Does anyone know if we can use the Product Key from the Sony Windows 7 Upgrade Kit to install Windows 7 on a Dell (or HP) laptop?

Quite possible. The software that comes on the disk is actually a non-bootable installable medium same as a regular update disk but not bootable. i dont think it cares if its a sony notebook or not. It has a OEM key.

For those who bought or are thinking of buying a refurb Sony notebook, I am happy to announce that Sony has shipped me the Windows 7 Ultimate disks in about 10days after filling the online form. If your notebook model qualifies for the free upgrade, then do fill out the form and send a receipt (paypal receipt is also accepted). As long as your notebook model is qualifying, they dont seem to check if it is a new/refurb/used notebook. I do believe that the receipt should not say Used or Refurbished anywhere.

I had a non-activated Windows 7 installed on my sony notebook from my previous hard drive and once I got the key from the Sony disk, I used Anytime upgrade option in Windows to enter that key and Home premium is now Ultimate after activation.

    This is my experience :)

My upgrade experience is not as pleasant. I sent my verification about two weeks ago (Owned for 16 days total) and received no sort of response.

All I know is that *fufillment is in progress* as vaguely wonderful as that is...

    Hi,

I just picked up a VGN AW110J from PCRichards.

I was told I could get the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

I see there are alot of pages here. Can someone just point me in the right direction on how to get it for FREE?

Is it a download or do they send you the disc?

    Thanks in advance,

    M
