Just because you think none is using older computers does not make it so.

Many older notebook computers are being used for many purposes such as providing on-board "brains" for robotic projects and other situations where the latest, greatest, biggest, and fastest is not needed.

AND, not everyone can afford the latest, greatest, biggest, or fastest and make do with what they can afford.

I have disassembled a sony vaio vgn-ar71zu (pcg-8111m)to replace hinges. I am stuck at removing the front bezel from the screen. The guide available on this form "vgn-ar" has been helpful till this step. I have removed the 4 screws, two on either sides, but don;t know if there are clips or some screws left, specially at the top.
I dont want to break the cover by applying too much pressure to separate it from the rest of the screen.
    Help required.
It would be very kind, if I know that I am on the right track for hinges replacement, as I have followed the guide till page 9 (step 19). It show two screws at bottom and top, but I cant find them.
    thanks.

    Hi ..
I have a VGN-Z21 that I'd like to disassemble if that can be done in a cautious way. I understand that it is not like a VPC - Z21 but its own design.

To that end I'd appreciate a (link to a) service manual and/or pictures of how this is done, if one of you knows of this ...

Thanks for reading and maybe replying :)

    Here you go :)

But please think twice before you will do anything. Exchanging HDD is relatively simple straight-forward task, while exchanging thermal paste is quite difficult and tricky thing. It's very easy to break the MB and mobo for VGN-Z costs quite a bit...

Many Thanks for keeping that file out there for so long, it's much easier to change out the HD with proper instructions, rather than the method of taking out the screws and slowly prying the keyboard off as shown elsewhere on here.

Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on the VAIO SE (VPCSE190X)? The comments in the video mention something about the CPU being soldered to the MB. I have a Sandy Bridge i5...looking to upgrade to an Ivy Bridge i7 if possible.

Hi. Anyone have the service manual of VPCS vaio? The first S (up to 13 series).
My keyboard is damaged. I had to buy another. However, impossible to find out how access the keyboard.
    It is this keyboard:
eBay | Clavier Azerty Français VAIO VPC-S 148779431 Backlit

Obviously there are two screws at the top and one in the middle. But impossible to remove the cover and the speakers look unremovable too...

I tried to contact sony but obviously they sent me to a service center vaio who knows the answer. But they do not want to tell me because they want i pay for expensive repairs.
    Keyboard: 45 €.
Repair more than 150 € and 20 days without pc because non-warranty repair center.

    Please help :(.

PS : some pics of my vaio :

Why don't you check the thread with disassembly instructions for the S15? It has a video, and I'm sure that both laptops can't be that different. Overall it shouldn't be that hard to separate top and bottom chassis, just need to be careful to not damage any cables.
