You need the right GPU driver. Unistall the current driver properly before installing a newer driver.
-
There wasn't a driver to uninstall. It always read as the standard VGA adapter until I used the Dox driver. Now I have the correct card showing in device manager and I can play BluRay.
The 'aero' functions are greyed out on the toolbar options. I am not sure what is causing the issue. -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
The wrong driver.
Gary -
Well now that I'm home I can explain my issue further. It appears that aero functionatliy and my audio out work fine except when running PowerDVD 9 playing a Blu Ray disc. Once the Blu Ray disc begins the audio only comes out of the onboard speaker and the aero functionality fails.
still think this is the incorrect driver? -
It seems like a driver problem.
-
Well again I am confused. Why have other drivers worked for others? To verify, everyone on this thread has a 8400M GT, right? I realize they are different models but wouldn't think there would be this kind of discrepancy.
Is it possible my audio driver is causing the issue in which my audio out doesn't work?
Is it possible that Win 7 has an issue with the aero functionality while playing videos?
Again, everyone has been very helpful. I feel as if I'm missing something simple in the process. And this is just the video driver. I still need to find 64 bit versions that will work for the mass storage device (TI 4 in 1 reader) and the Sony Firmware Parser.
Damn you Sony! Damn you!!!
lol
-
For FZ series,
the gfx card can have 3 different variant
1. Nvidia 8600M GS
2. Nvidia 8400M GT
3. Intel X3100
--> hence I'm guessing your driver is wrong as well.
I would suggest to install the latest driver from SigmaTel®. that might solve the issue
Note: I do not have a FZ, nor do i intend to purchase 1.
Hence you have to do trial and error to see whether this might work for you or not...
seriously i have no idea...

No issue with win7 + aero + video playing -
Well I was able to find a SigmaTel Audio driver on the Sony FTP site. I installed it without any issues. Now while playing Blu Ray movies the audio out works. However, I am still experiencing the issue with aero while playing a movie.
For two reasons I do believe that this may be working as designed. Let me caveat this by saying; I think the 'windows experience index' is a joke. It's a 'rating' system based on nothing. There isn't a defined scale, etc. However, it did show me something.
Prior to installing the video driver again I noticed my overall 'score' as being a '1' and 'Desktop performance for windows aero' was also showing as a '1'. After installing the driver and the reboot this score has changed to 5.4 and my overall score is 4.3.
So is anyone sure if this is a known functionality of aero? It's tough for me to think there is an issue when windows doesn't appear to notice anything. -
Calling it a night but noticed this also....when starting up a Blu Ray movie the desktop flashes to windows basic colors. Once this happens the Aero function is gone while the movie is playing. Once I close PowerDVD it changes back and then Aero works.
I agree and think this is a driver issue as well but why is this the only drive I've been able to get work? I have tried over 10 drivers and had no luck until this one. -
It's a video player + driver issue. Use any other player like Win DVD and see if it happens.
-
Alright, I will try WinDVD tonight after work. Now I need to find the 'mass storage' device driver (TI 4 in 1 reader) and the Sony Utilities driver, both for 64 bit. There were a couple of other threads that had links that are now broken. Does anyone know where I can find these. They don't seem to be available on the Sony FTP site. I could be wrong though.
thanks -
The drivers are all there in the FTP.
TI card driver : ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/MEMORY CARD READER WRITER DRIVER TI 2.0R_2.0.0.19.ZIP -
Well I experience the same thing when using WinDVDBD for Blu Ray playback. I actually found another video driver on the Sony FTP site for Vista 64 bit. I tried that one as well. It installed just fine but doesn't have the NVIDIA control panel with it. So I'm not convinced it is a driver issue at this point.
The TI driver installed fine and is working as designed. I have yet to find a camera driver that works. The software installed fine but not the the driver.
I still need to find a 64 bit version of Sony Utilities (although I'm not sure it's really needed at this point).
I still need to find a Sony Shared Library (64 bit as well). I also can't seem to get a driver for Broadcom Bluetooth.
I am making progress but am not there yet. Once I am able to get everything working I am going to start fresh again and document the whole process.
again, any input is appreciated!
thanks! -
I don't have to say again. Go to the FTP link.
-
I appreciate all of the guidance I've received here. However, coolguy, there's no need to get rude about it. I am not some complete novice who is unable to utilize the same internet searching as you have. Unless I'm not understanding the naming conventions, there aren't anymore that I can find to try. I have already tried several drivers for all of these. So as I appreciate your help, I would appreciate it more if took a step down from that perch you're on. You're not anymore of an expert than the rest of us. Just because something worked on your system doesn't mean it will work on mine.
Just be mindful of others man, we're all here trying to accomplish the same thing.....
figure out a way to get around the shackles Sony has put us in. -
I will post the working drivers once Sony officially posts Win 7 drivers.
Install the recent (last but most recent dated) SFEP driver, Sony shared library, and Vaio event service from the FTP for now to get the fn keys working. Follow the order below when installing.
