A mere two and a bit months to go! Hope Sony manages to sort out all the Windows 7 drivers before then.

They will be sent out on the day Windows 7 is released. So you may have to wait a couple of days to receive the actual discs.

All it takes is a copy of a sales receipt and I am sending mine in.

Is that what is happening on yours?

They may charge you a handling and delivery fee. The amount depends on where you live.

Go to Sony.com and check for application instructions.

I am now running Window 7 RTM on my SR. *

    * I am running it inside VMWare.

I am suprised it use so little memory and half the process too.

Oh, my Windows Experience Index is a 1. Do I need to get out of the closet first?

From what I've read, you'll get two discs, one with the Windows 7 OS and one with the drivers/apps.

I assume that means I'll get Windows 7-compatible versions of Office 2007 & Norton Internet Security 2009.

I bought my Vaio FW4 on the 30th of july and it showed up on the 11th of august. I registered for my win7 upgrade and attached the electronic receipt I was emailed when I bought the laptop as a proof of purchase. Havn't heard back from them yet...

Considering that the address is sonyauto and they tell you to state the order number in the email I figure they have a program that parses the emails so I would like to know if anyone has been sucessful registering electronically?

Right now you cannot order anything... do you actually read what's on the upgrade site?
You can register for the upgrade and will be noticed once it is available. You will get a confirmation email when registered.

Those of you thinking of updating to W7, you better think again.

I got a HP laserjet and a scanjet and both of them doesnt work in W7!

Yes before I install I did say to put in Vista mode and admin access. It install fine. Thats the easy part.

On the laserjet I got it to network, but it just hangs in the queue. I found a fix but it didnt work for me.

Scanjet software just crash whenever I start it.

I got it to work because I use VMware with XP Pro and connect my two USB device there and it work. Thats my work around.

lol I wish it could be that easy. I'm starting university in September so he got me this as a gift. I'm thinking about just replying to that email saying it was a gift along with pictures of the box/UPC/package/laptop and everything. Unless there's another way around it...

I got rid of Vista and installed Windows 7 RC.

So if this is an "upgrade" disk, I'm kinda screwed.

No Vista to be upgraded to Windows 7. Unless its the real retail cd. I may have to pull a Samuel L Jackson and "haggle" my side saying I got rid of vista for XP :)

I got my laptop from Newegg. I processed my laptop information at sony.com/windows7 and faxed that along with my order conformation from Newegg. Do I get some kind of conformation email or something letting me know that everything I did was valid and I'm getting that windows 7?

I ordered mine from SonyStyle.com. I submitted the request for upgrade on line. They sent an order confirmation complete with an order number showing $00 due and stated that I should send sales proof such as a sales reciept or packing slip. Copies or scanned images are acceptable. I submitted mine via email and sent them a scanned pdf file of my packing slip. You can also send it by fax or snal mail. I got an automated confirmation that they had recieved my email reciept. Now I just wait.

I submitted my upgrade info the day after I received the laptop (bought a FW465J from Amazon) though in the initial info part I put the purchase date one day before the date listed on the Amazon order info which I sent in as proof. I haven't received any confirmation yet and it's been over a month but it seems like everyone else isn't receiving anything either.

Hi. I have been given a genuine copy of Windows 7 Pro (the full, not the RC, and not an upgrade disc) as part of a MSDN project they have here at my university. That means that I can do a clean install (finally, no more bloatware~). In case you are wondering, it is like when they first released Vista - Vista Enterprise was given to all the businesses before being released to the main-stream public. This is just the same case with Windows 7 (though they are releasing Pro first instead of the enterprise version before the public release date)

Anyway, I have installed Windows 7 RC in the past on my Z (2nd gen), and the experience wasn't pleasant (installed the very last driver after all the reboots (2x dozen times at least), and after the last reboot, all the drivers just disappeared...).

I know that the Vaio owners who are eligible for the upgrade program will be getting the driver disc (for the hardware), along with the Windows 7 upgrade disc. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if Sony will be releasing the driver discs for the models that are not eligible for the upgrade? I won't mind paying for it (but nothing over US$25, otherwise that is a complete rip-off)

My Z was released mid-year last year, and I bought it last year at Christmas.

Would like to wait installing until I can get the official drivers, especially the darn brightness buttons~~

I have already asked in here in the Z forums, but just asking again elsewhere to make sure.

Did anyone who sent their confirmation checked their status? I done it for 2 months now but the status on the order still says pending for confirmation on the order status checker. However back then, I emailed my receipt and I got an instant confirmation. weird.

Anybody here from Australia who's eligible for the W7 upgrade?

Is there any news on when we'll be able to place our orders via the Sony AU website? I've been monitoring the page below since the start of July. First it stated that ordering would commence 'middle of August', then in August the date was pushed back to 'middle of September'. And the 'please wait for further information' spiel has been up since July, though this further information never comes. It's now September 22nd, and no word on when us Aussies will be able to order the upgrade kit.

If anyone has any info (or if I've stupidly overlooked something), please let me know. :)

    http://www.sony.com.au/section/win7rel

EDIT: Now the above page states that ordering will commence 'middle of October'. This is ridiculous... :(

    Indeed..

I really don't understand why the ordering process hasn't been allow to begin yet. At this rate, it's not likely that Australian Vaio owners will see the upgrade kit arrive before early November (if not later).. :(

    EDIT:
Ordering is now set to commence at the "Beginning of October", according to the Sony AU website.
    :)

Sorry the SZ won't be getting a free upgrade to Windows 7 if that is what you are asking.

Also, Sony won't release drivers for the SZ to enable it to run Windows 7. They are only looking at the newer models to support the upgrade.

So, your saying that SZ650 will NOT have any drivers that support windows 7? or will it just take a while for them to release the drivers? I ask this because the link provided on the first page shows the message about drivers being released when Win7 comes out.. it didnt say that it is not available ever.

Also, If my warranty is still in effect, will i be able to get windows 7 as well??

    When did you ordered it?

    I think
    1. Sony made deal with this company
    2. It's located in Singapore or its Singapore's branch
    3. It'll be probably packed & send from Singapore.
