If you are using non-sony battery (expensive ones), then this error is seen because, there is a sony utility that checks for battery, if you un-install that
utility the error goes away. Look for "Battery Checker Utility" that is part of "Sony® Notebook Utilities" package.

SoulsReaper I spent the better part of the last two days looking through every thread I could find regarding Win7 64 bit drivers for the VGN-FZ285U. I was debating whether to go back to 32 bit VISTA when I recalled something very simple on an earlier thread I had seen. It seemed to be very innocuous so I had put it aside, but in desperation I decided to try it. It goes like this:

Step 1) Start>Control Panel>Device Manager>Display Adapter(expand to show)> VGA Adapter - or whatever it is called on your pc
Step 2) Right Click the display adapter and select Properties
Step 3) Click on the Details tab
Step 4) Under the Property drop down select 'Hardware Ids'. You should see the following 4 lines or something like them.

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9005104D&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9005104D

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&CC_0300

Copy the first two lines to the clipboard.

Next. If you had already tried to install the NVIDIA Driver ver 186.81 it would have unpacked into a folder on your C drive. Go to the following path: NVIDIA>DisplayDriver>186.81>International>Display at this point select the following file: NVAM and right click then Open. Scroll down and paste the two lines I told you to copy to the clipboard (or type them in). Just edit and use the first parts of each line from the adjoining text before the PCI\VIN......

    Line 1
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0425.04% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425&SUBSYS_826C1043
    Line 2
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0425.01% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9005104D&REV_A1
    Line 3
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0425.02% = Section014, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9005104D
note: line 1 above is the existing line in the NVAM file you want to insert after. It is a lengthy text file so be patient and you will find it.

After that don't forget to save the NVAM file! Then go back to the International folder and double click 'setup'. I was skeptical, but it fired up with no problem. Actually shows up in device manager as a 8400M GS, but seems to work fine. Good luck!

Go to the Sony Support Site and grab the Vista drivers for your CR. I'm assuming you've gone for 32-bit Windows 7 to match your 32-bit Vista.

IIRC the Sony Event Service/Sony Utilities were essential, the touchpad driver, the camera driver/software, but everything else WIndows 7 managed to do on its own. I used the Vista 32 versions with Windows 7 32-bit and my European CR is working like a dream. I haven't installed anything else - am letting Win 7 sort itself out.

    Ok
    Finished installing a clean x64 Pro 7.

All drivers I got off the Sony ftp site or from the USA support (for the Z820).

    The problem.
It seems that while on the nVidia graphics, the Z down-clocks itself for no apparent reason. This is despite the power management in the power plans being all edited to 100%, and despite the Z being plugged into the AC outlet.

So for example, I leave the Z alone and still for approx. 5 minutes, and come back to it to experience extremely slow speeds (ie, I use the windows 3d flip, the windows key AND the TAB key at once - that is really laggy). I have to wait about 10 to 20 seconds for the Z to get back upto speed. Ok, it ain't a big issue, but it is darn annoying, especially when I need graphics quickly and on the go.

The intel graphics doesn't have this issue.

In addition, some personal applications I have don't run in full screen anymore. Well, they are expanded vertically but are not expanded horizontally. So for example, an app. runs at 800x600 native. It will retain the 4:3 ratio in full screen, showing huge black bars on the screen sides. It never used to do that on Vista.

All in all, the graphics driver seems to have been rushed out - it needs more tweaking and debugging here and there.

    BUT
Just wondering if anyone else here is experiencing the downclocking issue with the nVidia graphics? (this is with ANY windows 7 graphics drivers for the Z)

[EDIT] - FOUND THE LAGGING ISSUE OUT MY SELF - IT IS A FEATURE CALLED POWERMIZER WHICH DOWNCLOCKS THE GPU CLOCK AFTER THE Z IDLES WHILE ON THE SPEED MODE. WHICH IS ALSO WHY WE SHOULD NOW HAVE A WEI OF 4.3 INSTEAD OF 4.4 IN VISTA

    Cheers in advance

    Hello everyone,

I have the FZ31Z model, I updated to Win 7 Ultimate 32bit and all worked fine except that I cannot burn with the Mat.shi.ta BD-MLT UJ-220S. The unit is able to read but not to write even after I tried with Nero 9 in various versions including the last one.

In Vista I used to burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays with no problem.

It is possible to be a driver problem since I was not able to find an web-site of Panasonic with this Mat.shi.ta BS brand and drivers.

So, is there anyone who managed to make this unit work in Win 7 and write a DVD?

    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hello friends,

I have a Vaio FZ320E and after installing the Windows 7 x64 hardly
I managed to get any drivers or additional functionality beyond
devices that Windows has automatically installed.

After panning too, could only activate the card reader.

Camera, Control Center, and other basic funcionalities, dont work...

The experts could pass me the correct sequence of installation
these drivers and where he could get them? Hundreds of information
, different models and would love to put my notebook
fully functional (without, of course, back to nasty windows
    view)

    From a Brazilian friend.

    Greetings !

Sorry my bad english! TheGoogle Translate help me heheheeh :)

    Hello friend, good morning.

I followed your installation sequence, observing the wining drivers, as
that models of notebooks are different. I managed to install the
Control Center, but even though it recognized that many items to
then it appeared, the main buttons do not work. Volume and s
1 and other AV mode are not fired, not even appear in control
    center.

Could you help me saying what I have left to install? All
    core applications I installed ..

    Thanks again!

Do NOT use the IDT HD Audio v6.10.6242.0 drivers from Microsoft Update on your sony laptop, sarcasmo. they are not compatible for Sony laptops

Supported hardware ID nos. by the IDT Audio 6.10.6242.0 driver from Microsoft Update/Microsoft Update Catalog (I've looked these up myself in its stwrt.inf & stwrt64.inf files):
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_111d&dev_7603&subsys_103c361a
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_111d&dev_7608&subsys_103c361a

    hdaudio\func_01&ven_111d&dev_7603&subsys_103c4300

And here are the supported hardware IDs for Sony's Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio 6.10.5921.0 driver (check stwrt.inf & stwrt.ini files):
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7661&SUBSYS_104D0C00

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7662&SUBSYS_104D2B00

How to get hardware id info of your Sigmatel/IDT Audio device on your Sony notebook computer? Open Device Manager in Vista/Win7, expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" section, double-click on Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC or IDT High Definition Audio CODEC to view its Properties, click on Details tab, and change the Property from Device Description to Hardware IDs.

Stupid question about SFEP if anyone can help?

Just reinstalled Win 7 and moved to 64 bit. My Model VGN-CR31 is not supported for 64-bit vista or any version of Win7, but the 32-bit version ran fine with the Vista 32 drivers.

So Windows update found me an SFEP driver and installed it fine, and I can see the Firmware Extension Parser in device manager, and I haven't got any ? in device manager.

But the Win 7 flag tells me there's an element missing of SFEP and to download it from Sony Europe, with a link to the site that tells me they're not supporting win 7 on my model...

Have grabbed the latest SFEP from these boards, but the zip doesn't have a setup.exe file in it, and I'm at a bit of a loss.

Win7 64-bit is running great - I've got the buttons, the brightness, everything working thanks to the advice on these forums and the 64-bit drivers. But I've had two BSOD while running google chrome with flash-heavy sites.

So - advice on applying the latest SFEP? I tried to update the SFEP driver in device manager with the sys file in the x64 folder, but it said it was older than the one installed.

And could the BSOD be caused by the bad SFEP driver?

Many thanks for any help you can give. Have grabbed the latest zip of SFEP and will try again tonight.
