wait till you see the new models that will hit the streets in not to long.
-
The TZ series should be updated/replaced in the Fall at the earliest when Montevina SFF is released. The AR and CR series are definitely going to be replaced as well. I hope that when Sony releases a new line of 17 inch notebooks, they will have 9800 GTX as an option.

Sony: 'you want to game? Get a PSP or PS3'
-
I agree. It's too bad Sony won't offer higher-end graphics cards on their 17 inch notebooks. The are getting to far behind in the competition. I hope they include an opton for the 8800GTX in their future. Such a powerful GPU paired with Sony's amazing screens would be simply awesome!
Nice sense of humor.
I recently found out that Toshiba's new Qosmio 18.4 inch notebooks will be the first notebooks "to boast a dedicated Quad Core HD Processor (powered by the same Cell Processor that runs the PlayStation3)" with a price of $1549.
I just don't understand why Sony won't implement their own technologies into their notebooks. They should have included a dedicated Quad Core HD processor a long time ago, considering that it is the same processor that runs the Playstation 3. Let's hope they do on their upcoming notebooks. -
-
Looking to get one for school (really liking the Dell XPS M1330 13 inch as well as the Vaio SZ series as well) and I want a decent graphics card (8400m GS or better) but I'd be willing wait till early September when college starts back up again to order a notebook.

Centrino 2 is both cooler and faster than penryn; (also, there's the x9000, a 2.8ghz penryn), also allowing for ddr3 memory -

Do you guys think that someone should make a Sticky for any news/information on Sony's upcoming notebooks? A lot of people seem interested...

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Intel got the QX9300 down to only 35w TDP.

That's great news. It will be more power efficient. It will also be no doubt expensive (when customizing a notebook, it will cost about $1050!).
-
I am sure that the SZ will be replaced by a new model with the Montevina platform. Every manufacture is releasing laptops with the new upcoming Centrino 2. -
When is the earliest you guys expect the new VAIO FW-models to be released? I really need a new notebook by half August, although I prefer having it somewhat earlier (e.g. by the end of July). Currently I am doubting whether to go with an FZ-model or to keep waiting for the FWs...
I am living in the Netherlands, any chance I can get an FW here before my 'deadline'?
