High chance this is just the outsourced company which is doing the upgrades. I remember the upgrade I got from Asus for Vista Business a few yrs back was sent from Singapore too. (I'm in Australia)
-
Well, I became proud owner of brand new Vaio Z11WN/B 3 days ago.
But it seems there are no upgrades for 1st Z series, only from second onward. Real shame if you ask me, there are not much of a difference between 1st and 2nd model.
-
Has anyone else received their Proof of purchase validated email?
-
I got mine on the 25th....funny thing is that I don't need it anymore because I got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 edition through technet. If anyone wants my Sony upgrade copy (W7 Home premium x64) when it comes in then I'm willing to part with it. I have a VGN-FW490 CTO model but I'm sure it'll work on other models since it just checks for validation of a certified vista install. And if there are any driver issues then you can probably get them off the Sony Support site...
-
Could I have it then? Thanks
-
Yay! My sis received confirmation email. Also Order status has changed to "Pending for Fulfillment"

I'm in australia. Finally the website for ordering the upgrade has come online.
Bad news for me is they are charging $15USD for the upgrade and then $25USD for postage...Since i'm a student i can get an upgrade straight from microsoft for cheaper than this...
And i thought Sony had to offer it for free (possible shipping charge)... VERY UNHAPPY SONY. Now I have a Vaio Z with the battery drain issue and a stupid windows 7 upgrade offer thats going to cost $40USD to get... -
I feel your pain.. I placed my order for my upgrade kit earlier this evening, begrudgingly. AU$45 is rather steep (two thirds of that total coming from overinflated shipping costs for a couple of discs). Especially considering I don't know of another manufacturer that is charging anywhere near that amount for the upgrade kit, inclusive of shipping. We pay an absolute, jaw-dropping premium for Vaios here in Oz as it is.. Is that not enough?
EXTREMELY UNIMPRESSED, SONY.
End rant.

There is a reason for that, lol. The price of living and our minimum salary is ALOT higher than USA and other Countries, except for England.
A quick comparison, Aus's lowest average salary is around $14/hr, where as USA's lowest average salary is about $5/hr.
All stuff in Australia is obviously more expensive than USA and other areas of Asia due to the differences in living.
If ya moved there and worked there you'd feel that their prices are high, equivalent to what they sell it in Australia.
But yea, anyways knowing this, I usually buy most of my stuff from overseas to take advantage of this difference of living. Got friends and family around the world, so i seek the cheapest price and get it mailed here. Like i did with my Z Series. Got it for about $2100, where as Aus was selling for $3300. Which even included 1 yr international warranty, and 3yrs domestic warranty. -

well i'm not placing my upgrade order yet. First i'm complaining to Microsoft (i received a leaflet from microsoft saying i would get it for $30AUD). Then i will complain to sony (and also about the battery drain and the fact that the screen has weird dots on the screen in some places).
And possibly i get a cheaper upgrade through win741.com (when its released in Australia).
I mean, currently students in the US can get windows 7 for $30USD. We have to pay $40USD through Sony? Ripoff.. -
They charge us more here because they know they can get away with it, simple as that really. Better salaries or not, which average joe can afford a Z47 or Z48 here, at $4000, or even the lower-end Z46 at $3400? I understand we have a smaller market and all, but there's no doubting we get ripped off here when it comes to electronics especially.
Anyhow, back on topic.
Only a couple more weeks of waiting.
As a side note, I just noticed that there's an update for the Z bios which enables VT. Is it wise to install this now, or just wait for the W7 upgrade kit to arrive? This will contain the updated bios anyway, right? -
Hi Alias22,
I don't think it will come with the BIOS (the Windows 7 media). You will have to flash it yourself. It can be a dangerous thing to do since if anything goes wrong your notebook will be bricked. Be careful
-
Bright side, atleast we aint getting ripped off that badly. lol. Check out car prices. Australia sells cars for approx double the price as overseas.
I see Lexus going for like 30-40k where as they go for like 100k here. lol. XD
But yea, believe me, if you have worked overseas you will realize that prices are different because of the economy. We Australian's earn more which means we pay more. Americans earn less which means they pay less, in the end they still feel that its expensive.
In Australia most jobs pay around 40k salary, in USA most jobs pay about 20k salary. If USA had the same prices as Australia, nobody would buy it, or in other words nobody can afford it.
Another example:
In thailand a REAL new release game with a legit CD-key costs only like $5-10. Where as in USA it costs US$49.99 which is 5x the price, then in Australia its 10x the price since we pay $100.
Its all because Thailand living costs are low and they get paid less.
Its interesting seeing people simply think the prices are around to rip them off. lol. When its not as simple as that. lol.
Anyways, I do wonder what kinda upgrade pack Sony is gonna give out. Will it be a unique Key which is a OEM Pack, or will it be a pre-activated image which will use a OEM-SLP Key. You can install the bios update though, if you require VT but from the looks of it nothing else is different. SLIC2.1 isnt even in the update. -
Hello heavenly_wild, haha.
RE the bios, the Sony AU W7 upgrade page states the following:
"Contents of Windows® 7 Upgrade Kit
The Windows® 7 upgrade kit will include the below two discs.
1. VAIO Windows® Supplement Disc (Contains BIOS, driver and utilities for VAIO original software)
2. Microsoft Windows® Upgrade Disc (Contains the Windows® 7 Operating System)"
So I guess I'll just update the bios when the discs arrive. Unless there's a reason I should do it sooner.. -
Unless the person is paranoid that it will brick their laptops. You can do it earlier, so if it does brick ya laptop you can get it repaired and in time to try out the bios they attached with Windows 7!
-
Haha, interesting point caudex. I plan on not bricking it if I can help it though.
-
i got my validation thing on the 8th. I guess now it wait and see.
-
Hey guys!
Am I gonna be able to do clean install using Win7 upgrade disk? -
$5/hour is less than minimum wage in the USA. Federal minimum wage is $7.25. Many states have higher MW than that.
-
I got mine today. I was going to ask what a POP Validation email was but reading through a few posts here and I realize that it is confirmation that my W7 upgrade will come soon.
-
Some pictures and details of Sony Win 7 upgrade media from USA support site.