SFEP driver : ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/SFEP_DRIVER_SONY_8.0_09Q2_S_8.0.0.1.ZIP
Sony shared library : ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/SONY_SHARED_LIBRARY_5.3_5.3.0.11240.ZIP
Vaio event service : ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/VAIO_EVENT_SERVICE_4.3_092Q_4.3.0.13190.ZIP -
Do you recommend doing a full clean install? eg I have Win7 installed using the Vista x64 drivers from the eSupport page for my model. If I wanted to update to newer drivers, do I just install them in that order, or uninstall everything and reinstall that?
-
I recommend doing a clean install but upgrade should not be a problem. You can always install newer drivers/ apps in any order over the older ones. But Sony's older utilities won't install on top of newer one's and for Sony shared library, there is no uninstall option. So creating system restore points is useful if something goes messy.
-
Useful site, but I'm not clear from this thread what Vaio programs I need to add from this list to a W7 installation. Am hoping Sony will update the Vaio pages with some simple guides once the software is officially released..
-
First off JonLa; it isn't easy but the info is here if you look hard enough. There are a lot of 'guides' for this and that. They're all model related. But there are a lot of good resources on here and everyone appears to be really helpful. Good Luck.
Thanks, coolguy as I think we may have gotten confused by each other. I omitted that I knew where the Sony Shared Library, Event Service and SFEP drivers were. I just hadn't installed them yet. I was more concerned with finding what I hadn't been able to find. Thank you for making it easier as I do now have all of my Fn keys working as they should. The systems overall performance is pretty good right now.
However, lol, I am still looking for;
Camera Driver
Broadcom Bluetooth Driver
I have looked at what is available on the ftp and none of them seem to work. I will continue looking.
I will be doing a fresh install again, once I have figured out and found everything. I will make a document outlining what was successful. Again thanks for everyone's help. -
kevf74, if your camera model is Ricoh VCC-4, your Vista driver package should work with 64-bit Win 7 too. Extract the exe using Universal extractor software.
-
Thanks for the info. Hmm, so right now I have on my hard drive my old Vista partition, which I shrunk, and I made a second partition where I put Win7 on. I've kept customization to a minimum, so a clean install should be simple. If I have a DVD disc of Win7, can I tell it to wipe out the Win7 partition and install over it during the install process? I'm going to be using Acronis True Image to make an image of the partition before reformatting it.
-
You can do it.
-
i´ve got a vaio nw series notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I tried to get the fn buttons work 3 times now, but ive got no success....
Is there a possibility to get them work at a vaio nw with 64bit windows 7 ? -
It looks like my camera is a VCC8. I haven't had any luck finding that one. I have put together a document outlining everything that worked for me. Please keep in mind it's a 'working' document and is not complete. I hope it will help a little. My search continues on....

This thread for the FW should help you determine what's required and what order to install the drivers in:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=410250 -
I've been repeatedly visiting the support page
http://esupport.sony.com/
to see when they'll start officially listing Win7 drivers. Although the results for my "VGN-FW290" has so far been fruitless, check out the listing when you punch "VGN-FW590" into the Model Number field. -
My AW290J drivers are available on eSupport
-
the FZ's will not have Sony support for this upgrade. Did I say I hate Sony yet? Well, I HATE SONY. I will never recommend their systems again to anyone. 'Your model does not support Windows 7....blah blah blah'. Such garbage. We all know the FZ models can handle the new OS.
Well I will continue to look for the two drivers I still need and update the doc I created for using Win7 64.
Sony, you are indeed pathetic! -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
The esupport site says that the FZ190 model does not meet the minimum spec for Windows 7. I believe this is false. I am pretty sure these machines have everything required to meet the spec.
I don't have the time at the moment to push this to tier two Sony support and find out specifically what is "missing". Anyone else have the time to try in the next few days?
Gary -
Don't worry Gary. Your FZ-190 is fully supported for Windows 7. I don't how Sony can provide a lame excuse for Windows 7 driver support. I wouldn't waste my time calling Sony support.
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
I know, my friend, because you have laid the ground work by making the switch early. But for the rest of the FZ community who waited patiently because of what the eSupport said prior to today and go back to find the lame response of "sorry", Sony has let them down. I think someone needs to push this with tier two support and find out specifically what does not meet the specs or expose the lie.
Gary -
You can try calling them. But I am sure they are going to tell you something lame like the S button is not compatible with Win 7 64-bit. Atleast MS update provides Nvidia drivers. The utilities are available are in the Sony FTP. So you don't need to depend upon Sony for anything else.
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
There is another thread here where someone said it was "well known" that there is no Nvidia driver for a Sony under Win7 that supports the FN keys for brightness. Didn't you say you have that working, even with the on scren display?
Gary -
Yes, I have everything working including fn keys, OSD, etc in Win 7 64-bit. Folks who have Blue Ray drives had problems finding the right Nvidia driver. Do you have Blue Ray?
-
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
Rajeesh,
I am planning on doing an in place upgrade (32 bit not 64 bit), I have way too much software loaded to take the time to have to inventory and reload everything, which would be required since a 32 to 64 bit change requires a clean install. I will image the drive first, of course. But did you try the 32 bit version before you went to 64bit?
