The latest official posted drivers would have worked fine with Vista if Sony wouldn't have removed the trigger from the INF. Ironically the correct lines are still in the template that is included. So really they should have been both Windows 7 and Vista compatible but Sony removed the 4 lines needed to identify the drivers to Vista.

The "hacked" drivers work just as good as the the new official ones with the BIOS updated. Seems like it may have been an issue with ACPI in the bios. Everyone using Windows 7 had the same issues (backlight, etc.) regardless of which drivers they used before the BIOS update. Note: I always recommend officially released drivers over modified ones though.

I am going to be eventually posting the modified drivers for all Hybrid Graphics notebooks to LaptopVideo2Go as I am a super member/news poster and the resident "Hybrid Guy" there. :p

Where can I get a new BIOS for the Z570?
I haven't found a firmware version that works with it.

Thanks, but since the drivers are signed, and can't be modded without bypassing the signing check, this boils down to "only if you're willing to disable UAC and run in test mode", which I'm not. (I need UAC working for testing that networking software I develop work correctly with it.)

The solution may be to buy a new laptop from a manufacturer with better driver support (Asus?), but I just bought a new laptop ten months ago....

Quick question. I recently upgraded my Vaio AR-760U from Vista to Windows 7 (32bit) and I seem to be having problems related to incompatible audio drivers. I can't play DVDs, Blu-rays, or MP3s. In fact, I don't get any audio out of the laptop speakers or headphone jack. I do get sound out of the digital (optical) output jack. I don't think HDMI is carrying the audio either (but that could be a different issue).

I've been reading a lot of the threads regading Windows 7 and Sony laptops and that has helped me identify my problem as well as the location of newer drivers. Thing is, I don't know which driver file to use or which sound driver is the bad one. Since the optical output works, I have a feeling one of the drivers may be fine.

So fist of all, which driver do I need to update? Realtek or SigmaTel? Second, which of the following driver versions will work for me? In case it bears mentioning, I have the original drivers installed for each.

    Realtek:
    - 6.0.1.5880 (from the Sony upgrade FTP site)
    (filename: 7UPG_AUDIO_DRIVER_REALTEK_HDMI_6.0A_6.0.1.5880.ZIP)

    SigmaTel (IDT):
    - 6.10.5921.0 (From Sony Original drivers FTP)
    (filename: AUDIO_DRIVER_SIGMATEL_5.0Q083QDS_6.10.5921.0_LOGO)
    - 6.10.6242.0 (From Microsoft Update Catalog)

I'm a bit hesitant to update either because Microsoft Update says what I have is the most recent versions. I guess it can't hust to try. Sony does have the original drivers on their eSupport site.

Please advise if you have an idea of which driver may help me out and if I have found the right drivers. Any help is appreciated!

sarcasmo, it depends on what audio card your AR model has. Also the vista driver should work in Windows 7 without any issue.

Yesterday I installed Win 7 on my VGN-FZ320e. I have everything working except the Mass Storage Controller. No driver (or manufacturer name) found, so SD cards and USB sticks are not recognized. Interestingly, my USB hard drivers are recognized.

Sony support tells me the hardware is not compatible with Win 7. Amazon sells this model on its page of "Vista Computers Eligible for Windows 7 Upgrade" ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&plgroup=7&docId=1000392411&plpage=4).

    Is there a driver available?

    Thanks.

Are you running 64bit or 32Bit?

    for 64bit
    get EP0000140007.zip
    found at http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/

    for 32bit
I think the one of the sony support website should work
    found at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFZ230E&upd_id=3044&os_id=28

The USB sticks should actually be unrelated...

Sorry, I'm using the 32-bit edition of Win 7.

A few minutes ago I downloaded and installed Version 2.0.0.7 of the TI MediaFlash driver for Vista. After that, I can now see SD cards under Win 7. Still can't see my USB stick, but you tell me that's a separate problem.

I tried the 32-bit version at the Sony site that you pointed me to, but it won't install. I get a message that "This update is not intended for your computer model". The site says it is for the VGN-FZ230e. I have the FZ320e.

I have VGN-SR26GN and on the Sony Asia-Pacific support site, there is no Windows 7 drivers and I am having trouble which drivers I need to install for 64 bit.

This might be a silly question but how do you install the SFEP Driver?
There is no setup file in the zip file I downloaded from the FTP site.
And also I can't install the memory card reader drivers either, same problem.

All the people with touchpad issues - scrolling is the touchpad driver, you can always try a touchpad driver from another manufacturer.

Update the driver for the unknown device from the device manager (right click > browse to the SFEP driver folder)
For mass storage controller download the TI driver from the FTP site.

Hi folks, I just read all the posts and am encouraged. :) I have VGN-FZ180E and I too waited patiently for Sony to give the official update only to learn that my notebook is not support by Windows 7. :(

I went ahead and did a clean install of 32-bit Win7 but am experience some of the missing driver and non-functioning Fn keys, etc. Can someone advise what I need to do for my model?

    Thanks in advance.

