Hmm, I never received a Verification Code...

I just received an email with a Shipment Confirmation but the Tracking ID is not a valid UPS tracking number, I'm really not sure what it is.. Odd.

Edit: Lol, nvm. That is just a captcha, it was not very clear haha..

I give up. I don't even care any more. Watched pot never boils.

Still "Pending for Shipment" in my order status.

I submitted my order on October 13th.

Hey there, they say this is UPS tracking but this is a USPS one.
Just paste the tracking in google and the result will display the correct carrier.
For me it is USPS and for some reason it is in KERNEY,NJ from OCT 31st ,and I received the tracking data today.

It will get to you sooner or later =D
I just hope this isn't another upgrade nightmare since for Vista disks I had to wait for 6 weeks with HP, now that was sad =S

Oh by the way you don't even need to do that. I don't have a MSDN subscription.

On the DVD itself there are directories with the complete, unbranded RTM install for either 32 or 64. Just run "setup" from within one of those folders and you'll have a clean upgrade.

Thanks. I did upgrade, but I did not have enough free space on C: and I did not realize I had logical partitions so I could not resize C:.

Needless to say it was a pain to upgrade (ubuntu live boot helped me back up and recreate the partitions) but it was also partially my fault for setting up logical partitions in the first place.

Everything is working now though, and its good that I have a clean install. :)

Edit: Haha I meant Dynamic partitions not Logical.. Oh well..

I registered for my upgrade on Oct 4th. I received my discs today in the mail.

Since many people are having success with the upgrade process, I'm going to try that before I opt for a clean install on my VGN-FW455J.

I ran the upgrade last night and it took 2 hours 45 mins. Mostly everything is compeletey automated from the time you put in the first disc till the time you pull out the second.

WIndows 7 is pretty sleek and so far I am liking it alot

whom did you email? looks like sony has contracted out supplying the windows 7 upgrades to another company. why not try contacting sony customer service itself and explaining your problem? i am sure they have heard by now the contractor has not had a perfect start-up and maybe they can help.

I emailed them in October to check on the order status, and never got a response. Then one day the disc just showed up in the mail! A few days later I got an email notifying me that the disc was shipped. It was so backward!

How did you download it from MSDN? I went to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx?pv=36:350 and signed in but the download links were grayed out.

Can I do a full clean install with the upgrade CD they are shipping to me?

    Hi,

Here's my experience so far regarding the VGN-Z790 64-bit upgrade Package to W7:

Oct. 23: Placed Order (emailed them a scanned .jpg attachment of my Packing Slip)

Oct. 25: Status read Pending for Fulfillment

Oct. 29: Status gets the Black Bar treatment : P

(Emailed them about it, no response)

Oct. 30: back to Pending for Fulfillment Status

Nov. 10: Status returns to the Black Bar (sort of breaks up the 12 days of knowing absolutely nothing about the progress of my order I guess : )

Nov. 12: Emailed me a UPS Expedited Shipping Confirmation (shipped Nov. 11) - says allow 2-3 days for delivery

Update Nov. 16: Received VGN-Z790 Vaio Companion Disc + Win7 Vaio Updrgade Disc w/ Product Key + Instruction Booklet in a Sturdy DVD Case

    * Companion DVD will change my BIOS!

    Hi,

I have installed windows 7 RC on my VAIO VGN-FW460.
I would like to order & install the upgrade kit. However, I don't want to reinstall Vista in order to able to install windows 7.

Do you know if I must reinstall Vista in order to able to install windows 7? Is there any workaround? How does the upgrade kit identifies my computer? Does it uses the existing the Vista key or do I get a new key for Windows 7?

Also, do you know whether I can download the DVDs instead of shipping them?

    Thanks!

Allright! got my disks today, upgraded this afternoon, and literally everything works flawlessly, even the infamous A/V mode button. I couldn't be happier. My RAM usage is down about 10% on idle than from Vista. Programs seem to be a little snappier starting up as a result. Startup time is not any better, and resume from sleep mode is actually slower now. It used to take about 4 seconds for the desktop to show upon resuming from sleep in vista, now its more like 10. Hibernation resume is noticeably faster though.

I considered a clean install, but why? I'm not displeased with the performance as is, and realistically the only thing that would improve with a clean install would be the startup time. I shut down the computer so rarely that it really wouldn't matter for me. All in all I was very impressed with how smoothly the whole thing went.

    bloodymeli,

    See this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=430379

You should be able to create a clean install disc which will work without having to re-install Vista. You will be given a new product key with your upgrade DVDs. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the kit "identifying" your computer. Do you mean model? My DVD did figure out that I was using a Z750, but I'm not sure exactly how it did it...

As far as I am aware, there isn't any way you can download the DVDs. You could grab a full copy of Windows 7 from somewhere and install that (without inputting a product key), and then potentially use the product key from your upgrade kit, but I'm not sure if that will work (something about product keys for upgrades vs. full versions being different... I had no issues with using my product key and the clean install method above, which is in effect what a full version DVD would do - I didn't upgrade)

I have the same problem. I sent my proof of purchase to [email protected] per instruction in the order confirmation email. Then I received nothing about validation email or anything. Then last week, I received only Companion DVD in mail. I am supposed to get Window 7 32bit home edit as I bought SR490 on Sep 16, 2009. Can anybody have any idea what should i do.

    Thanks.

If you are only getting the Companion DVD its because your computer/laptop does not qualify for the Windows 7 upgrade program, try going to the Sony site and re-submit your computer/purchase date, it'll then tell you if you qualify for the Upgrade Kit (which includes win7) or just the companion dvd. If you don't qualify and bought your system during the right timeframe, I've heard some people have been able to get a free Win7 copy by bringing their laptop/pc back to the place of purchase and complained about it.

Posting it in this thread with the hope of getting an answer to my question.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=435184

Has anyone had bought a laptop after June 26 2009 and realized it is not covered by Sony Free Upgrade option in their website?

In this scenario what did you folks did to get an upgrade kit for your Vaio laptop?

I bought a Vaio TZ390 notebook in Sept 2009 and my laptop model is not eligible for upgrade. However while ordering the notebook, it is mentioned in the product description that this laptop is eligible. Before placing order also checked sony website, but it never posted any such information that these models do not qualify. Only after October 22 2009, the website updated with no windows 7 support and no upgrade kit even though it is purchased recently.

If any one of you had this issue, suggest me the ways of getting an upgrade kit.

    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,

I`m quite new around here and have been reading every post in this thread since now. Never found someone with my problem.

So, what`s really going on. A friend of mine lives in the US and bought a Vaio Z750D/B in august. I live in Europe. Asked me if she can use my credit card to pay the 14.99 for shipping the software. I gave her my credit card info and she made the order. She doesen`t have any proof of purchase because she bouth it from another person (it`s eligible for W7 upgrade anyway). So we made the order and a email was sent to her mail rright away with "in 7 days submit proof....". Yesterday she recieved email "This is to inform that we had processed your payment successfully.

A notification email with the shipping details will be sent to you when your order has been shipped."

So, my credit card is charged, but never sent proof of purcashe.
My order status is: Fulfillment in progress
My payment status is: Pass (Payment Made)

Shoud i expect upgrade kit or i threw away 15$?

    Thanks in advance.

I have FW483J/B. Do I have to (required) fully update my window vista before upgrade to 7? I haven't update since new (aug09)because I got a BSOD from 1 of the update before. Recover back to OEM spec after that.

Does anyone know if the laptop came with Vista Ultimate 64bit, will they send a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade dvd? I am guessing it should be Ultimate.

Also, what is the url for tracking the status once they charge the CC?