photo is nice, but where to download the drivers?
-
Drivers are not officially out yet.
-
i run currently Windows 7, i have small issues with Vista drivers.
like touchpad stuck, and after sleep in/out ...it's work fine.
fingerprint reader not always work on locked screen, but always on login. -
I run Windows 7 RC X64 with no issues in my FZ and will be upgrading to Win 7 Pro X64 soon.
-
so...what if you don't have a proof of purchase? I did the windows 7 upgrade thing, and they want a proof of purchase. Since I bought this lapy brand new from someone else, I don't have that kind of info. What do I need to do to convince them that this laptop indeed satisfies all the requirements for the windows 7 upgrade program? It even has the win7 upgrade sticker on it!
-
You should have gotten their receipt, which is the original proof of purchase, I guess.
Still haven't gotten my validation of proof of purchase email yet. I bought my FW from Sony Style and sent a PDF of the order page as my confirmation. -
This is soo bs...I wonder if they even care about us. By receipt, do you meant the one they give you after you sign up from the windows 7 upgrade program? If it's the one you get after you buy the laptop, I don't have that. I'm going to give them a call next week.
-
It's not Sony's fault that you didn't got your Proof-of-purchase. You should contact your seller and tell him/her where he/she bought it first.
After that ask them for the receipt.
(If they've bought it from SonyStyle Online, its pretty easy to get it - seller should log into Sonystyle and print out the proof of purchase)
Good luck. -
No I mean the one that the person who sold you got from wherever he/she bought it.
-
Is the Packing List a valide proof of purchase?? I send it scanned three days ago. I bought my laptop from Sony Style if you could recommend other option.
Thanks! -
It's not valid. Here's the answer.
-
Thanks for your answer iLoveVaio, but look what the email order confirmation says:
I don't have a problem printing and scanning the recepit from Sony Style. But I put my order 09 October and it's been more than 7 days now, that means I have to resubmit my order for upgrading to Windows 7 too?? Damn confusing Sony emails
Any recommendations?? Should I wait a few more days just in case, or resubmit my order asap?? Thanks in advanced! -
As far as I know, packing slip doesn't have enough details. You should try to send Proof-of-purchase again using same order number.
-
Ok, first thing I'll do it after I get some rest
I'll post if anything happens. Thanks!! -
$14.99 from my Windows 7 upgrade (which is the shipping cost, Sony you s!). Btw, Am I the only one who had send a confirmation mail plus proof-of-purchase or did everyone do the same?
-
You should have send it using email.
-
I got my validation email today, and it said TOTAL AMOUNT: USD 0
Which means that my upgrade is free, i guess? -
Got my validation mail 4 days back
Now waiting for the package
-
I just called sony about my windows 7 order and I was told it will take 2-3 weeks for a validation email. >_>...............
-
anyone know when these things are supposed to be shipped out to people from this third party vendor?
-
I scanned and sent in my packing slip from sonystyle, and received an email stating that I would be contacted again when my order had shipped. I assume this means that it worked. I know of one other member who did the same thing and got approved. Has anybody here actually had a rejected proof of purchase?
-
Sony Vaio Windows 7 REAL upgrade program = BUY A NEW COMPUTER / LAPTOP anything made recently (within a year or more) clearly cannot run windows 7 according to sony.
-
Well, I didn't receive any confirmation when I sent mine so ...
I don't know if waiting a litlle longer or resubmit my order and see what happens??
-
Wait and see. You'll definitely get your confirmation.
-
How do you know if these are shipped out or not?
-
Probably through the order page?
-
I sent in my Proof of Purchase on Aug 6th and I got this email on Oct 9th:
Still waiting for either an email to come in saying that it has shipped, or the actual package to come in the mail. -
god i was approved months and still no ship date. why so long, to package bloatware??