Gary -
Actually I am dual booting 32-bit Vista and 64-bit Windows 7 RC. I didn't try the 32-bit Win 7 RC. I am sure you can have 100% working install of 32-bit Windows 7. Only 64-bit has problems with the S button functionality.
-
I have the onscreen brightness displays etc working on my Win7 64 install. BluRay has no issues either.
-
I'm not to good at all this but I have the fz-260e 32bit and was wondering if the same list of drivers would also apply for my computer. I was extremely disappointed with Sony's decision. I contacted support and of course you know the story. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can send me in the right direction it'd be awesome.
-
I also find this bull. For months the Sony website for Windows 7 said things will be revealed on Oct 22nd. Drivers etc. Saying my PC, which is clearly running Windows7 64 fine, cant run Win7 is BS! I now have to remind myself to not purchase a vaio again.
Anyway, I got the scroll to work thanks to this site
Now, does anyone know the exact file to download to allow the FN brightness key to work? (NR Series).
-
Hello all, i have an FZ285U notebook and I'm sure you know the big scam Sony played on us FZ Owners .. X(
I've contacted the support and the story is the same as everyone, I want to install windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, but i don't know what should I do with the drivers
I've tried the RC version earlier but I had some missing drivers like "sound, NVIDIA, and some other drivers".
Please I'm dying to have the new O.S.
Truly Sony let us down, I'm so disappointed form this lame company, and I will truly not recommend any product for the company.
Thank you in advance friends. -
Audio and video drivers you can download from the vendor's website (not sure what audio chipset you have). The other drivers you can try getting the Vista x64 drivers, then unpacking the EXE to run the software directly (outlined in the numerous guides in the forum).

hey guys...
laptopvideo2go.com <----- this is where you should have been getting your video drivers from the whole time...
i thought EVERYONE knew that. -
I thougt there would be an idiot who doesn't know anything about the Z will say that.
Anyway, new driver for Z doesn' work without new BIOS -
Well i have the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT, and after serious reading of the threads and posts on this driver, I found some solutions that I haven't tried, I will try to install windows 7 RC today and see what will come from that, I've tried the vendors driver, but it didn't work (As usual), anyhow I took info's from the experience of others especially "kevf74" as we have the same card and problem, as i too have a blue ray drive.
And about the sound card, I have the "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC"
I've downloaded the driver just a bit earlier and I will try it today.
I hop it will work.
I know i will have other problems, I will go through them one by one just like you guys hoping for your support..
and btw "kevf74" if you found the solution for your webcam feel free to share it, because I have the exact same camera.
I have one question though, what do you guys recommend for, keep the vista and make a new partition for installing windows 7, or remove vista ??
Thanks friends.
------------------------------
VAIO FZ285U -
I have fixed the webcam problem and will update my doc and post it sometime tonight/tomorrow. I am still having problems with the Bluetooth driver/software.
If you find any other solutions than the 'Dox' driver for your video card let me know. It works just fine for BluRay playback/Aero functions but doesn't seem to have the same UI for controlling the card.
There are other items I haven't installed yet. I tried to install the Sony Utility Series, Sony Utilities DLL and the wireless switch utility. At some point in the process I lost functionality for my brightness/volume buttons. I was able to uninstall and restore to get everything working again. I am not sure what the benefit is for having some of these items and will research them a little further. Outside of bluetooth I'm not sure there's anything else we really need. What does everyone else think?
I will start a new thread dedicated to the FZ280 E/B to make things easier to find. This forum has a wealth of information but it is very difficult to find what you need currently.
EDIT: Does anyone know what the relationship between the Wireless functionality and Bluetooth working? In reviewing the user manual I noticed something that seemed to point towards both needing to be installed for functionality. any input will be appreciated. -
Well for the fz260e 32bit I got most of the drivers to work on windows 7 straight from the sony esupport(all old drivers not created for windows7). Problem I still come to is the webcam and and vaio events driver (which i guess is the vaio control center, and fn keys) Hopefully kevs post can help me with the webcam. I was wondering if anybody has any updates to getting the vaio events driver up and running, and to see what is the complete list of drivers I might need since sony doesn't want to support it in any way.
-
well I'm certainly not that. I fancy myself more of the computer engineer with an MBA. but if it makes you feel better to call people idiots, feel free.
I'm fully aware that the Z is a hybrid system. I'm also fully aware that laptopvideo2go has sets of hybrid video drivers on their site.
are normal hybrid solutions found at laptopvideo2go not compatible with the Z?
because if not, it's probably more respectful to say, "no, those don't work for the Z" than, "you're an idiot". after all, people are just trying to help. -
Will the driver also work with Vista, though?
The Sony posted driver for Vista is ancient and doesn't support CUDA or hardware PhysX, despite the card supporting both. (And the hacked drivers listed in a different thread aren't 100%, and either backlight, switching or UAC will break.)
Personally, I'm not switching to Windows 7 yet, for multiple reasons: IE8 doesn't work correctly with high DPI settings, using multiple simultaneous audio outputs is impossible (I have an external MOTU mixer), and networking has been dumbed down even more in W7, to the point that it's near impossible to set up a static IPv6 network.
Hopefully all three will be fixed by SP1 time, but for now, it's not worth it for me.