Coolguy. Thanks. I do have the original (Vista) drivers installed, but they don't seem to be working. WinDVD just hangs and Windows Media Player actually gives me a Sound Card driver error message. Unfortunately I don't know the specific sound card in my machine. Sony eSuport simply calls it "Sony® Sound Reality™ - Audio Enhancer". Hardware profile lists the two I mentioned previously (Realtek and SigmaTel).

    (Edit, now that I'm home)
Here is the specific error (from WMP): "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Clicking "Web Help" takes me here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/C00D11BA

Following the instructions of that site to change the device, I noticed in the Devices tab, that Realtek is the Digital Output driver and SigmaTel seems to handle the rest. Looks like that may be my incompatible driver (BTW, changing the device gets past the error, but I still don't hear any audio). I think I'll try one of the drivers from my original post.

    Hi,

Have just clean-installed Win7 Ultimate x64 on my VGN-Z21WN (European model) with built-in 3G module. Everything works just fine, except for the said 3G module. I cannot install the WWAN manager, irregardless of which version I try. Originally the system ships with 32bit Vista and there the module is activated by GlobeTrotter Connect.

As it is now, I have one system device which I cannot install software for (Smart Card device). Everything is inside, I have a valid sim card installed (if I dual boot into Vista I can enable the 3g manager and surf without a problem)

Has someone else with a European Vaio cracked this? Any suggestions?

    Hi,

I had it already installed, that wasn't the problem. The thing that finally solved it was that I had to revert to the original 32bit WWAN connection manager installed with Vista. An Option Globetrotter connect thingy. It seems that they have a native win7 version here but I haven't tried that one yet

For all the people in this thread, I have some ideas of solving the driver problem issue.

I have Vaio FZ21E, suppose european version.

I've already found some drivers. The idea is this. Every manufacturer puts various components together, so those components can be found on the original manufacturers web support sites.

If you have Intel PRO ABG 3945, or similar Intel based networking device, wired or wireless, go to Intel support page. (latest driver 13.0.0.107)

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?iid=subhdr+downloads

This is the driver installation order that I know should be right.

First of all no matter whether the systems recognizes it or not, you must install chipset installation utility. FZ series have Intel PM965 chipset (Santa Rosa).
On the Intel support site you download the latest driver for this Intel Chipset INF 9.1.1, its universal for all Win based OS x32 & x64.

SFEP, Sony Shared Library and Vaio Event service next from Sony FTP

For marwell youkon ethernet, go with the latest drivers from their website
    (i think is 11.22.3.3)

    http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do

For nVidia 8400M GT, go to the nvidia website, finally it has support for 8000M series, it has official support for win 7 x64

I suppose with the Texas Instruments web site you can find latest drivers for the memory card reader.

For the vcc camera, the driver that is originally shipped with vista home premium x32, has x64 bit support folder inside, Try it, maybe it will work.

For any other driver, search laptopvideo2go.com, use vista x64 driver, or go to esupport@sony and check any laptop with similar device and use that driver

One last note, maybe this drivers, gained through original manufaturers web site are not 100% percent compatible, my point of view is there should not be a problem, it's not logical

Hope, I have been useful :)

Mate that's a Known problem with the SZ series, you need to install the Sony firmware parser, event and shared library to make it go away..

search here for clean install for vista it will show you the correct sequence at least :) (sorry I cant remember the sequence for the SZ but I remember that its very important )

    Dears

sony asia just posted apparently what equates to the "Driver" disk that they are shipping for the people who get the free upgrades for most of the Vaio's (seems to be limited to models sold in the last year only :() any ways for you guys outside the region you need to approximate the model number and you get 3 files to download ... watch out 2 of them are between 500 & 600 MB !!

here an example for the SR46MD (on sale since March 09)

    http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/354675/product/vgn-sr46md

hope this helps some of you...

and please don't ask for me to upload them somewhere as NO is to some an offending word.. ;)

HINT you can search through the product section on the asia website to find a similar model first :)

oh and the BIOS files do NOT contain SLIC2.1... so no cheating supported.... :(

^^ never mind i fixed it. All you need is Event Services and Utilities DLL to get the keys working..

    HDD protection works and to install drivers correctly;

switch to the graphics mode you want drivers for. Use the program to extract the .exe of the driver. Go to Device manager, update driver, then select the folder of the extracted .exe. This should install the driver correctly. Do this for the other mode of your hybrid graphics.

Coolguy, you have a VGN-FZ190E, which is very close to my VGN-FZ180E. Can you share (if you've compiled it yet) action/driver list to get Windows 7 working. I've currently installed 32-bit but will redo the install with 64-bit if that's going to be easier.

    Thanks,

I will be posting a guide and drivers links for 64-bit Windows 7 soon. I am going to clean install now.

Thanks. In the mean time I'm going to play around a bit with some of the drivers you and others have pointed to - just so I get smarter about it.

Any pointers around the 32 vs. 64-bit decision?

    Thanks again,
    Sal

Your guide was one of the ones I looked at first before I asked the question. I downloaded the shock protection for HDD, and it only got INF file (along with some CAT and SYS). My problem is the shock protection is not listed under Device Manager, so I can't really do a right click and 'update driver' to point to the INF file. Your instruction is greatly appreciated.
